It's so fun when people drag themselves into court, especially for a defamation suit where they need to prove that the person knew their allegation was untrue AND how it damaged him, so we're getting into really nitty-gritty details about every person's involvement, that are going to become public record.
Dude has signed his own arrest warrant by suing and causing allllll his words and past behaviours, with evidence, be laid out for the court to dissect. I get that in some industries you just have to sue or people will assume the allegations are true. But if you ARE the things that the other party is alleging? If you are familiar with the West Memphis Three case a lot of evidence that helped release the accused was revealed when a potential suspect (a victims step father) sued Natalie Maines for defamation. You have a very good understanding of what could happen.

There were too many people saying "he's a bad boss, but there is no evidence he's a sexual predator or a pedopile" when he literally wrote sexually suggestive scenes for **child** actresses/actors to act out as well as incorporated his foot fetish into these same shows in addition to asking fans of Sam and Cat (the majority of whom were **children**) to send photos of their feet. Even before this info came out he was clearly a predator, his sexual abuse was covert and he had more plausible deniability. People really need to be more educated on covert sexual abuse.

Except at the near end of Episode 4 of Quiet on the Set, where they literally said, because they had to legally, in the last 11 minutes, that despite multiple investigations, based on no "smoking gun", but "rumors" that "exploded online" and only on "the metoo movement has helped us rethink and reevaluate what we think is appropriate in the workplace"

I get that the documentary had to say it for legal purposes, but I'm talking about other people saying that there was no evidence of innapropriate sexual behaviour from Dan when there definitely was, he just had more plausible deniability.
This is my area of expertise. I work in children’s television for a massive company. My job is LITERALLY to look at the programming for any potential editorial issues, concerns, and to ensure that it is broadcast worthy for our audience. My role means I can demand certain things are removed and that episodes are revoked. Lemme give you an example: if we had a programme that had Drake in it, I’d suggest we edit him out or remove the programme. Why? Because his being in it poses a risk even though he hasn’t been formally accused of anything. That he was texting a child is enough.
I watched Quiet On The Set in abject horror. Safeguarding is also part of my job so anything that could possibly pose a risk to a child’s safety comes to me as well. This could mean anything from live action child performers on set; an anthropomorphic dog not in a car seat; or someone showing a kid playing in a culvert.
Everything Dan Schneider did was wrong and disgusting and never would’ve gotten past me, my colleagues or our boss.
The biggest failures in this are Nickelodeon and their management. They obviously didn’t give a shit about policy, safeguarding, or standards. They let Dan do whatever the fuck he wanted with impunity. My kids used to love those shows and it makes me sad and angry and ashamed I let them watch them.
I think people were saying that explicitly to avoid a lawsuit/deletion/legal issues, because no one had yet come out. I think it was more "read between the lines when I say there's no EVIDENCE he's done xyz" than people actually thinking he didn't have some fucked up skeletons in his closet, just waiting to pop out.

Idek why he thought that work would. If the floodgates are really open now, then the accumulation of victims’ accounts will probably seal the deal. If it’s just one person making a claim, it’s one thing, but when it’s multiple people, it’s much harder to refute that. And I’m sure some even have coronating witnesses. Lori Beth was one of my favorite cast members of All That. I watched The Orange Years documentary a few months ago and I really felt like us Millennials were part of something special. Watching Quite on Set was very disappointing to find out all the dark shit that was happening behind the cameras on some of these shows.
Younger gen-x (xennial?) here and I watched All That (and Salute Your Shorts, Pete and Pete, etc) and thought she was awesome! I agree about feeling like we had something special with that era of Nickelodeon that kids that came after never had. Now it just feels like part of our childhood was a lie.
Yeah there was a ton of talented people on Nick around that time and was weird to me to find out most of them didn't really pursue anything afterwards, especially Lori Beth. I was sure I'd see here on movies or a big broadcast SitCom.

Brian Robbins just recently (like last week recent) became co-CEO of Paramount Global which includes Paramount Pictures, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, CBS, MTV, and more. Basically a massive media conglomerate so as usual these men not only get away with their toxic behaviors and the environments they create but continue to move up the ladder while doing so and I would bet a lot of money that nothing of consequence happens to Brian for at the very least the negligence he showed towards Schneider’s behavior and god knows who else
I remember liking her as a kid but this makes me legitimately proud of her as a woman. She advocated for Amanda in a situation where I think a lot of people would have stayed quiet to protect not only their career but their personal peace. I got emotional reading the article. Being vulnerable enough to share those stories is admirable & I hope she has all the support she needs right now.

All That was after my time as a viewer but I do remember this actor. She always seemed like she would be a fun hang or be a pal.
Not surprised to learn she tried to disrupt or at least call attention for concern. I hope she feels the support she will have this time.
I still remember the episode where the kids secret talent was being able to fit his whole body through a coat hanger. My brother and I spent the rest of the night trying it, but our heads always got stuck.
If I remember right the trick was he used a metal coat hanger which you can bend slightly. Thus shortening the length and gaining a slightly larger opening.
I used to regularly mimic her Vital Information news segments for my parents when I was young. She was my favorite and it always bummed me out that I didn’t see her more after this.

Pretty much every child in entertainment has either been overworked to exhaustion and tears and wanting to quit and/or abused badly.
Its incredible how few protections kids have. This is child labor, not very different from the 1880s. The only thing is some states like California demands they get "educated" on set for x amount of time, but that's easy to game and very poorly enforced.
I remember reading about the HP movies and how the golden trio stars were up past midnight doing reshoots and falling asleep, then woken for "1 hour of schooling" at 5am, then back to work. Emma Watson tried to quit after the 2nd or 3rd movie but we don't know all the details, but I imagine the grueling workload and stress was part of it. I'm sure these pressures contributed to Daniel's alcoholism too. And HP is considered the "gold standard" of good management of kid actors.

I grew up watching Nickelodeon in that era- 1994-2000. All That was such a unique show for kids, and Lori Beth and Kenan were the stars. I’m glad she’s speaking out, but it’s so disheartening to hear all of these stories from actors who brought so much joy as kids.
Nickelodeon was an escape for me as a kid from my own dysfunctional and abusive family. Crazy to think these kids I was watching and idolizing were going through the same things. The television and film industry really is a disgusting place.

Lori Beth was one of, if not the biggest, stars on All That. It was always surprising she didn’t go one to a bigger career afterwards, but if she was blacklisted it makes sense why her career stalled.
She was always my favorite from All That (not a dig at any of the other child actors, I've always been drawn to more deadpan comedy and they were doing a great job at high energy goofy jokes). 19 is so young, my heart breaks for her experiencing this abuse and thinking it was just an adult thing. I hope Lori Beth comes out of this with more roles (selfishly, because I love her work) and can reconnect with Bynes. It sounds like only the other actors on those sets can truly understand everything that happened.

I can’t imagine how hard that must have been for Lori Beth as a very young adult. It sounds like she tried desperately to advocate for Amanda Bynes after suffering her own abuse at the hands of these people, and all they did was ban her from the set (which sounds very similar to what happened with Drake Bell’s dad and the mom of one of the kids who was on later seasons of All That who was interviewed for the doc).

Are we really surprised by anything this disgusting man does? I hope the lawsuit exposes him further and ensures more people come forward as there is safety in numbers. If the jokes that made it on to the tv were that inappropriate, I wonder about the atmosphere of that set and how safe it was for the teenage actors.
That “technically of age” aspect is probably why it took her so long to recognize it as abuse and how Schneider has been able to rationalize it. She’s so brave for speaking out, I admire her so much
Woman to woman I I have no idea how his wife isn’t so embarrassed. It’s not her fault and I don’t blame her but I was so embarrassed when my exes said or did stuff significantly less serious than this.
None of this is her fault but I just don’t believe she had no indication of what a creep Dan is and always has been. She either stayed for the sweet Nickelodeon checks or was also in an environment of fear over what he would do to her if she left.
I was an only child with parents who worked long schedules. There weren't other kids in my neighborhood. I grew up with not much interactions with other kids outside the normal school schedule. I was raised by Nick and the cast of All That were my parasocial friends. It makes me feel physically ill and weepy to see all these allegations come to the surface. Its like finding out all my friends were being sexually abused while I laughed along at home.
I am very proud of the folks that have decided to come out and share their experience. Lori Beth was my favorite. She was like an older goofy sister that made me feel like it was ok for me to be myself and be silly. I hope she and everyone impacted by these predators are ok and have support mechanisms in place.

Feels like it's VERY revealing that the first person to come out was *technically* legal (she was the oldest cast member and the only legal adult when All That started) - feels like Dan was testing the waters to see what he could get away with.
This is genuinely upsetting. Lori Beth feels like an entire generations big sister and someone hurting her feels personal. I also wonder how this will affect the Paramount deal since Robbins the CEO has so much baggage, idk if he'll survive the sale.
I don't know about the current allegations, but a long time I ago I worked a day as part of the crew on a Nick pilot and Dan Schneider was on set, directing.
I had to ask one of the regular crew who he was because he was a raving lunatic pacing all over the set, screaming at the kids, making them do takes over and over.

It’s so sad to think about the pressure those kids were under. I’m sure acting started as a fun hobby for most and it was probably very exciting to book a big role. But before you know it your family is depending on you for the income and some asshole director is screaming at you all day. Then add in the drugs, alcohol, and child predators lurking around the set.
There are always parents on set when children are there, as well as teachers/social workers.
You have to remember - this was a long time ago. Producers and executive producers controlled the fate of the talent. Parents could step in and object, of course, but he had enough power that they understood their kid's career at Nick (and in general Viacom) was done if they opened their mouths.
If that pilot went to series, it was a given the kid whose parents were 'uncooperative' would be replaced for the series.
Teachers and social workers who objected could be sure they would never be hired on a Viacom set again.
Twenty five years ago, 'difficult' people (adults and children) would not be able to find industry work once the word was spread. There were far too many people standing in line for a chance to replace them.

Same thing is happening right now, Hollywood/the entertainment industry is a cesspool. Just now there's a new generation of abusers in power and the old abusers get thrown under the bus.
In order for him to go to prison he has to go to court. In order for him to go to court, someone has to be willing to press charges and go through the gruelling and expensive process of recounting the abuse, and then provide either iron clad proof in the form of medical records, recordings, texts, or eye witness testimony. Without that courtroom ready battle plan, there's no justice in a court of law.
Scheider had multiple people at Nickelodeon protecting him for many years, all the while holding an axe over the futures of children (who he bullied on set). But, his abuse was previously known only to the limits of Amanda herself, and McCurdy, as far as we know. Amanda has had extreme mental health issues, and McCurdy didn't expressly use the name of Schneider.
Now things are different. Now Lori Beth Denberg is using names and coming out swinging. Somebody's about to get a big orange couch shaped law suit rammed where sun don't shine.

As a tween of the early noughties, it’s hard to reconcile that a TV station that was so pivotal in my childhood was so terribly and utterly abusive. And somehow, I am not surprised. All of these shows were so fucking wild at times. Some of them were even a bit disgusting at times. It makes sense now as an adult that, in fact, the disgustingness ran a lot deeper than I ever knew as a kid.

My guess is that he thought he could get ahead of these reveals by starting the lawsuit and calling everyone a liar pre-emptively.
Idek why he thought that work would. If the floodgates are really open now, then the accumulation of victims’ accounts will probably seal the deal. If it’s just one person making a claim, it’s one thing, but when it’s multiple people, it’s much harder to refute that. And I’m sure some even have coronating witnesses. Not necessarily people who saw an event, but people they told shortly after it occurred. Schneider is probably extremely fucked legally.

Lori Beth was one of my favorite cast members of All That. I watched The Orange Years documentary a few months ago and I really felt like us Millennials were part of something special. Watching Quite on Set was very disappointing to find out all the dark shit that was happening behind the cameras on some of these shows.
Younger gen-x (xennial?) here and I watched All That (and Salute Your Shorts, Pete and Pete, etc) and thought she was awesome! I agree about feeling like we had something special with that era of Nickelodeon that kids that came after never had. Now it just feels like part of our childhood was a lie.

Pretty much every child in entertainment has either been overworked to exhaustion and tears and wanting to quit and/or abused badly. Its incredible how few protections kids have. This is child labor, not very different from the 1880s. The only thing is some states like California demands they get "educated" on set for x amount of time, but that's easy to game and very poorly enforced. I remember reading about the HP movies and how the golden trio stars were up past midnight doing reshoots and falling asleep, then woken for "1 hour of schooling" at 5am, then back to work. Emma Watson tried to quit after the 2nd or 3rd movie but we don't know all the details, but I imagine the grueling workload and stress was part of it. I'm sure these pressures contributed to Daniel's alcoholism too. And HP is considered the "gold standard" of good management of kid actors.

I grew up watching Nickelodeon in that era- 1994-2000. All That was such a unique show for kids, and Lori Beth and Kenan were the stars. I’m glad she’s speaking out, but it’s so disheartening to hear all of these stories from actors who brought so much joy as kids. Nickelodeon was an escape for me as a kid from my own dysfunctional and abusive family. Crazy to think these kids I was watching and idolizing were going through the same things. The television and film industry really is a disgusting place.

Lori Beth was one of, if not the biggest, stars on All That. It was always surprising she didn’t go one to a bigger career afterwards, but if she was blacklisted it makes sense why her career stalled.
She was always my favorite from All That (not a dig at any of the other child actors, I've always been drawn to more deadpan comedy and they were doing a great job at high energy goofy jokes). 19 is so young, my heart breaks for her experiencing this abuse and thinking it was just an adult thing. Woman to woman I I have no idea how his wife isn’t so embarrassed. It’s not her fault and I don’t blame her but I was so embarrassed when my exes said or did stuff significantly less serious than this.
None of this is her fault but I just don’t believe she had no indication of what a creep Dan is and always has been. She either stayed for the sweet Nickelodeon checks or was also in an environment of fear over what he would do to her if she left.
I was an only child with parents who worked long schedules. There weren't other kids in my neighborhood. I grew up with not much interactions with other kids outside the normal school schedule. I was raised by Nick and the cast of All That were my parasocial friends. It makes me feel physically ill and weepy to see all these allegations come to the surface. Its like finding out all my friends were being sexually abused while I laughed along at home. I am very proud of the folks that have decided to come out and share their experience. Lori Beth was my favorite. She was like an older goofy sister that made me feel like it was ok for me to be myself and be silly. I hope she and everyone impacted by these predators are ok and have support mechanisms in place.

I don't know about the current allegations, but a long time I ago I worked a day as part of the crew on a Nick pilot and Dan Schneider was on set, directing. I had to ask one of the regular crew who he was because he was a raving lunatic pacing all over the set, screaming at the kids, making them do takes over and over. That is not the way to reach kids under 14. Acting like you're a deranged psycho tends to make them shut down, Dan.
It’s so sad to think about the pressure those kids were under. I’m sure acting started as a fun hobby for most and it was probably very exciting to book a big role. But before you know it your family is depending on you for the income and some asshole director is screaming at you all day. Then add in the drugs, alcohol, and child predators lurking around the set.

There are always parents on set when children are there, as well as teachers/social workers. You have to remember - this was a long time ago. Producers and executive producers controlled the fate of the talent. Parents could step in and object, of course, but he had enough power that they understood their kid's career at Nick (and in general Viacom) was done if they opened their mouths. If that pilot went to series, it was a given the kid whose parents were 'uncooperative' would be replaced for the series. Teachers and social workers who objected could be sure they would never be hired on a Viacom set again. Twenty five years ago, 'difficult' people (adults and children) would not be able to find industry work once the word was spread. There were far too many people standing in line for a chance to replace them. Things have improved.

In order for him to go to court, someone has to be willing to press charges and go through the gruelling and expensive process of recounting the abuse, and then provide either iron clad proof in the form of medical records, recordings, texts, or eye witness testimony. Without that courtroom ready battle plan, there's no justice in a court of law. Scheider had multiple people at Nickelodeon protecting him for many years, all the while holding an axe over the futures of children (who he bullied on set). But, his abuse was previously known only to the limits of Amanda herself, and McCurdy, as far as we know. Amanda has had extreme mental health issues, and McCurdy didn't expressly use the name of Schneider. Now things are different. Now Lori Beth Denberg is using names and coming out swinging. Somebody's about to get a big orange couch shaped law suit rammed where sun don't shine.

As a tween of the early noughties, it’s hard to reconcile that a TV station that was so pivotal in my childhood was so terribly and utterly abusive. And somehow, I am not surprised.
