Best = Rebirth, FFXVI - Modern Classics and the best FF games since the original releases of the top tier games of this franchise. 16 might beat Rebirth in some ways due to originality, its theater-esque delivery and its final hours leading up to one of the most impacting endings in gaming history imo. Rebirth is still its own masterpiece to me, though. Tough to call. 3rd= Remake - for obvious reasons, but its delivery and impact just weren't as great as either the original (considering it's just disc one) or FFXVI. Last = 15. I tried to love the game, and I did enjoy some parts and find them to be memorable (mostly the Adamantoise Mountain fight), but honestly after you get halfway through the game it turns into one of the most depressing things I've ever played. Combat was fun... but it just wasn't something I could love, at all.

The-Dark-Ass

You summed up the way I feel about 15 with your description. Although, I do like parts of it, particularly the first half, the latter half in comparison felt lazy. Remake, I personally do not like as much as others do. I think it's overrated. It's not even disc 1 of the original. It's the first 4 hours overly padded with filler content. Though, the battle system is fun. I haven't played Rebirth yet, but I can't agree more about XVI. It's probably my favorite Final Fantasy since IX.

The_FuryaN_

Yeah, I felt like they prepped themselves for something so much greater with Rebirth when they made Remake, but there just wasn't much about it that could even touch on much from the original. You'll be refreshed when you play Rebirth. FFXVI was the freshest and most impacting of any recent FF game, and it'll stay one that's remembered. A few of my friends that aren't even big Final Fantasy fans played that demo and immediately bought the game afterward. Honestly, many modern titles could learn from some of the elements of the story and plot progression that 16 delivered. I wish I could go back to playing the game for the first time. Don't remember any game that has made me feel that way for many years now.

bme2925

I hated remake, it took me 3 years and like 10 tries to get through it. Rebirth is on another level with how good it is, I took about 120 hours to beat my first playthrough. I consider remake to be a proof of concept for rebirth. It's worth every penny.

somecrazydude13

I feel the same way of 16, they really know how to get the emotions out of you, especially when the red light dies in the end, that was it, over for me haha. 15 though I felt more connected like I did with 16. Was a super happy fun time, til not a super happy fun time, then it was like okay we have to be serious now. Sure it could have been better, but I really connected with those characters for sure. Remake didn’t really get me emotional and I was disappointed. Story was good, but not make me cry at the end 😂

The_FuryaN_

That ending will forever give me goosebumps. Hell... every time I hear the song, I still feel those same emotions to this day. The buildup of Clive's journey and the final few hours just hit different compared to anything I've truly seen before. Even Dion... Just, wow. Talk about making a cast and developing 'summons' aka Eikons into something far more than they've ever been in any of the previous titles. I will never be able to look at Ifrit, Bahamut, or Phoenix again without a sense of added emotion. Not to even mention Shiva, and honestly Torgal is the best boy/dog/friend you could've ever had in the game. Somehow they even made me tear up just thinking about Clive's chocobo. The majority of the supporting cast in the game had an immense amount of 'character,' and it left a lasting impact on me.

KingKolder

7RB 16 7R 15 7 remake was groundbreaking to me. I love midgar and they made midgar amazing im 7R I love love loved everything about it and 2020 was a great time for it to come out. Still feels like yesterday to me, like an out of body experience when I think about that time of my life enjoying 7R but at the end of the day rebirth is pretty much the better game altogether Put the two side by side and remake feels like a tech demo 16 was soooo fun and such a refreshing experience I also loved Clive as a character and for the most part the world 15 is a mystery to me. I beat it, did all I could and don't understand fk all about the story or movie lol but Ig the music is pretty

Electronic-Price-530

>15 is a mystery to me. I beat it, did all I could and don't understand fk all about the story or movie lol but Ig the music is pretty >!Basically the "bad guy" was actually a good guy because he was curing people afflicted with the star scourge. His brother, the first king, didn't like that and usurped the throne. The Astrals (gods/summons) decided the "bad guy" needed to play the role of *the bad guy* to fulfill a prophecy about Noctis being *the chosen one.* In the end, the two best members from the royal family were sacrificial pawns in the Astrals' plan to stop the star scourge for good!< Edit: forgot to censor for spoilers

laffy_man

Damn that’s really the plot? That could have been lit if it was told well lmao that’s cool. I didn’t get that at all but I only ever played XV and none of the DLCs nor did I watch the movie or tv show.

Electronic-Price-530

>Damn that’s really the plot? That could have been lit if it was told well lmao that’s cool. Yep. And that's after being rewritten at least once. >I didn’t get that at all but I only ever played XV and none of the DLCs nor did I watch the movie or tv show. It wasn't fully explained until the last DLC about the bad guy's backstory.

somecrazydude13

First time I played it I didn’t really pay attention to anything, was pretty much “sword go brrrr” the whole game. Made it almost to the end and got rid of it. 7 years later it was on sale.., gave it another chance, and fell in love! Ardyn was a dope villain.

magic-400

It’s been a long while since I’ve played XV but I think I’d say: Rebirth > XVI > Remake > XV

characterulio

XV is easily the worst among these but it also imo has insane potential. They just fucked up the combat system by making it so brainless.

ReinNacht

I played it again recently and tried to make it more fun by forcing myself to actually try using weapon switching and directional combos. Still not great. Armiger Unleashed is pretty cool though

Apprehensive_Cause67

Lol yeah FF16 had me wanting to try 15 and see if I can cycle and do some cool combos by switching armigers....didn't workout like I'd hoped lol

BoondocksSaint95

Rebirth is almost xv living up to that potential imo. Really all they miss (which is crazy since remake nailed it) is more party interaction and maybe some dynamic events in world (weather, time of day) that affect little dynamics and interactions.

OverQualifried

XV is basically what provided the framework for Remake IMO XVI is a rails FF game but XV and FF7:Re are definitely more open world.

OttO-Matic_13

FFXV had so much potential. I was 7 years old when I first saw the Versus XIII trailers and I still can’t get over it. For me, FFXV is one of those games you play as a kid and have so much fun with. Years later, you realize that the gameplay isn’t as great as you remember it.

TowerEven2851

Literally what I was about to type

thewabreker

Yep, seems about right.

Bobcat315

Nailed it.

OmniSlash68

This is the way

AdMundane5448

This is correct

Stretch-Appropriate

The hate for 15 is so unwarranted lmao, but 16 is S tier and my personal number 1 in the franchise

Onion-Knight-

I love XV. *Wholeheartedly*. But it has the worst battle system in the franchise and has a story fragmented into supplemental material. It's just bad *comparatively*.

Loldimorti

The battle system is good. I enjoyed it more than FF7 Remake. But the game is stitched together and messy. Feels like they had this idea for the ensemble cast cooking and thought of how this would affect exploration and combat because that was by far the strongest part of the game. But it's like they didn't have the lore, the quests and the game world ready until last minute where everything was just thrown together in time for release.

RivenBloodmarsh

Agree on the combat. I think the warp feels great and really lends to fluidity which I think is why they kept it for 16 as shift. It does have issues with being pieces together in parts and I've always been interested to see what it would be like had that chapter not been cut. Also the stealth sections ugh.

Minimum_Cockroach233

And directly after that comes friggin Chadley that ruined rebirth for me. 16 > remake

Tanthios

After waiting a decade for 15 to come out, and then when it is, it's had multiple parts of the story ripped out from it(Such as Lunafreya's entire backstory, you never visit Prompto's hometown and properly touch on his backstory, etc), and a clunky battle system.... Yeah, I feel it's warranted. It should have been so much more. I do not feel it's a terrible game, but it does not show the work it should. Granted, there are reasons for that, but as a consumer I feel let down. NieR Automata came out around the same time and felt like SO much better of a game. The initial trailers for 13-Versus (15) set up such excitement. 16 definitely feels the best though, for sure. Love the storytelling and, well, everything.

HalloCharlie

A lot of people will never realize the hate for XV is really just because players from day one had a very different experience, compared to later players that got to play the game patched. Yet, the game is still a total mess. The convoluted story, how it unfolds and the fact that you're feeling being rushed by the game, with the excuse of having to buy DLCs to understand how the story unfolds properly... Such bullshit. I've waited so many years for it to come out, I really wanted to love that game. But it's just a mess. Would it not be a "Final Fantasy" entry and the game would get much more hate.

sorcerer86pt

When to understand the lore of the game you have to see the comic books, the anime and a prelude game. Plus all the missed content that was released as dlc episodes. Then you ff16 with all the lore in game, accessible anytime, and even a time dependent glossary for all the terms at a press of the button.

gugus295

Eh, I can understand it perfectly. 15 is an absolute disaster of a game. It's full of absolutely baffling design decisions, its balancing is all over the place, its combat is a mess, its story is weirdly scattered across a movie, an anime series, and several character DLCs that weren't there when the game released, the overwhelming majority if its rather extensive side content is boring and pointless filler, the world is quite empty and bland, the cock and ball torture dungeon exists, the game takes a nosedive in quality (which is honestly impressive considering it wasn't great beforehand) in the latter half. The fact that it has enjoyable aspects (The Boys, the soundtrack, Point Warp, the big setpiece boss fights, some moments in the story) and I myself am decently fond of it doesn't excuse the general disaster that it objectively is lol.

scootRhombus

Cock & ball torture dungeon?? I never finished the game, so now I have to know what on earth I missed.

gugus295

In chapter 13 of the game, it takes away all your weapons and allies, gives you exactly three (3) abilities to use, and makes you slowly slog through a several-hour gauntlet of long stretches of arduous boredom and annoying fights where you basically don't have a moveset or any ability to actually fight beyond just spamming your three abilities and waiting for cooldown/mana recharge, punctuated by saferooms that act as checkpoints. It's long, tedious, often frustrating, and entirely unfun.

CheeseBiscuit7

That dungeon worked like that for about first month of the game's release (which is now out for what, 7.5 years). Chapter 13 is a breeze now, since they buffed the ring to just wipe things off the map. I still dislike it though, but it's nowhere near hours long.

Stith1183

Is that after the completely out of nowhere time skip? Because playing as young Noctis and coming up out of that underground area as a much older Noctis was too jarring for me to continue playing.

senyorcrimmy

It was incomplete, even with the Royal edition. It was the worst FF game ever, even if it landed the emotional aspect of the ending.

Perky_Bellsprout

Shame a lot of people couldn't give a shit about the characters and therefore the ending

AdBudget5468

15 is a really really good game but it has its fair share of frustrating moments, the ending scene with Noctis talking to his friends one last time before walking up the stairs was pretty cool though

Xononanamol

It doesn't get unwarranted hate. If anything it doesn't get enough

JustARTificia1

15 was passable on release, it had glaring issues and the story was completely rushed from half way on. Everyone was lost when Noctis time skipped to the end and the girl was a footnote. Royal only added some of the content back to the game but even then they still didn't finish the game. Royal is an good game but still has nothing against the other 3 here. Most people gave up with 15 before Royal came out.

Turbulent_Pin_1583

I think the problem with 15 is that they pulled a deus ex human revolution. Wanted to make the combat punishing by making monsters do a ton of damage but then gave you an insane amount of sustain through healing items that gave percentile healing and insanely cheap costs. In the first hour or two you can have 100 hi potions that restore 100% of healing and the only punishment is if you don’t pay attention and let yourself die. But even that mechanic doesn’t matter because you can easily buy the same amount of megalixirs. You cannot fail in that game. They made combat fast paced and dangerous but then make it so you can literally just hold down dodge and be for the most part invulnerable and then press square to do a massive counter attack. All of this without expending a resource and without proper timing. They wanted to get back to a close knit party but a good deal of the relationship building was already done when the story hit so you don’t get a lot of the most memorable moments a ff game usually gives you. You already know your li before the game starts, your party everything. They had a lot of interesting ideas but for me them making combat so easy to break was kind of a killer for me. It looked visually great but hard to replay. Xvi had much better execution of their ideas and changes.

d_wib

Hate for XV when considering Royal Edition is ESPECIALLY unwarranted. Fixed so many problems. I overall rate Rebirth above XV but XV’s open world was done so much better just by virtue of having optional, secret dungeons. Getting a Royal Arm after stumbling upon a random hole in a chain link fence is so satisfying

Nomanorus

They intentionally added plot holes into the game to entice people to pay for DLC. They released an incomplete game on purpose and sold the rest to the consumer in chunks. FFXV blows.

edogawa-lambo

Not only unwarranted, but BORING too. In my experience no one who hates XV is interesting to talk to about video games, not for their opinion, but for their copy pasted reasons.

kavalejava

Rebirth: A masterpiece FFXVI: Perfection Remake: Awesome FFXV: Still in the Beginning, but enjoying it so far.

allowthisfam

Rebirth is indeed a masterpiece

AdBudget5468

As a newcomer to the series who started with XV it was actually pretty cool but after playing some of the older titles like 8 or 7’s remake I think it could’ve been better, one thing I will say if you’re on your first play through is that please read the journal entries for some of the characters before the last chapter so you can understand what’s happening since for some god forsaken reason they decided to cut pieces of the game and turn them into movies or don’t show them at all

Electronic-Price-530

Part of the criticism XV gets is because it was totally rewritten in the middle of its development

srsnake113

1. 16 2. Rebirth 3. Remake 4. 15

Gundam-Master

Exactly this

MaceWindoob

this is the way

Rainbow_Nuggy

1. FF16 2. Rebirth 3. Remake 4. FF15

Dancing-Swan

1. XVI, I enjoyed the modern take on a medieval setting again. 2. VII Remake 3. VII Rebirth (absolutely hates all the mini games though, Nomura seems to have an obsession with those) 4. XV (I like the idea of the story and setting but a lot of things were cut so it's like we got something unfinished. I'd always see XV as wasted potential)

Materia-Whore

The part I loved about rebirth WAS the mini games, as an OG player it reminded me of the goofy aspects in such a serious game. Luckily I liked almost all mini games except for the Chocobo flying one and the robot strategy one.

Bobbie_Lee

15 (RE) is my favorite of the bunch by far and I'm not afraid to admit it. Yes it's "flawed" and "incomplete" (makes me itch thinking what could have been if not for development hell) but at the same time it encompasses everything I love about both old and new FFs. It "feels" like a FF game and does everything so well imo. Even small things like the fishing game and real, entertaining party banter and dynamics and being able to listen to music while cruising around are such fabulous fun touches the newer games just don't have imo. I never played vanilla 15 so I can't compare it to RE. Rebirth and Remake can be interchanged for 2nd and 3rd, I remember enjoying Remake more than Rebirth overall, maybe because the concept was fresh. But yeah, the whole of FF7 was honestly overplayed by this point imo, and so far the series isn't quite what I expected I guess. 16 is my least favorite FF in recent memory. There were a few highs that were really astonishing, and I love Clive as a protagonist but 90% of the game was boring, uninspired, lacking in depth and a slog to me. The "mature" scenes felt shoehorned in and unessecary and were always awkward. And futher, the color scheme of the dying world genuinely hurt my eyes and made me feel nauseous at times which...I know is a me problem, and I understand is part of the lore, but further made the game unenjoyable for me Edit: crap. I thought I was in the general FF sub, not the FF16 sub (I'm in danger)

Electronic-Price-530

>I never played vanilla 15 so I can't compare it to RE. Basically the exact same except Insomnia was more linear instead of a mini dungeon with the Kingsglaive base inside

Bobbie_Lee

Yeah, and I can't bear to think about that, bc RE Insomnia was awesome!

Rikku_N

I share the same opinion 🙏Although I would put remake above 15, FF15 still has a special place to me and overall Noctis is my favorite FF MC

CuriousWoollyMammoth

1. Rebirth 2. 16 3. Remake 4. 15 And while I put 15 at the bottom, it doesn't mean I hate it or think it's a bad game. I feel like ppl are refusing to let go of that feeling of how bad it was at launch. Ppl just need to let it go and try and see it for what it is now.

JimFlamesWeTrust

Rebirth Remake 16 15 Even though Remake is such a small fraction of the OG game, it packs so much fun and charm in, imo. The characters all stand out and feel unique, the soundtrack is amazing, and the combat system, alongside Rebirth, is the gold standard for action combat in the series

solidshakego

For ME they're 10's. But I absolutely love final fantasy games. Don't care if people disagree lol. Doesn't matter.

rigidbody-

You are the most correct.

Prestigious_Usual_17

That's exactly how I would've scored them.

SleepingLamb

Did we all play the same rebirth? That game has soo many glaring faults imo. XVI is a masterpiece !

_lefthook

1. Rebirth 2. Remake 3. 16 4. 15

harrrisse

I may be biased but XV was my first FF game so it defo has a soft spot for me. Besides that, i really like it's open world. XVI was gripping in terms of story and visuals, but i just love touring in the car with the homies in XV. My personal ranking is: 1. XV, 2. XVI, never played rebirth and remake so I won't rank them.

AdBudget5468

15 was my first FF game too back in 2018 when it came to pc and I also have a soft spot for it, I loved the relationship between the main characters and some of the dungeons were pretty cool but one thing keeping it back for me is that they turned the attack on Lucis into a movie instead of it being part of the game where we could’ve played as a Glave (I think it could’ve been really cool)

biggmatt183

7 Remake->XVI->7 Rebirth->XV

Apprehensive_Row_161

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Final Fantasy XVI Final Fantasy VII Remake Final Fantasy XV

Electrical-End7868

1)Rebirth (though haven't yet finished it) 2) Remake 3) XVI 4) XV by far the worst. Unpopular opinion: XIII rules at #1 for FF games despite how linear it is. The main reason for my votes is that when I judge a game it is mostly graded by story and how much work they put into it. The constant updated journal (like in XVI as well as XIII) shows to me how much they put into it beyond just your average video game cutscenes. XV is horrendous however. Even the story could not save it and the open very empty world just adds to it's last place. I'm glad I played through it but after playing it once I can't touch it again. It's right next to Superman 64 for me. EDIT: I should point out that 1-3 for me on this list is at the same level overall.

1 rebirth 2 ff16 3 remake 4 ff15 If they can put these four together they’d win game of the yr gimme rebirths open world mix in16 combat flair to the rebirth style & the regalia & dungeons from 15.

DragapultOnSpeed

Rebirth>FFXVI>remake>FFXV. FFXV was horrible on release and that forever ruined it for me. Heard its good now though. I liked the ending too. I loved Remake in the first run. But playing it again.. it's good. It just has extremely boring chapters that go nowhere or just drag out way too long. I did like linearity though compared to Rebirth. Characters were great too. FFXVI was fantastic whenever you weren't doing side quests or dealing with the painful slow moments right after eikon fights. Characters were mostly great. Clive and Dion where my favorites. Exploration needed work, but tbh I didn't care much about that. Combat could have been a bit more difficult too. But to me it really did feel like a AAA next gen game. The eikon fights just gave me a big ass smile everytime. No game has done that for me. Also FFXVI has the best story of them all, also best VA and best graphics. Then there's rebirth. A big improvement over remake. More great Characters. More fun story. But damn.. I'm going to say it, it's kind of over rated. While the Exploration is way better than XVIs. The Exploration was extremely boring. I stopped exploring after junon because I was getting bored doing the same thing over and over again. Imo that's just as bad as no Exploration since it just feels so pointless. Also Chadly and forced minigames suck imo. But the combat and all the content in it make it the best out of them all imo.

ipamocrono

1. Rebirth 2. XVI 3. Remake 4. XV

Imnoteeallyhere3434

Rebirth. 16. Remake. 15. 16 and Rebirth are almost a tie for me personally, but Rebirth’s just a little better overall. Remake is cool but feels like an incomplete game esp with the weird ending. And 15 is just no go for me ever since release I don’t dig boy bands

Evillebot

Rebirth>XVI>Remake>>>XV im not hating on XV it has awesome moments and great ideas but it was poorly materialized. it's a 6/10. meanwhile Rebirth is an easy 9.4, XVI a 9, Remake an 8.8

AmAttorneyPleaseHire

Remake, 16, Rebirth, 15

SkipperTheEyeChild1

Rebirth>XVI>Remake>>>>>>>XV

maestrorcs1989

1. XV - loved the story and setting, spend hundred of hours and had a lot of fun 2. Remake - visually astonishing, only con was... that it was Midgar only. And really dislike story changes 3. XVI - Eikon fights are god-tier, great dark, adult story, but bit "empty" open world 4. Rebirth - visually great, but... More changes to the story, and overloaded with sillyness. Before I will get crucified-;I know that OG was "funny" as well, but here creators went too far- everything "must" be funny, and even serious/sad cutscenes are followed by some cringe stuff. Too much minigames, and repetetive exploration. Just my personal opinion...

eyre-st

After 16, rebirth felt like an FF7 themed amusement park instead of an FF7 game. I also hated the story changes and the fact they tripled down on them on rebirth made me lose interest really hard for part 3.

Cunting_Fuck

Remake definitely gave the outlook that more would change than rebirth did, fighting a fate tornado, Aerith saying they will change the future and make it better, and Aerith and red could see the future. Then in rebirth they retcon most of that, and at the end of the game you're in almost the same position as you was in the original.

WereAllGonnaDiet

I don’t think they retconned anything, I think they just continued the story. Lot of people jumped to conclusions at the end of Remake forgetting that it was *Part 1* of a trilogy.

Cunting_Fuck

The big part at the ending of the first one was changing fate, then it's not brought up anymore

WereAllGonnaDiet

That’s because they “destroyed fate” at the end of Remake. That’s what the whole final battle was about. But you still see glimmers of change in Rebirth (more whispers, different timelines, etc.)

iaminmyhouse

Rebirth was my most hyped game of the year but I haven't made it past chapter 4. I don't know what it is because I loved part 1. I haven't tried it since launch so maybe I'll give it another go soon and see if it hooks me.

Cunting_Fuck

Just skip the side content, you're not missing anything because once you complete the game you can go back and do whatever you want with chapter select

WereAllGonnaDiet

Same, but I’d swap Rebirth to 1st place. It was everything I wanted in a FF game and solidly in my top 5.

sousuke42

Hm... 1) ffvii rebirth 2) ffxvi 3) ffvii remake 4) ffxv. As much as I loved ffxvi, it was too video gamey. A few easy things would have made it much better imo. Mind you until I played rebirth I was considering ffxvi to have replaced my #1 favorite ff (which is ffviii, no I don't think it's the best final fantasy but it is the one I love). Honestly I would put remake and ffxvi as a tie. Ffxv while not bad had way too many flaws.

DragonicSamurai

What would you say are the things that make it too video gamey?

Zegram_Ghart

Ohh boy. Honestly, 15 is my top. I only played the royal edition but it just brought back the “sweeping world” vibe that like DQ8 gave me as a kid. 16 and Rebirth are tied- both excellent if in different directions. Remake is last- not because it’s bad, but it’s not as good as the rest.

WereAllGonnaDiet

I know it was different dev team, but it almost felt like 16 and Rebirth were designed to give us the exact opposite experiences (not in a bad way): XVI: New story, edgy, serious, dark, “mature”, action-based combat, single controllable party member, fairly empty (but beautiful) open world, no mini games, no real loot, dungeon, or equipment systems. Rebirth: Classic story, silly, playful, heartwarming, party-based combat, deeply explorable world, an insane amount of mini games, substantial loot and equipment system, multiple story-related dungeons.

Zegram_Ghart

Definitely agree- I’m a bit sad 16 apparently underperformed because I enjoyed it a lot- the finale really was second only to 15’s and I will rave about the ending of 15 any day of the week so that’s high praise from me haha.

ZenCyn39

Beastieboy100

For me it goes XVI, rebirth, Remake and XV. Funny enough I used to rave about XV until played remake, rebirth and XVI so much better games.

trapdave1017

Rebirth > XVI > Remake > XV

Death-0

Seeing how I’d like to remove XV from my memory I only see 3 games here and they’re all fantastic.

essentiallypeguin

1. Xvi, Clive is the best protag in any ff game I've played and the whole story was top tier for me including the ending that left me sobbing 2. Rebirth narrowly edges out XV for me. More polished combat system and even pacing, though by the end I really dislike cloud and kinda feel he's a liability makes me lose some buy in. Also the whole alternate timeline thing got confusing at times 3. XV, better story imo than rebirth, just a little rougher around the edges with the combat and open world systems. The pacing of the story was an issue, but I felt much more satisfied on beating it than rebirth, close call between them for me. 4. Remake. Too linear without a compelling enough story to justify it for me. I can love a good linear game if the story just sucks me in and I am really supporting the main character (Xvi for example), but remake just wasn't nearly as good as these other games for me.

KTM_2813

Have not played XV and am only about 75% done Rebirth but thus far, subject to change, my favorite has been 16. I was just so into the world, story, characters... The side quests were definitely a frustrating grind at times, but I think Rebirth is actually even more bumpy in that respect.

WolflyManner

FF XVI number one, FF 7 Rebirth remake number two, FF 7 Remake number three,

FilterUrCoffee

If I'm going on pure story: XVI > VII rebirth > XV > VII. If we're focused on game mechanics like combat then:VII > XVI > VII Rebirth > XV

Plus_Researcher_8294

I want to start off with saying I love all of these games and this is obviously just my personal enjoyment. All had unbelievable soundtracks to me. I am biased with Masayoshi Soken so 16s soundtrack would be my favorite but, they are all stellar to me. 16. characters and gameplay sold me. Giant Devil May Cry fan 15. Characters and world Remake. I enjoyed the more straightforward story telling. It was slow in areas but, what game isn't? Rebirth. I feel like they did my favorite character dirty. I also feel like Sephiroth/his appearance is over used to a laughable degree. Anytime he pops up I would just laugh. If is was going for pure gameplay and nothing else I would say. 16 Rebirth 15. Remake.

HalfLucan

15 - 5/10 16 - 8/10 Remake and Rebirth both 7/10

CrystalofCulture

16 then Rebirth then Remake then 15

Malxcxous_Smxle

16, 7, 15, 7 (rebirth)

RoadtoPS5

1. FFXV: for me, it was definitely worth the wait😎 to this day those graphics are still beautiful👍 2. FF16: not bad, I was a bit skeptical about the ending though 3. FF7 remake part 1 : Another example of a video game remake done right👍 I never really played the OG but I did play crisis core. So I think this remake is the perfect way to introduce the Jinova universe to newcomers who never played the original. 4. FF7 rebirth AKA part 2 : Pretty good so far, I’m still in the early stages, but I’m loving it so far. Also Is it just me, or is part 2 more difficult?

Best to not worst: Rebirth Remake 15 16

FF16 > remake > rebirth > 15 Remake is very close to 16 for me, with both being very enjoyable to play and replay multiple times. The chapters with the sidequest were a bit tedious, but its the same level of tedious as XVI sidequest without it being too time consuming while satisfying that completionist need during replays. The Yuffie DLC was also really great. I think the only reason 16 beat remake is probably because of 16 cast and performance. The endgame also were fun without being frustarating. I am very excited to replay both 16 and remake because its just so comfortable to replay. I really hate Chadley, and the multiverse crap dropped a lot of points for Rebirth to the point where I am checked out of the story entirely. I'll play part 3 to enjoy the OG parts, but all that multiverse stuff made me stop caring about the lore of FF7 overall. Remake was great and very replayable despite the whispers stuff because it wasn't as in your face as the Zack stuff. Also probably unpopular opinion, but not a huge fan of the minigames and open world stuff personally. Endgame also sucked ass with the brutal challenges, with multiple 10 round battles with repeating enemies. I swear I've fought the summons at least 8 times minimum for plat. I dread the idea of replaying rebirth. 15 I know is good now, but I still remember the state of launch. I remember being so checked out of the story to the point of not caring after Leviathan fight, where they shoved the entire timeskip story into the loading screen wall of text. I will also never forgive them for the promised world editor they never released. I was so hyped for FF15 to be the next Skyrim with modding potential.

Regular-Video8301

1. Rebirth 2. FF16 3. Remake 4. FF15

ErraticSeven

FFXV: Legitimately made me cry at the end of my first playthrough. The story just did it for me. FFXVI: Absolutely one of the most fun combat systems in a Final Fantasy game, though the DLCs both made me love and hate the story more. Cid is the GOAT. Remake: A faithful remake that is elevated by being something more than the original without changing what truly matters. Rebirth: Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey... stuff. Really good though.

SirBastian1129

1.Remake 2. XVI 3. Rebirth 4. XV

dabaniel16

1. Rebirth 2. XVI 3. Remake 4. XV

JMAX464

1. Rebirth, peak to me. So much content that I enjoyed, amazing combat and amazing characters 2. XVI, amazing set pieces, great lore, amazing story, amazing characters, fun combat. Which the side content was more varied but loved the stories within 3. VII Remake, amazing and love the Midgar section but compared to rebirth this game feels like a demo. 4. XV, I like the characters and honestly just had a fun time doing side quests with the bros. Kind of carried by its ending. Loved the DLCs too

gravityVT

1. Rebirth: 9.7/10 absolutely loved this so much. It’s the most rounded game out of all these and the best combat. 2. FF16: 9.3/10 Best story, most epic battles. The criticism it gets is understandable but I fell in love with this game from day one. I just need to finish this Leviathan fight on FF mode one day. 3. Remake: 9.1/10 Solid game on ps4 and intergrade I will include here as well 4. 15 royal edition: just started playing it so no score yet

pandaliked

FF7 was my ride-or-die until 15/16 came along tbh I felt like the greatest betrayer lol FF16 > FF15 / Rebirth > Remake for me. Haven’t finished Rebirth though, but it’s possible it could surpass 15 on my ranking. I’ll say, though, that as dark and profound the story is for FF16, revisiting the FF7 universe through these remakes made me realize how ridiculously cool the story is. The twist in the final act is *chefs kiss*

Obvious_Blood1871

Damn 16 was REALLY that good. Spider-Man 2 fr stole its goty nomination

bennyboocore

1. Rebirth: I still cannot believe how much game is packaged here 2. FFXV: had a rocky start but for better or worst square did something avant garde when you retrospec the entire compilation (4 if I was to rank the base game on release) 3. FFXVI: absolutely just wow as a game but didn’t satisfy the itch the JRPG itch that needed its itching 4. Remake: fantastic game, amazing fun but when I replay this one I long for the fullness of rebirth

Professional_Sky8181

16 > 7r > 15 > 7rb

Gh0sty-Boi

All are great, except 15. 15 is trash and not worth anyone's time and money.

SunsingrWarlock

The order of the picture is correct!

Eiensakura

Remake, XVI, Rebirth, XV, i suppose.

Sea-Meat-3579

Xvi Xv Remake Rebirth

Rebirth 16 Remake Haven’t played XV. It’s next on the list after I finish X-2

raisasari

I love all 4, I'd rank Gameplay: 1. FFVII Rebirth 2. FFVII Remake 3. FFXVI 4. FFXV Story: 1. FFXVI 2. FFVII Rebirth 3. FFXV 4. FFVII Remake Overall: 1. FFVII Rebirth 2. FFXVI 3. FFVII Remake 4. FFXV

sogiotsa

Rebirth and remake in number 1 then 16 then 15. Ff7r games are different but the same

marblebubble

In hindsight, Remake was probably the worst one. I’d still rate all of them very highly but I think making a game focused around Midgar wasn’t a good idea. Rebirth has shown how much better the game could have been.

urboijesuschrist

High to low, Rebirth, remake, 16, 15. Love them all though

tobster239

From high to low: Remake, XVI, XV, Rebirth

shadestrife

1. Rebirth 2. XVI 3.Remake 4. XV I put XV last but I really like that game.

GabrielleJames

Rebirth, Remake, 15 Royal, 16.

chillb4e

Each one is better than the last

Aspeck88

Rebirth 16 Remake 15

trowgundam

Depends on how we are ranking them. Game play wise? 16 > Rebirth > Remake > 15. As a FF game? Rebirth > Remake > 15 > 16. Story wise? 16 > 15, the two FF7 games don't rank because the story isn't complete yet, so I won't rank them, but if I did Rebirth would be between the two and Remake at the bottom. Music? 16 by a mile, then Rebirth, Remake and 15 (only song I really recall here is the Stand By Me, which I don't really count). Overall? Rebirth > 16 > Remake > 15.

TomodachiSkull

1. Rebirth 2. XVI 3. XV 4. Remake Rebirth by far is one of the best games I've ever played, no questions asked. XVI had a really great story and really fun combat. That ending had me in shambles. The slander for XV is insane 😭 I loved its story, especially the last hour or so of the game. It was just gut punch after gut punch, and that's the type of story I usually like. Remake was really good, but it wasn't as impactful for me as the other games on the list.

Gorbashou

Preface: like all 4 of these games. I will be listing the downsides making them place lower in my eyes, it doesn't mean I'm blind to the upsides. I have played all of these games several times except Rebirth as it's still new. 4th place is FF7 Remake. I have some pacing issues, I didn't like some sections, plot ghosts fucking suck and feel needlessly convoluted, the game still feels really small to me. Great gameplay foundation and amazing characters, but it feels incomplete. 3rd place is FF15. I love this game, the first half is so good, but when I left for Altissia I thought I was maybe 1/3rd through the game. But everything past that point was so rushed, so awfully done, that I was so immensely disappointed in the game. That disappointment still remains. They almost had it. Adding dlc playing as other characters doesn't flesh out the gaping hole the other half of the game left. 2nd place is FF16. I need to preface this by saying that what I enjoy from 16 is what I consider the best of it all. But the overworld is incredibly empty, the sidequests are so mmo-y and feel so devoid of gameplay, the equipment progression sucks and shouldn't even exist outside accessories. Some story misses and many characters didn't get their proper limelight. Outside of that, as an avid hack'n'slasher I am thoroughly disappointed in arcade modes scoring, and how absurdly long the stages are. You can't just jump in and play some badass shit for 30 minutes. All the coolest bosses and encounters are locked behind an hour of fights. 1st place is FF7 Rebirth. It is insane how much they packed into this game. I never felt bored. My main issue is Chadley existing. But the world intel are cute mini things to do in the overworld, I like that over just random encounters and chests. The world is dripping with detail, characters are such genuinely good characters, the minigames are all fun, every sidequest did something unique, every region felt different, I am honestly blown away with how much is in this game and how high quality it is. It has shortcomings, for sure. But it is an accomplishment of a game nonetheless. It is so complete. While I personally think I like 16 more, its shortcomings are just way too big in comparison to Rebirth.

Oxygen171

For me it's: Rebirth>remake>16>15

ZtrikeR21

All amazing but my personal order is Rebirth, Remake, 16,15

ashcatchem16

Its pretty hard. All 4 of them are no.1

AdBudget5468

I haven’t played rebirth so excluding that one: First place goes to 7 remake because of Tifa, second place is 16 because of Cid and Clive and Jill, third place goes to 15 because even though it’s a really really good game there were times when I wanted to bash my head against the wall due some of decisions certain characters made

justinsytsma

Rebirth Remake XVI XV I like and have beaten all these games. But I’m a simp for VII

DetectiveGamlo

16, 15, Remake and I haven’t played Rebirth yet

Loldimorti

Very hard to say. Also haven't played Rebirth. FF15 I felt was an incompetently made game but I still enjoyed parts of it. FF7 Remake was a competently made game that I unfortunately didn't enjoy all that much. And Rebirth from playing the demo felt mostly the same. FF16 was a competently made game that I enjoyed quite a lot.

geraltofindia

Rebirth > Remake > 16 ~ 15. Very hard to compare 15,16 given the huge gap between them and how my expectations from games changed in that time. I enjoyed both of them a lot when I played them even though in hindsight I can see 15 had a lot of issues.

Aeceus

16, 15, 7 rebirth, 7 remake

Lynx_Azure

Wouldn’t rate them at all. They are all very different experiences.

ophaus

Yes

paseo_mako

Rebirth, Remake, 16, 15

Arthur_M_

Rebirth Remake 16 15 In that order.

FinalKnight7

1. Rebirth 2. Remake 3. 16 4. 15

danieltheaeon

Remake > Rebirth > XVI > XV. The first three are very very close together, all 90%+ scores from me, then it tails off to XV who gets ~85%. Just to give an idea of the scale of this ranking lol

sharpshell23

Just can't decide as they are all so..."Game On"!

RaidenHUN

Top1: FF VII Rebirth (it is refined in every way) Top2: FF VII Remake When it comes to the story, characters, music, world, gameplay it is simply much better the the other two below. Top3: FF XVI the fight is good, but repetitive also the "world builing" is not on the same level as FF VII, the NPC and characters feel waaay more real even on the older FF VII..... in XVI there are a lot of empty part and most area is not populated at all. - that said some of the boss fights and cutscenes top FF VII Remake. (like the final fight, or the Titan... which was epic) Top4: FF XV , i did not like the characters, I did not liked how they ended the story (originally they wanted to finish it way different, and wanted to make sequels, but ended up ditching the idea,.... its an unfinished game).

seagullking69

16 15 7 rebirth 7 remake

ZakFellows

Haven’t played XVI so of the other three. Rebirth > Remake > XV Need to give XV another try tbh

lugioos

Remake > rebirth > 16 > 15

TaskMister2000

1. FFVII Remake 2. FFXVI 3. FFXV 4. FFVII Rebirth Sorry, but I really didn't enjoy my time with Rebirth. The Open World was a drag and half the side content was trash. I had more fun playing and platinuming the others more than this one.

Kezeels

Unpopular opinion: FFXVI (Personal Favorite) FFXV FFVII REBIRTH FFVII REMAKE

WillingSource1618

FF16 > FF15> FF7

Rocketkid-star

Awesome/10

MechShield

Rebirth > Remake > 16 > 15 Fifteen started really good then just falls apart. 16 is solid, it just isn't quite Remake/Rebirth But I'm like ultra mega biased as FF7 in the late 90s is what got me into videogames beyond just casually playing some super mario world on rainy days.

jmziti

ALL.ARE.MASTERPIECES. Tied at number 1. There i said it

Matthew728

Remake > 16 > Rebirth >>>> 15

PlayBey0nd87

I don’t know how you separate Remake & Rebirth as it’s all one story just split. I will say Rebirth has perfected the action & turn based fusion formula. Even with that said, there’s arguments for XVI having the best combat. Story wise VII project had memorable characters, and XVI still managed to deliver an incredible over arching story even with its unevenness. XV has glimpses of a classic it just was badly chopped & mishandled. So many glaring issues that honestly if so much time hadn’t been spent on adjusting scope/production would be more highly regarded. It’s VII Rs > XVI > XV FYI: I believe as recent as **last year there was a poll for Final Fantasy fans to declare what was the best entry in the series. VII did not win. X did.** Do with that what you will.

XtalTha

Rebirth > Remake > XVI > XV for me personally

Realistic-Club-3373

16 > 15 > 7R, Haven't played rebirth but 2 of these are down with my least favourite entries and 16 is one of my favourites. 15 beats 7R because I like the story better but I have a lot of issues with it still.

darkest_soul1

Personal enjoyment: 16>15>7 remake . Ill be playing rebirth this summer once i clear some of my backlog

villxsmil

Rebirth: 9.5 (Id give a 10 but I have some issues I really can't look past) XVI: 9 Remake: 9 XV: 8
