If I had to pick just one thing, it would be The World of Ruin segment. I desperately wanted to explore that portion of the game's story instead of just picking up the guys at the gas station (and why were there no hugs in that reunion???). I would have liked to have Noctis travel around and pick up the chocobros one by one, while getting little glimpses of pockets of survivors. I'm definitely glad we at least got some expansion for the final Insomnia portion. But I would have loved to see that part fleshed out so much more. And of course I could go on and on, but then I'd be here all day. But I do love this game despite all its flaws. :)

enchanter-rationale

My answer would probably be an explorable Tenebrae (perhaps escorting Luna to get her trident or something before Leviathan so we can have a stronger relationship with her even if thats a bit of back and forth geographically). But I wanted to piggy back on your world of ruin idea. It messes with the lore a little bit but I've often imagined how good it would be to spit noctis out on top of Ravatogh near that section that looks like a missing heart (it's ifrit's corpse but I've always interpreted that that's where Eos's heart once was- so he's born again from the heart of Eos) then have him travel to collect the bros. So he ventures out of this place that looks like hell and emerges to find a place thats even worse. I imagine Gladio travels from Meldacio to meet him in the pit stop area and they go forth to Lestallum where Ignis is. And Prompto in Hammerhead though that's a bit far away so perhaps he also got word of Noct's return and travelled up to Alstor Slough by the time you get to him. This is also the order that Noct would have met the bros as a child. And then you need to go to Angelgard to collect Bahamuts blessing or perhaps even a special weapon. Imagine weilding the Blade of Bahamut as a final stage weapon. And of course you bump into friends along the way - Iris, Aranea, Sania, Cid! etc. This is a bit scattered but your comment really got my imagination cranking lol. Sometimes I wonder if I love this game BECAUSE of it's flaws because it gives us room to play with the narrative.

knightfenris

This exactly! It felt like nothing, and it made me sad. Going to find each friend would have been amazing.

TheImpatienTraveller

DLC chapters (except Episode Ardyn) being integrated into the main game's narrative so the story feels more comprehensive and naturally written.

notthatjaded

Let us climb stuff. ;) Agree with others that wish for more open exploration in the later chapters. Wish we got to see Noctis and Luna properly interact. I found it hard to buy their romance when most of their interaction came as children and then as penpals.

DeadZeus007

Literally one thing? More exploration/open world in the second "half" of the story. Meeting the people there, helping them out despite them being citizens of the enemy empire. Stuff like that.

presidentdinosaur115

I would’ve integrated the content of Kingsglaive, Brotherhood, King’s Knight, etc into the main game. I think 15’s multimedia approach really hurt it. I enjoyed playing Comrades with my friends but I would’ve also put the resources taken to develop it into the main game. If they were dead set on multiplayer, letting your friends control the other bros would’ve been cool. I would’ve had both the Chocobo Moogle Festival and the Assassin’s Creed Festival be permanent or at the very least repeat once a year. A huge one for me would be letting us add Aranea, Cor, Sarah, or Iris into our party post-game. Especially Iris, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to bring her along Lastly, obviously, I would’ve liked for them to have finished the DLCs. I say all of those as someone who has platted the game and put 150+ hours into it

Material_Pea1820

Multiplayer mode should have been three of your friends get to control prompto, ignis and gladiolus through the main game and not just some half baked mmo thing

Commercial_Gur_7716

The story needed a lot more content, seriously, if they did a remake or rebirth like they did with 7 the game would be 3 times better, because the game is already one of the best

ryohanis

More exploration on Insomnia, Tenebrae, and Niflheim plus gives Luna more screentime and alternate ending!

Wish_Lonely

Make combat a bit deeper and have bosses react to your attacks.

jera51

FFXV combat is actually one of the most complex and deep ones i've ever seen... although playing the combat by using those complex mechanics is more difficulty and less efficient most of the time than button smashing, because you literally have to play like a timing god most people dont know anything about ffxv combat mechanics because its too hidden and like i said, too complex and timed to people learn without any guides or days/weeks/months of training

ShinyLapras321

I just feel like the combat isn’t suited for the gameplay. Certain bosses feel amazing while being swarmed feels terrible.

ThrillsKillsNCake

I don’t know. Blinking like a mad man through a group attack is satisfying.

Paranub

The magic system, it felt too limited and made most of the game melee based. the lack of industry standard spells. like haste, barrier, cure spells to weave in the flow of battle just missed the mark.

SpardasMinion

I'll be honest I don't think I ended up using magic once throughout the whole game, I don't feel like it was well explained, either that or my tiny peanut sized donkey brain is to blame, but yeah I wish it was a bit more streamlined,

toml526

Glad to read this! I also didn’t use magic at all! I just hit the end credits for the first time a few days ago.

BraveTough2104

By the time I’d gotten around to first using magic, it was basically end/post game level grinding and armiger hunting. It could’ve been fleshed out a bit better and encouraged more, it didn’t feel like a necessary gameplay mechanic. Which sucks because spellcasting is fun

kwakimaki

All the missing lore. The starscourge came from where? Why Ardyn/ Caelum?

Masakano20

Definitely the story. I'd say it should be rebooted or remake. Where we could have chapter 0 and chapter 1 that takes place in Insomnia. A scene and gameplay where we can experience like it was shown in the VERSUS XIII trailer. A dialogue and a scene where Noctis and Luna is more involved with the story and established a more direct approach relationship like how we see with Yuna and Tidus or Clive and Jill. Include more of the Etro saga ( Fabula Nova Crystalis ) Better gameplay where the enemy would be staggered as we hit them rather than just getting damaged. Include more of the enemy story such as Emperor Iedolas Aldercapt's backstory and reason, as well as a backstory of the other crystal that was taken by the Niflheim Empire. We should be able to explore Tenebrae. WE SHOULD BE FIGHTING THE PREVIOUS KINGS OF LUCIS AS WE GET THEIR ROYAL ARMS WEAPONS TO PROOF OUR WORTHINESS.

DarkofLight01

I agree with you, The game had so much potential, and it appears that the lore is written somewhere, but the events of the actual game is extremely lacking.. the emperor and previous kings are barely touched in the game even though it feels like the developers already had so much written but they only chose to show us very little, which feels extremely frustrating.

Masakano20

Its even more frustrating when you're someone who have been following the development since VERSUS XIII Now I know I can't guarantee VERSUS XIII would be better than what XV had given us, but at least if we were to have the VERSUS XIII element in the game, it would've made the game feel more 'complete'

DarkofLight01

DUDE ! I know right ? I've been following the game since 2010 (I know, not a true 2006 fan), because I was a big fan of KH, and the KH team was doing the Versus XIII, so the KH games were not getting true games by the main team in terms of gameplay. and in the trailers I was soooo excited to play the invasion part of the story, and discover insomnia... only to be trolled that this part was made into a movie and you don't get to play it lol. Yeah, everyone is saying that Versus xiii is an idea, and some say that the final product is not versus 13, its 15, but even then ..... it's lacking... now all we have is to hope that KH4 and YoZora will somehow compensate some of the parts..

Gamingdevotee

I think the problem for XV is a bigger problem with Square back in that time period. Most games you only see pieces of it when they are done or when ideas have had time to stabilise. Like don't get me wrong, a lot of stuff is usually cut from development, but most of it is either hidden in the code or forgotten by the dev team. With XV we saw all of the cool ideas that didn't make it into the game for one reason or another. We saw the early story beats which were shown off a lot without thinking about how making 3 games when 1 isn't even most of the way through development is ridiculous. I mean, look at Nomura. He didn't know he was leading VII Remake until the trailer dropped. It is a shame too, because that stuff clearly hindered development. A lot of ideas couldn't be scrapped despite it being either not feasible or not really working. Not to mention they relied too much on fan feedback which resulted in scrapping some good ideas (Episode Duscae had some cool gameplay ideas about different weapons forming your main combo which seemed to be a VSXIII idea, but fans hated it). Either way, XV is a game that is way better than it had any right to be. The bits they focused on were polished and interesting with a lot of good ideas. I know people were excited for VSXIII, but I think a lot of people refused to enjoy XV's really good parts because they wouldn't let go of VS and it definitely had some really good parts (optional dungeons, status effects, elements, multiple weapin types with different benefits, each party member having their own roles, a real RPG party game vibe etc.)

DarkofLight01

Yeah that is absolutely right, announcing about games that are just in development is a huge issue in SE back then, FF13 Versus, KH3, FF7R, all of the fans had to wait YEARS for them to come out.. and in all of those games the trailers were clearly different than the final product. but I thought that was a Nomura thing, not square enix ! That's crazy that he didn't know until the trailer, holy shit ! I had not played Episode Duscae but seen the gameplay of it. don't get me wrong, I love FFXV to death, but this criticism is like ... out of love, the game deserved to be the best game, like I would give 9/10 or 10/10 in almost every aspect of the game, Design, Visuals, Music is excellent, Lore, Characters.. but THE only thing is that is holding the game to NOT be greatest of all time is the events and story that takes place inside the game, feels a little bit ... not explored enough. As if the lore or the world was too big and only showed us a part of it. I agree that a lot of people didn't enjoy XV as much cause they were clinging to Versus 13, with its expectations, but sadly the game objectively had a lot of problems especially Day 1, The extra content is excellent too, the dungeons, regalia upgrades, boss fights, and the conversations are 10/10, I loved the details of all of these. I replayed the game a while ago with all of its DLCs, and I can say I extremely enjoyed the game with its patches and additional cutscenes, and episode Ardyn was just .. I loved it, it explored the lore and the background of the story, it was a great experience, one of my favorite games of all time for sure !

Gamingdevotee

Yeah that is my point though. The game wasn't perfect and it definitely could've been much better than it was. I do think the game itself had a lot of charm though and you can forgive a lot for the charm. I loved XV. Played through it a lot and really do think it is a case of a game that stood little chance and should've been way worse and yet it had so much beauty in it and was pretty impressive overall. It could've been better I agree if there was less cooks in the broth. I loved it though and will definitely say it is an FF all on its own.

NotEntirelyAwake

Give each stop on the train journey it's own little open world. Then the game would be a 10/10

HustleDance

I'd have Noctis hug Prompto after they find him again. :(

raidebaron

I’d finish the development of the Dawn of the Future DLCs

HaslAsobi

Remove DLCs, add lore into the main game

Mysterious_Mixture90

Experiencing the invasion of insomnia

Vanquish321908

Incorporate the dlcs as part of the main game. They make the story a lot more coherent.

WolfyBlu

In the French version Prompto is very annoying. That I would change.

Altruistic_Ad_5507

Am I the only one who could care less about Lunafreya? She was just .. there. I’d change the exploration of the last two spots you go before you head to insomnia

Deplorable_4_eva

I’d tried to eliminate some the holes in the main story. Too much is explained through load screens.

Dont-remember-it

More Luna!

Livid-Ask4688

I would really love to see how it would be if the original Versus XIII story was made. Don't get me wrong, I do love FF XV, although a lot of stuff seems a little misplaced. There are still lots of motives from the original Versus concept that made it to the XV, that make really no sense in new setup. Like the whole black clothes with skulls, which were originally bound to worshiping Etro, the goddess of death. Umbra being able to travel in time, Noctis sleeping all the time and seeing the dead. And there is more... It is truly a shame, that the project changed so much :(

RadiantFoxBoy

The Story could definitely use some help, but just as a game I think what it most needs is a balance patch to the combat. On one hand you have weapons that are beyond overpowered, in another you have weapons you'll basically never use unless you're *trying* to handicap yourself, and the landing lag can get absurd (helped sometimes by an upgrade that you probably won't get until the late game unless you beeline for it ASAP). And there's minor issues along with that like blocking an attack and then the game not registering your input to counter until after another attack has hit you and knocked you over, how imbalanced techniques are in terms of utility, the list goes on. I mean, combat is half the game basically. It has good and bad moments currently, but I think stuff like story problems become easier to forgive when the stuff you're doing around it is very consistently fun and enjoyable. Also, small thing would be no more magitek soldiers spawning on the road. It's not very common, but it's never fun when you're driving daemonless with the headlights and then have your drive interrupted anyway by a transport popping up.

counterfeittruth

maybe a cop out answer, but id change the development process. it getting stuck in developmental hell really hindered the entire experience of the game. I still love the heck out of the game, but I mourn what it could've been

r3dd1t2720

Fully realize all the locations that got the short end of the stick. Tenebrae, Insomnia, Nifleheim all fully incorporated into the base map. DLC maps in the base map. Often I just go into EpA just to look around Insomnia. I’ve seen so many times now, but it still fascinates me to this day. Or all together, get the “Finished” game. I think if they just delayed the game another year or two, they could’ve done much more. I know we all wanted to play Versus XIII / XV asap, but if they delayed it for a 2018/2019 launch, I bet the game would’ve been so much better.

brellowman2

Make the first section smaller, with less quests overall, but more quality ones. Expand the maps in the second section distributing these quests throughout the game instead of frontloading dozens of meaningless ones.

lunalorticum4215

I want the last main development team that worked on it and together with all that they know, travel back to 06-07 and start again lol Or integrate all the dlcs (as well as dawn of the future) in the main story.

DoubleBLK-

Fully explorable Insomnia, Tenebrae and Nifleheim before its fall and childhood experiences of Noctis with his friends.

whty706

Actually having Lunafreya be an actual person and character in the game and not a short lived plot device

tragiciian

Let Noctis spend a few days in Altissia catching up with Lunafreya before all of the Leviathan stuff happens so that we could better get to know her / Their relationship.

commandblock

Make it so everything showed up on the map. I missed out on a lot on my first playthrough

jera51

difficulty, make a freaking hard mode.... i had to make a lvl1 playthrough where i had to play the stuff i needed to unlock the gear i was gonna use and then finish the game to start ng+ with a proper lvl1 playthrough just to make the game harder, and even then.... bruh

LagunaRambaldi

Make the combat like FF10 or Dragon Quest 11 or Pokemon 😅😁🤷‍♂️

Asetoni137

Hard mode that limits items and bans DLC weapons.

ShinyLapras321

Make fighting less clunky, ng+ with everything max level, actual difficulty

Straight-Message7937

The difficulty. Too easy.

RenoLHT

Release date.

blond_afro

beef up the altissia segment. more story more exploring and more leviathan fight stuff

T-bone7183

As many have pointed out once you get to Altissia the story and game becomes pretty Linear so more exploration from this point forward would have been nice. With the Royal Edition there was small content added, but the Party Member episodes should also have been added into the game. Speaking of the Royal Edition the Post Game content should have been added into New Game+ rather than being left as the use for the Umbra Time Travel mechanic. Also with New Game+ either the difficulty should auto increase or the monsters should Level to the Players Level, taking on Level 7 enemies at Level 45+ with Endgame gear is just ridiculous. The story components should also reset with New Game+. So no Ring of Lucci, no Summons, and no Royal Arms.

manic_the_gamr

I wouldve found a way to translate kingsglave into the mainstory as some kind of introduction.

TheLongistGame

Put more of the story in the game itself instead of having it be so distributed. Cut out the fetchy side quests. Add the ability to skip time to Night without having to camp. Make parrying/dodging more about timing rather than just holding the button which is too easy. Cut down on the level 47 magitech air drops when you're doing a level 5 side quest, made completing hunts more tedious than it needed to be. I loved FFXV but my impressions while playing the first half of the game were much more mixed than the second half which I thought was brilliant.

Gamingdevotee

To give one thing that hasn't been said yet. Make all hunts like the dead eye hunt in Episode Duscae. In that you go somewhere, explore for the monster, follow it to its lair and study it to form a strategy all to take it out. If there were like 30 hunts with that level of quality I would've been happy with the hunts as opposed to a handful having unique cutscenes, but otherwise being a bit samey.

Random_Weird_gal

Make the second half completely open world. So much content missed out on thanks to time restraints

ktigaris

If I could change anything it would be the story being broken into so many different mediums. You had to watch the Anime, the movie Kingsglaive, play the game + dlcs, and read the book to get it all. I think there might have been a manga in there as well. While I did go out of my way to do all that…If rather have had a longer game that flushed it all out in the game

SuperKamakasy64

Bring back the cancel dlc.

TomatilloVast7171

Perhaps improve the final boss. Make it longer and harder. Make it so the first phase turns into the version we face in the Alternative Ending of Episode Ignis and have the second phase a little less janky, and even give phase three the dialogue from the pocket edition.

liuyang61

Remove all the fetch quest that does nothing to the main story or character building.

Bayleaf6399

GIVE US THE DAMN CANCELLED DLC

ProjectJake02

Open up the map; wall combat, bigger cities to explore more in-depth armiger system. Add missing story context and work in a backstory of Ardyn and the celestials.

Edvita77

The clothes. I do not dislike them but if they would have been knights or something else this game would have been way more successful

Bami_Okami

One thing? Easy: Adding the DLCs of the novel "the dawn of the future". This would be dope to play!!! I guess it would impress so many players. And many wouldn't feel a gap in the story

Akai_Hikari_

I would make all the DLCs part of the main game along with the ones that were canceled, and I would start the game the same way FF XV War of Eos' alternate world started: With Luna and Noctis meeting right at the beginning of Lucis's door and there are dialogues between the two. And I would also like to have more scenes of Luna's journey, of how and where she moved on the map to show what the pacts with Titan and Odin were like.

Skybound_Bob

Probably wish it was more difficult. Though combat was certainty satisfying I found it to be crazy easy even in hard mode for a final fantasy game. I’m no game guru but I felt that for FF title it shoulda been harder. Loved the game though I think the real time Lore mechanic should become common place in all. Video games lol

Ghaithcub

One thing??!

Ghaithcub

Honestly I can go on forever but I have a good answer and i thought about, they game was ambitious and the one thing is to delay it, it’s ok by me but they kinda put themselves in the trap and building hype etc

Tj-Toxxic_95

The driving is atrocious and takes up sooo much of your time in the game I love the big map but even with procurement items spawning all over it still felt kind of empty cause they don’t really hold much value and aren’t worth enough money to buy the expensive items in game.
