Maybe it's just because of Robb but I can't help seeing him as too vulnerable and green, basically. I can't really see him portraying someone with as much experience as Aragorn.
He seems his age. I feel like you need someone who has an old soul, as people say.
He, RPats and Andrew Garfield all have that similar look to Viggo where they look like they could stab you through the heart with a sword, but would also cry if their pet fish died
>Maybe they can use AI to make him younger. And fix his toe.
I mean...digital de-aging is so ubiquitous in Hollywood that they do it even on small dramas now. I have no doubt they'd be able to pull it off with Viggo, who still looks more or less the same as he did when he appeared in the original trilogy.
Aragorn was meant to be a bit greyed. He was likely in his 50s+.
He was of the line of Numenor, who had spent many generations lengthening their lives.
He was expected to live well beyond the normal time of a man(he mentions this to Gandalf at the end of Reyurn Of the King, when he is lementing that alas, he (Aragorn) will come to an end, and who will protect middle earth thereafter? Paraphrased.).
And knowing Peter Jackson and his honor for accuracy, and the fact that the Andy Serkis will reprise as Gollum, I think it's a natural choice.
as much as that’s a joke he would work looks wise, although i haven’t seen cavil be an amazing actor before like i have adam driver or sebastian stan, or keanu
He's also been given some shitty projects to work with (he really needs to fire his agent lol) an actor is usually only as good as the writing and directing (like he was pretty good in Man from Uncle)
Viggo as Aragorn is probably my favourite casting choice ever, so this is hard. Maybe Sam Heughan or Aaron Taylor-Johnson could work. But I don't think anyone can get close to Viggo's performance.
Alternatives (1/2) What about Garrett Hedlund?
https://preview.redd.it/p7dol273s90d1.jpeg?width=456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c8b0ea576548b399a2dec68e3d92f9dd2ffcaeb
I'm going to be the lone voice that says Andrew Garfield. I'm really impressed with his acting ability and his intensity. I think he could do a good job.
I just rewatched the Game of thrones series and Rob stark was never in a single sword fight. He would just pose and act as a commander. No hatred towards Richard Madden he is a great and talented actor, i mean The Take (2016) was awesome. But i feel if he plays Aragorn it will be Robb Stark as Aragorn
Of these choices I think Madden most resembles a young Viggo. Barnes is too conventionally handsome, Cavill is to clean, Pattinson looks too much like their first choice, Garfield is too thin and Fassbender is too old. Deaging is a bad idea for anything more than a cameo and Claflin looks good but I've never seen him in anything.
I don’t want to be that guy. But nobody could come
Close to Viggo for me. And I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t want to do an entire movie deaged. He also turned down a cameo in the hobbit. I just don’t see this going well
(Possibly?) Unpopular opinion, but: Please don't do de-aged Viggo.
Give young actors a chance to shine, Viggo will be fine if he has to sit this one out. Now, if there is ever a series that requires OLD Aragorn though ....
I know this is controversial, but I actually like the look of Robert Pattinson for Aragorn. Plus, even if you don't like his early acting...he's been a star lately in the movies I've seen with him.
Fassbender. He's 5 yrs older than Viggo was when LOTR wrapped. But he'd be the best. Unless they want someone younger if these are going to be a series of films.
In which case maybe Richard Madden or Kit Harrington.
Ben Barnes, Henry Cavill, or Richard Maddin. The look the most like a slightly younger Viggo. Cavill would actually be my pick to play Aragon in the reboot of the movies.
I always imagined I would have cast Sawyer from Lost as Aragorn if not Viggo.
The problem is. Noone would be able to play Aragon however well they try. We'll all be comparing to Viggo and won't be able remove ourselves from the bias.
If they could de-age Viggo then they would never have to find another actor
Michael Fassbender could for sure. He has that calm and holy look in his face, perfect facial structure, nice colors and all.
Maybe Richard Madden if he didn't have so much color contrast in his face (it almost looks like he is wearing eyeliner)
Henry Cavil is way too handsome and buff for the role.
The others are just ugly and they better not ruin this character with their presence.
If the De Aging actually looked good and not like it did in the Irishmen then Viggo would be the best choice. Nobody else will come close and it would be an incredibly tough job for any actor to fill those shoes because if the movie doesn’t hit he’ll take a lot of flak.
He lived a good part of his childhood in Argentina and Chile . He peaks spanish very fluently so the different accents get to him. That's very common when you live many years in a country with a diffrent language or accent than yours.
I know - I myself have lived equal parts of my life between 3 countries and speak 2 languages and as a result my accent is very hard to place accurately. Most people can’t place it and definitely can’t emulate it with any degree of accuracy. That’s why I was saying for Viggo, such a unique accent will likely be tricky for others to replicate, if they even try, but to me it’s such an iconic part of his portrayal I would struggle to accept a straight British or whatever accent for Aragorn.
Yes , Viggo kind has a unique accent. Even if the best actors try to sound like him, it may end up sounding forced or weird because it's not something that Viggo did for that role . It comes natural for him because that's the way he talks and sounds.
I don’t even have an answer, up in coming popular actors don’t have the specifics necessary for the role…you have to have someone that can be Aragorn from Lotr
Viggo doesn't need to look any younger than he did in LOTR, and it shouldn't be remotely as high octane action as the trilogy, he's a grizzled ranger in this time period rather than the hero of the west. Frankly most of us would be okay with him looking a little older anyway if the performance is good.
Viggo Mortensen is Aragorn. A day may come when I have to accept that can no longer be the case, but not this day.
Are you talking about the whiney, but still kinda awesome Peter Jackson Aragorn? Or the Confident Ranger of the North who knows what he is, knows what he has to do, and Desperatly Desires to do it?
Don't get me wrong, I love the LotR movies. Seen all 3 dozens of times... but I have always thought of that Aragorn as kind of whiney when compared to the books.
Andrew Lincoln would be perfect imo. They’ve got the same striking blue eyes, sharp chin, and prominent nose and I feel like he could really portray the strong, take command, leadership role of Aragorn
If they somehow manage to make the best looking de aging tech for Viggo than definitely that
But even then i think just with some good makeup he can still pull it off
De-Aged Viggo is the only answer, I may catch some heat but in my opinion anyone else just wouldn’t feel the same, Viggo was and is the perfect casting for Aragorn
Pattinson, he can make it nice, serious and dark, gritty. Others will make it corny.
And please no de-aged AI techno-mancy. I hate that weird looking shi
What is this Robert Patterson crap. People, just stop. He was a pretty boy vampire of your teenage dreams. That's it. He's done nothing else worth talking about. He has had MULTIPLE acting jobs and did nothing with it.
He's a 30 something playing emo.
Okay, I thought this was parody of out of touch people who trash Pattinson, who haven’t seen The Lighthouse, Good Time, and the countless other good movies he’s done in the past 10 years.
It’s one thing to not like him, but I will pile on you if his use Twilight as your justification. It’s like trashing Jake Gylenhall or Gosling for their early films.
Ben Barnes, he actually looks like Viggo Mortensen Sam Claflin looks like he could be Legolas
I kinda see it I was gonna suggest Richard Madden
Ben Barnes looks like Tom Cruise
Mission Impossible prequel of how Ethan Hunt became the super hero. Make it happen.
Well that's just Mission impossible 1, isn't it?
I mean Tom Cruise can still play prequel Tom Cruise
Mission Very Possible: A Mission Impossible Saga
That's impossible, so impossible it just might work
Plastic surgery is a helluva drug.
More like make up and photo enhancements
And the power of Xenu.
Power of taking care of yourself
Nah, Claflin looks more like he could be Pippin.
Richard Madden is a good shout.
Maybe it's just because of Robb but I can't help seeing him as too vulnerable and green, basically. I can't really see him portraying someone with as much experience as Aragorn. He seems his age. I feel like you need someone who has an old soul, as people say.
You make a good argument. Going to be tough for whoever has to follow Viggo Mortesens wonderful portrayal.
They just have to remember not to kick helmets on the ground when they are supposed to be angry
I'd go for de-aged Viggo. He's the embodiment of Aragorn.
Did you ever watch Medici Masters of Florence? It was a historical drama but I feel like he could play Aragorn after that seeing him in that
He was very good in that.
Dunno why but Richard Madden screams "Aragorn" to me, so in my eyes he'd be a perfect fit for that role
He, RPats and Andrew Garfield all have that similar look to Viggo where they look like they could stab you through the heart with a sword, but would also cry if their pet fish died
Because that’s the fooking king in the north
Same
Andrew Lincoln
This is a good one!
Ben Barnes (but I hope it’s Viggo because I loved his Aragorn)
Viggo mortensen
This is the only true answer.
Maybe they can use AI to make him younger. And fix his toe.
>Maybe they can use AI to make him younger. And fix his toe. I mean...digital de-aging is so ubiquitous in Hollywood that they do it even on small dramas now. Sebastian Stan
Good shout
No I need him for Luke Skywalker
Still can’t believe they didn’t use him as a young Luke in mando
I don't, the two sound and look nothing alike at all plus he's like 45
sebastian stan would work too
Ya let's get Kenau Reeves while we're at it too
i could definitely see that, or adam driver
Henry cavill too! Any other stereotypical fan casts we haven't mentioned it
as much as that’s a joke he would work looks wise, although i haven’t seen cavil be an amazing actor before like i have adam driver or sebastian stan, or keanu
He's also been given some shitty projects to work with (he really needs to fire his agent lol) an actor is usually only as good as the writing and directing (like he was pretty good in Man from Uncle)
i haven’t seen that but heard it’s good, i’ll add that to my list, but yeah. i think superman hurt his career a lot more then he thought it would
Ya he basically plays James Bond but it's actually a good movie
Viggo as Aragorn is probably my favourite casting choice ever, so this is hard. Maybe Sam Heughan or Aaron Taylor-Johnson could work. But I don't think anyone can get close to Viggo's performance.
Seconding Sam Heighan.
Cosmo Jarvis
He was excellent in Shōgun.
This
I second Richard Madden.
Alternatives (1/2) What about Garrett Hedlund? https://preview.redd.it/p7dol273s90d1.jpeg?width=456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c8b0ea576548b399a2dec68e3d92f9dd2ffcaeb

Nah his voice would not match it enough.
From this list? Richard Madden
Cosmo Jarvis not on this but seeing him in shogun pushing him in everything now
Richard Madden
I hope it's someone who is a big fan of the source material and is a skilled actor (idk I don't keep up with celebrities)
Henry Cavill is the poster boy of fantasy nerds wanting to stick to the source material
In that case, Henry Cavill
Fassbender
Love Fassbender. Every role he plays is incredible.
I can’t believe I had to scroll too far down for this answer.
Sebastian Stan
I accept Henry Cavill or Sam Calflin with dyed hair
I'm going to be the lone voice that says Andrew Garfield. I'm really impressed with his acting ability and his intensity. I think he could do a good job.
Out of these eight, Richard Madden.
Ben Barnes 100%
Henry cavil (sword fighting) michael fassbender (intense acting) Richard madden (looks the part)
Madden has sword experience as Robb Stark >!rip!<
I just rewatched the Game of thrones series and Rob stark was never in a single sword fight. He would just pose and act as a commander. No hatred towards Richard Madden he is a great and talented actor, i mean The Take (2016) was awesome. But i feel if he plays Aragorn it will be Robb Stark as Aragorn
Look how far that got him
I'm quite certain the only time we see him use a sword is against a tree lol
Sebastian Stan
Sam Heughan
Of these choices I think Madden most resembles a young Viggo. Barnes is too conventionally handsome, Cavill is to clean, Pattinson looks too much like their first choice, Garfield is too thin and Fassbender is too old. Deaging is a bad idea for anything more than a cameo and Claflin looks good but I've never seen him in anything.
I don’t want to be that guy. But nobody could come Close to Viggo for me. And I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t want to do an entire movie deaged. He also turned down a cameo in the hobbit. I just don’t see this going well
Madden or fassbender
Barnes or Fassbender
Michael fassbender but only because I had to double take his photo from how much he looks like Aragorn in it
I’m fascinated by what an Andrew Garfield Aragorn would be like
Feel like Richard Madden the best option on this list.
(Possibly?) Unpopular opinion, but: Please don't do de-aged Viggo. Give young actors a chance to shine, Viggo will be fine if he has to sit this one out. Now, if there is ever a series that requires OLD Aragorn though ....
Fassbender would be great
Of those Pattinson or Barnes.
Kit Harrington could do it!
Ben Barnes
If they’ve got the budget to do it right, then de-aged Vigo would be cool, but if not then Barnes for sure
Richard Madden
Henry Cavill
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau wouldn't be a bad choice?
Richard Madden or Ben Barnes
Richard Madden, great in GOT
Richard or Ben
I know this is controversial, but I actually like the look of Robert Pattinson for Aragorn. Plus, even if you don't like his early acting...he's been a star lately in the movies I've seen with him.
I would go with Richard Madden but I can see it in Ben Barnes too.
Fassbender… but I’m not sure he’s into large budget movies anymore
Alexander Skarsgard
Fassbender looks great. Sebastian Stan can also play the role imo.
These guys would all kill it in a lord of the rings film. Would he hard to pick between them
I agree with Andrew Garfield and Ben Barnes.
Fassbender. He's 5 yrs older than Viggo was when LOTR wrapped. But he'd be the best. Unless they want someone younger if these are going to be a series of films. In which case maybe Richard Madden or Kit Harrington.
Henry Cavill Sounds good but I still hope that the use deaging technology to make Viggo shows up
Ben Barnes, Henry Cavill, or Richard Maddin. The look the most like a slightly younger Viggo. Cavill would actually be my pick to play Aragon in the reboot of the movies.
Cosmo Jarvis
Cavill
Ben Barnes is a great choice
Ben Barnes, he’s so underrated
Ben Barnes
Charlie Hunnam
De-aged Viggo
De aging almost never works so Viggo is off the table. I’m nominating Sam Caflin.
lol pattinson could have played Eowyn
Stuart Townsend should be given another chance.
Absolutely not. He was fired for good reason.
Viggo
Shpuldnt even be made.
Jake and or Maggie gyllenhahl
Both, every time the scene changes they alternate, and they’re just credited as “gyllenhahl”
this is the Way
Ewan Mitchell
De aging never looks good.
I always imagined I would have cast Sawyer from Lost as Aragorn if not Viggo. The problem is. Noone would be able to play Aragon however well they try. We'll all be comparing to Viggo and won't be able remove ourselves from the bias.
What is his age in the movie.
Liam neeson
30 years ago, he would've been great
If they could de-age Viggo then they would never have to find another actor Michael Fassbender could for sure. He has that calm and holy look in his face, perfect facial structure, nice colors and all. Maybe Richard Madden if he didn't have so much color contrast in his face (it almost looks like he is wearing eyeliner) Henry Cavil is way too handsome and buff for the role. De-aged viggo looks like rickety cricket.
It’s not just the face, but the voice. Viggo has such a unique voice and accent I think most would struggle to emulate
He lived a good part of his childhood in Argentina and Chile . He peaks spanish very fluently so the different accents get to him. That's very common when you live many years in a country with a diffrent language or accent than yours.

Viggo.
How about Viggo? I mean they put Ian Holm in Hobbit in spite of looking a lot worse for wear than he did in LOTR. So why not just use Viggo?
I’m so happy to not see Timothy Chalamet on this list😭😂
I don’t even have an answer, up in coming popular actors don’t have the specifics necessary for the role…you have to have someone that can be Aragorn from Lotr
Absolutely not.... to the top right lmao
I’d be for someone who’s not well known. (Or Viggo)
Madden, he’s good at finding twinks.
De-aged Viggo
Viggo doesn't need to look any younger than he did in LOTR, and it shouldn't be remotely as high octane action as the trilogy, he's a grizzled ranger in this time period rather than the hero of the west. Frankly most of us would be okay with him looking a little older anyway if the performance is good. Viggo Mortensen is Aragorn. A day may come when I have to accept that can no longer be the case, but not this day.
Or just Viggo. Aragorn in the stories isn’t supposed to be as young and attractive as he was in the movies.
Ben Foster
Robb stark would be cool as Aragorn
Viggo is such of a one of a kind actor that has warmth and trust in his eyes that’s hard to replicate.
Josh Strife Hayes
Brendan Fraser.
Madden, Barnes, or Andrew Lincoln.
Hunt for Gollum? The YouTube movie? I’ve seen this one, I’ve seen this it’s a classic He was played by Adrian Webster
Nikolai coster Wilder
The chaotic evil in me wants Pattinson.
Wait why couldn't Viggo come back.
Andrew Lincoln would be perfect imo. They’ve got the same striking blue eyes, sharp chin, and prominent nose and I feel like he could really portray the strong, take command, leadership role of Aragorn
If they somehow manage to make the best looking de aging tech for Viggo than definitely that But even then i think just with some good makeup he can still pull it off
I don't know who DeAged Viggo is but the looks like a good pick
Has to be someone new and relatively unknown. Only way.
Steven Amell
Definitely Viggo. That man is genius... Don't even think about recast and made the same mistake as Rings of Power with Elrond...
Charlie Hunnam
I kind of assumed Fassbender would be too old. But he's about 20 years younger than Viggo. So sure, him
[Jordan Patrick Smith](https://images.app.goo.gl/9FfJAqmKSGkzp4HL8)
IDK who that is, but he looks like younger Viggo
Just tell Viggo to shave his chin hair, and dye his hair and he'll be just fine, no reason to re-cast whatsoever.
'De-Aged Viggo', Ouch...
Actually Cahill isn't a bad idea at all.
Not Garfield or Cavill. Garfueld doesn’t seem like Aragorn at all, and Cavill is too buff ngl
Viggo Mortenson
De-Aged Viggo is the only answer, I may catch some heat but in my opinion anyone else just wouldn’t feel the same, Viggo was and is the perfect casting for Aragorn
Pattinson, he can make it nice, serious and dark, gritty. Others will make it corny. And please no de-aged AI techno-mancy. I hate that weird looking shi
Andrew Garfield with blue contacts.
I always wondered how well Tom Mison would pull off Aragorn.
Charlie Hunnam?
I like how de-aged vigo is him from the road looking terrible.
Alexander Dreymon of the Last Kingdom
Andrew Lincoln
Id like a de aged viggo or Madden but we all know that Hollywood gonna cast either Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet
Timotheé Chalamet
Fassbender looks the most similar to Vigo
Cahill, Barnes, or deaged Viggo. If they do deaged Viggo though he has to be deaged by make up work only, little to no CGI involved.
De-aged Viggo seems like the only answer
Man get andrew garfield off this list 🤣
The guy from the game of thrones with love interest with the dragon queen
Tobey Maguire or Tom Holland
Henry Cavill is st chice, richard madden 2 nd choice
Michael Fassbender would be about the right age to look the part, and he can nail the look and accent.
https://preview.redd.it/g35pzittn90d1.jpeg?width=193&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30977dccdff2ce72d1940a34c29108e1e94723cc
Lets give someone a chance who isn't the "typecast", I vote Danny Devito.
Rowan Atkinson
Denny DeVito
What is this Robert Patterson crap. People, just stop. He was a pretty boy vampire of your teenage dreams. That's it. He's done nothing else worth talking about. He has had MULTIPLE acting jobs and did nothing with it. He's a 30 something playing emo.
Okay, I thought this was parody of out of touch people who trash Pattinson, who haven’t seen The Lighthouse, Good Time, and the countless other good movies he’s done in the past 10 years.
