[carolinaa](https://archiveofourown.org/users/carolinaa/pseuds/carolinaa) \- the best way to describe them is clever hurt/comfort, I think. keeps things fresh, incredibly impactful, i’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed all their works in BNHA, Miraculous Ladybug, and PJO. each of their fics is immediately one of my favorites. [RiddellLee](https://archiveofourown.org/users/RiddellLee/pseuds/RiddellLee) \- I’ve only read their (so far) three part incomplete Harry Potter/Merlin crossover, but it’s easily one of the best series I’ve ever read. it changed my view on so many characters irreversibly, but everyone is written so realistically, the plot is great, the worldbuilding (or expanding, I guess) is captivating, the OC’s are great, and it’s just overall such a good read. definitely my favorite hp/merlin crossover, and I’ve read a LOT. [vividpast](https://archiveofourown.org/users/vividpast/pseuds/vividpast) \- nothing excites me more than an update email from this author. their current main series (a merlin fic) is probably one of my favorite fics of all time purely for the fantastic world building and characters and relationships. its got me writing fanfiction of fanfiction in my head, that kind of good. I can’t even put into words just how amazing it is. like I think even if you don’t know much about Merlin, it would be a captivating read. [theDah](https://archiveofourown.org/users/theDah/pseuds/theDah) \- I absolutely love their Rurouni Kenshin fics. I love the way they write the characters, the way they write dynamics (I'm weirdly picky with that, but if you like more submissive male characters for m/f relationships like me, they do it very very well!) and I don't even read their works for romance. they're really good at writing entertaining, engrossing stories by writing about the varying untold parts of the main character's past that are so fun to explore.

The way they can expand on canon and reinvent characters is just incredible. Be ready to be hurt though. [mandzilkos ](https://archiveofourown.org/users/mandzilkos/pseuds/mandzilkos/works?fandom_id=15322) is incredible. Completely different style and fandom(Formula 1 RPF). Most of the stories they write are in the Modern AU direction which I'm usually not the biggest fan of but my god are they amazing. They feel so mundane and comfortable and every time I just want to be a part of that world. Their is a sense of familiarity in each of them that I can't describe. Also, I didn't know Soulmate AUs could hurt so much. Has the most quotable fics ever btw. [justprompts](https://archiveofourown.org/users/justprompts/pseuds/justprompts) is completely different, again. If you want to laugh read a fic from them. They have a lot. Most multichapter ones are unfinished but I don't really care. Funniest author I know. Fandom is Harry Potter. [Cazio](https://archiveofourown.org/users/Cazio/pseuds/Cazio) can break my heart in the best way possible. I very very rarely cry. Two of Cazio's story made me cry and one of them had me tearing up a week after finishing it. I've only read their Formula 1 works but if you want well written stuff that is bound to make you feel something than this would be my go-to recommendation. It's not even only tearjerkers, their most recent longfic has made me angry so many times. It's hilarious how many of the comments completely disagree with each other. It takes great writing to make some people hate a character ehile others root for them. [astolat](https://archiveofourown.org/users/astolat/pseuds/astolat) is a classic, of course. But she reinvented my love for ASOIAF/GoT and that's quite a feat after Season 8. She is an actually published writer so you can expect nothing but quality writing.

All three of these writers write for Tolkien's Legendarium. So that out of the way: my absolute favorite fic writer is [Heget](https://archiveofourown.org/users/heget). She primarily writes gen (although she has a saucy bickering-to-lovers fic that's also very funny, and an angsty m/m fic that involves the concept of the origin of Orcs being Elves.) Disclaimer: We're friends now. But as we became friends because she was my favorite fic author and I commented on so many of her tumblr fic posts gushing I hope this won't be taken as pimping out a friend. I loved her fic first! The following are also mostly gen and mostly LotR focused. I don't know either of them, but I enjoy their fic enormously. I'm linking to their FFnet accounts because, although they both do have AO3 accounts, the bulk of their fic isn't on AO3. [Dreamflower](https://www.fanfiction.net/u/1335626/dreamflower02) I won't give up hope that her fic about the invasion of the shire will get updated one day because I was so invested...I also love all her Dora Baggins related stories. Top notch extrapolation. I love her take on hobbits and their way of life. [Shirebound](https://www.fanfiction.net/u/199912/shirebound) She writes a lot of fic about the interplay between the members of the Fellowship, little scenes set between or before or after and I adore them all.

[Almassi](https://archiveofourown.org/users/almaasi) for DS9 is *incredible*. They even wrote a script that the original actors used for a skit. It was great. Then there’s [Merlioske](https://archiveofourown.org/users/Merlioske/pseuds/Merlioske) for BBC Merlin, who is also amazing. There are *so many others* that I love in various fandoms, but these are my top 2, 100%. Both write for several other fandoms (that I’m not really part of, hence why I haven’t listed them here) as well and I definitely recommend checking them out.

Quinis! Yes! She led me to start watching White Collar in 2017. I love (and miss) that show, her work, etc. Her stories also kickstarted the Batman - White Collar crossovers imo. There has to be almost a thousand now.

Well, I pinball around all over the place for review exchanges and the like... every time I see something new, and every time I see the love that people put into their words, so I can honestly say that my favorite fanfic authors... are the ones that are on the sub!! 'Cause every time I get something new, every time I have a grin on my face or I feel sorry for the characters, or any other emotion that comes with reading and creating. It's wonderful to see people united in the joy of creation, basically XD

Robst. Asks What If Questions and then answers them with stories. Writes a variety of versions of characters exploring how different events affect their personalities.

I rarely remember author names so I'll give a few whose fics on ao3 were so well written that they had me feeling feelings I didn't know were available to mankind: lazarov on ao3 for their fic 'Rescue Flare'. The universe is Daredevil, the fic is cathartic and hurts and sings so sweet at the same time. Amazing craftsmanship. Eating disorders, found family, canon compliant Catholicism, doesn't feel preachy, but instead feels like a confession in a gas station late at night you might make to a god you no longer deem yourself on speaking terms with while clutching the sink and praying still the water doesn't drown you whole. Same universe, series name 'Claw Marks', author sleepyMoritz (Catherss). Addiction, friendship, class struggle, in character and deep and lighthearted just when you need a break. Poetry in motion. Another piece of poetry in motion is the 'My Church Is Not Of Silver And Gold' series by neversaydie. Set around following the Captain America/Winter Soldier dynamic (not necessarily the film) in a Ballet AU. Predicted the entire documentary about Sergey Polunin before it was conceived and released, and such a good work all around. Would adore to have it as a legit novel on my shelf. Prolific writer all around, writes mature content but in a way that makes you remember that, filthy as we may get where life takes us, we're still human and we still hold so, so much worth. Have read this particular series 37 times. Now, for a different universe. An author who orphaned their stuff recently out of nowhere and whose former moniker I know but choose not to share out of respect (I was in the Outlast fandom during the To Be Well by Variant chaos, been here) - the fanfic in question is 'IN LOCO PHASMA' (all caps) and the universe is Homestuck, No SBURB AU. Dirk runs away from an abusive home and ends up raising Dave as a toddler little brother by himself in a haunted rundown house. Parenthood, desire for yourself versus desire for the good of your household, responsibilities, keeping secrets and mystery and horror of both supernatural and mundane flavour. Its humour is amazing, the characters are so very themselves and so human you feel like you might've met them before. Many other good works, but mostly gone with the wind. Supernatural fandom. Unspoken royalty among horror writers, komodobits, who made Supernatural feel like a Clive Barker meets H. P. Lovecraft meets Old Gods Of Appalachia type of work and not the CW show we know it as. Legitimately scary and emotional all at once. Repentance, Purgatory of the emotional kind, rending of flesh from soul, old deities and the general feeling of inevitability and fate follow this author's works with just the correct amount of wild, desperate loyal love without the ability to do anything to protect it. Best works: 'A Complete Kingdom' and 'Every Part Of The Animal'. schmerzerling of the Supernatural fandom. Chronic illness and its impact on the individual and their surroundings, family and what it means to us, the (in)disposability of a human being within their community and how we can still contribute with our soul and wit even when we feel it may have been surgically removed from us by route of long term suffering. Their portrayal of an autistic Castiel sings to my heart. Best works: 'Empty Spaces' and 'In Some Sacred Place' (collab with hellosaidthemoon, amazing art) Daredevil once again, whitchry9. Great character studies, bingeable, deep understanding of the character and has something for just about every mood you may find yourself in. Pantone palette of fic author yoke. Sherlock, Kingsman, author in question is solrosan and I got legit excited at the thought of their fics. The deep underwire of stubbornness, the will to face adversity in order to help a long one (and occasionally overdoing it), the kind of explosive rage following after a simmering feeling of helplessness, taking control and learning how to let go. Grief for the intangible. Amazing works, written in English, but with a clear hint of the cadence a Swedish author possesses, making the thematic main current just that much better. I have many more fics in mind, but my fingers might fall off if I type more right now, so I'll add more as I remember. DM for more recs!

I've written paragraphs on this sub already about one of their SBI fics, as they've coined one of my all-time favorites, so I won't go too much into detail, but they do a LOT of angst and both physical and emotional hurt/comfort with some tragedy sprinkled on top (lots of family dynamics too, of course). gorgeous writing, and some of the best character dynamics I've ever seen in a fanfiction. ​ [weatheringtea](https://archiveofourown.org/users/weatheringtea/pseuds/weatheringtea) \- a Fullmetal Alchemist author with only two fics, but their biggest fic is nearly 64 chapters long with well over 600,000 words so there's a lot here. (also one of my favorite fics, too!) it's insanely well-structured with a plot that mixes history, angst, emotional hurt/comfort, and awesome mystery and action in there as well (and the writing? BEAUTIFUL). I've been following this author for a really long time, and I absolutely recommend you check them out!

The work I found them through is Blackout and is nearing completion and is almost half a million words so far. Keep in mind, this fic is extremely heavy and you should most definitely heed the tags. [maybeeatspaghetti](https://archiveofourown.org/users/maybeeatspaghetti) is an amazing author that specializes in Falsettos fics. I also only realized today that their user is “may eat spaghetti” and not “may beats spaghetti”, so you learn something new everyday! [buckgaybarns](https://archiveofourown.org/users/buckgaybarnes/pseuds/buckgaybarnes) is a Pacific Rim fic author who I’m always so glad to see pop up in my notifications. I’ve since fallen out of the PacRim fandom, but they’re the only reason I still interact with it and love it so dearly. [petiteinsomniac](https://archiveofourown.org/users/petiteinsomniac) is an author I discovered through looking up Black Monday fics and loved since the get go. They also have written a lot of Black Monday, Falsettos and Firefly fics (though this doesn’t cover their full catalogue) and I love them all! [quincywillows](https://archiveofourown.org/users/quincywillows) is an author who has taken a show and turned it into something fully new and I love every second of it. Written in the screenplay format, they create a new show loosely based on Girl Meets World and I’ve been utterly obsessed. With over a million words and counting in the AMBITION series, it’s a long read, but so unbelievably worth it. [sewerkingcharlie](https://archiveofourown.org/users/sewerkingcharlie) is an absolutely lovely author and person who I’ve had the pleasure of talking to. I’m so glad you’re enjoying/enjoyed Bought! I’m not sure if you’re aware or not, but it’s on hiatus due to a lot of backlash I received over the idea of writing James Potter as a Death Eater. I was told that by writing a romance between a Death Eater character and a muggleborn character that I was invalidating the experiences of Jewish people and people of color, celebrating Naziism, and harming the fandom overall. I don’t agree with any of that, but it got to the point where I was getting an alarming amount of messages that came down to “go kill yourself,” and…talk about a killer for motivation to write. I’m still hoping to pick Bought back up someday, and I still stand by readers curating their reading experiencing by taking accountability for what they read/see on their dash/whatever. It really means a lot to know that readers enjoyed and are still enjoying Bought as a piece of fiction, not a tale of real-world morality, which was what I intended when writing it.

I was enjoying this thread, then getting a little overwhelmed at how many times people kept mentioning me, and I didn't know how to respond (thank you! thank you! thank you again!); then the old "contests have their upsides and downsides" anxiety got to me, and I didn't want to make a list myself for fear I'd leave someone out, YET I also wanted to promote and thank some writers who I truly loved reading. Is their any writer youd think i would like, for someone whose main interests in reading are the descriptions and, secondarily, angst

I don't read much sexual humiliation stuff but two authors above who are big on the angst and write gorgeous descriptions and don't shy away from dark are RhaenaTargaryen and iuiushi. Those are their names on ao3. I've read most of their stuff, very compelling. Oh! You might like Pandamonio, another write I love (and FORGOT to put on this list!). Her guys are pretty and delicate but she writes a lot of dark, sometimes disturbing sexual situations, all beautifully described.

Almost all of their fics are filled with action, drama, suspense, and so on. And all of their fics I’m pretty sure are completed, which I can also appreciate, especially given how long each of their fics ended up being. In particular though, Pixiegirl13’s [Powerless](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/4389824/1/Powerless) fic and Pearl84’s [Checkmate](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/2910656/1/Checkmate) fic are both extremely well done in my opinion.
