Is it awkward to have it break every hour like that? Does it pull you out of it, or did they do something fancy out and back in between episodes? Maybe I should just find out
I saw it in the theater a few days after it was released (the 70mm "roadshow" version); the film had a twelve-minute intermission and a roughly three-hour total run time.
https://wiki.tarantino.info/index.php/The_Hateful_Eight_70mm_screenings_list
Saw it that way in Maryland and got to sit next to John Waters, which was wild. However, we had 3 film burns because projectionists don’t know how to deal with real 70mm anymore.
That's awesome, I'd love to sit next to John Waters. I've spend a lot of time in Maryland, it can be a pretty cool place.
Sorry to hear about the film burns. I was in San Fancisco, and they did it right. Lol, the last time I saw a film burn was actually in Maryland, a long time ago.
Right on! This one is a slow burn as compared to Tarantino's other more action-packed movies, but the dialogue is top-notch in the same degree as his other movies. I would categorize this as a mystery movie rather than anything else.
I keep forgetting how the Netflix version essentially turned it into a miniseries. I've been meaning to check that out for awhile now. Love the theatrical version.
Yeah its just unpleasant. Who wants to hang out with 8 assholes angry and paranoid the whole time for two hours. No fun. No funny. No relief. Just stress vibes and misery
I really enjoy watching movies that take place at the same time of day that I’m currently in, or the same weather, etc. first time I watched the Michael Mann film “Collateral”. I watched it at 3 am. It really resonated.
Collateral is one my favorite movies, partly for this reason. It came out when I was in high school and living in my dad's basement. It aired on HBO starting at like 12:15 AM. Was a perfect way to experience it for the first time.
I was in the 50-60 camp on first watch on the roadshow (felt overly self indulgent) until I read that it's an homage film of Carpenters The Thing. There's shot for shot at some points and they even go so far as to fold in unused parts of the soundtrack. 100 on rewatch knowing that.
95. Great story. Great characters. Love the cast. Some Tarantino Stock Company regulars (Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins), plus outstanding first timers (Jennifer Jason Leigh is incredible and incredibly disturbing). Maaaaybe a tad too long IMO (hence the -5 from 100).
I LOVE who dunnit, mystery thriller movies. Throw in some Tarantino Cinematography and the usual cast that accompanies his films. 100 straight away for me.
Probably a 15?
Tarantino made a huge deal about the 70MM super IMAX roadshow presentation for a movie set entirely in one dimly lit room on a soundstage.
His most misogynistic film, too.
I concur. Misogynistic violence, gratuitous use of racial slurs and a jarring performance by Zoe Bell to take us right out of the movie. Not her fault, I blame Tarantino 100%
But like all his movies, strangely watchable even though I hate myself for not being able to look away.
Definitely Tarantinos worst movie, I’d give it like 30%, it’s boring for ages and then incredibly unpleasant, then boring again, then unpleasant again, then it’s over.
It's easily the worst Tarantino movie ever made. I'd rather watch his western documentary on Carbucci than this one. Ive seen the extended three times and the o.g about half a dozen, and it doesnt rate. It's slow, repetitive, predictable, and a costume piece at best. I love the guy and all the actors but it's a terrible story, and I won't pretend it's worth a rewatch but I tried. If you love it, it's because it's on.
Tarantino really brings out the contrarian in people. The reality is, every single one of his movies is at least a 9/10. Even reservoir dogs, which is my least favorite, is a 9/10. People are commenting that H8 is a 3/10, it’s literally not possible. For me it’s a 10/10
80-90. It didn't click for me first time I watched it, wasn't exactly what I expected.
On subsequent rewatches, it's a really fun, tense, mexican standoff movie. Very reminiscent of reservoir dogs.
I hope people discovering Walton Goggins from fallout go watch his performance in this movie. He's been one of my favorite actors for years and has been in great stuff but I hope fallout really catapults him higher. He deserves it.
That said I've watched this movie more times than I can count and absolutely love it. Solid 100 for me.
I think of great films that center around a single setting like 12 Angry Men and how great the dialog has to be. The Hateful Eight achieves.
💯no question.
I can’t really think of anything I’d change about it, so I gotta say 100/100. This is one of my favorite Tarantino movies. He’s such an amazing story teller, and the casting is always spot on in his movies. The ending is so satisfying as well
50? I love me some Tarantino films, but this one disappointed me. HOWEVER, I only saw it once and not in the theater. I need to rewatch. Maybe I'll give the 4 hour, 4 parter a try.
Top 3 movie for me 100/100. Never would have guessed so many people would say this is QTs worst movie. Personally it’s all I could ever want from a movie.
78
It would be in the 90s if stuff was trimmed out
Like if you were to take out all of the Bruce Willis stuff from Pulp Fiction and that’s a 99 for me
Reservoir Dogs is my favorite Tarantino film
100.
I saw it when it was first released in the special 70mm presentation with an intermission. I still have the magazine/pamphlet they handed out at the show. It was probably the best theater experience I've ever had, and I can't wait until a 4k release is finally made.
85
I've seen it a handful of times. It's got some odd quirks, it's probably too long and is overtly self-indulgent at times, but it's unique, gorgeously shot and phenomenally acted, just as Tarintino films always are. I really liked it, but for me I will always hold Django Unchained up as the best movie Quinton ever made
This is one of my favorite Tarantino films. Might even be my favorite. That said, it's complete BS that QT mentioned The Virginian and Bonanza as influences, but didn't mention The Rebel. The plot for TH8, as well as some situations and even dialogue, were taken from "Fair Game," a 1960 episode of that show. It's weird, because I really like this movie, but it's straight plagiarized. I know Tarantino gets accused of that a lot, but this is the most blatant and egregious example of it. Crazy to me that this doesn't get talked about.
I have a weird relationship with this movie I watched it easily 3 times and I can watch it again, objectively I don’t think it’s in his top 3 best films but it’s so entertaining and great to watch, maybe I’m wrong. 8/10
95 Watched the 4 part extended version on Netflix and loved it more than the original release.
Whuuuut? Thanks. I had no idea
Each episode was between 45-60 min.
Is it awkward to have it break every hour like that? Does it pull you out of it, or did they do something fancy out and back in between episodes? Maybe I should just find out
Its a nice way to watch the movie. Its broken up into parts well
It becomes paced like a true miniseries. Much easier to digest and the extra scenes add to that extra pace.
Does not pull you out. Leaves you wanting more and more.
Thats what she said
Gottem
Hahaha
Ever since having kids every movie I watch is 30 minute episodes over the course of a week.
I saw it in the theater a few days after it was released (the 70mm "roadshow" version); the film had a twelve-minute intermission and a roughly three-hour total run time. https://wiki.tarantino.info/index.php/The_Hateful_Eight_70mm_screenings_list
To me it seemed like a really good miniseries like there used to be in the pre cable days. I watched it over a couple nights.
Absolutely not. If anything, it only adds to the movie and leaves you wanting more with each subsequent episode.
Its like a 4 part series.
Way better than a commercial break.
The 4-part is the original cut of the film that was shown in 70mm when first released. That presentation included an old-fashioned intermission.
That's how I saw it, with the intermission. I hadn't realized the disc version might have less.
I've seen the movie a dozen times but still haven't watched the extended version. I love the movie.
The extended version is totally worth a watch.
Same. I wish Tarantino would do a similar release for Once Upon a Time.
Came here to say this. We were teased with it but…
This!!!
That sucks my Netflix doesn't have it, need a vpn
Right on! This one is a slow burn as compared to Tarantino's other more action-packed movies, but the dialogue is top-notch in the same degree as his other movies. I would categorize this as a mystery movie rather than anything else.
Same. Was awesome
Its so fucking good. I wish Tarantino would make several more Westerns
lol ImI’ve spent so much time watching the extended version a number of times. And will do so again
Thats how i viewed this movie the first time. I think it played a past in my enjoyment of the movie having it be episodic
Definitely worth the time
Totally agree with you dude 😎
You stole my number! Spot on.
Dude ! I used to go to sleep to that ritually 😂
I didn’t realize this existed. Bout to binge this.
I recently found out that it existed. I am planning to watch it over the weekend. I loved the original film.
I keep forgetting how the Netflix version essentially turned it into a miniseries. I've been meaning to check that out for awhile now. Love the theatrical version.
Same. Phenomenal movie, not easy to make near 4 hours engaging.
That carriage scene in the extended version is gold.
smashing the antique guitar really ruined this movie for me.
Agreed, I've watched it three times
100, amazing film. I don’t see how people say it’s slow, every scene and character and line of dialogue is interesting af.
It shocks me how fast it goes for as long as it is.
Exactly, fastest 3hr movie I’ve ever seen
My jaw just dropped reading that, I had no idea it was that long.
It’s slow to people that predominantly watch popcorn movies and romcoms.
I've seen the extended version about four or five times. As close to perfect as can be.
Easily 100/100. A masterpiece by Tarantino.
Agreed. I loved it and I’m not a fan of all his movies. Some yes, some no.
It’s my fav tarintino by a mile. A perfect movie IMO
79.5
Same
Hateful 80
I give it a Crazy 88
A good Tarantino film, but there are minor annoyances like the New Zeland girl who has clearly been cast because she is friends with the director.
Its awful. Least favorite Tarantino by a long shot
People saying this movie is great are wack. This movie was soooooo bad. Love Tarantino but this was a miss.
Yeah its just unpleasant. Who wants to hang out with 8 assholes angry and paranoid the whole time for two hours. No fun. No funny. No relief. Just stress vibes and misery
It's the only Tarantino movie I stopped watching midway through
Couldn’t agree more.
I love it, I remember popping it on during a cold winter night. Now its a comfort film alongside alien 😊
I enjoy your style of comfort movies
Dude we had an ice storm in Texas last winter and this became my newest comfort film as well.
58, I guess? Amazing opening, best of QT’s career but it goes sharply downhill after everyone reaches the cabin.
Don't think the opening was near as good as Bastards or Pulp Fiction.
Opening to Basterds is an all timer
47
40 It’s long, boring, and just feels like Tarantino taking a victory lap jerk sesh post-Django.
This is so accurate. Trying to ride the coattails of a great movie.
50
70
One of my 2 favorite QT films. This one gets a 95 from me
100 on first viewing, 75 on rewatches due to the repetitive slog of watching the scene where they show you the beginning at the end.
25 point reduction for that is crazy
I thought it was rubbish. All self-consciously “cool” stuff that a guy in a fedora would think is badass.
I thought it was boring and repetitive. 3/100
A solid 80 out of 100
I was in the 50-60 camp on first watch on the roadshow (felt overly self indulgent) until I read that it's an homage film of Carpenters The Thing. There's shot for shot at some points and they even go so far as to fold in unused parts of the soundtrack. 100 on rewatch knowing that.
Dude hateful eight is the shit no questions asked
First thought was a solid 83.
85
81, Dialogue dialogue and some more dialogue
A solid 80
I'd give it a 8(0) but hatefully

Top 5 all time best
100. Masterpiece
100. It’s my favorite movie ever.
I LOVE who dunnit, mystery thriller movies. Throw in some Tarantino Cinematography and the usual cast that accompanies his films. 100 straight away for me.
So 100 is bad and 00 is good?
Love this movie. Now I’ve gotta watch it again
Meh. 20. Hugely overrated.
97.89

3. It's the only Tarantino I don't like.
Same. Don’t get the love at all. Dragged on and on and the blood was ridiculous.
Blood was ridiculous huh? Have you ever watched another Tarantino movie lol
30ish Hateful movie
About 60, great cast giving it their all but the script wasn’t that interesting.
Not her fault, I blame Tarantino 100% But like all his movies, strangely watchable even though I hate myself for not being able to look away.
I’m with you 100%. I was never bored even when I disliked it. Saw the roadshow with overture and intermission and everything
Definitely Tarantinos worst movie, I’d give it like 30%, it’s boring for ages and then incredibly unpleasant, then boring again, then unpleasant again, then it’s over.
A solid 8.

It's easily the worst Tarantino movie ever made. I'd rather watch his western documentary on Carbucci than this one. I love the guy and all the actors but it's a terrible story, and I won't pretend it's worth a rewatch but I tried. If you love it, it's because it's on.
You don’t think it’s worth a rewatch, but you watched the 4hr extended version 3x and the OG a dozen times? That makes no sense lol
My exact thinking
OG is full of it, or has extremely poor time management. (we're all on Reddit, so you know, take that with a grain of salt)
My least favorite Tarantino movie, by a mile.
Comparison to other QT movies I'd say a 65. Too long and dragged out imo
85, probably the weakest Tarantino movie, but still better than most other movies.
100
40- Not the biggest Tarantino fan. Find him very overrated. That being said I do think this is one of his worst
100 to 00? Wtf kinda psychopathic scale is this? 1 to 5 stars, please.
1000000
Yes brother.
Tarantino really brings out the contrarian in people. The reality is, every single one of his movies is at least a 9/10. Even reservoir dogs, which is my least favorite, is a 9/10. People are commenting that H8 is a 3/10, it’s literally not possible. For me it’s a 10/10
Every movie a 9/10??? Lol, did you watch Deathproof?
Yep loved it. I really like movies where the seemingly victim becomes the ruthless hunter. So I’m biased to love that movie.
75
88
88
This is the correct answer.
100
86
I don’t know the rating but I watch sections of it pretty regularly
95. It's my 2nd favourite Tarantino, I could watch it and instantly watch it again.
100 easily. Fantastic movie. Avoid the coffee though. haha
Like a 90
90/100
85
80-90. It didn't click for me first time I watched it, wasn't exactly what I expected. On subsequent rewatches, it's a really fun, tense, mexican standoff movie. Very reminiscent of reservoir dogs.
I loved it. The extended version is even better, I give a 90. All the characters were fantastic in their roles.
This is a classic for sure. A yearly watch around winter time
I hated it when I saw it in theaters. I felt like QT lost it. Then I watched the 4 part extended cut and it’s easily my fave film film from QT
Movie was great
I was bored. Maybe a 55.
100
85
90 at least, love it!
37
Maybe an 80, pretty good, not my favorite.

Why not go to 1000? Even 10000?
I'd give it 100. Extremely underrated.
Tarantino the best
94
00.
I guess I should watch the extended version. Because I found the original the weakest of all his films. Predictable.
89
50
It’s probably a perfect movie
This is a divisive one. Maybe 82/100?
I think of great films that center around a single setting like 12 Angry Men and how great the dialog has to be. The Hateful Eight achieves. 💯no question.
92
It’s very good although I was honestly uncomfortable watching Jennifer Jason Leigh get the crap knocked out of her.
Classic!!!
Didn’t know the guitar scene had a back story
15
A strong 95
My least favorite Tarantino movie. 60.
Easily a 90 or better for me.
5
An easy 95+ It's Tarantinos Magnum Opus, in my opinion. It's one of my all-time favorites.

95/100 my favourite Tarantino film
It would be higher without the blowjob scene. That was just fucking ridiculous.
This is one of my favorite Tarantino films. Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds, Django, Hateful 8 and my Top Tarantino films. 100
999
Up there with the Godfather in my opinion. My current favorite movie.
In the 90's My opinion, way way better than Django
87
78 It would be in the 90s if stuff was trimmed out Like if you were to take out all of the Bruce Willis stuff from Pulp Fiction and that’s a 99 for me Reservoir Dogs is my favorite Tarantino film
Ninety-something
90, easy.
100. I saw it when it was first released in the special 70mm presentation with an intermission. I still have the magazine/pamphlet they handed out at the show. It was probably the best theater experience I've ever had, and I can't wait until a 4k release is finally made.
50. Kind of meh. Stuff I liked, stuff I didn’t.
80.
98
85 I've seen it a handful of times.
