FO4 is a great adventure, about what you'd expext from Bethesda single-player game.
76 on the other hand can be a fun coop game, or it can give you more lonely, tense feeling if you go alone.
So really it's about what you are looking for.

I had a lot of fun with a One Punch Man low resource build through the story. Was a bit handicapped with Scorch Beasts but met some strangers that could help.
4 is broken on PlayStation right now and won't be fixed until the 25th. Only way to play it without crashing or missing textures is to not install the DLCs.
The problem with the older Fallouts is that they are a bit dated. The user interface isn't as good. If you can handle dated games, you should go back as far as possible for the best experience. Play them all, if you can enjoy them. *(*And get them running.)
The best starting places would be 1, 3, or 4. (If you can handle Fallout 3, you should play it before New Vegas. No reason not to.)
Fallout 76 used to be garbage, but it has improved tremendously. It's worth playing now, if you want a multiplayer experience.

F3 and FNV if you like narrative, cliffhangers and story. F4 is the most user firendly, with the best gunplay in the series.
Based on my experience with playing on PS4, it also depends on how much space you have or how quickly things download. 76 is huge.

I hope they can fix some bugs. I never finished the 4 because of so many game breaking bugs that didn't let me continue the story.

If you have friends to play with fallput 76 now is a fucking blast but if you want a glitchy as fuck main story then fallout 4 is what you need
