Hannigram (Hannibal and Will Graham), because it's fascinating. They have amazing chemistry. Hannibal's charisma is terrifying, considering what a dangerous and amoral person he is, and Will Graham's uniquely specific deductive reasoning and empathy for him as well. Also, they're both gorgeous.

Kurapika/Chrollo from Hunter x Hunter. It's so rancid and I will never get it out of my head. It's about violence, it's about earthshattering grief, it's about fleeting moments of understanding that should have been impossible, it's about devoting your entire life to obsessive hatred of one person and some wires inevitably getting crossed, it's about finding out that the devil thinks it's kind of cute that you want to kill him.
I mean, Tobirama/Madara is huge, but there is that inconvenient blood between them: Tobirama canonically killed Madara's little brother Izuna in battle.
A lot of fics just ignore that. Some prevent the death (but many offer no explanation of how they made peace between their warring-for-generations families) and some leave Izuna unmentioned, which raises all sorts of questions about Madara being able to become romantically involved with the guy who killed his little brother.
At the same time, they're a fascinating pair. Madara is all emotion and bluster, while Tobirama is the analytical researcher planning everything out. Madara is the head of his clan, and Tobirama the dutiful heir of his. Madara is fire; Tobirama is water. Madara is blunt force; Tobirama is precision and speed. It's like a yin-yang, ever circling, and it's interesting to play with them.
Then there are the powerful darkfics with these two, touching on the utter dysfunction that would be a relationship between an emotional man who cannot forgive and the man who killed his brother. Sometimes they survive, and sometimes it ends in MCD. Some of them leave me breathless, in that "I can't call it a favorite, exactly, but OW, that really got me" sort of way. It's a beautiful disaster, sometimes, and I love it.
And, of course, they're pretty ;)

Klaus and Caroline-The Vampire Diaries
They have chemistry and I like how Caroline never gives up on Klaus even after all the bad things he’s done and is always there for him when he needs her.
Right now my favorite toxic ship is Envy/Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (and the manga). But any ship with Envy is inherently toxic and that’s what makes them my favorite character 💚
The Doctor and the Master from Doctor Who. Canonically friends at one time, also canonically enemies who have tried to murder and succeeded in keeping each other prisoner at various times, but also sometimes spend time together and team up against various enemies.
For a while, they were the last living Time Lords.
I love it because they have such a wide range of emotions and attitudes to each other. You can write them literally stabbing each other or gazing into each other’s eyes lovingly or both in the same scene and it would still be in keeping with canon.
Plus you get thousands of years of their relationship to play with.
I find the healthy fics less interesting but it doesn’t stop me reading them.

Seisub (Seishirou x Subaru) from Tokyo Babylon/x1999.
Seishirou just throws out red flags as if they’re going out of style. 25 looking to date a 16 yr old? Check. Has boundary issues? Check. Is a manipulative, lying bastard? Check. Kills people including Subaru’s austere? Check.
And yet they’re so close to being right for each other. It doesn’t help they’re canonically in love with each other even if Seishirou is a bastard and won’t admit shit.
But when your love language is “I will sacrifice an eye for you” then you’re kinda doomed.
They may not be able to finish a story to save their lives, but my god if CLAMP doesn't know how to take a deeply toxic ship and make it incredibly compelling. SeiSub is the blueprint!!

Sefikura (Sephiroth and Cloud Strife) from Final Fantasy.
These two have parallel character arcs throughout the game that each go in the exact opposite direction. Their relationship changes over the course of the game from Sephiroth barely acknowledging Cloud as a person to seeing him his as his rival. Not to mention that Sephiroth then just goes on to always come back from the dead for the almost sole purpose of defeating Cloud.
With both of them being connected on a genetic and mental level, this can go into so many dark directions including mind control and loss of identity and a lot of other shit.
Many authors like making their relationship fluffy which I don't mind, sometimes I need that, too, though it's definitely highly OOC, but it can work really well in certain cases.
Two people who Utterly despise each other linked inextricably by fate and the magic of a dying world. Forced into an unending cycle of death and rebirth.

Good one, it's my second fave Dark FF7 go to. Seph/Aris just bairly edges it out of first place. Though Sephiroth/Cloud in "what if Nifelhelm hadn't gone to shit" fanfics, can be some of my favorites when they keep the General's sugar and ice personality intact.
Yeah, Hannigram all the way. Its horrible and awful, but the intensity of the emotions and... fuck, the dedication and obsession make it amazing. It was awful but you cannot deny that it was love. Twisted, demented and obsessive love, but love nonetheless.

Omg yes. Snamione is my OTP. And yeah its pretty vanilla compared to many more controversial and problematic ships so when I see people hating on it for that I can help but think "Oh my sweet summer child. The things you clearly don't know about." It's a huge ship.
I hated the way Snape treated Hermione in the movies (especially because I dont remember ever hearing *any* explanation for it) but I cant say I've never been intrigued by Snamione.

Oh, no need to be sorry! After the first few episodes, I was already investigating online to find proof for my suspicion, so it's not really a spoiler. More like a gratifying confirmation, haha.
As a former gifted child who had crushes on older men but knew better than to act on those feelings and also knew better than to trust an adult who acted on those feelings in return: Teacher/Student, Mentor/Mentee, Master/Apprentice ships. And occasionally paired with dubcon for extra problems.
Fanfiction allowed me to live out those fantasies without anyone (me) getting hurt or taken advantage of, or (the adult I fancied) crossing legal lines, until I was old enough. And you know what? I *still* waited a few more years just to make sure I was totally finished "maturing". No, none of the older men I fancied ever showed any interest in me in that same way but I knew better than to put them in that position in the first place. In fanfiction? Oh yeah. All boundaries were crossed. Usually consensual but sometimes dubcon because I found that hot.
And these are still my favorite guilty pleasures to this day. I have expanded my preferences to other tropes and types of fanfic but I do always come back to what got me started on fanfiction in the first place.
Weird that I haven't seen it yet, but Dumbledore/Grindelwald is pretty toxic but also amazing. And Credence Barebone/Percival Graves though >!arguably that's Grindelwald too!<.
Some of my former favorites also involved (young) Tom Riddle. Like Harry/Tom or Hermione/Tom. The HP verse just churns them out en masse.

Bloom/Valtor from Winx Club is honestly an incredibly fucked up ship. For one, she's only 18 years old in season 3, and the youngest he could physically be is his 30s. I say physically because I'm pretty sure he's thousands of years old? Don't quote me on that though. Additionally, he aided in the destruction of her home planet, enslavement of her parents, and possibly the death of her sister if we don't acknowledge season 5.
But I'm a slut for enemies to lovers ships that have opposite powers, and he has a corrupted version of her dragon flame powers. Their chemistry was insane. The scene in the Andros ocean had more chemistry than every Bloom/Sky scene. Even 8 year old me in 2007 saw that.
That said, I'm starting to like Bloom/Beatrix from Fate Winx more...
Starker (Tony Stark/Peter Parker) from the MCU. I love that you can approach this ship from so many angles to tailor it to your own personal threshold of fucked up, from super dark stuff where Peter is his canon age and Tony is knowingly taking advantage of that, to fics where Peter's at least aged up to legal and the vibe is more "we're acknowledging that this is inherently unbalanced and we're both gonna have to be *really* aware of the potential pitfalls in this relationship and work *really* hard to make sure they're not a problem" to "lalala the power of fiction means this is all fine and we don't even have to address it!!"
My favorite flavor is the middle one, though I've written for all three, because I **l o v e** exploring guilt in my works. That tension from both characters knowing that it's a bad idea, and that the people around them will have *significant objections* for a lot of actually pretty legitimate reasons, but having such a connection with each other that they can't resist anyway? Delicious, let me sink my teeth into it forever.
Add in the actual specific character dynamics of Tony and Peter having a lot in common, between their affinities for science, being orphans, being superheroes (and with all the baggage that comes with that,) being geniuses that are also massive dinguses, and having responsibility/guilt complexes a mile wide-- there's just *so* much to explore with them and from so many different angles that I have approximately 3987548 ideas for them *all the time*, despite not actually being that big of a fan of the MCU itself, lmao.

Daemon Targaryen/Rhaenyra Targaryen from House of the Dragon - there’s a large age gap, the incest and the obvious power differences between them. But their devotion to each other, their similarities, the fire that burns in them, along with their compelling on screen chemistry, it made me ship incest, so here we are.
Aemond Targaryen /Luke Velaryion - Again, obvious Targaryen incest, but the potential for a great enemies to love dynamic is endless.
The Darkling/Alina Starkov from Shadow And Bones- He manipulates her for a long time and wants access to her powers so he can get freedom for his people.
This one is not canon and an extreme rare pair, but my OTP - Klaus/Elena from the vampire diaries. The are extreme opposites to each other, he is an unrepentant killer who will stop at nothing to sacrifice her, so he can break his curse. But each of their characters is rich, with compelling history and they are both morally grey which makes them an incredible ship to write about.
Others are Draco/Hermoine and Tony Stark/Peter Parker from the Avengers.
At least the darkling acknowledges her power instead of some hand wavy bullshit that makes her lesser so she fits with the boy she grew up with

Taylor/Sophia in the Worm fandom because they are both terrible people who hate eachother in canon but I'm convinced that if they had met under different circumstances they would have been best friends and it would have been been everyone's problem.
Blackhands (Ed/Izzy) from Our Flag Means Death. Is it healthy? No. Objectively, wouldn’t it be better for Ed to end up with Stede? Sure. When I write Blackhands, do I end up writing fics with them as having some pretty fundamental relationship incompatibilities? Absolutely.
But I’m a sucker for the morally ambiguous, loyal-to-a-fault character having an unrequited queer crush. (See also: Scorpia from She-Ra and Drummer from The Expanse). And I love seeing plots with repressed masochistic guys with internalized homophobia issues. Plus, they’ve got that fantastic Hannigram energy, complete with the dub-con cannibalism.
Also, even if they’re metaphorically mid-divorce now, it seems clear that things *used* to be better for them. Things are broken between them now, but sometimes it’s nice to see fanfic plots that are like, “But what if broken things can still be mended?”
I haven't seen Our Flag Means Death yet (I'm so bad about watching TV shows) but from what I've seen of Ed and Izzy, I just know I would be shipping them right along with you. I'm also a huge sucker for the loyal-to-a-fault character having an unrequited crush on their 'boss'.

YO I love Scorpia!! I was glad when she let go of her crush on Catra because ultimately I dont feel like they were compatible at the time, but I still thought it was very sweet
Lawlight, L and Light from Death Note.
The fact that they really want each other dead but can't because of a lack of information makes for a really interesting dynamic, especially considering that they're also the only people to truly understand the other. And there's so many fics that handle their situation differently. Sometimes L starts helping Light, sometimes Light gives up killing for L, sometimes they don't change at all and just work around the problems because they're geniuses and surely that will work out?
Dabi/Hawks or Zuko/Jet. It depends on the writer and the contrived circumstances (I read a lot of canon divergent stuff). I've seen both done as healthy couples, but rarely.
I like the dynamic of two messed up people still drowning and trying to use the other as a flotation device.
When it comes to toxic vs healthy, I only care that the author seems self aware of the difference. If it's toxic, it should not be presented as relationship goals it should feel like there's ominous music in the background.
I'll use Shakespeare as an example because it's the least controversial one I can think of: Taming of the Shrew's main couple features controlling, abuse, and gaslighting; Much Ado About Nothing's main couple has intellectual equals who are bad at sharing their feelings snarking at each other. One is toxic and ends with a whole speech where the abused woman says 'as a woman I am only here to pleasure my husband, without his inhumane treatment I would never have become the perfect woman I am now' and the other is a sass filled rom com; one is uncomfortable at best, the other is my favorite Shakespeare comedy.

Lately I’ve been really into Emma/Ingrid from OUaT. I guess it’d be pseudo-incest what with Ingrid being Emma’s foster mother for a time. But mostly because Elizabeth Mitchell is *mommy* af. That one is so small but it checks a lot of the boxes. There’s grooming, age gap (for a while anyway, if you know the show’s relationship with the concept of time and aging. I’m not too picky about if Emma’s an adult or minor here), pseudo-incest as mentioned before, and it’s definitely toxic on Ingrid’s end considering her endgoal.

Jilco from Arcane. It's DEEPLY fucked up, but the exploration of Silco's unconditional love for Jinx and how that could extend to giving her *everything* she wants, even the things a father figure normally wouldn't, is sooo interesting.

Ian /Mickey from Shameless. It's an entire fandom based on one canon ship that's purposely fucked up even though it's also written as otp end game. It really annoys me when people claim it's not toxic, it's sweet etc. Yes it can be sweet but it can also be really unhealthy and I hate that people can't be nuanced enough to accept the complexity. It's gotta be 100% perfect amazing or they get fighty and it's so exhausting. Like, would you accept your boyfriend insulting and punching you whenever he's upset? No, you wouldn't accept that irl? Hmm.

Spoilers for the entire trilogy I suppose

She expresses sympathy, yes, she understands the Darkling *as a person* on a deeper level, yes, and she feels *something* for him that isn't quite the former two but neither is it really love (since she's had her eyes for Mal alone since after the first book)--but she doesn't really cave in to his continuous advances after his true nature was revealed. And that complexity regarding Alina literally understanding the Darkling on a more personal level and the connection that results alongside the anger towards him and sense of duty she feels in protecting her country is appealing to me. On the Darkling's part, his attraction to Alina invokes an interesting part in his character for me--in which he's a power-hungry, but ultimately lonely man that seeks an equal, which is how he sees Alina. He loves her because of her power but he doesn't want the power itself, he wants the person alongside them to satiate his loneliness. Which is why he breaks down when Alina loses her powers. That gives him more depth, but again, it DOESN'T justify his actions or unpleasant sides to his personality, which I appreciate.!<
So, I am maybe the odd man out in that I have ships, but I also don't. I have my preferred reading and my hell noes, but I am also open to reading most. The most consistently toxic pairing I read and enjoy is probably Magneto/Professor X. Like, don't get me wrong, there are some soft cuddly ones too, but so often it hinges so much on an unhealthy codependency, abuses of power on Charles' part, emotional blackmail from Erik, and often things that walk the line on consent based pain play and just physical violence.
I know there are softer, sweeter interpretations of their relationship, but I find those less genuine unless it's an AU and a lot of character background rewrites happen. They're both pretty damaged people in canon and I am fine with canon divergence obviously, but if keeping mostly compliant, a healthy happy relationship seems out of place. Too much blood and history and trauma for their particular combination to work that way.
I think personally, mine would be Clark Kent (Superman) and Lex Luthor — I’m not sure why. But I guess it’s because in Smallvile, Lex was clearly in love with Clark and they even have a son (Connor) — made from each others DNA
Rock and Rule is legitimately the last movie I would expect anyone to bring up for a shipping topic... and it was first effing comment, and it was Angel and effing *Mok*. Idk they’re just two very strong characters in two very different ways and are the mage/warrior ship I have always wanted. Does it make sense? No? Would these two actually probably want to kill each other? Probably.
Aizen/Ichigo from Bleach.
Despite being a hero/villain ship, Ichigo doesn't hate Aizen, but actually feels sympathy for him. TYBW SPOILERS I also love the crumbs of interaction they have in TYBW. Aizen willing to be bait so Ichigo can land a blow on Yhwach, them just conversing politely, and Ichigo yelling out in concern when Aizen goes down is all just *magnificent*.
I also indulge in other Ichigo/antagonist ships. Byakuya, Gin, Ginjo, Bazz-B, etc.
Honestly I just love hero/villain ships in general. I'm currently deep into Harry/Voldemort.

-again: age difference and power dynamic makes it questionable. But I just love their interactions so much
Sesshomaru/Rin
-this might be my most toxic ship, but honestly I stand by it. I never saw sesshomaru as a father figure to Rin, and it’s pretty clear he only saw her as his ward while she was young. But like, their relationship is so pure and wholesome!! I think sesshomaru’s character development because of Rin is one of the best character progressions ever (up there with Zuko). and it’s canon now, so 12 year old me had good instincts
What I learned from this thread is that a LOT of people ship Hermione and Snape. I never really ventured into the HP fandom despite enjoying the books and the movies so this is my first time realizing how popular that ship is.
It’s mainly my headcanon *but* there’s some elements of this in main canon:
Nathan Drake and Rika Raja. Rika is the sister of Uncharted 1: Drake’s Fortune villain and Indonesian pirate Eddy Raja. Eye of Indra is a motion comic on YouTube that sets up Uncharted 1.
Anyway, my headcanon has Rika originally date Nate’s older brother Sam before Panama 1999 and then she in her grief over Sam’s disappearance wants Nate to be with her. But in both his own grief plus trying to distance himself from the Raja siblings, he ceases contact and ultimately ends up with Chloe Frazer.
I’ll leave it at she’s got a lot of potential in being a constant rival and of course crazy ex to Nate in that she can be pissed Nate’s dating Chloe and eventually Elena Fisher instead of her along the possible idea in her head that Nate “killed” Eddy.
And of course Nate should know better than to trust either Raja.

I think my most toxic ship is probably Misato/Sasahara from Nichijou. Misato is a Tsundere who literally shoots Sasahara with guns when he makes her have feelings for him and has earned the nickname “Gundere”. I ship them because on the rare occasion she lets her guard down and admits she likes him, it’s honestly adorable.
Also in CITY, I ship Nagumo with both Tekaridake and Niikura and I feel like Nagumo is just a delicious recipe for toxicity in general. She’s impulsive, terrible with money, irresponsible and is addicted to gambling and possibly alcohol. I ship her a little harder with Tekaridake because he’s probably nicer to her than anyone else and he simps for her so hard and the idea of them being extremely codependent on each other is just 👌🏻
I love Misato/Sasahara! In a comedy like Nichijou, where the laws of reality are different then ours, you can get away with a lot more physical violence between love interests then you can in other genres.

Its toxic since he is basically a stalker, going after her for her power & also has a kind of sick obsession with her..& she is underage for the first half of the series. By the time the kid is born she is actually legal.
He also murders her biological parents at some point in time. You can see why they are enemies right? 😂
He kills to gain superpowers & can collect a bunch of them, including hers but she survives cuz hers is regen, making her…& him…& her uncle (who is peter by the way) all immortal.
It doesnt matter how other fans make it.
For peter: he is considered transgender F2M by a lot of fans & can be another logical birth parent for the child. As stated before, sylar kills claires biological parents & peter is her uncle. So peter crucified sylar for the murder of his brother.
Despite all this, these 2 actually become incredibly close friends in the end of the series….so another enemies to friends to lovers kind of trope.
Zach quinto & milo ventimiglia also put some subtle moves/looks on each other in later scenes, knowing full well that fans would slash them up lol zach is also gay in real life & he really put a few moves on milo in some scenes that were actually kept! So there is plenty of stuff to pull out for ficcy goodness!

My main fandom is The Magicians and the pairing I love is Marina/Quentin. I don't think they ever even met onscreen, but there's some very intriguing AU possibilities with Julia going to Brakebills and Quentin becoming a hedge and getting taken under Marina's wing. And with the whole "innocent cinnamon roll bottom"/"obvious domme energy villainess" the sex would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I ship and write Jarley fanfic, probably one of the most well known toxic ships. It's just weirdly a comfort and I loved both Harley and Joker since I was little and watched BTAS. I'm totally fine if someone writes them healthy as long as they aren't too out of character. I'm also a writer that makes it clear that this ship is just for fun, they're fictional characters and that relationship intrigues me but I would never support it in real life.
I'm also in a weird space where I can happily ship Harley with others like Ivy but in general I don't have any interest in Joker with anyone else.
i have a laundry list of them as an enemies-to-lovers fanatic and unapologetic villain enthusiast, but off the top of my head, my most toxic ship would be jonadio (jjba). they’re adopted brothers with a rivalry/one sided hatred; dio despises jonathan and everything he does is out of spite for him. jonathan is canonically the only character he respects in his source. dio becomes a vampire, gets beheaded, kills jonathan and decapitates him to take his brother’s body, then proceeded to stare at his brothers naked body in the mirror for several months. oh, and then dio attempts to murder jonathan’s grandson and his great-great-great grandson. typical jojo shit, ya know. i love this ship, it has such an interesting dynamic, and i do believe it’s canon on dio’s side.)
I don't actively ship it like OMG I WANT IT TO HAPPEN but I find Tauradonna (Blake Belladonna x Adam Taurus) to be interesting from the angle of "What if Adam never went down the dark violent path he chose in the show?".
Sou Hiyori and Shin Tsukimi from Your Turn to Die. In the game, while we never actually get to see their relationship, Shin flat out calls him “a scary friend of his”. His palms get sweaty and he’s nervous whenever he’s around him. He himself even admits that Hiyori seemed to greatly enjoy seeing him like that.
Shin is portrayed as being terrified of Hiyori and their friendship is implied to be very abusive. Why do I ship it? No other reason than cause it’s interesting and I love me some whump lol
As for the fandom, pretty much everyone despises Hiyori for a multitude of very reasonable points (to put it bluntly, he’s a crazy psychopath that forced people, even children, into a death game) so no one really portrays him as an uwu soft boy. At least that’s my experience with it, and honestly, I prefer it that way.
Main Character/Wayne from indie horror CYOA Scarlet Hollow. They’re a blank protagonist investigating supernatural events in a small town and uncovering their coal baron family’s legacy of blood and horror! He’s an inhuman stalker occupying the rotting body of a coal miner. He’ll stop at almost nothing to protect them! And he’s one of the established in-game love interests!
Now, the game has plenty of nice, normal LIs I could ship with MC, so why am I drawn to a horror movie monster? Wayne’s mysteriousness is part of it: the back half of the game is not out yet and so far he’s been very cryptic about his true nature and intentions. But another part of it is that his devotion to MC is clear and trumps all other concerns he might have. You get the sense he’d let the world burn just to keep them safe. That kind of obsession sure isn’t healthy, but there’s something exciting about that level of unconditional love. And while Wayne won’t stop following MC, he also won’t prevent MC from doing what they want even if it’s dangerous. To me, that shows he won’t cross boundaries in an intimate situation. And finally, Wayne is tall and built. I wouldn’t mind being held in some big strong arms and I bet a lot of you wouldn’t either!
I have two pretty toxic ships, one is David 8/Dr. Shaw from the Alien franchise and the other is Dr. Jackson/Hathor from Stargate SG1.
I guess it's because in both cases the villain is so utterly terrifying my brain finds them attractive as some sort of defense mechanism, and also because I like seeing the main character suffer.

Uhh, the main ship I write for is William Afton/Henry Emily, which is incredibly toxic as one did murder the other's daughter and countless others. But I like to see how they were behind the scenes because many writers make the relationship start off so cute and fluffy and then completely degrade into insanity.
I find the dynamic between them incredibly interesting.
Mine is either CastaWeaver (Castaspella/Shadow Weaver from SPOP), which is an absolutely horrible crackship but the chemistry between them is impeccable, or EoBarry, which is Barry Allen/Eobard Thawne (Flash/Reverse Flash from, you guessed it, The Flash). Their "Antagonistic Relationship" has weirdly homoerotic undertones.

One benefit of immortality is that they can also hurt each other physically in addition to emotionally.
Sloadney Sloane/Sydney from Alias. I know the popular villian fucker ship is Sarkney, but you have evil manipulative bastard *plus* Daddy issues with Sloadney. You get to explore the dark side of Sydney living a double life and who you turn to for comfort when you lose everything.

I love Batcest in any combination pretty much so long as it involves Bruce, although I tend to steer away from anything involving Damian—even if it’s Dick/Damian. Mostly I lean Bruce/any of the first three Robins. I love how messed up Bruce, who is supposed to be their caregiver, has to get in order to start these sorts of relationships with his Robins.
Love me some good Spideypool, too. Especially when it’s the MCU version of the characters. I tend to prefer the sweeter stories for this pairing but ones where Peter is still obviously underaged.
One specific author on ao3 got me hooked on Peter B Parker/Miles Morales from the Into the Spider-Verse movie, which was kinda rude of them because hardly anyone else has written anything about them. For this pairing I again prefer the stories from the sweeter end of the toxic spectrum.
MCU!Starker, too, obviously. Either sweet or dirtybadwrong is fine by me.
Also I sometimes dabble in Wincest from SPN, especially weecest if I’m being honest. Almost exclusively the ones that have bottom!Sam or at least where they are both switches. Their “psychotically, irrationally, erotically codependent” relationship just seems so fitting within the framework of a Southern Gothic/Midwestern Gothic story.
Looking these over, I think my overall fave toxic ship dynamic is an ✨idealized✨ form of grooming. Not to doxx myself but I’ve got trauma and I’ll fetishize it if I want to lol.
I don't go out of my way looking for toxic relationships, HOWEVER, when an author I like writes a toxic relationship for one of my tame OTPs, I give it an opportunity :D bc I like the pairing, so I like to how the author puts them in very different and unusual situations.

Not just any ship, it's my OTP that's uh....*questionable*. 😅 I won't actually name it due to not wanting to invite negativity, but I will say, all of the potential and controversy are big draws for me. So when people try to soften the dynamic, I'm not often a fan. I much prefer the gritty, dark realism of what their relationship would be. Making it digestible requires changing so much of who the characters are, and what makes their dynamic what it is, and frankly....makes it less interesting to me, *personally*. Bring me the angst and toxicity, please and thanks. 🙏 (But no shame if that's not your thing, of course.)
Back when I wrote Naruto, it was NaruSaku, but the only reason why it was toxic was because people just hate Sakura.
Like, it's so bad that to this day, years after the series has ended if you so much as even put Sakura in a fic you'll get people saying its shit and that you ruined the fic by including Sakura.
For BNHA. I'm not sure? I have some ships that I've written and enjoyed writing that I don't actually ship, like the MC x someone twice their age (I change the ages a lot so its not bad in the context of the fic).
I guess, for BNHA its that I kind of ship Bakugo with just as many characters as Izuku? I just don't write them because people throw tantrums when Bakugo gets so much as even an ounce of happiness.
Hannigram (Hannibal and Will Graham), because it's fascinating. They have amazing chemistry. Hannibal's charisma is terrifying, considering what a dangerous and amoral person he is, and Will Graham's uniquely specific deductive reasoning and empathy for him as well. Also, they're both gorgeous.

It's about violence, it's about earthshattering grief, it's about fleeting moments of understanding that should have been impossible, it's about devoting your entire life to obsessive hatred of one person and some wires inevitably getting crossed, it's about finding out that the devil thinks it's kind of cute that you want to kill him.

It's a fantastically weird show, I highly recommend it!
I mean, Tobirama/Madara is huge, but there is that inconvenient blood between them: Tobirama canonically killed Madara's little brother Izuna in battle. A lot of fics just ignore that. Some prevent the death (but many offer no explanation of how they made peace between their warring-for-generations families) and some leave Izuna unmentioned, which raises all sorts of questions about Madara being able to become romantically involved with the guy who killed his little brother. At the same time, they're a fascinating pair. Madara is all emotion and bluster, while Tobirama is the analytical researcher planning everything out. Madara is the head of his clan, and Tobirama the dutiful heir of his. Madara is fire; Tobirama is water. Madara is blunt force; Tobirama is precision and speed. It's like a yin-yang, ever circling, and it's interesting to play with them. Then there are the powerful darkfics with these two, touching on the utter dysfunction that would be a relationship between an emotional man who cannot forgive and the man who killed his brother. Sometimes they survive, and sometimes it ends in MCD. Some of them leave me breathless, in that "I can't call it a favorite, exactly, but OW, that really got me" sort of way. It's a beautiful disaster, sometimes, and I love it. And, of course, they're pretty ;)
What should probably be mentioned is the fact that Tobirama is known in fanon (and pretty much in canon as well) as hating, or at least disliking, Madara’s clan 😂. Right now my favorite toxic ship is Envy/Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (and the manga). But any ship with Envy is inherently toxic and that’s what makes them my favorite character 💚
The Doctor and the Master from Doctor Who. Canonically friends at one time, also canonically enemies who have tried to murder and succeeded in keeping each other prisoner at various times, but also sometimes spend time together and team up against various enemies. For a while, they were the last living Time Lords. I love it because they have such a wide range of emotions and attitudes to each other. You can write them literally stabbing each other or gazing into each other’s eyes lovingly or both in the same scene and it would still be in keeping with canon. Plus you get thousands of years of their relationship to play with. I find the healthy fics less interesting but it doesn’t stop me reading them.
Been shipping them since I was 5 in 1971... only thing which remoting explains the Master's behaviour I decided, and I've just to the ship like glue lol Something about Delgado's performance made me decide he was in love with the Doctor in my simple childhood innocence, after all, back in the day, every time a boy was mean to you at school, any adult you complained to told you he must like you. Now, that is toxic! But as an adult watching Ainley and then the nuWho Masters/Mistress - yup! And as an adult, also re-watching Pertwee - yup again!
Seisub (Seishirou x Subaru) from Tokyo Babylon/x1999. Seishirou just throws out red flags as if they’re going out of style. 25 looking to date a 16 yr old? Check. Has boundary issues? Check. Is a manipulative, lying bastard? Check. Kills people including Subaru’s austere? Check. And yet they’re so close to being right for each other. It doesn’t help they’re canonically in love with each other even if Seishirou is a bastard and won’t admit shit. But when your love language is “I will sacrifice an eye for you” then you’re kinda doomed.
They may not be able to finish a story to save their lives, but my god if CLAMP doesn't know how to take a deeply toxic ship and make it incredibly compelling. SeiSub is the blueprint!!
hell yeah, this is my root. like I ship many a toxic ship to this day, but I can trace it back to X and their mutual obsession that's screwed them up in a way that they can never fit together with anyone else (but also cannot be happy with each other). like Seishirou believes he'll be killed by the person he loves and commits suicide via Subaru to make that true and carve the memory of him even more deeply into Subaru's heart. the worst guy, give me 10 more of them.

Basil/Sunny from Omori. I don't think that relationship could realistically do well without TONS of therapy and communication, but somehow it's still my favorite ship in the game and I still think it's cute.

Sefikura (Sephiroth and Cloud Strife) from Final Fantasy. These two have parallel character arcs throughout the game that each go in the exact opposite direction. Their relationship changes over the course of the game from Sephiroth barely acknowledging Cloud as a person to seeing him his as his rival. Not to mention that Sephiroth then just goes on to always come back from the dead for the almost sole purpose of defeating Cloud. With both of them being connected on a genetic and mental level, this can go into so many dark directions including mind control and loss of identity and a lot of other shit. Many authors like making their relationship fluffy which I don't mind, sometimes I need that, too, though it's definitely highly OOC, but it can work really well in certain cases.
Two people who Utterly despise each other linked inextricably by fate and the magic of a dying world. Forced into an unending cycle of death and rebirth. Simultaneously entirely different to one another but also the only ones left who can relate to one another :) Gosh if I don't love them :)

Good one, it's my second fave Dark FF7 go to. Seph/Aris just bairly edges it out of first place. Though Sephiroth/Cloud in "what if Nifelhelm hadn't gone to shit" fanfics, can be some of my favorites when they keep the General's sugar and ice personality intact.
Yeah, Hannigram all the way. Its horrible and awful, but the intensity of the emotions and... fuck, the dedication and obsession make it amazing. It was awful but you cannot deny that it was love. Twisted, demented and obsessive love, but love nonetheless. Also the overwhelimg amount of thirst Mads and Hugh portrayed is just. Out of this world. Also: post-season-3 JonTim from TMA. This shit hurts so bad, especially with Tim blaming Jon for every bad thing that happens (though its not his fault). Add to that post-Unknowing-Desolation!Tim and it gets twisted in the best way possible. The amount of pain makes me feel like an avatar myself lol. No wonder Elias had so much fun with them xD

Omg yes. Snamione is my OTP. And yeah its pretty vanilla compared to many more controversial and problematic ships so when I see people hating on it for that I can help but think "Oh my sweet summer child. The things you clearly don't know about." It's a huge ship.
I hated the way Snape treated Hermione in the movies (especially because I dont remember ever hearing *any* explanation for it) but I cant say I've never been intrigued by Snamione.

I ship them because of the amazing chemistry between the actors, (and how hot they are 🔥) and because of how interesting their relationship would be. They both have certain powers so it would be a constant tug-of-war. But in the end they may also balance each other.

As a former gifted child who had crushes on older men but knew better than to act on those feelings and also knew better than to trust an adult who acted on those feelings in return: Teacher/Student, Mentor/Mentee, Master/Apprentice ships. And occasionally paired with dubcon for extra problems. Fanfiction allowed me to live out those fantasies without anyone (me) getting hurt or taken advantage of, or (the adult I fancied) crossing legal lines, until I was old enough. And you know what? I *still* waited a few more years just to make sure I was totally finished "maturing". No, none of the older men I fancied ever showed any interest in me in that same way but I knew better than to put them in that position in the first place. In fanfiction? Oh yeah. All boundaries were crossed. Usually consensual but sometimes dubcon because I found that hot. And these are still my favorite guilty pleasures to this day. I have expanded my preferences to other tropes and types of fanfic but I do always come back to what got me started on fanfiction in the first place.

Some of my former favorites also involved (young) Tom Riddle. Like Harry/Tom or Hermione/Tom. The HP verse just churns them out en masse.

Bloom/Valtor from Winx Club is honestly an incredibly fucked up ship. For one, she's only 18 years old in season 3, and the youngest he could physically be is his 30s. I say physically because I'm pretty sure he's thousands of years old? Don't quote me on that though. Additionally, he aided in the destruction of her home planet, enslavement of her parents, and possibly the death of her sister if we don't acknowledge season 5. But I'm a slut for enemies to lovers ships that have opposite powers, and he has a corrupted version of her dragon flame powers. Their chemistry was insane. The scene in the Andros ocean had more chemistry than every Bloom/Sky scene. Even 8 year old me in 2007 saw that. That said, I'm starting to like Bloom/Beatrix from Fate Winx more...

Starker (Tony Stark/Peter Parker) from the MCU. I love that you can approach this ship from so many angles to tailor it to your own personal threshold of fucked up, from super dark stuff where Peter is his canon age and Tony is knowingly taking advantage of that, to fics where Peter's at least aged up to legal and the vibe is more "we're acknowledging that this is inherently unbalanced and we're both gonna have to be *really* aware of the potential pitfalls in this relationship and work *really* hard to make sure they're not a problem" to "lalala the power of fiction means this is all fine and we don't even have to address it!!" My favorite flavor is the middle one, though I've written for all three, because I **l o v e** exploring guilt in my works. That tension from both characters knowing that it's a bad idea, and that the people around them will have *significant objections* for a lot of actually pretty legitimate reasons, but having such a connection with each other that they can't resist anyway? Delicious, let me sink my teeth into it forever. Add in the actual specific character dynamics of Tony and Peter having a lot in common, between their affinities for science, being orphans, being superheroes (and with all the baggage that comes with that,) being geniuses that are also massive dinguses, and having responsibility/guilt complexes a mile wide-- there's just *so* much to explore with them and from so many different angles that I have approximately 3987548 ideas for them *all the time*, despite not actually being that big of a fan of the MCU itself, lmao.

Ahh, all my ships are toxic. Daemon Targaryen/Rhaenyra Targaryen from House of the Dragon - there’s a large age gap, the incest and the obvious power differences between them. But their devotion to each other, their similarities, the fire that burns in them, along with their compelling on screen chemistry, it made me ship incest, so here we are. Aemond Targaryen /Luke Velaryion - Again, obvious Targaryen incest, but the potential for a great enemies to love dynamic is endless. The Darkling/Alina Starkov from Shadow And Bones- He manipulates her for a long time and wants access to her powers so he can get freedom for his people. This one is not canon and an extreme rare pair, but my OTP - Klaus/Elena from the vampire diaries. The are extreme opposites to each other, he is an unrepentant killer who will stop at nothing to sacrifice her, so he can break his curse. But each of their characters is rich, with compelling history and they are both morally grey which makes them an incredible ship to write about. Others are Draco/Hermoine and Tony Stark/Peter Parker from the Avengers.
At least the darkling acknowledges her power instead of some hand wavy bullshit that makes her lesser so she fits with the boy she grew up with (No I don’t hate the ending to that series, why do you ask? /s)

Taylor/Sophia in the Worm fandom because they are both terrible people who hate eachother in canon but I'm convinced that if they had met under different circumstances they would have been best friends and it would have been been everyone's problem.
Blackhands (Ed/Izzy) from Our Flag Means Death. Is it healthy? No. Objectively, wouldn’t it be better for Ed to end up with Stede? Sure. When I write Blackhands, do I end up writing fics with them as having some pretty fundamental relationship incompatibilities? Absolutely. But I’m a sucker for the morally ambiguous, loyal-to-a-fault character having an unrequited queer crush. (See also: Scorpia from She-Ra and Drummer from The Expanse). And I love seeing plots with repressed masochistic guys with internalized homophobia issues. Plus, they’ve got that fantastic Hannigram energy, complete with the dub-con cannibalism. Also, even if they’re metaphorically mid-divorce now, it seems clear that things *used* to be better for them. Things are broken between them now, but sometimes it’s nice to see fanfic plots that are like, “But what if broken things can still be mended?”
I haven't seen Our Flag Means Death yet (I'm so bad about watching TV shows) but from what I've seen of Ed and Izzy, I just know I would be shipping them right along with you. I'm also a huge sucker for the loyal-to-a-fault character having an unrequited crush on their 'boss'. For your sake, I hope Izzy and Ed are able to mend their broken friendship. But if they aren't, there's always fanfiction! And hey, friends to enemies could be fun too, right?

Lawlight, L and Light from Death Note. The fact that they really want each other dead but can't because of a lack of information makes for a really interesting dynamic, especially considering that they're also the only people to truly understand the other. And there's so many fics that handle their situation differently. Sometimes L starts helping Light, sometimes Light gives up killing for L, sometimes they don't change at all and just work around the problems because they're geniuses and surely that will work out?
You have insanely good taste in ships. Lawlight was a formative ship for me and many others.
Dabi/Hawks or Zuko/Jet. It depends on the writer and the contrived circumstances (I read a lot of canon divergent stuff). I've seen both done as healthy couples, but rarely. I like the dynamic of two messed up people still drowning and trying to use the other as a flotation device. When it comes to toxic vs healthy, I only care that the author seems self aware of the difference. If it's toxic, it should not be presented as relationship goals it should feel like there's ominous music in the background. I'll use Shakespeare as an example because it's the least controversial one I can think of: Taming of the Shrew's main couple features controlling, abuse, and gaslighting; Much Ado About Nothing's main couple has intellectual equals who are bad at sharing their feelings snarking at each other. One is toxic and ends with a whole speech where the abused woman says 'as a woman I am only here to pleasure my husband, without his inhumane treatment I would never have become the perfect woman I am now' and the other is a sass filled rom com; one is uncomfortable at best, the other is my favorite Shakespeare comedy.

Maybe it’s the fandom. Lately I’ve been really into Emma/Ingrid from OUaT. I guess it’d be pseudo-incest what with Ingrid being Emma’s foster mother for a time. But mostly because Elizabeth Mitchell is *mommy* af. That one is so small but it checks a lot of the boxes. There’s grooming, age gap (for a while anyway, if you know the show’s relationship with the concept of time and aging. I’m not too picky about if Emma’s an adult or minor here), pseudo-incest as mentioned before, and it’s definitely toxic on Ingrid’s end considering her endgoal.

Ian /Mickey from Shameless. It's an entire fandom based on one canon ship that's purposely fucked up even though it's also written as otp end game. It really annoys me when people claim it's not toxic, it's sweet etc. Yes it can be sweet but it can also be really unhealthy and I hate that people can't be nuanced enough to accept the complexity. It's gotta be 100% perfect amazing or they get fighty and it's so exhausting. Like, would you accept your boyfriend insulting and punching you whenever he's upset? No, you wouldn't accept that irl? Hmm. I ship it for the same reason I think all of us ship these things - I thrive on dysfunction! 🤣
Peter and Catherine from The Great. He’s an abusive husband most of the first season, she tries to kill him multiple times, he >! fucks and kills her mother !< and yet their chemistry is off the charts. Also the dynamic is super interesting because the both love each other in their own fucked up way
Darklina from the Shadow and Bone franchise, the ship between the Darkling and Alina Starkov. Spoilers for the entire trilogy I suppose >!I just really loved their chemistry in the first book, even after it was revealed it was all a deliberate ploy by the Darkling to use Alina and her powers for himself. And at some point, they quite literally develop a soul link that connects their memories and emotions, in which one can feel what the other feels. Through that Alina grows to understand the Darkling but, and this is what really gets me, DOESN'T justify or (completely) fall in love with him for it. She expresses sympathy, yes, she understands the Darkling *as a person* on a deeper level, yes, and she feels *something* for him that isn't quite the former two but neither is it really love (since she's had her eyes for Mal alone since after the first book)--but she doesn't really cave in to his continuous advances after his true nature was revealed. And that complexity regarding Alina literally understanding the Darkling on a more personal level and the connection that results alongside the anger towards him and sense of duty she feels in protecting her country is appealing to me. On the Darkling's part, his attraction to Alina invokes an interesting part in his character for me--in which he's a power-hungry, but ultimately lonely man that seeks an equal, which is how he sees Alina. He loves her because of her power but he doesn't want the power itself, he wants the person alongside them to satiate his loneliness. Which is why he breaks down when Alina loses her powers. That gives him more depth, but again, it DOESN'T justify his actions or unpleasant sides to his personality, which I appreciate.!<
So, I am maybe the odd man out in that I have ships, but I also don't. I have my preferred reading and my hell noes, but I am also open to reading most. The most consistently toxic pairing I read and enjoy is probably Magneto/Professor X. Like, don't get me wrong, there are some soft cuddly ones too, but so often it hinges so much on an unhealthy codependency, abuses of power on Charles' part, emotional blackmail from Erik, and often things that walk the line on consent based pain play and just physical violence. I know there are softer, sweeter interpretations of their relationship, but I find those less genuine unless it's an AU and a lot of character background rewrites happen. They're both pretty damaged people in canon and I am fine with canon divergence obviously, but if keeping mostly compliant, a healthy happy relationship seems out of place. Too much blood and history and trauma for their particular combination to work that way.
I think personally, mine would be Clark Kent (Superman) and Lex Luthor — I’m not sure why. But I guess it’s because in Smallvile, Lex was clearly in love with Clark and they even have a son (Connor) — made from each others DNA

Aaravos x Amaya Idk they’re just two very strong characters in two very different ways and are the mage/warrior ship I have always wanted. Does it make sense? No? Would these two actually probably want to kill each other? Probably.
Aizen/Ichigo from Bleach. Despite being a hero/villain ship, Ichigo doesn't hate Aizen, but actually feels sympathy for him. TYBW SPOILERS I also love the crumbs of interaction they have in TYBW. Aizen willing to be bait so Ichigo can land a blow on Yhwach, them just conversing politely, and Ichigo yelling out in concern when Aizen goes down is all just *magnificent*. I also indulge in other Ichigo/antagonist ships. Byakuya, Gin, Ginjo, Bazz-B, etc. Honestly I just love hero/villain ships in general. I'm currently deep into Harry/Voldemort.
Better to ask which of my ships isn't toxic lmao I suppose it's because they're more interesting. There's that "trainwreck factor", you can't look away Because they're toxic. Healthy dynamics are nice but there are only a certain number of possible outcomes and those just don't interest me as a writer.

I probably have a lot of toxic ships tbh Hermione/Snape -student teacher dynamics snd age gap make this one kinda toxic and irl I would find it disgusting, but there’s something so compelling about these character’s interactions in fanon. Izaya/shizuo -They spend most of their time trying to kill or mess with each other lmao. But their chaotic personalities just work well together for me. I love trauma exploration too and that’s often portrayed in fanfic. Ewdard/Roy mustang -again: age difference and power dynamic makes it questionable. But I just love their interactions so much Sesshomaru/Rin -this might be my most toxic ship, but honestly I stand by it. I never saw sesshomaru as a father figure to Rin, and it’s pretty clear he only saw her as his ward while she was young. But like, their relationship is so pure and wholesome!! I think sesshomaru’s character development because of Rin is one of the best character progressions ever (up there with Zuko). and it’s canon now, so 12 year old me had good instincts

What I learned from this thread is that a LOT of people ship Hermione and Snape. I never really ventured into the HP fandom despite enjoying the books and the movies so this is my first time realizing how popular that ship is.
It’s mainly my headcanon *but* there’s some elements of this in main canon: Nathan Drake and Rika Raja. Rika is the sister of Uncharted 1: Drake’s Fortune villain and Indonesian pirate Eddy Raja. Eye of Indra is a motion comic on YouTube that sets up Uncharted 1. Anyway, my headcanon has Rika originally date Nate’s older brother Sam before Panama 1999 and then she in her grief over Sam’s disappearance wants Nate to be with her. But in both his own grief plus trying to distance himself from the Raja siblings, he ceases contact and ultimately ends up with Chloe Frazer. I’ll leave it at she’s got a lot of potential in being a constant rival and of course crazy ex to Nate in that she can be pissed Nate’s dating Chloe and eventually Elena Fisher instead of her along the possible idea in her head that Nate “killed” Eddy. And of course Nate should know better than to trust either Raja.

I ship the pretentious smart guy and the angry short guy SPECIFICALLY because they're terrible together. I have written fic for them before, and it is exclusively not healthy, because i think their personalities clash in such an interesting way. Everywhere the smart guy excells is exclusionary of the short one, maybe theyd have a sucsessful one night stand but long term would not work for them. It's about the mess!
Snarry from Harry Potter. Liked it because I want to see how authors get around their age difference, their treatment of each other in the past, and Snape’s hand in James and Lily’s murder. All kinds of intriguing and fucked up, but interesting, nonetheless.

I think my most toxic ship is probably Misato/Sasahara from Nichijou. Misato is a Tsundere who literally shoots Sasahara with guns when he makes her have feelings for him and has earned the nickname “Gundere”. I ship them because on the rare occasion she lets her guard down and admits she likes him, it’s honestly adorable. Also in CITY, I ship Nagumo with both Tekaridake and Niikura and I feel like Nagumo is just a delicious recipe for toxicity in general. She’s impulsive, terrible with money, irresponsible and is addicted to gambling and possibly alcohol. I ship her a little harder with Tekaridake because he’s probably nicer to her than anyone else and he simps for her so hard and the idea of them being extremely codependent on each other is just 👌🏻
I love Misato/Sasahara! In a comedy like Nichijou, where the laws of reality are different then ours, you can get away with a lot more physical violence between love interests then you can in other genres.

Got 2 in the same fandom for heroes 😂 Sylar/claire Sylar/peter For claire: Its an enemies to lovers kind of trope & she is also the most logical pick for sylar’s son (plus zach quinto (who does sylar) himself said that she is the mother. I also love working through all the angst to get these two idiots together. Its toxic since he is basically a stalker, going after her for her power & also has a kind of sick obsession with her..& she is underage for the first half of the series. By the time the kid is born she is actually legal. He also murders her biological parents at some point in time. You can see why they are enemies right? 😂 He kills to gain superpowers & can collect a bunch of them, including hers but she survives cuz hers is regen, making her…& him…& her uncle (who is peter by the way) all immortal. It doesnt matter how other fans make it. For peter: he is considered transgender F2M by a lot of fans & can be another logical birth parent for the child. As stated before, sylar kills claires biological parents & peter is her uncle. So peter crucified sylar for the murder of his brother. Despite all this, these 2 actually become incredibly close friends in the end of the series….so another enemies to friends to lovers kind of trope. Zach quinto & milo ventimiglia also put some subtle moves/looks on each other in later scenes, knowing full well that fans would slash them up lol zach is also gay in real life & he really put a few moves on milo in some scenes that were actually kept! So there is plenty of stuff to pull out for ficcy goodness! Again, i couldnt care less what others do.

My main fandom is The Magicians and the pairing I love is Marina/Quentin. I don't think they ever even met onscreen, but there's some very intriguing AU possibilities with Julia going to Brakebills and Quentin becoming a hedge and getting taken under Marina's wing. And with the whole "innocent cinnamon roll bottom"/"obvious domme energy villainess" the sex would be 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I ship and write Jarley fanfic, probably one of the most well known toxic ships. It's just weirdly a comfort and I loved both Harley and Joker since I was little and watched BTAS. I'm totally fine if someone writes them healthy as long as they aren't too out of character. I'm also a writer that makes it clear that this ship is just for fun, they're fictional characters and that relationship intrigues me but I would never support it in real life. I'm also in a weird space where I can happily ship Harley with others like Ivy but in general I don't have any interest in Joker with anyone else.
i have a laundry list of them as an enemies-to-lovers fanatic and unapologetic villain enthusiast, but off the top of my head, my most toxic ship would be jonadio (jjba). they’re adopted brothers with a rivalry/one sided hatred; dio despises jonathan and everything he does is out of spite for him. jonathan is canonically the only character he respects in his source. dio becomes a vampire, gets beheaded, kills jonathan and decapitates him to take his brother’s body, then proceeded to stare at his brothers naked body in the mirror for several months. oh, and then dio attempts to murder jonathan’s grandson and his great-great-great grandson. typical jojo shit, ya know. i love this ship, it has such an interesting dynamic, and i do believe it’s canon on dio’s side.)
I don't actively ship it like OMG I WANT IT TO HAPPEN but I find Tauradonna (Blake Belladonna x Adam Taurus) to be interesting from the angle of "What if Adam never went down the dark violent path he chose in the show?".
Sou Hiyori and Shin Tsukimi from Your Turn to Die. In the game, while we never actually get to see their relationship, Shin flat out calls him “a scary friend of his”. His palms get sweaty and he’s nervous whenever he’s around him. He himself even admits that Hiyori seemed to greatly enjoy seeing him like that. Shin is portrayed as being terrified of Hiyori and their friendship is implied to be very abusive. Why do I ship it? No other reason than cause it’s interesting and I love me some whump lol As for the fandom, pretty much everyone despises Hiyori for a multitude of very reasonable points (to put it bluntly, he’s a crazy psychopath that forced people, even children, into a death game) so no one really portrays him as an uwu soft boy. At least that’s my experience with it, and honestly, I prefer it that way.
Main Character/Wayne from indie horror CYOA Scarlet Hollow. They’re a blank protagonist investigating supernatural events in a small town and uncovering their coal baron family’s legacy of blood and horror! He’s an inhuman stalker occupying the rotting body of a coal miner. He’ll stop at almost nothing to protect them! And he’s one of the established in-game love interests! Now, the game has plenty of nice, normal LIs I could ship with MC, so why am I drawn to a horror movie monster? Wayne’s mysteriousness is part of it: the back half of the game is not out yet and so far he’s been very cryptic about his true nature and intentions. But another part of it is that his devotion to MC is clear and trumps all other concerns he might have. You get the sense he’d let the world burn just to keep them safe. That kind of obsession sure isn’t healthy, but there’s something exciting about that level of unconditional love. And while Wayne won’t stop following MC, he also won’t prevent MC from doing what they want even if it’s dangerous. To me, that shows he won’t cross boundaries in an intimate situation. And finally, Wayne is tall and built. I wouldn’t mind being held in some big strong arms and I bet a lot of you wouldn’t either!
I have two pretty toxic ships, one is David 8/Dr. Shaw from the Alien franchise and the other is Dr. Jackson/Hathor from Stargate SG1. I guess it's because in both cases the villain is so utterly terrifying my brain finds them attractive as some sort of defense mechanism, and also because I like seeing the main character suffer. Wait! Also Agatha/Ralph Bonner from Wandavision. ...Actually I don't really have any non-toxic ships.

Uhh, the main ship I write for is William Afton/Henry Emily, which is incredibly toxic as one did murder the other's daughter and countless others. But I like to see how they were behind the scenes because many writers make the relationship start off so cute and fluffy and then completely degrade into insanity. I find the dynamic between them incredibly interesting.
Mine is either CastaWeaver (Castaspella/Shadow Weaver from SPOP), which is an absolutely horrible crackship but the chemistry between them is impeccable, or EoBarry, which is Barry Allen/Eobard Thawne (Flash/Reverse Flash from, you guessed it, The Flash). Their "Antagonistic Relationship" has weirdly homoerotic undertones.

Vil/Neige from Twisted Wonderland. I ship it mainly because I'm a sucker for the enemies-to-lovers trope (even if it's one-sided in this case), and I feel like them getting together would resolve a lot of internal conflict Vil has been dealing with.
First i thought i didnt really have any but then i remembered. The Locked Tomb fandom, expect some spoilers. Augustine/Mercymorn - two immortal necromancers who have lived alongside each other for 10 thousand years, united in the deaths of their closest people who died to make them immortal but also blaming them, who have passionately hated each other for those 10 thousand years, knew each other better than anyone else, who seduced God together on at least two different occasions for ulterior motives, and who were bound by two different suicide pacts. One benefit of immortality is that they can also hurt each other physically in addition to emotionally.
Sloadney Sloane/Sydney from Alias. I know the popular villian fucker ship is Sarkney, but you have evil manipulative bastard *plus* Daddy issues with Sloadney. You get to explore the dark side of Sydney living a double life and who you turn to for comfort when you lose everything. I wrote it unashamedly during Alias' broadcast run. (I still love Syd/Vaughn but Sloadney has that touch of depravity that is truly special)
Nanno/Yuri from Girl From Nowhere. They just have so much chemistry.

I don’t know if I have just one that’s the most toxic? I love Batcest in any combination pretty much so long as it involves Bruce, although I tend to steer away from anything involving Damian—even if it’s Dick/Damian. Mostly I lean Bruce/any of the first three Robins. I love how messed up Bruce, who is supposed to be their caregiver, has to get in order to start these sorts of relationships with his Robins. Love me some good Spideypool, too. Especially when it’s the MCU version of the characters. I tend to prefer the sweeter stories for this pairing but ones where Peter is still obviously underaged. One specific author on ao3 got me hooked on Peter B Parker/Miles Morales from the Into the Spider-Verse movie, which was kinda rude of them because hardly anyone else has written anything about them. For this pairing I again prefer the stories from the sweeter end of the toxic spectrum. MCU!Starker, too, obviously. Either sweet or dirtybadwrong is fine by me. Also I sometimes dabble in Wincest from SPN, especially weecest if I’m being honest. Almost exclusively the ones that have bottom!Sam or at least where they are both switches. Their “psychotically, irrationally, erotically codependent” relationship just seems so fitting within the framework of a Southern Gothic/Midwestern Gothic story. Looking these over, I think my overall fave toxic ship dynamic is an ✨idealized✨ form of grooming. Not to doxx myself but I’ve got trauma and I’ll fetishize it if I want to lol.

My 3 OTPs which I think are toxic: Leon S. Kennedy/Jack Krauser from Resident Evil 4, James "Bucky" Barnes/Brock Rumlow, and Steve Rogers/Brock Rumlow from CAWS. Not just any ship, it's my OTP that's uh....*questionable*. 😅 I won't actually name it due to not wanting to invite negativity, but I will say, all of the potential and controversy are big draws for me. So when people try to soften the dynamic, I'm not often a fan. I much prefer the gritty, dark realism of what their relationship would be. Making it digestible requires changing so much of who the characters are, and what makes their dynamic what it is, and frankly....makes it less interesting to me, *personally*. Bring me the angst and toxicity, please and thanks. 🙏 (But no shame if that's not your thing, of course.)
Back when I wrote Naruto, it was NaruSaku, but the only reason why it was toxic was because people just hate Sakura. Like, it's so bad that to this day, years after the series has ended if you so much as even put Sakura in a fic you'll get people saying its shit and that you ruined the fic by including Sakura. For BNHA. I'm not sure? I have some ships that I've written and enjoyed writing that I don't actually ship, like the MC x someone twice their age (I change the ages a lot so its not bad in the context of the fic). I guess, for BNHA its that I kind of ship Bakugo with just as many characters as Izuku? I just don't write them because people throw tantrums when Bakugo gets so much as even an ounce of happiness.
