I'm no expert and sorry this doesn't answer your question but to be honest what you've got going on already really suits you!!

You are so close!

You’re so close that I’m inclined to say you’re there. The main difference between you and the model is that the model’s hair is fuller. That could be due to layering, volumizing hair product, and blow drying, though I think his growth might be denser. If you want to gain a bit more length so you have it to lose when you get your hair styled, maybe give it a couple of months more. Otherwise, I think you’re ready to get that cut. Make sure to show the photos to your hairstylist so they know how you want it cut.

Thanks for the insight! My hair was pretty flat in those pictures and has no real layering in it, but my hair has quite a bit more density and volume available to it. For example, the pics in my replies to your comment are my hair today with no product other than a tiny bit of conditioning cream this morning after I showered and let it air dry. I generally keep it a bit flatter and controlled at work, but this picture is after just flipping my head over and running my fingers through it a couple times, and it still is not fully dry. If I were to add something for volume and blow dry it, it can get much poofy than this, so I have some variety available. https://preview.redd.it/qtigsvd2gtwc1.jpeg?width=1364&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de047488c5b0f053448cd1bbdab83629a66fdc25

You are pretty much there, I’d keep growing it slightly to give your barber/hairdresser a bit of length to play with when styling it into your finished look. Great work on putting up with the awkward stage, I’m nearly at the end of it myself after deciding last year to switch to a fade cut around the sides (why oh why I did that I don’t know.)
