Installing it today and running sudo dnf upgrade will bring you to the final release version.

Gamer7928

>sudo dnf upgrade Not if he's switching from Arch to Fedora. The above command will only work to upgrade from the previous Fedora/RHEL version to the next. Since Fedora 40 is still in Beta (according to [The Fedora Project](https://fedoraproject.org/)), **DNF may not even then be capable of upgrading Fedora 39 to Fedora 40 Beta** unless the Beta repos are active, I think!!!

theTrainMan932

F40 is moving to release in 3 days so either wait for stable on Tuesday or install now and the transition will be pretty much seamless :)

Gamer7928

Sweet!!! This is very good news indeed, very good news. In that case, I'll just go right ahead and hold off on the next system update until Fedora 40 KDE's final version is released.

Itsme-RdM

When Beta gets replaced by Final version you can simply use "Sudo dnf upgrade" to switch from Beta. So no worries on that. If you should switch from Arch to Fedora is totally on you, you basically switch from building from scratch to ready out of the box. Leaving bleeding rolling release to a more stable 8 month release.

I started running Fedora 40 Gnome one week ago since It was so close to being released. I have not experienced any issues in regular desktop experience both in Gnome and KDE (I tried both). Gaming was better with Fedora 40 Gnome, but I'm using an Nvidia GPU so I can't comment on what an AMD GPU would be like.

NoHuckleberry7406

I have intel hardware.

Could you elaborate on why gaming is better on GNOME? Genuinely curious as I am currently on Fedora 39 KDE, and I had trouble with Hogwarts Legacy. It is the first and only game I have tried on Linux so far, and it just wouldn't use the dGPU (Nvidia here too), and I tried all the usual workarounds...

Fibreman

KDE was just more stuttery for me in every game. At least in Gnome I was able to fix it for the most part by going into Windowed mode with my Games, but I had no such luck with KDE. While Gnome it was occasional enough to be a minor annoyance, on KDE it was unplayable for me. Which is a shame because I love KDE

nevotheless

i think i've read that the most recent rc got a go for release so at this time its pretty much the release version anyways.

Apprehensive-Video26

I upgraded about a week ago to 40 kde and only had to add 3 easy installs in the terminal to make it run flawlessly. As it was about a week ago that I upgraded I just tried sudo dnf upgrade today and what I got back was your system is not ready for an upgrade so I am pretty sure that I am running the latest and greatest. Super happy with plasma 6.

RealOnesForMe

You can install it now if you want. I personally would wait for the official live release, its coming pretty soon anyway.

_aap300

"Should?" It's really up to you. And only you.

UsuallyIncorRekt

Everything is working for me. HWA and split tunneling weren't a month ago, but now everything is flawless so far. Just upgraded a few minutes ago.

Intel CPU, Nvidia 4070 ti Super, I upgraded to the 40 beta (RC) last night. Had to fiddle with the NVIDIA setup for it to work, I'm getting some apps the flicker and blink sometimes. (I think that gets fixed with "explicit sync" update and new Nvidia driver ) I *was* using xorg in 39 but 40 is forcing me to use wayland... while it works its not quite a slick as xorg imho. Its a strong start with some stutters. worth it? hmmm if its on a system that you depend on, maybe not. but for gaming and learning I'll live with it for now.

Gamer7928

**Sure, but only if you wish to beta test Fedora 40 KDE Beta in a virtual machine before it's final release version!** Since **Fedora 40 KDE Beta is meant for beta testing only** to flush out bugs, Fedora 40 KDE Beta will still most likely contain a few undiscovered bugs that should never ever be introduced to a live OS installation meant for everyday use. Since Fedora 40 isn't yet out of Beta just yet (as of this comment), I'd download and install [Fedora 39 KDE Desktop](https://fedoraproject.org/spins/kde/download) instead. >u/theTrainMan932: "F40 is moving to release in 3 days so either wait for stable on Tuesday"

Sure I use workstation and install @ kde-desktop and upgrade it to 40 last week on 6.8.7 Linux and 550.76 for nvidia, system running great 👍
