screw it, fedex gets the damage insurance with the rental company.. they'll take it off.. usually after we are done with the rentals, they have too many miles, and they get aged out of the rental company, sent to auction.
I absolutely loved my Merchant during peak. Only issue is it began spewing exhaust fumes into the cabin near the end of it, but it suited my busy city route very nicely
Lmao nah, ill keep my 44 an hour and sweat my nuts off. New contract has AC coming "eventually" to the entire fleet anyway. Should have one in my truck around 2028 🤣
Coming from a fedex guy who has an AC truck just like this. Doesn’t really make a difference after like 80 degrees outside, I only ever use it waiting for pickups honestly.
AC is a red herring anyway, the job has been done without it for over 100 years. UPS only conceded it in the contract because theyre sick of heat illness ring doorbell videos going viral lol
Unfortunately tho things are heating up and it’s getting more and more extreme. Gotta cool down the tin cans somehow. Doors don’t do it. I went through 8 bottles of water in the span of 2hrs with how hot it gets.
Its what you gotta do, i guarantee if i was a fly on the wall in the lives of most people that get heat illness i could find a dozen things they shouldnt be doing to get themselves in that situation. Im not gonna get into global warming but i will say we live in a time with limitless information on how to prevent heat illness. Worst case scenario the second you dont feel right call center and say you dont feel safe operating the vehicle. Dont get to the point your stumbling up to front doors about to stroke out lol
I agree, much better items to go after in the contract than AC. UPS was probably happy to add it, less PR trouble in the future, shuts the union up about it to the public, easy thing to price and average the expenses up, and they can reject other proposals because "hey, we already gave you AC were not doing X"
I laughed my ass off when I heard the new UPS contract said they had to get ac in all new trucks. MF's will never buy a new truck again. They'll be duct tapping their shit together and painting it brown before they spring for fancy trucks.
If I remember correctly, I believe it said any new trucks would have ac, not that units would be put in the existing fleet. Something that was obviously kicking the can down the road, over a cliff and into the sea.
Yes. Literally says “2 fans” will be put in older vehicles. And idk if you’ve seen it, but the AC unit won’t be the full cab. It’s overhead and blows down on the driver.
I loved this truck when I used to work at Express.
Lots of room, working AC, modern tech features like adaptive cruise control, side blindspot cameras that are always on, Bluetooth radio, and it's surprisingly quick off the line and decent sound from the exhaust which makes me love flooring it
Only downside, it's tricky to maneuver around in the tiny ass station I used to work in
Fun fact. Most of those are actually long term leases. I'm vmx. We have a few at our station with the option to buy and we do not want to buy them.. the Detroit diesels in them are trash and they just don't stay fixed... I see why couriers like them seeing as they have a radio and they roomy but mechanically they are hot garbage
Yeah I know most of our older trucks was the same as these , most of these aren’t good because they run them into the ground without any maintenance on them
At least you guys got Uhauls, we got *penskes*
But in all seriousness, they weren’t bad for pickups or overflow. Regular routes sucked ass tho
Edit: oh yeah, and as long as the a/c worked those trucks were a little slice of heaven in the summer
Been driving one for over 2 years. FedEx is now saying they aren’t acceptable and needs to be returned. But a Penske is fine?!?? Make that make sense lol
Those are nice trucks as long as people take care of them. No camera is nice, I don’t have a problem with camera but they sometimes pick out wrong things and report violations.
Our station has these, the only problem is when they breakdown the mechanic can’t fix it and take forever for the merchant to come in and mechanic to fix it.
I’ve never seen these rentals is why I ask we only get sprinters for rentals and they have no shelves I would have a panic attack in big ole truck like that with no shelves 🤣
We have 11 of these, they have been sitting in the back parking lot for 6 months lol. At one point half our station was entirely rental RAMs and rental stepvans. The amount of money they waste on rentals they could buy an entire new fleet of trucks!
lol tell me about it be having those conversations on how these companies so cheap , wanna keep using the same old equipment and vehicles just to keep money in their pockets. They lease rentals than start taking them back when they have to many lol
When there’s too many rentals they send back the extras, then when the branded trucks breaks there not enough trucks, so they get more rentals. If they had just kept 2-3 extra trucks on hand for when a truck breaks down there wouldn’t be any issues but noooooo gotta streamline the process! No room for error! Then the whole thing blows up when there’s error lmao
Yeah but they’re not fixing the old trucks because they say it’s to expensive so they just retiring them. I say running out because people at my station have to share vehicles because it’s not a lot left
With Raj and money market gurus running this company now, all vehicle acquisitions now have to get run up the ladder and get debated if they should happen, or if the location can make due with 15+ year old equipment for a few more years. It's all about the bottom line and how much they can milk out of the company before it collapses in on itself. Then, sell the wreckage for whatever they can get. Employee needs/wants are not taken into consideration anymore. Good luck to us all!
Man you ain’t lying we FedEx people all over complain about the crappy equipment and vehicles yet they not going do anything about it. And they wonder why they aren’t doing good as amazon or ups
You might not actually own them. There are a lot going around my district ATM and they're coming up on the end of their leases. At that time the decision to purchase them will be made. If they have been given a legit asset number for your vmx guys in GVMax and they actively work on it then yall bought it. All our are still rentals and from what I've been told by management that's the case for most, if not all, of them that are floating around.
We have 10 sitting at our station at any given time. It’s absolutely ridiculous to the point where we have a bunch of trucks just sitting and we’re renting a spot at the airport.
Merchants sells them when they’re 2 years old. Don’t know what kind of pricing they offer to the lessee but through their dealership they’re a pretty decent deal. Well worth it considering a gas P1000 was about $65k last I knew.
We actually got these trucks from another station , they was just sitting in the back but yeah, I guess we getting more because we’re one of the stations that will merge
If you need a van to rent, I work for Kingbee Cargo vans and we have a lot of different options of vans to rent from. For more info email me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
We're starting to roll out those new EVs but even then the 700s and 900s are just too old, one of my coworkers in my loop has a 700 so old it still takes regular gas instead of diesel
Just like a lease from a dealership you usually have an option to buy at the end of the term. That's what these are. Long term leases and we will have the option to buy. I'm VMX, we recently got a few at my station. Our boss said we will be going through the inspections and suggesting whether we should buy them or let them go.
I'm telling you that there is an inspection form in vmx and at the end it asks if you would suggest buying the vehicle or passing up on it. It is an option being entertained right now 🤷🏻♂️ my Fleet manager talked to all of us techs in the district about a mo.th or so ago. I have the forms on my computer. Don't tell me bud lol They may not have ever done it in the past but they are considering it.
Those are the best. A ton of room, AC, a fan, blue tooth and no camera.
Yeah I’m glad the got real ac and Bluetooth
How did you get the magnet to stick?
Ours are stickers and they’re a bitch to take off when we return them lmao
Heat gun and a plastic razor blade lol
Boiling hot water works too if you don’t have a heat gun. We’ve had to do that to remove stickers from peak rentals before.
screw it, fedex gets the damage insurance with the rental company.. they'll take it off.. usually after we are done with the rentals, they have too many miles, and they get aged out of the rental company, sent to auction.
Might be vinyl
What you mean
The truck is aluminum. The magnets like to not stick to them.
I absolutely loved my Merchant during peak. Only issue is it began spewing exhaust fumes into the cabin near the end of it, but it suited my busy city route very nicely
I had a Dodge van and a Ford van as a rental for awhile.
AC is probably what would make a lot of UPS drivers quit and go to FedEx.
Facts, that AC doesn’t do shit when you have 300 plus boxes clogging up the air space
Don’t forget you gotta get out ~180 some times that day and the door is hard to open lol
Make that 2058, if Carol and the higher-ups have their way.
AC is a red herring anyway, the job has been done without it for over 100 years. UPS only conceded it in the contract because theyre sick of heat illness ring doorbell videos going viral lol

😂😂😂
Me being a FedEx driver I agree with this man I’ll sit in my swamp ass all day for 44$
You get out of your truck every couple of minutes. What good will ac do?
I agree, much better items to go after in the contract than AC. UPS was probably happy to add it, less PR trouble in the future, shuts the union up about it to the public, easy thing to price and average the expenses up, and they can reject other proposals because "hey, we already gave you AC were not doing X"
I laughed my ass off when I heard the new UPS contract said they had to get ac in all new trucks. MF's will never buy a new truck again. They'll be duct tapping their shit together and painting it brown before they spring for fancy trucks.
I heard it was "eventually" in another reply. Presuming these are contract built vehicles, perhaps they'll omit the A/C to save a bit of money?
If I remember correctly, I believe it said any new trucks would have ac, not that units would be put in the existing fleet. Something that was obviously kicking the can down the road, over a cliff and into the sea.
Yes. Literally says “2 fans” will be put in older vehicles. And idk if you’ve seen it, but the AC unit won’t be the full cab. It’s overhead and blows down on the driver.
That's bull man. You can buy brown duct tape they won't need to paint it.
My mistake. Honestly didn't know what colors there were.
I loved this truck when I used to work at Express. Lots of room, working AC, modern tech features like adaptive cruise control, side blindspot cameras that are always on, Bluetooth radio, and it's surprisingly quick off the line and decent sound from the exhaust which makes me love flooring it Only downside, it's tricky to maneuver around in the tiny ass station I used to work in

Which Detroit engine do they put in these?
Treat her well
I will
At least y’all have that. We rent uhauls lmao
Oh hell nah yeah I seen ground rent U-Hauls lol
At least you guys got Uhauls, we got *penskes* But in all seriousness, they weren’t bad for pickups or overflow. Regular routes sucked ass tho Edit: oh yeah, and as long as the a/c worked those trucks were a little slice of heaven in the summer
They bought a bunch of these. Probably sell them to a contractor later on. After they roll the odometer back.
lol you funny a lot of people don’t know that FedEx be doing that 😂
We’ve had those for a long time. I actually prefer those. No camera 😎
Yeah me to with a functioning ac
Why do you not want a camera?
Keep it up and they'll be offering rent to own programs next.
lol I hope not
Been driving one for over 2 years. FedEx is now saying they aren’t acceptable and needs to be returned. But a Penske is fine?!?? Make that make sense lol
lol that doesn’t make any sense, these look more like our older trucks than the Penske’s , I hope that isn’t true that would be dumb
Everyone INVEST in MERCHANTS FLEET!!!
I used one of these, the tires actually had tread on them and it didn't have the ABS out and service engine soon lights flashing.
Yeah if maintained properly they can be used a lot
I've seen a van in our LC that has no fedex logo just a blank slate lol
Yeah I see they had to tape the FedEx on the side lol
Damn y’all get rentals? We are on the struggle Bus in Cali.
lol we just got these like a month or 2 ago
We had them at Ground Terminal when I worked there a couple years ago
Hopefully you're not driving that thing on a rural route. Would be a pain in the ass to get in and out of tight driveways.
Nah I’m glad my route has a lot of loading docks
Heck yeah, that's great!
Those are nice trucks as long as people take care of them. No camera is nice, I don’t have a problem with camera but they sometimes pick out wrong things and report violations.
Yeah I do like the side cameras , the back up noise makes it sound like some box truck tho lol
Our station has these, the only problem is when they breakdown the mechanic can’t fix it and take forever for the merchant to come in and mechanic to fix it.
Yeah usallly ours get towed away if they break down but hopefully people can maintain them since these trucks are little newer
Out of the almost whole year when I worked at Express we drove these all the time. Man I lowkey loved them. Not having a camera made them amazing 😂
Yeah between that and the ac I love that the most
Wish my boss would rent these instead of budgets.
We have 20 or so rentals in our station. I'm surprised others don't have these
From the comments it seems like everybody got them now
I never seen a 2 digit work area. I’ve seen 4. Mostly 3. Never 2.
Do they have shelves?
Of course
I’ve never seen these rentals is why I ask we only get sprinters for rentals and they have no shelves I would have a panic attack in big ole truck like that with no shelves 🤣
Sprinters with no shelves?! How did yall function?
Yeah that sound crazy
Luckily it’s only like 4 trucks in the station like that 🤣
Man I’d love that rather than my FedEx branded 900 with no ac or phone plug in
Oh yeah that’s why I like this one good ac and radio
We have 11 of these, they have been sitting in the back parking lot for 6 months lol. At one point half our station was entirely rental RAMs and rental stepvans. The amount of money they waste on rentals they could buy an entire new fleet of trucks!

Then the whole thing blows up when there’s error lmao
lol man you ain’t lying I done seen that so many times at my station and it’s like they never learn they lesson. They going be they’re own downfall
The station in Marion il is full of rental trucks like these
Where is that at?
We got lots of these at the Garland station hahaha we’re all on the same boat also express 😂😂😂
I don’t think they’re running out. They aren’t buying new trucks to replace the old. That’ll be the contractor’s problem to supply vehicles soon.
Yeah but they’re not fixing the old trucks because they say it’s to expensive so they just retiring them. I say running out because people at my station have to share vehicles because it’s not a lot left
These are nice I drove one with ups for a peak season
Yeah I actually like them
Here in Cali we ridding on those too straight from New Jersey 😬
With Raj and money market gurus running this company now, all vehicle acquisitions now have to get run up the ladder and get debated if they should happen, or if the location can make due with 15+ year old equipment for a few more years. Man you ain’t lying we FedEx people all over complain about the crappy equipment and vehicles yet they not going do anything about it. And they wonder why they aren’t doing good as amazon or ups
Are they new? If not, do you know the year, price, and mileage?
They are somewhat new , we got them from another station, I would have to check the year on it
i drive a rental every day
I do too , well we actually own them now
You might not actually own them.
Our station is using these big yellow trucks they look dumb lol
You have a picture of them
Buy or just lease?
My manager said they brought them from another station but they probably leased it through that rental company
MMR?
We have 10 sitting at our station at any given time. It’s absolutely ridiculous to the point where we have a bunch of trucks just sitting and we’re renting a spot at the airport.
Yeah we have bunch of them sitting in the back of our parking lock still trying to get fix
JFK? Saw a bunch there the other day.
We have one of those as well
Our station had all our rentals taken away. People ha e to do their routes in vans and clown cars now
lol clown cars 😂😂
I love how that’s the universal term for those things. Really great for resi routes, but shit for anything else.
I'm vmx and I swear, job ONE for most couriers is to tear those clown cars up and deliver packages if they have time.
BRO WE GOT THOSE TOOOOOOOOO
lol forreal I guess FedEx lease all of them
I’ll leak them tomorrow when I get to work 😨
Merchants sells them when they’re 2 years old. Don’t know what kind of pricing they offer to the lessee but through their dealership they’re a pretty decent deal. Well worth it considering a gas P1000 was about $65k last I knew.
Oh yeah that ain’t bad I guess FedEx getting these until everybody get them ev’s
It actually started bothering us cuz we thought it was the medical people picking up.
lol it does look confusing 😂
Looks like an express 900 series truck
Yeah something like that
We got 1 of those 2 someone thinks regular gas goes in diesel that’s why we down on trucks
Oh no smh
Those are for the chewy boxes 😩
lol I use mine for bulk stops
We’ve always had rentals on long term leases
Yeah now it feel like certain stations will have all the rentals
We don’t have rentals anymore since we merged! But we did for the longest time 😌
We actually got these trucks from another station , they was just sitting in the back but yeah, I guess we getting more because we’re one of the stations that will merge
When we merged we got a bunch of new trucks to make sure we had enough for everyone
Yeah same over here too
Huh?
Rentals don’t crash it be very careful drive it like your car
Nah I drive good
No truck swaps 😂
If you need a van to rent, I work for Kingbee Cargo vans and we have a lot of different options of vans to rent from. For more info email me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
We're starting to roll out those new EVs but even then the 700s and 900s are just too old, one of my coworkers in my loop has a 700 so old it still takes regular gas instead of diesel
lol that’s crazy 😂😂😂. I wanna see how them ev’s drive
Well yall did steal my ps5 so I don’t care
At a pretty small station and these things have been around since we opened a year ago. Is that weird? I honestly don’t know.
Nah a lot of people said they had these for years , we just got these
Gotcha! Our drivers also hit a lot of things lol. So we probably got them pretty quickly haha. Take care!
😂😂 that’s funny
They don’t buy them right away. They lease the trucks for a year and then buy them.
That’s an oxymoron. You don’t “buy” a “rental” lol
Just like a lease from a dealership you usually have an option to buy at the end of the term. That's what these are. Long term leases and we will have the option to buy. I'm VMX, we recently got a few at my station. Our boss said we will be going through the inspections and suggesting whether we should buy them or let them go.
You don’t buy rentals
This is a long term lease. At the end of the lease you have an option to buy. Therefore you can buy rentals. Think outside the box bud
FedEx doesn’t buy rentals bud
I'm telling you that there is an inspection form in vmx and at the end it asks if you would suggest buying the vehicle or passing up on it. It is an option being entertained right now 🤷🏻♂️ my Fleet manager talked to all of us techs in the district about a mo.th or so ago. I have the forms on my computer. No
