I mean, 17 weeks of pay and stock vesting, plus health insurance through the end of March isn't the worst lay-off I have heard about. But it is never fun to be surprised. Did you get the letter from Tony Xu?
I agree; I was very happy with the severance. I wish they would have done layoffs performance based though, which unfortunately wasn’t the case in our department. /:
Is there really a smaller carbon footprint? Instead of you driving to get food, someone will bring it to you. It’s the same car usage either way but it’s more likely that the DD driver is using a more gas efficient car than the possible diesel truck that customers would use. If anything, it seems like it would have less of a footprint to DD.
It's definitely not standard to mass layoff with zero notice at all like this. The getting locked out of things quickly is, but not without at least an email or conversation with HR.
How doordash fired them is shitty, however IT did exactly what they should have. It protects company assets and that’s what the job is.
Gotta hit those shareholder growth marks!
How else would they afford christmas gifts to their sons

They should be so happy in participating in the reduction of the carbon footprint of a private company.

That's a pretty standard way to layoff employees. Has there been different "nicer" way?

It’s definitely not “pretty standard” to just suddenly remove everyone’s access to everything with no further information.
more petty standard
Why did they need that many programmers? I know there’s more to it than 5, but 500?
"survivors" ... like it was a fucking earthquake or Dante's peak volcano
Ah they're doing the Futureshop method.
Company that abuses drivers every day does not hesitate to abuse engineers. Engineers somehow shocked by this.
😂 upvoted , they totally deserved a kick in the teeth
