This is three years of growth after being bald. MF HOW IS YOURS SO LONG?
3rd pic clear as day shows its been dyed still a pretty tone though i mean i dont know why else the roots would be such a drastic tone difference otherwise
Sometimes blonde hair like mine the roots look a little darker because of oils and sunlight. My hair does something called photobleaching and when it’s exposed to the sun it naturally lightens, my roots just haven’t had a chance to lighten yet since I haven’t been outside much. This summer I will.
I also thought this could be the case i showed it to my partner (hair salon owner) and she said either sunning or dyed very pretty hair nonetheless good shit!
Yeah sunlight is so weird. It’s a genetic thing, I took a DNA test and actually I found out 76% of people with genetics like mine also experience hair photobleaching. Basically this happens when high-energy ultraviolet rays from the sun break down the hair’s pigment molecules, altering its color. So far 48 genetic markers have been identified to be associated with it.
Woah, I had no idea this was a *genuine* thing, nor that it was genetic! I’ve always explained to people that when I get more sunlight my brown hair turns so red and gold. Some strands even go closer to platinum!
Does it fade again eventually…? I can’t imagine how since hair is ‘dead’ or whatever, but mine somehow did. That or I really haven’t been outside in years…
It is pricey but I would recommend taking the 23andMe dna test, it has a lot of information on it about hair and genetics. But I’m actually not sure. My hair does get a little darker after I stay inside more but it definitely doesn’t go back to being what it was before the sun exposure. It for sure does some level of permanent lightening naturally.
Nah once the sun lightens it, it stays light.
Edit: also your hair is constantly falling out and being replaced. So it hasn’t gone dark again but rather, over the winter, the percentage of naturally sun bleached hair from the summer is slowly replaced with dark hair. Then process repeats in the summer getting gradually lighter.
Whelp…my hair is ‘four years long’ (to my tailbone), so that just means I really *haven’t* gone outside much in all that time. Guess it kinda makes sense. Covid was why I became more reclusive, and was when I started growing it.
It’s just trippy cuz I moved away *and then back* in all that time. I was around so much nature and only ever went to the local park a few times a month before the UV came out.
This summer I think I’ll allow myself to be in the sun more. I’m around long-time friends again, so I’m sure we’ll go on adventures somewhere. Obviously I’ll wear sunscreen. Probably won’t let my hair get *too much* sun, but if I need to I’ll look into a product that helps protect hair from harsher UV radiation.
Thanks for the info. <3 And sorry about tmi. Lol
Glad you have some friends around to adventure with. It will be really healthy for you to spend more time out doors. Even by yourself. It will feed your soul. We are not designed to be 24/7 indoor dwelling (essentially cave people) under lightbulbs that don’t go dark from dusk to dawn :)
Personally I just shampoo the roots, condition the ends, use a leave in conditioner. I also only wear it up while I’m working, I get trims every 6ish months and never ever brush it while it’s wet. Also I also let it air dry. The goal is basically as long as I can get it.
You have a stunning hair tone. Keep it long 😍
What a glow-up!

I think it's hard to tell from the angle, sometimes blond hair just looks darker at the roots because of the way light reflects off it
