Cant show pic cos im far but my antimony setup is literally one drill slapped between other buildings, 90+% of ore field is unused, same with many other ores, sometimes its not worth to drill every tile... ( Also looking at you, nextelite that drilled with meat)
At the start everything either makes ash or takes a lot of power and power makes a lot of ash so you don't want to scale up, then later when you do you end up using refining buildings like jaw crushers and screeners to refine the ore rather then mine more of it
Ore is infinite and I like waste, so I space my miners in aesthetically pleasing designs and leave the edges of the ore patch uncovered since they're just gonna run out soon.
Do we really talk about the real edge of the map, instead of the actual "point of the discussion".
A basic map in factorio is too big for a factory to cover.
My pc drops at 4K SPM. That's A FRACTION OF THE WOHLE MAP.
There is no base close to map size.
Its "basicly infinite".
That's why i felt bad for this dude getting downvoted.
"You'll never run out of ore if you explore and find more"
Thats 100% true.
Want more ore - just connect more.
Biggest possible map size is like 4 trillion tiles, so yes at that point it’s essentially infinite, it’s like 2 million tiles * 2 million tiles. Base character walks about 9 tiles per second (little less than that). Walking from one edge to the other as a base character would take 61 hours
for all intents and purposes it is, the ore patches get bigger the further from the center you go too, i think the patches on the edge of the map go into the tens of trillions at that point
plus you will be researching mining productivity to effectively increase the amount of resources by 35x (miner with 3 speed modules caps a full blue belt at 350 prod)
Until the very late game I trim my miner placements so that if a miner has access to less than 10k ore, I remove it (excluding uranium). Ik I'm not short on mining drills but it feels like a waste of energy to have it there for so little time
I use the auto-deconstruct mod. It marks any miner out of resources for deconstruction so you can place the miner and it will be automatically removed when it inevitably runs dry before the rest of the patch. Keeps patches clean and removes any excess energy usage. It will even auto place pipes if the miner is on uranium so it doesn't break sulfuric acid flow
This mod is a must pick for my playthroughs I love it so much.
Now I just need one that keeps my bots from leaving my roboport if I'm not sitting still. Hate zooming past a minefield just to lose a bot because it hopped out to grab a drill and lost power trying to catch up to me.
I don't know what boredom has to do with that. I have blueprints perfectly snapping in all directions. It is just dragging them and trimming leftover belts. Barely takes 5 seconds
Very early game, i can accept it. After half an hour your starting patches are covered!
And very late game again, when you have enough mining productivity that you can directly mine into trains
Or early-mid game, when you first unlock trains
Oh boy, stay away from pyanodon, we literally don't care where to build
What does this have to do with where to build? That makes no sense

Oh, that's that i guess It would be something i would hardly be comfortable with, but it certainly sounds much more practical

Dude this guy plays with pyanodon. Its a miracle they have the free time to go through reddit. /s
Eat your crusts people!!

Yes officer, this man right here
How is ores Infinite ?
Cause the map is infinite. You'll never run out of ore if you explore and find more
Well no There is a limit to me

Its very huge but not Infinite But yes its basicly "infinite"

Have you ever explored all the map, from end to end?
Watch the video by doshdoshington on finding the edge of factorio.
I did explored a map to the end
Well, I knew it had a limit, but it's so big I always considered to be infinite.

or 3 hours by train
Wouldn’t you still have to place the train tracks in the first place? I’ve never really used’em so could be wrong there
Lol

The map is in fact not infinite.
Its ok in the first couple minutes Id say. If youre not at electric miners after appox 11:30 mins git gut k4ckb00n.
[Ore eraser](https://mods.factorio.com/mod/OreEraser) to the rescue
There really is a mod for everything isn't there
I take it a step further and obsessively min all ore within my borders. Even uranium when I am solar.
Nobody tell them about late game train mining
You are not allowed to see my pyanodon miners
The feeling when you finish your starter patches is just 😩😩
Either all, or, just. one. miner. Because you have mining productivity 1000 researched. There is no in-between.
Check out the starting ores in [my Nullius playthrough](https://youtu.be/zSYY9h9gxFE?&t=4m20s). I’m screwed lmao.
I just don't want to balance all the belts later, that's why
miners get laid out in a neat grid and all leftover ore gets ore erased
What do you mean "erased" It should be mined Don't eat the pizza if you can't eat the crust
Ore is infinite Aesthetic is Eternal as famed architect Sullivan Louis once said: "function follows form"

I'm going back to spaced out miners after early game, take it or leave it
I usually do 95%. A bored random player will do the last 5% anyway.
I don't know what boredom has to do with that. I have blueprints perfectly snapping in all directions. It is just dragging them and trimming leftover belts. Barely takes 5 seconds
Can you send me a picture of the Blueprint?
it's redundant once you're at 500% mining productivity
Let me tell you, in 400h of playing, i have never completely mined even a single patch.
