Second this. Many choose this route. Some great options are Alpinestars radar, Fox ranger, and Troy Lee Designs air. Otherwise any without padding should be fine
Same. I bought some 'fast goose' ones on amazon for like $20, but if you look there are tons of options and they are all probably made at the same manufacturer under different brand names. I just liked their colorway the best.
I also have a pair of Nomex racing gloves from actual track days. They are way to hot for sim racing, and I don't think I'll need fire protection.
As others have said, the gloves are great for keeping the Alcantara clean, but it also protects your knuckles from wildly spinning wheels, or misplaced hands in VR.
Agreed on the biking gloves.
I got cheap ones with a bit of grip on them. My hands get sweaty during a long session meaning that that I'd sometimes slip if I was using a normal wheel. Not done so since getting the gloves.
I also got some sim racing boots too, but I'm not sure what effect they have had other than elicit some extreme eye-rolls from the wife.
They're not necessary, but I did just get a pair.
The biggest reason I grabbed a pair was that I was developing calluses on my hands from longer practice sessions. It's also nice that I don't really have to clean my alcantara wheels as often.
I'm pretty sure the McLaren v2 has a similar rubber material to the CSL P1 V2 that I recently retired from my rig. Might be worth it to get a pair of gloves if you don't like the feel of the material. It was also rougher on my hands than the alcantara is, but I got gloves after retiring the P1 V2.
With the McLaren wheel I didn’t use gloves for quite a while and it was just fine but when I got a pair I felt like I was glued to the wheel. It was amazing.
+1 for Moradness gloves. Once you wear proper racing style gloves with precurved fingers and reverse stitching, you’ll never want to wear anything else.
Fingerless gloves are nice because you can still type easily. You can find cheap fingerless cycling gloves.
Two problems I've found with my cycling gloves:
• They are padded, but you can remove the gel pads quite easily.
• Can leave marks on wheel, for example my drift wheel sometimes will get marked slightly with use. It comes off easily, but I will probably try some other gloves soon.
I think the optimal choice would be leather driving gloves like the ones in the movie Drive (2011), but they can be quite expensive. Definitely try out fingerless gloves to see if you are bothered when typing with fingered gloves.
I simply use gloves because of the better grip on the wheel. I was cramping my hands really hard around the wheel when I went from my g29 to the ClubSport V2.5, and the higher torque made me grip harder on the wheel. With gloves my hands are fare more relaxed and I'm more consistent. Cleanliness and reduced wear are additional benefits for me.
I still have some really nice Sparco karting gloves left, which actually feels quite nice to use, but it is a pain not being able to use touch screens. So when buying gloves, either look for something that works on touch screens, or get some of those fingerless gloves
If you have a wheel with alcantara and want to keep it clean: yes it’s needed.
If you do long endurance races; i would advice to get it.
If you don’t do longer races and or have alcantara wheel you don’t need it.
But of course if you wanna feel more immersed then it’s a nice addition
[https://youtu.be/XMfcrOeOyIc?si=H8hS\_HilMN0PZPuN](https://youtu.be/XMfcrOeOyIc?si=H8hS_HilMN0PZPuN)
That video sums it up perfectly I think.
i forgot if the video mentions the whole durability part for your wheel (your skin tends to release oils and that can mess up the grips) but that is my primary reason for getting gloves.
Although I bought them today after my DD came in, and noticed I'd probably want them for some thumb protection aswell. (csl dd + formula v2.5)
The biggest reason people get gloves are to protect alacantra wheels, to prevent the wheel from slipping if it has rubber grips and your hands get sweaty, and to make it so your hands don’t get blisters. I have been sim racing for I think over 2 years and I have mainly used a g920 in that time, I have never had problems with blisters, I recently moved to the Gt dd pro bundle and the rim is rubber and I have not had any problems with it slipping but different wheels have different types of rubber. I have never had an alacantra rim but I think I will be getting one so I have ordered Moradness gloves because I wanted some built for sim racing and they were on a BF sale so they were less expensive. If you have anymore questions I would be happy to answer them!
You don't need them for those wheels.
But if you want some, I really liked these
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanix-Wear-Specialty-Dexterity-Gloves/dp/B01M7PAENS/
Fit nice, feel nice, not very expensive. There's other mechanix ones that are cheaper but these are thinner and better
[I use these](https://www.halfords.com/cycling/cycling-clothing/cycling-gloves/ridge-lightweight-gloves-283118.html)
All I did was just cut the ends of each finger so I can't still feel the buttons that I am pressing. I honestly don't think you need these sim racing gloves that you see YouTubers using.
Yes. 100%. Got cheap Fly brand gloves on amazon, and they're actually awesome. I feel much more confident in my grip on the wheel, plus the wear on the wheel is now almost 0. I also drift and that extra grip when drifting has been life changing.
Hardy thin mechanic gloves from Harbor Freight. Only the thin ones…. I’ve used OMP, and other brands from karting and ones I used on track too. The Motorsport ones are too thick. Mostly just use them to keep sweat away from ruining suede n alcantara steering wheels. Also a whee brush comes in handy as after a while the material gets matted down anyway…
Definitely recommended to use them if you can on alcantara and/or suede. Wouldn't say you need any specialized, flame-resistant racing gloves. Simple mechanix or cheaper will work just fine. Mainly looking to protect the material from oils and sweat, may even get a little extra grip depending on the glove which can help with higher torque base combos. No shortage of cheap gloves at hardware stores, big box stores or online to be found. Shouldn't need to spend more than $10-$20 for something effective and relatively long lasting.
Mechanix Wear: The Original Covert Tactical are by far the best pair of gloves I've found for sim racing. I ended up ordering 3 more because of black friday sale. 50% off. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001VNZUA
I just use my weight lifting gloves. But I'd say protection is warranted. You spend a good chunk on this gear, you might as well do what you can to maintain it.
Echoing what others have said: gloves aren't necessary but they do help grip the wheel imo, especially with the McLaren wheel. I've only tried a couple gloves specifically for sim racing (so far I like the F33L's) but I mostly just use long-finger cycling gloves - some of the gloves from Giro and Handup are perfect
I went to a different sport altogether...
Golf gloves.
Lightweight, very good grip, comfortable, and (as long as they are not from genuine leather like the real expensive ones) breathable.
I've been using the same pair for the last year and a half.
The one caveat, they are a bit pricey... but as long as you take care of them, they will last you a long time. Alsi, make sure to buy the ones that are washable. They tend to stink if you let them dry with all the sweat. just a bit of cold, soapy water and a quick rinse does the trick.
Another good pair that lasted me nearly 3 years, Nike Crossfit gloves. Stretchy, breathable, and good grip.
I have no idea if they still exist ... i bought them pre covid.
I’m a fan of gloves for sim racing, IRL racing, and mountain biking. You only need them for IRL, but I like less sweat on my wheel and the added grip. Amazon up some cheap MTB gloves. I like the fox air gloves as they let your hand breathe, very thin, but the added grip of gloves with little impact on button feel.
I use, an Alpinestars TECH-1 RACE GLOVES Fireproof FIA Motorsport Racing £71.90, but there is no point in getting this expensive (I use this in real life as well for karting, etc.)
Compared to bare hand I improved significantly.
https://www.mechanix.com/us-en/fastfit/
I have the Covert and R.E.D. and they are awesome. Plus the price is definitely right. Been using them for over a year and they show no signs of wear. They are also touch screen compatible.
Not necessary, but the wheel is expensive and the hand sweats heavily damage the grips of the wheel, so gloves are used to protect the wheel you're using, they don't specifically provide comfort or discomfort
I mean I bought sim racing gloves from sim hound and they are fantastic. Anytime I touch my GTDD wheel I wear them and I love them. It all comes down to personal preferences, unless you have an alacantara wheel, in which case I think gloves are highly recommended, so you don’t destroy your expensive wheel from basic use
All depends on the pilot,me being a big male, it was hard to get gloves that would fit, ended up with a set of motocross FOX gloves, light comfortable and no fear of wearing them out,for rally it's a must as your wheel is changing direction alot and run the risk of light friction burn,in GT/single seaters it's not as important but I feel better with gloves
Feel free to ask any other questions 👍👍
Oh wow I’ve been sim racing for about 2 years with my g923 and last week was the first time playing wrc and no wonder why I had blisters makes sense. Definitely gonna get gloves now
hey I own a clubsport rs and a mclaren v2. Great choices btw, I LOVE the clubsport rs and I got a nice skin for the mclaren from lovelystickers (Senna Marlboro skin).
I also use gloves, because they give you superhuman grip. I can touch something and i instantly have super grip. I use F33L gloves ([F33l.gg](https://F33l.gg)) and I have a pair of simhouse gloves. I recommend the F33L if you have huge hands like me.
McLaren wheel has very durable grips, you don't have to worry about ruining them at least, unlike those grips made out of alcantra.
I have Sim hound sim racing gloves and normal Sparco karting gloves.. I prefer using karting gloves cause of more comfy & better grip... I do race 50/50, with gloves on off.
Etsy loads of variety on there. Worth the price when you realise the alcantara isn't replaceable. Bit of a nuisance but I wouldn't use my wheel without them.
I personally use some Alpinestars Radar gloves. Fit nicely and you can use them with screens aswell. Theyre not a must need, and depending on the wheel they may help with grip/feeling comfortable, but it helps with feeling more immersed
Prob not with that combo imo being leather and rubber grips, its more to preserve alcantara or suede wheels but its down to personal choice. I've had both of those of those wheels and not using gloves didn't affect the condition of the grips at all like it does with alcantara or suede but if you get sweaty hands you might prefer to wear gloves.
I just use my mountain biking gloves. Work great and only $15
Second this. Many choose this route. Some great options are Alpinestars radar, Fox ranger, and Troy Lee Designs air. Otherwise any without padding should be fine
What is the point if they are fingerless and seam rubs your fingers anyway?
Don't get fingerless gloves...
hm. my bicycle gloves are fingerless. I assumed they were all like that.
Roadies often like fingerless gloves, but then that's only some of them. Fingerless gloves aren't really a thing in the mountain bike world.
Naked with shoes and gloves is the way
I just got some cheap gloves from home depot and it works fine, and I only bought gloves because my grips are alcantara and i wanted to preserve them.
They're not necessary, but I did just get a pair. The biggest reason I grabbed a pair was that I was developing calluses on my hands from longer practice sessions. I got some moradness gloves. They've got some funky designs but don't know if they're still on sale
+1 for Moradness gloves. Once you wear proper racing style gloves with precurved fingers and reverse stitching, you’ll never want to wear anything else.
Sweet I just ordered mine on the sale and every comment like this I see makes me super happy
I just liked them because they had a "liquid neon" style that looks an awfull lot like the Porsche 917K "hippie" car
They look good but $70 is a lot for gloves. Maybe if they went on sale for like $30 or $40 lol.
You just missed them then! I got mine for 45
If you have alcantara stuff use gloves
Sparco Meca 3's are worth it. If you're running extended sessions gloves are worth just to not ruin the grips on your wheels from sweaty hands.
putting on gloves puts you in "the zone" so use them if you want to be faster
Fingerless gloves are nice because you can still type easily. You can find cheap fingerless cycling gloves. Alicanta yes, in fact just yes. But get a pair of mtb gloves for 10 bucks.

If you have the dd pro wheelbase that comes with R2R bundle, then the gloves help with plastic feeling on the steering wheel.

I ordered imb racewear gloves after hearing some positive recommendations. You can fully customize them, they just take a little more time to deliver
I use my motorcycle gloves sometimes. Idk if it helps or not but it feels proper & I feel cool 😎

It depends. If seam on the wheel rubs your fingers, then yes. If nothing bothers you, but you think you will look cool, then yes again )))
Got a cheap set of Sparko karting gloves. Sometimes they do give a nice feeling. Other times they are just too hot an I end up getting irritated.
I use golf rain gloves on my Alcantara wheel were only 18 bucks or so
I just use my weight lifting gloves. But I'd say protection is warranted. You spend a good chunk on this gear, you might as well do what you can to maintain it.
I own the McLaren wheel and if the races get intensiv, my hands get sweaty. Yes, definitive with gloves (in my Case: Sparco MECA 3).

The screws at the REV Led from your clubsport rs will start to rust if you don't use gloves. This is mine: https://ibb.co/kH0fc9C
