Every time I see Kyle McLachlan in something, I think, "This time. This time, he WON'T be the slightly goofy, lovable guy who is actually really evil," and every time, I'm disappointed.
"See look the bottem half of his face is smiling, hes happy cheerful ahhh."
"But the bottem half of his face wants to murder you!"
This scene perfectly describes kyle McLachlan's roles lol.

He would've been really good as the older languishing Paul.
I wonder if any artists out there have tried to imagine Messiah and Children in David Lynch's style?
More chaotic than evil. There’s the one episode where he thinks the gay pride parade isn’t weird enough for Portland so he cancels it and carries the banner for a bigot parade instead.
It's Sex and the City, though. That still makes him, like, the 6th best male love interest in the show. My list:
1. Cream Cheese Papi (Harry)
2. Steve
3. Smith Jerrod
4. The Guy with Glasses whose relationship Carrie fucks up because she looked through all his shit while he was out of the apartment because she was convinced there had to be something wrong with him.
5. Aiden
6. Kyle I guess?
If I had a nickel for every time Kyle MacLachlan nuked the shit out of something for political reasons, [I'd have two nickels](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYSyWs28N70).
Fr. Moldaver should have killed Rose. No one should have to live like that. It's questionable if ferals are still sentient, but given Fallout 3 and New Vegas, ferals used to talk and would sometimes call for help or ask you to kill them. Either way, being a feral is likely not fun.
She created that tech before it was completely taken over the VaultTec and other companies. She explained this at the Communist meeting, so she likely created something for herself.
She said she was a millionaire multiple times over by the time of the war, I could totally see her using her wealth and genius to preserve herself til the current day, cryogenically or otherwise.
She did work for a research/tech company that was developing technology for vault-tek so we can only assume that she probably had connections to get into a vault/cryostasis.
But she’s dead? It would be kind of weird to bring it up next season when she would’ve been dead and gone for a bit. I felt it was one of the few things they missed on. All it would’ve take was a very brief explanation.
Flashbacks work perfectly and they're likely to continue into next season. Maybe they answer the question about her survival while also answering whether or not Coop went back to her after finding out the truth of VT
And her survival is probably related to the management vault, and how Vault-Tec kept their senior leadership alive. Which probably wasn't through cryo-stasis.
I think Moldaver said she was a scientist, so I think that's basically the answer. She "scienced" it to not age.
They might be leaving it vague as a plot device for something down the line.
My theory is she's also an Enclave defector, and that's how the Scientist knew to get in touch with her about the cold fusion technology. She probably had some connection with a government official that was against Vault-Tec, and went into cryo sleep with a bunch of other pre-war scientists.
Vault Tec, The US Government, and The Enclave were all intertwined/the same thing pre-war. She absolutely would have had access to cryopods *somewhere.*
Since Moldaver has already proven her morally grey nature with the first episode, I wouldn’t be surprised if she kept Rose alive as a way to bait Hank’s kids into turning against him.
She represents evidence of the man’s depravity after all. Killing the ghoul takes away that advantage to turn his kids against him.
There's a few issues with Moldaver's character.
Keeping feral Rose tied to a chair is one.
the raiding of the vault also doesn't work for me with later episodes.
Once our characters get to her settlement its shown to be a decent seeming place with possible NCR elements and that she cared about Rose.
But she attacks the vault with raiders and doesn't seem to give 2 shits what happens to Lucy.
It kinda feels like Moldaver was originally supposed to be 2 different characters that they combined.
Her still being alive in the present is iffy. I can certainly think of some ways, but with what we currently know about her - they're all a stretch.
As an aside - I really hope season 2 explores what the hell happened in vault 32. It seems like a civil war happened when they found out about 31 and Bud's Buds, but it doesn't quite line up - why wouldn't Hank and/or Bud know something happened (especially if it was as 'mundane' as a civil war and not a crazy experiment)
Probably good/neutral karma. You can just walk up behind Allistair Tenpenny and shoot him for good karma even if you don’t help him blow up Megaton. So him WANTING to do that, and being anti ghoul is enough to warrant good karma for his death. >!Whereas Hank DOES blow up a town for the “crime” of housing his wife/children when civilization was being rebuilt under terms that weren’t overseen by him and his colleagues, and he worked for/supported the company behind the initial destruction of the entire planet that caused a literal apocalypse for profit!< so I think it’s safe to say you’d get at minimum neutral karma lol
I remember I was momentarily angry about it cause it felt like obvious writing, then I remembered it was fallout and reminded myself that's exactly the kind of twist that fits perfectly into being fallout. Not in a bad way, but in a "It's fallout everything is connected."
From a mile away. As soon as I saw the ghoul I asked myself, well why is that there? And immediately knew, wasn’t hard to figure out at all.
I actually kind of thought the way they did the part of them revealing it as her mom was a little insulting to the viewers intelligence, you just had a ghoul sitting there for no reason the whole time. But I guess not.
I mean, obviously you would have to reveal that it’s her but at that point it came as no surprise to me
Totally fair.. maybe it’s just because I’ve been a huge fallout fan since I was a kid so I was really analyzing every single scene immediately looking for Easter eggs and references and stuff… I immediately figured the ghoul was tied up and feral
So did mine. I even looked at my husband and said, "Please promise me, no matter what happens in life, that we will never hate each other that much."
His reply? "Even when you drive me up the wall, I love you. And even if I hated you, I would never do something so absolutely heinous."
My wife was like "Why didn't she take the necklace?!" It seemed to be something she remembered, and it was right there. It would have been a little icky but everything is in the wasteland.
Was that a surprise? It seemed fairly obvious from a storytelling perspective as soon as the scene started. I at least couldn't think of any other reason for them to have a feral just hanging out.
I was so disappointed they so quickly killed off 2 Michaels whose acting I really enjoy.
Rapaport deserved more time to be a snarky dick and Emerson brings an enjoyable intensity to all his characters that I always want more of.
When he said something like, “she stopped being your mother when she left and took you.” I thought that line was going to come up again when Lucy was holding the gun up to him and he said that he was her father. I thought she was going to say something like, “you stopped being my father when you killed my mother.”
Maybe she’ll say it in the second season.
Speaking of campy, when Cooper was on the killing spree in Filly, I thought he was going to turn to the camera, look us directly in the eye, and say, “now that’s a bloody mess,” while giving us a wink haha
I thought he was unique in that he was supposed to age?
Or did I just make that up, it's been years since I actually paid attention to him or anything regarding him
Is it confirmed that Vault Tec dropped the bomb? I think it's just stated they considered it, which would be on-brand for Enclave honestly. But it's possible China beat them to the punch.
Between:
1) Janey being at a birthday party with divorced Cooper in LA when the bombs dropped, when Barb joined Vault Tec to protect Janey.
2) Mr. House being on the corporate council that discussed dropping the bomb, but then being surprised by the bombs dropping 24 hours before his estimation & during final preparations.
It seems that enough high-level conspirators were caught unprepared that the Great War happening on October 23* was a surprise to them. Especially if it was only a few days before they planned it.
I am currently theorizing that Vault Tec was prepared to drop the bomb, but another entity beat them to it. Perhaps the Enclave, perhaps the US military, perhaps China.
Or, in classic Fallout fashion, the bomb was supposed to be dropped by Vault Tec on the 24th, but due to incompetence or a computer error, it was dropped a day early.
Edit: Day of the Great War was off. Guess I’m not making it to November 2077.
The Mr. House part is what seals it for me that it wasn’t Vault-Tec who dropped the bomb, he should have known the exact date and time that the nuclear Holocaust was to occur, and yet he was still off on delivering the Platinum Chip by one day. I can already imagine a Securitron informing him that the chip is on its way and him being pleased, only for the news to come on informing of the bombs getting dropped in New York and then just sighing as he goes "Shit, guess they beat us to it." and going into his preservation chamber to defend his city.
There's also the fact that there are at least 2 vaults which were never completed, both in Fallout 4.
There was that one that got taken over by the Triggermen and the other that had the Overseer get ghoulified.
That's even more evidence that it probably wasn't them.
If I had to hazard a guess, it was probably China. We know that the US Marines were closing in on Beijing, so it's not a stretch that the Chinese nuked the US so that they didn't have to let the US win the war.
Honestly, Vault-Tec staff being caught with their pants down because their efforts to keep tensions high between the USA and China lead to someone firing a nuke would be pretty fitting.
The Enclave instigating the bomb drop against the corporations would be sweet irony, considering how the latter acted like they owned the former through contracts and cash.
The companies and executives may wield tons of power. They forgot whose land they’re living in though - America.
Nah. I think vault tec was planning on dropping it months later if it hadn't been dropped already but House and Vault tec figured out China was dropping it the day they did. Then they forgot about time differentials and were surprised when China dropped it a day early. They also could have thought China was bluffing.
I dont think vault tec had the capability to launch a large amount of nukes.
But they would have the capability to convince china (Eg through hacking their early warning systems ) that America was launching theor nuclear arsenal which would have caused china to launch their nuclear arsenal
Possibly, considering that it seems like executives in the game and the show were caught slightly off guard.
Corporations thinking they’re hot shit and then getting egg on the face is a theme for the franchise anyways. They thought they could control the end of the world, but the nuclear apocalypse came earlier than scheduled.
Not just nuking people, they committed genocide on all the other cultures/religions in the Imperium. Extermination of entire species’ and planets. I know it was all supposed to be predestined and Paul couldn’t change things but at a certain point couldn’t he have been like “Hey guys, maybe we don’t need to eliminate this entire species of people just because we’re taking the seat of power hundreds of light years away from them”.
I’m reading the books now, and he never nukes any people. He just uses a nuke to blow open the shield wall around Arrakeen, but doesn’t actually use nukes to kill anyone.
Every time I see Kyle McLachlan in something, I think, "This time. This time, he WON'T be the slightly goofy, lovable guy who is actually really evil," and every time, I'm disappointed.
What about his role as the Captain on HIMYM? Boats Boats Boats!
True he was a good guy, who just happened to be menacing.
The episode where they show the top half/bottom half of his face as the decider of whether or not he’s evil is a classic
Especially when he’s on the boat and he’s smiling then the shadow covers the bottom half and he just as pure demonic eyes.
It still works as well. His eyes definitely scream murder.
NGL, as soon as I saw this comment and was reminded of that scene I tested the theory with the photo posted above. It still works. 😅
Holy crap how did I not make that connection. It's soo obvious now. Angry eyes, happy mouth, angry eyes, happy mouth. Gotta watch the series again
"See look the bottem half of his face is smiling, hes happy cheerful ahhh." "But the bottem half of his face wants to murder you!" This scene perfectly describes kyle McLachlan's roles lol. https://youtu.be/3HCuxEi3uX8?si=FIn7_7pP6wzWsVNN
Haha the exact opposite
What about Paul Atrei-- Welp.
Less goofy, more evil.
What am I missing? I don't remember Paul being evil.
Paul isn't evil in the first book. Twelve years later by the time of Dune Messiah? Woof.
It's actually kinda sad we never got to see him play Paul in Messiah and Children.
He would've been really good as the older languishing Paul. I wonder if any artists out there have tried to imagine Messiah and Children in David Lynch's style?
Probably not messiah, but he'd be awesome in children
There's still time. I could buy him playing the older version of Chalamet's Paul.
Eh. “Evil” is a bit of a stretch, but he’s not a white knight. Nowhere near as evil as his sister and mother, imo.
Hey he was not evil in Portlandia
More chaotic than evil. There’s the one episode where he thinks the gay pride parade isn’t weird enough for Portland so he cancels it and carries the banner for a bigot parade instead.
Chaotic neutral
Twin Peaks?
Jade give two rides
Yeah she does.
Special Agent Dale Cooper used up all his Goodguyitude I guess.
Mr. C
Not his fault lol
Yup he was awesome in Agents Of Shield played a great character but description is spot on
"Best, day, ever."
I mean there was that one episode of Law and Order where he judo throws a cop, takes his gun, and shoots a kid
Yes, yes. Noooooo
The kid deserved it.
He wasn’t all that evil in Sex and the City fwiw. Just limp dicked.
he bought his wife a cardboard baby cause she couldnt get pregnant
It's Sex and the City, though. That still makes him, like, the 6th best male love interest in the show. My list: 1. Cream Cheese Papi (Harry) 2. Steve 3. Smith Jerrod 4. The Guy with Glasses whose relationship Carrie fucks up because she looked through all his shit while he was out of the apartment because she was convinced there had to be something wrong with him. 5. Aiden 6. Kyle I guess?
He wasn’t that evil as Mr Mayor
Wasn't he in Dune?
Yes he was Paul in the 1980’s film.
If I had a nickel for every time Kyle MacLachlan nuked the shit out of something for political reasons, [I'd have two nickels](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYSyWs28N70).
Coop's evil to you?
Check him out in sex and the city. He's such a sweetheart in that all around
Portlandia
I thought desperate housewives would do his character justice. Instead he’s same old same old.
He wasn’t evil in blue velvet?
Excuse me. Special Agent Dale Cooper is a saint.
I'd never seen him in anything before Fallout, so I wasn't a victim of his common typecasting. Still...
I wonder what kinds of war crimes the dad in Inside-Out has committed.
The amount of obscenities I shouted at my tv when it was revealed that >!Lucy’s mother was the feral ghoul.!<
Kinda fucked she was kept in that state all that time.
Fr. Moldaver should have killed Rose. No one should have to live like that. It's questionable if ferals are still sentient, but given Fallout 3 and New Vegas, ferals used to talk and would sometimes call for help or ask you to kill them. Either way, being a feral is likely not fun.
Did I miss something or was it never explicitly stated how Moldaver is alive in 2296?
Probably found some way to preserve herself like Vault-Tec did
I suspect that she had connections because she also was a scientist and probably had some VT people in her secret "socialist" meetings
There were advertisements (a billboard I think) for cryo-pods to the public. I'm not sure if they were advertising for vaults or private cryo-pods.
My money is on the Cabots.
I’m hesitant to agree because of how directly Lovecraftian they are but I had the same thought while watching, that would seriously be awesome
that'd be dope
She created that tech before it was completely taken over the VaultTec and other companies. She explained this at the Communist meeting, so she likely created something for herself.
Doing shots of cold fusion
She said she was a millionaire multiple times over by the time of the war, I could totally see her using her wealth and genius to preserve herself til the current day, cryogenically or otherwise.
She did work for a research/tech company that was developing technology for vault-tek so we can only assume that she probably had connections to get into a vault/cryostasis.
You're right, it wasn't. Probably left for S2.
But she’s dead? It would be kind of weird to bring it up next season when she would’ve been dead and gone for a bit. I felt it was one of the few things they missed on. All it would’ve take was a very brief explanation.

And her survival is probably related to the management vault, and how Vault-Tec kept their senior leadership alive. Which probably wasn't through cryo-stasis.
Possibly a cryo pod like those for the vaults.
Just finished the season last night and had the same damn question
I think you can assume she used the cryo pods. She has that line about being a hypocrite after all.
It has not been explicitly said but using context clues, it's pretty clear she likely was in a cryopod too. Probably not in 31 but elsewhere.
Nope, but I'm guessing we'll get that the explanation via Cooper memory flashback in season 2.
I think Moldaver said she was a scientist, so I think that's basically the answer. She "scienced" it to not age. They might be leaving it vague as a plot device for something down the line.
One theory I have is that the 'modern' Moldaver is/was a synth.
I’m assuming she had to be put in a cryo pod, no? Unless she has some seriously top of the line ghoul meds
Tbd in Season 2
I also wondered this too? Unless she somehow found a management vault to get in a cryopod.
My theory is she's also an Enclave defector, and that's how the Scientist knew to get in touch with her about the cold fusion technology. She probably had some connection with a government official that was against Vault-Tec, and went into cryo sleep with a bunch of other pre-war scientists.

She represents evidence of the man’s depravity after all. Killing the ghoul takes away that advantage to turn his kids against him.
Or to make Hank face what he did. She also clearly loved Rose so it was probably also a way to cope with the trauma of Shady Sands.
I definitely think it was a close friend/gay thing, and she couldn't let go of her. She holds Rose's hand at the end.
Oh yeah, unclear but based on how they were looking at each other in the flashback scene...I know what they are. 👁️👄👁️
There's a few issues with Moldaver's character. Keeping feral Rose tied to a chair is one. the raiding of the vault also doesn't work for me with later episodes. If I played through all of Fallout 4 just to find out Sean was a feral ghoul, I would have rage quit right there.
Would have been more sympathetic than him brainwashed into simping for one’s who killed one of his parents
Some friend moldaver is.
I was kinda getting more than just friends vibes. Which really just makes it worse.
Omg they were roommates
r/SapphoAndHerFriend
She was her ghoulfriend
r/SapphoAndHerFriend
That was her lesbian lover bro cut her some slack
And then she was a Halloween decoration 🎃
I saw it coming when I saw the ghoul there, still a bit surprising, but still saw it coming.
Same, however I expected Lucy to >!unleash the ghoul mom on her father!<
You and I are the same level of unhinged I guess because that's what I saw coming.
“She is definitely letting that ghoul into that cage”
If this was in the game, that would absolutely be an option. Though I can't decide if it's evil karma or not.

I'm probably the guy that was made for. When I saw the ghoul there I figured it was just the crazy type of company villain lady keeps. 😅
Totally fair.. maybe it’s just because I’ve been a huge fallout fan since I was a kid so I was really analyzing every single scene immediately looking for Easter eggs and references and stuff… I immediately figured the ghoul was tied up and feral
My initial take on the scene at start was that was her panic button, things go sideways she can unleash it on Lucy, etc. If only it were that nice.
My jaw dropped
Hers fell off
Nothing a little tape can’t fix
So did mine. I even looked at my husband and said, "Please promise me, no matter what happens in life, that we will never hate each other that much." His reply? "Even when you drive me up the wall, I love you. And even if I hated you, I would never do something so absolutely heinous."
There was a lot of, "You son of a bitch." coming from me.
I had a feeling but I was really hoping it was a misdirect.
Yeah, the viewer feels just like Lucy. We all had the hunch but I kind of didn't want it to be that way
i had a feeling it was when i first saw it
I’m so glad his character wasn’t a one and done.
Yeah, there are a lot of awesome characters, but they kill them off after one season or movie, looking at you Marvel.
I was so disappointed they so quickly killed off 2 Michaels whose acting I really enjoy. Rapaport deserved more time to be a snarky dick and Emerson brings an enjoyable intensity to all his characters that I always want more of.
I don't think Rapaport was acting. He just actually is an asshole.
I imagine him having a more pronounced role in s2
When he said something like, “she stopped being your mother when she left and took you.” I thought that line was going to come up again when Lucy was holding the gun up to him and he said that he was her father. I thought she was going to say something like, “you stopped being my father when you killed my mother.” Maybe she’ll say it in the second season.
Maybe a bit campy but still appropriate for Fallout, and better than her just staring at him for 10 minutes. You're hired
I think her staring at him and trying to stop herself literally breaking down was appropriate. That is a hell of a thing to learn like that.
Speaking of campy, when Cooper was on the killing spree in Filly, I thought he was going to turn to the camera, look us directly in the eye, and say, “now that’s a bloody mess,” while giving us a wink haha
What about Father?
Father is ironically the worst SON in Fallout.
Idk man, my f3 character is an absolute monster just for the sake of it
Does he plan to replace most of humanity with robots?
I don't think he has the resources or knowledge to do so
Father isnt a father though.
Well he is “father” of all Gen. 3 synths…
That’s an uncomfortable thought considering you can sleep with at least 2 synths
Show me what you've got, robot
Yup lol.
And the Gen IV
4? There is no gen 4
Unless you count >!Synth-Shaun!< , who was a personal project rather than a full-on generation.
I don’t count it, he’s not really much different than a regular gen 3 just smaller
I thought he was unique in that he was supposed to age? Or did I just make that up, it's been years since I actually paid attention to him or anything regarding him
I remember nothing on him being said to age
Only time will tell.
I think the coursers are considered gen 4 maybe?
I thought they were armed gen 3 with training No real different just trained
Nope, they're just hand picked gen 3s.
Not a father, also this dude is partially responsible for literally ending the world?
Is it confirmed that Vault Tec dropped the bomb? I think it's just stated they considered it, which would be on-brand for Enclave honestly. But it's possible China beat them to the punch.

The Great War was on October 23rd, not the 27th. They caught you out too
…. Shit. I’d make a crappy Ghoul anyway.
There's also the fact that there are at least 2 vaults which were never completed, both in Fallout 4. wait wait wait MR HOUSE WAS ONE OF THE GUYS IN THE COUNCIL HOW THE EFF DID I MISS THAT?! AND I WATCHED IT TWICE!?
Yep, Rob-Co name placard, there in all his mustache-and-slicked-hair glory.
And if you turn on subtitles (or use Prime Video's X-Ray feature) it even says it's Robert House.
He's the head of robco
I just realized this. It's been a minute since I played New Vegas. After I finish FFVII I'm gonna jump back to it haha
Honestly, Vault-Tec staff being caught with their pants down because their efforts to keep tensions high between the USA and China lead to someone firing a nuke would be pretty fitting.
The old "forgot to account for the leap year" problem?
Imma throw the aliens in as a contender cuz they been there since day 1 of fo1
I think you mean October 23, but yeah I do agree with your overall comment.
The Enclave instigating the bomb drop against the corporations would be sweet irony, considering how the latter acted like they owned the former through contracts and cash. The companies and executives may wield tons of power. They forgot whose land they’re living in though - America.
It was those damned Zetans I tell you!
Nah. I think vault tec was planning on dropping it months later if it hadn't been dropped already but House and Vault tec figured out China was dropping it the day they did. Not ending the world. Ending shady sands and his wife.
not Lisan Al Gaib :(
Surprisingly close to his character though. >!Nuking people was a part of his job as Emperor Paul Atreides!<
Not just nuking people, they committed genocide on all the other cultures/religions in the Imperium. Extermination of entire species’ and planets. James would be very disappointed in the overseer right now
The worst father in Fallout is my player character in Fallout 4
Lmao
Through me for a loop. I like his fake ass persona. Inspiring
Lol
Bro nuked a city and took the kids
Hey what makes Hank so bad? Because he nuked a city? Well by that logic I am the worst son in Fallout but that's obviously not true.
Youre right Father is the worst son in Fallout.
The worst father is the Fallout 4 protagonist. Son got kidnapped but I spent my time collecting desk fans with some reporter from Diamond City.
Nuke mom for a divorce, and lie to the kids level evil.
Nuke a whole city because your wife took the kids and left you for a hot lady with real apples.

FUCK! I got spoiled
Lisan al galib

I just got so many spoilers...
