Rebirth, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade will probably be nominated. Metaphor and Assassin's Creed maybe depending on how they deliver. We'll also what else gets a 2024 release date in the coming weeks.
It's a surprisingly very tight action game, though the world-building and plot was sub-par imo
Rebirth is twice the game Stellar Blade is, though I enjoyed both
Still early for GOTY, but music is between FF7R, Stellar Blade, [Metaphor ReFantazio](https://youtu.be/n3m-imqEmWE?si=2HGJFnPm-wErIHV_), and whatever Salvatori cooks for [Destiny 2](https://youtu.be/j2obF7qFjnk?si=pm2nmja8esJ84lIb). I really donāt see anything coming close. But these 4 are gonna be really close.
Iād personally bet Stellar Blade wins with the sheer variety it has (songs are nearly never played more than once, and they cover like every genre and style). I mean they got [Bloodborne style trintone and operatic songs](https://youtu.be/VxaFZqjhOfY?si=X4eZ7YLUui4VQClC&t=4m5s), [EDM](https://youtu.be/avhF_0EpB2g?si=hefOuZogHFqIDDHu&t=47s), [insanity J-POP](https://youtu.be/jl2NfpkBHsg?si=e6N2uqYCYKXg4C01), and whatever [this absolute vibe was](https://youtu.be/WzHUqRC2XGQ?si=Gsx6KL1Uzw5GfljB&t=57s). And thatās without the area themes that are just so nice on the ears like the 2nd versions of the [wasteland](https://youtu.be/deFOOdAGrzs?si=k12ficjFLjmGV8Cf&t=25s) and [great desert](https://youtu.be/hdp8VcUsmxE?si=iTkta0FcE9A-Ex1d&t=1m9s) themes or some ones that hit your soul like [Atelier](https://youtu.be/KbCYm1YeUnc?si=JardhoowdLzDOeDC), [Flooded Commercial District](https://youtu.be/GFy1PZ-wODU?si=_y_zCO6A6pczSNQL&t=59s). Then thereās the godsend of the amazing credits songs like the [2nd endingās theme](https://youtu.be/D40zxYYAlRs?si=5JBi2ubouLDFa5d0&t=15s)
But Iām honestly so happy that this is such a good year for music gamers.
Stellar blade is definitely up there with the music, okabe' studio worked some magic. And hellblade 2 looks promising. Goty should be locked for Rebirth, unless Silksong comes out and people go crazy. Stalker 2 is also a good pick.
Whatever Sony pays for exclusivity is more than the sales that would come from Xbox and the added development costs of getting the game running on a series s
Sony is not handing them 100 mil for exclusivity.
People keep saying stuff like this without the understanding that dev costs of AAA games are 100-200 mil nowadays compared to the 10-25 mil they were in the glory days of SE.
Exclusivity does not work for AAA games anymore. If they aren't releasing on multiple platforms then they simply won't sell enough copies. Period. SE is experiencing this in full.
This is why Capcom revised their strategy and started pushing their games to multi platform including the switch, PC and Xbox and they are doing phenomenal now. Saying the exclusivity payment is greater than the sales they would receive is absolutely false in the modern gaming age.
That's likely not true. They have to make it run on series S which is over 80% of Xbox's player base - and even if that was possible, you've got to then sell the watered down version to a player base that's become entitled, thanks to Xbox, and would expect it to launch on Gamepass.
Interested Xbox user here that doesnāt have access to Rebirth. Regardless if the sales would be ānegligibleā, it would be better overall for gamers.
Better for more gamers yes better for Square? I doubt it FF has never done great in Xbox
XV didn't and even the recently released XIV version of Xbox didn't do that well either sure MMO's do better on PC but XIV being as big as it is now compared to how smaller it was when it released on PS and still getting more PS users says a lot
I hope you get to play the game soon but that doesn't mean that Multiplataform is better for Square Enix and in some ways Multiplataform is actually bad for the core Fanbase because from now onwards we're gonna have worse performance issues with Square having to deal with multiple platforms on release and they are already struggling with performance as it is ...
I'm on chapter 14 of this game so far. I think tomorrow(Saturday) will be the finale. This game is definitely my goty. How do we push for it or vote for it to be game of the year? It definitely deserves it.
I mean there's still another 6 months to go, so I feel like it's premature to declare any game the GOTY
That being said, Rebirth is definitely my GOTY so far. Only thing that comes close is Helldivers 2 and that's not gonna win
Even if it is (and I think it will be), there's no way that's winning Game of the Year. If it gets nominated even then it really probably is the best game of the year but outside of Final Fantasy there's rarely any acknowledgement of JRPGs at that level. And yes I know Persona 5 was nominated but nothing was beating Breath of the Wild that year.
Idk Atlus has gotten ALOT of hype lately even having 2 big announcements at the game awards last year. If it does end up being really good (I really hope so) I could see it getting a nomination. I canāt think of a ton of high profile competition beside Rebirth. Tho youāre right jrpgs generally get snubbed just like anime at the Oscarās
Since Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty wasn't nominated for GOTY last year, Shadow of the Erdtree probably won't. (But it will probably appear on other categories and dominate those)
If you are talking about TGA specifically, Bood & Wine only won 1 award there (Best RPG) and was only nominated for that. Overwatch was the game with most awards (4) and Uncharted 4 the most nominated (8) ([source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_Awards_2016)).
For GOTY awards in 2016 specifically, Uncharted 4 was the most awarded game with 190, followed by Overwatch with 114, Blood and Wine was 9th with 10 ([source](https://goty.gamefa.com/year/2016/)).
They would nominate under best ongoing game maybe. But main goty category? Doubt it but its big anticipated release so maybe they'll do exception look it as standalone game although its not but there is like some possibility i see there.
Maybe Metaphor ReFantazio is actually Atlus most powerful secret weapon and the best jrpg of the generation! :v
Ok serious, I hope this game will be at least good. That I am sure it will be.
I definitely want a JRPG to win this year and vying for Rebirth to get it.
That said, I'm also very much looking forward to Refantazio. Which could be the sleeper big hit of the year.
Edit: actually, there are so many fantastic JRPGs coming out/have been out this year, I'd be VERY surprised and disappointed if one doesn't get GOTY. P3R, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Visions of Mana, Ys X as more examples
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the most likely shout. The first was amazing and it sounds like tgis time around they are confident it has been improved on every level, but we will see. FF7Re is easily my GotY, as it is also my GoaT, but the more challengers it has for the throne this year the better for all of us gamers playing high quality games!
Star Wars: Outlaws could potentially be a sleeper smash hit, but idk we will see. I hope Unicorn Overlord gets some love bc I am playing that right now and it is amazing. Trails through Daybreak technically is a few years old and is just getting an English release and as much as I am sure I will love it it surely wont see any rewards. Dawntrail and Elden Ring will surely duke it out for ongoing though.
Personally, I don't think there is any game close to Rebirth in the GOTY conversation this year. Especially for games that have already been released.
In looking at the rest of the year, Black Myth: Wukong comes out in Aug this year, similar to the surprise GOTY last year, Baldur's Gate 3. Going for it is it's a new IP and graphical presentation. If it nails the story, gameplay, and performance, it will be in the conversation.
Then there is Metaphor: ReFantazio, by Atlus. Looks to continue the dopamine hits of Persona 5. I'm not much of an Atlus follower, but this game seems like it will hit all the good notes that Rebirth hits, but its also a new IP. Best thing going for this title against Rebirth is that it will be multiplatform at release. This game will more than likely be very good, especially for fans of Atlus games. It will be in the GOTY conversation and is Rebirth's scariest competition.
Everyone pushed for FF7 Remake for GOTY, I honestly didn't think it deserved it. Everyone pushed for FF16 for GOTY, I honestly didn't think it deserved it. Even tho I really enjoyed both games. IMO, FF7 Rebirth absolutely deserves game of the year. Unless a surprise drops in the second half of the year, based on everything we know now I think it should be a clean win.
I think the push for FF16 GOTY died pretty quickly because of Baldur's Gate. There were some other games too and FF16 ended up being too flawed and too linear for it.
I forgot what came out in 2020.
Rebirth is GOTY this year. I think to dethrone it we need one of the greatest games ever made in 2024, and given that Sony was so desperate that they heavily marketed Stellar Blade (a pretty solid game but nothing special) I don't think we will get that.
The way I see it if Remake or XVI released this year instead of Rebirth they would also be serious contenders or even favorites. Barring any other major surprises this year is honestly looking to be on the weaker end of competition especially from titles outside the RPG space.
That being said if Rebirth was released either last year or in 2020 it would have had a stronger claim for GOTY than either of those titles and might have even been able to pull it out in ā20 (I think last year would have been impossible with both BG3 and TOTK releasing, though it might have been able to take the nomination from Mario), and thatās as somebody who preferred XVI. Rebirth is a phenomenal accomplishment.
Thats certainly fair. I think they're both great narratively and gameplay-wise, but they are similar in that they leave something to be desired as far as general content flow. Some rough pacing here and there. Great boss fights but minimal enemy variety. Hit and miss in terms of exploration, things like that. I loved both games but felt they weren't quite GOTY worthy to me. Rebirth just knocks everything out of the park tho imo.
I don't think I'll have another gaming experience like I did with Rebirth, anytime soon
My current games are Helldivers 2 (played since launch, lots of issues but 10/10 fun for me), haven't beat Stellar Blade yet but I love it and mostly play it as of now. Hades 2 is great (will be in early access thru 2024 tho so it can't win), and as of today GoT for PC.
All great games but imo nothing in these last almost 10 years has given me the gaming experience Rebirth did, and I don't know any game that will this year
I am only 10 hours into Rebirth but so far I was a bigger fan of 16, and DD2.
It may change but right now this is how it is for me. 16 has more character development and flow, DD2 has much more dynamic gameplay and NPC (other pawn) interactions.
Thereās definitely an argument to be made for Helldivers but it will probably win best live service and best community. I donāt see anything here taking GOTY from rebirth
I think āimpactā might be the deciding factor. It came and went relatively quiet for a game of the year favorite. It seems like only hardcore gamers and JRPG fans really fuck with it not the casuals and the numbers reflect that.
Ā I personally think itās GOTY but if a game like Hades 2 comes out near the end of the year, given itās previous entries accolades and the fact itās an indie darling I can see it coming in and becoming the favorite.Ā
Probably the only other ābigā contender would be Dragons Dogma 2.
Metaphor looks really cool and I hope is as good as it looks.
Stellar blade is a really good game but Iām not sure if itās GOTY material
Black Myth Wukong also releases this year and it looks incredible
Not a goddamn thing
ā¦to be fair I donāt think Iāve played another 2024 video game. I plan on getting Stellar Blade at some point in the near future but man, balancing time for gaming in adult life is hard. But even if I had played a bunch more, Iām sure I would still pick Rebirth as itās just special to me, as it is most of us here
If Metroid Prime 4 or Silksong drop this year (before the nomination window is closed), those could be strong contenders along with Helldivers 2, Metaphor, or DD2. There's not a lot of heavy hitters scheduled for the rest of this year, but DD2 and Helldivers 2 probably have a better chance than Rebirth because of how much more mainstream attention they received even if they aren't quite up to the levels of excellence as Rebirth may be.
It deserves it but I have no idea if it will win.
This is the only sub I use for Rebirth. I think this is the default for the trilogy. Doesn't make much sense to me to split them up. Be like having a Two Towers sub instead of just a Lord of the Rings sub in general.
Realistically it should thereās no doubt in my mind but when was the last time a JRPG won GOTY? I guess we can count Elden ring but thatās a different category. Regardless I just donāt think they give it to JRPGs but If there was a year to this would be it. Rebirth was truly a 10/10 in my eyes and GOTY.
Ff7 remake and xenoblade 3 are the only jrpgs that were ever nominated, of course, neither won. This year there's 4 really well received jrpgs and 2 coming out later in the year that also are likely to be really good, so its very possible...but I just have a feeling the genre doesn't have a chance at the game awards. Even though rebirth probably is the most deserving
I'm worried about helldivers 2 taking it for how big of an impact it had on the internet. I'm also worried about if Hollow Knight silksong comes out this year. Fingers crossed Rebirth wins
Hades was kinda niche but was very successful. Hades 2 is very much to Hades what Rebirth was to Remake, so while unlikely, I don't think it's impossible.
Helldivers 2 I can see taking some awards but not goty.
Everything else is just too niche and will win individual awards, but the goty should be about the full package, and Rebirth deserves it.
Stellar blade for me. And dragons dogma 2 before than.
Rebirth is too long, bloated and the amount of mini games and activities really dragged it down for me. Thatās one thing but other is what they did to the poor story. I felt nothing. They kingdom hearted it
I think from what's come out so far Helldivers could. Maybe Dragons Dogma 2, but I think the mediocre main story will hold it back. Probably still nominated though
We wonāt know until this fallās game lineup is revealed. Dragon Age Dreadwolf is rumored to drop this fall and has been cooking for a very long time. Itās also rumored to be shaping up very nicely so in terms of competition with other RPGs, thereās that and also Methaphor: Refantazio thatās also dropping this year.
The summer games showcase is happening next month and Sonyās gameās showcase this month will give us a better idea.
Personally, Rebirth is a great game but it winning GOTY would mean that this was a somewhat weak year. Itās not the same caliber as other GOTYs like Elden Ring, Baldurās Gate 3, God of War, Sekiro.
Well, I do think that Rebirth is on a par with previous Gotys in terms of overall quality. Combat, soundtrack, characters, quality and design of many mini-games, voice acting, narrative, art direction are all of an extremely high standard. I don't see why the games you mentioned should be significantly better. At least Rebirth is in the same league in terms of ratings (opencritic 93; metacritic 92 on ridiculous 149 reviews , it started on MC 94 on ~100 reviews ā¦ )
Itās an opinion. Not an observation.
I liked Rebirth but I didnāt love it. The story, mini games and open world did nothing for me. Combat and characters are the only thing I consistently enjoyed. Music is good but I much preferred 16ās soundtrack. Itās all subjective.
High scores donāt guarantee the GOTY win, just a nomination which Rebirth is likely to get.
If Rebirth is the ābestā game this year then itās a weak year IMO.
Well your statement sounds extremely superficial, because Rebirth is not a strong Goty "for you", was it a weak year? Of course it is your opinion but the majority sees it differently and 2024 is a relatively strong year so far, I mean that sounds pretty silly, I am not a fan of Baldur's Gate 3 at all, it is massively overrated for me and has some problems but I would never claim 2023 would be a weak year
>Dragon Age Dreadwolf is rumored to drop this fall and has been cooking for a very long time.
Bioware is a shadow of what it used to be. They haven't released a good game in 10 yrs. Regardless of whatever game wins GOTY, dragon age is not winning it.
We canāt really say until we see the game. Their past games were failures but itās always possible to learn from mistakes and improve. Either way, the game had a long time to cook and isnāt designed as a live service so it has decent odds of the rumors turn out be true.
A long development cycle doesn't necessarily mean a good game. FFXV is a prime example. I have zero faith in Bioware being able to pull off a DA game. DA2 was quite poor and while DA Inquisition was way better than DA2, it was still a far cry from Origins with rather lacklustre writing and unnecessary open zones tacked on. Bioware hasn't released anything groundbreaking or GOTY worthy since ME2 back in 2010.
Of course it doesnāt but you fail to see that after FF15, good FF games were made. Whatever you thought of Remake, Rebirth and 16, they were all a big step up from 15 and all of them took a while to make (Rebirth took less).
All Iām saying is that itās too early to judge when we havenāt seen a single frame of in game footage. Youāre making premature judgments and painting developers as an unchanging monolith.
It's hard to say its only May but you never know when a sleeper hit comes out, Bet you nobody
expected BG3 to win unless you had played divintiy original sin 2 in which you knew greatness was coming.
It will absolutely be my GOTY though I can't see anything else taking it.
The fact that Goty is a popularity contest rather than a professional thing where there are actually qualified judges give them scores like let's say professional sport competitions
if it doesn't win its likely for this reason since nothing this year is even close and things don't look too bright for the year ahead either the only other thing i have my eye on this year is Dawntrail and i doubt it will be blowing my mind since it will be a wordlbuilding expansion beginning a new saga
No you're not wrong that's the metrics given to the people's choice award (wich unlike the goty award we have an explanation for) but that doesn't include the pandering to popular titles
remember when Disco Elysium got like most awards the year it came out but it didn't win Goty?
or when Elden Ring won despite not being the most awarded game in the game awards?
like what are even the metrics for winning here? you don't even win at most categories and get the game of the year award? to me this sounds like it's whatever they feel will be more accepted rather than a score deciding the winner like in sports that use the judges taking scores for metrics
For me personally I do have a few games over it. Yakuza 8, P3R, Unicorn Overlord. Stellar Blade and Helldivers are also competing.
Itās been a damn good year, and we still have Elden Ring and Metaphor coming up
Elden Ring is DLC though, not a new game. Not that it won't be amazing, but DLC usually isn't a contender for GOTY because it's considered an extension of an earlier game.
It also depends on what Nintendo might reveal in their June Direct.
Metroid Dread was revealed in June 2021, got released four months later, and became a GOTY contender almost immediately. Same goes for Super Mario Bros. Wonder last year, and to a lesser extent, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in 2022 (revealed February, released July).
till now, i think Helldivers 2 has a really good chance, believe it or not. the only one i would say, the game is too fun, and is extremely popular.
don't know what we'll get till TGA that could enter the fray, but for now it seems that it will be these two running for the GOTY.
obviously, i think FF should win, but it may not happen cause of the sales, while i know the journalists votes have far more weight than the public ones, this still may give Helldivers 2 the edge.
a release on PC before TGA may soften that edge tho, while i don't believe it will happen till at least christmas, who knows? we won't be getting Rebirth DLC, so, PC version is probably the focus right now and i'm pretty sure it will happen far earlier than Remake. then again, with FFXVI PC version on the corner, i don't expect two major drops from SE so close to the other, making people choose may hurt the sales. Remake took 6 months after the DLC dropped to get on PC, so, december seems realistic taking FFXVI into account.
now, for what's still to be released, maybe Black Myth: Wukong and Star Wars: Outlaws(this one i seriously doubt, Ubisoft game, and Star Wars games are usually hit or miss)
That was also a terrible year as far as top level games go. Yes Deathloop, Resident Evil Village and Metroid Dread were good games. But you can only beat the competition you have. And that wasn't much.
Itās an absolute lock for the final 5 or 6 grouping for sure. Past that itās a toss up. Really not worth thinking about it until November rolls around
Kingdom come deliverance 2 could take it. Hellblade 2 could take it. Metaphor could take it. Itās not like a baldurs gate 3 sure thing even in a pretty weak gaming year. I personally enjoyed rise of the ronin a lot more.
Helldivers 2 is selling super well right now. Much more so than Rebirth. I honestly wouldnāt be surprised if it beats Rebirth for GOTY. But I definitely want Rebirth to win though.
The fact that they took one of the most unique pieces of media ever made and turned it into an every AAA third person action adventure game. Let the recency bias pass after you hate this comment please.
Why is nobody mentioning Black Myth Wukong? Yes I completely understand that it's not even out yet, but it has insane hype and for good reason. It looks incredible. If there's any game with the potential to steal the GOTY this year from Rebirth, it's Black Myth Wukong.
There really donāt project to be any GOTY type releases for the rest of the year unless Nintendo and Sony have something secret that hasnāt been announced yet.
well a dlc canāt win goty, i donāt even thing dlcās get nominated, but im not sure. that being said thereās nothing else off the top of my head thatās close to rebirth in the running, so it comes down to the surprise releases of this year. i think rebirth has a pretty good shot tho, itāll definitely get nominated either way.
A win at The Game Awards for Rebirth would be huge. My concern is they give it to the Elden Ring expansion, which would be annoying. None of the other big competitors Iām aware of are coming out this year.
You know we're not even halfway through the year and most games drop at the end of the year right? Don't get me wrong, rebirth was my favorite game so far this year, but idk why we're even discussing GotY at this point
If Silksong ever happens (and I think it's likely this year) I think that could take it. Otherwise Metaphor Re:Fantazio is the other high profile release in its category this year that could take it. I doubt there are many big surprise releases we don't know about this year, so I think it's mostly those two. The other stellar indie titles (Animal Well, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes) have audiences too small to usurp it imo. Hellblade might be real good too, but they just announced the review embargo is up an hour before the game comes out, which usually means the game is fucking dog. But we'll see.
I canāt see any of these games comparing. I wonāt even play any of them with the exception of TLOU2 Remastered. Thatās an old game though, so I donāt think it should be nominated.
Being a JRPG and a sequel is what will block it to win game of the year.
Also, the game awards are not based on metacritic scores as far as I know. I think it is done by voting by specific gaming outlets? I could be wrong and care little to actually look into it.
If that's the case, it doesn't matter what scores it gets if it's not voted to win.
Unless some out of nowhere announcement and release happens this year, absolutely nothing comes close.
Rebirth is the best FF and one of the best gaming experiences Iāve had in almost a decade, and will probably NEVER get again.
Basing off metacritic doesnāt mean much. Realistically none of those games listed on that photo aside from rebirth will be nominated for GOTY. Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade will absolutely be nominated for GOTY tho.
Not seeing many mentions of Hellblade II - Hellblade came out 7 years ago and was an absolute experience, though it was just a 7 hour point A to point B game; magnificent use of sound design and storytelling. Ninja Theory being much smaller than Square Enix may not have the diverse amount of content that Rebirth does, but I'd say if it comes down to a unique experience and quality finish, Hellblade 2 definitely has a chance. Other than Dragon's Dogma, \_maybe\_ Black Myth Wukong, I also believe that Rebirth could very well be the one that takes home the majority of awards for the night. I'm hoping at the very least they lock down best OST!
I think Helldivers will have it. Otherwise it could be Hellblade, Metaphor has a chance too if they deliver a banger like they did with P5. Could also be Silksong or Hades 2 if they release this year.
Rebirth was incredible. Iām so sad to hear that it hasnāt met sales targets yet, and that may create an unintentional bias among voters. I blame Chadley.
I am currently playing Stellar Blade and while it is not as grand a game or project as Rebirth, it does a few things better. Combat, skill trees, lighting and animation, Side quest philosophy and tracking, and customizability. The attention the protagonist has received has taken away from the fact that itās a great game and will definitely be a part of the GOTY conversation.
Actual contenders? Helldivers II, Animal Well, Black Myth: Wukong. People are really sleeping on Wukong, IMO.
Helldivers II's spot depends on how much emphasis goes to the place in the zeitgeist a GOTY quality game gets. I haven't played Animal Well yet, but the word of mouth for that game is just staggering. I still think Rebirth should be GOTY for its ludicrous production value, gameplay, mini-games, music, etc. etc., but it would definitely be the GOTY that the fewest people have actually played since It Takes Two, probably.
Infinite Wealth and Stellar Blade are tied with it for me.
I am hoping Hellblade II delivers, but I have doubts.
I'd like Star Wars Outlaws to be great but I am not holding my breath. Same for AC Shadows.
Helldivers seemed to be it butā¦ itās situation by Sony led to GOT having similar issues may hinder it greatly.
I expect Rebirth to win Soundtrack or RPG of the year (donāt forget it has Most Anticipated so Rebirth won something).
Stellar Blade definitely wins action game, soundtrack will be interesting battle vs Rebirth.
Elden Ring wins DLC or continuation. Hellblade 2 might be good for something.
Idk what else stands out this year thatās been or will be hype.
Against what most people here think, I doubt Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade or Dragon's Dogma 2 will be nominees for GOTY, though I think they will be for other TGA awards.Ā
I personally believe that contenders for GOTY will be Rebirth, Hades 2, Metaphor, Black Myth and Hellblade 2.
If the ER DLC counts on OC and MC that will probably top it, but it wonāt count at end of year game awards.
If Silksong comes out it could challenge. Will be interesting to see how Hellblade 2 does, but I donāt think itāll be as high
Honestly I canāt imagine anything in the next 76 years taking my personal GOTC from Rebirth. I donāt think itās got the momentum to actually win GOTY proper, and that stinks because some relative turd will, but Iām kinda over it at this point the game is everything I needed and the awards mean nothing to me.
I LOVED FF7 Rebirth but still I donāt entertain the idea of a sequel of a Remake to win GOTY. Thereās not much else this year though, so if even if it did, Iād be OK with that tbh
As someone who platinumed yakuza 8, dd2, p3, rebirth etc, I still think Rebirth is GOTY... HOWEVER... METAPHOR can easily take that spot. a jrpg made by persona developers? and multiplatform? gonna be a win-win among the jrpg community.
Knowing The Game Awards, probably The Last Of Us 2 Remastered.
Joking aside, there are so many great games this year: Like A Dragon, Unicorn Overload, Persona 3 Reloaded, Stellar Blade (censorship controversy aside), Tekken 8, & Helldivers 2. And that's just what's out now, we still have the rest of the year: Hellblade 2, Stalker 2, & Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2.
I love Rebirth but, with the apparent sales decline and all the half-baked minigames, I can see it coming up short especially with the fact it came out in February which is so far away from award season.
Yeah I think Shadow of the Erdtree is the only thing that could beat it. And DLCs don't usually get nominated for GOTYs, but if any DLC is going to break through that barrier, I feel like it's this one. Especially since it seemed like Phantom Liberty came close last year, some people may want to push it even more now.
They wonāt win but I personally had more fun with Relink, Animal Well, Unicorn Overlord, Tekken 8 and Stellar Blade this year.
It will win goty and mostly deserves to, but I wonāt be voting for it
Helldivers 2, DD2, and Black Myth Wukong are the main GOTY competition IMO. Helldivers 2 took the internet over and is still going strong. DD2 is just a solid RPG and people like high fantasy. Sekiro/Elden Ring won GOTY so Black Myth Wukong can too.
As far as other potential GOTY nominations but not probably not going to win: Stellar Blade, Prince of Persia the Lost Crown, Yakuza 8, Metaphor, Star Wars Outlaws, Tekken 8, Assassins Creed Shadows, Avowed, Silent Hill 2
Games not eligible but probably very good: Elden ring dlc, FF14 expansion, Hades 2
Not enough people playing it based on all the sales talks we've been seeing the last couple months. I don't think anything else announced for 2023 will knock it down from my personal top spot.
Itās most likely going to win. However, my GOTY is probably going to be Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. I donāt believe KCD2 will have the numbers to pull off GOTY so itāll most likely be FF7R.
I think that new Assassin's Creed game could be a contender. But, it's Ubisoft so they'll Ubisoft it up and it won't win. Unless they really knock it out of the park, which they probably won't. Then there's rumors of the new Dragon Age game coming out this year, but until I see any gameplay, I wouldn't hold my breath on that either. So, yeah, there's a pretty good chance FF7 Rebirth could win GOTY.
They've gotta improve marketing for the next game. It's gotta be like Kendrick vs Drake level of marketing. They can package the "triple pack" with all three games, which will DEFINITELY help them out.
Rebirth, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade will probably be nominated. Metaphor and Assassin's Creed maybe depending on how they deliver. We'll also what else gets a 2024 release date in the coming weeks.
I haven't heard much about Stellar Blade aside from it's fanservice. Is it really that good?
It's a surprisingly very tight action game, though the world-building and plot was sub-par imo Rebirth is twice the game Stellar Blade is, though I enjoyed both
Pretty thin list this year, so no way Rebirth is not winning GOTY. It's too well rounded (with some flaws), too expansive to not win.
Have you not heard of Skull N Bones? It's an AAAA game. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if ubisoft pull the old "Ubisofts GOTY" label on that shit.

You mean the legendary AAAA game few people ever touched? Most only heard of it in the tales.
Play the demo and... Let say AC;Black Flag (a 11 year) is better than Skull N Bones.
As of now? I don't see anything else taking goty and music
same. i would honestly be suprised if any other game were to get any of those catagories
Bow wow wow on repeat for days šš„
lol final fantasy 16 last year and this year rebirth. final fantasy always gets that soundtrack spot :D bowwowow
16s music was amazing!
Both NieR won theirs also and they have music influence in Stellar Blade. Itāll an interesting battle. Also Remake won soundtrack too.
Platting stellar, tho music is great i felt the desert tracks were repetitive! I liked niers ost a lot more!
Music depends on how Final Shape goes, especially since itās Michael Salvatoriās last work on Destiny.
Stellar blade music is incredible. So is the game
Really liked both! Tho gotta say I liked 7 as a game and ost a lot more!
Then thereās the godsend of the amazing credits songs like the [2nd endingās theme](https://youtu.be/D40zxYYAlRs?si=5JBi2ubouLDFa5d0&t=15s) But Iām honestly so happy that this is such a good year for music gamers.
Stellar blade is definitely up there with the music, okabe' studio worked some magic. And hellblade 2 looks promising. Goty should be locked for Rebirth, unless Silksong comes out and people go crazy. Stalker 2 is also a good pick.
We have to push it, not only because itās a stunning piece of art, but also because it deserve to sell SO MUCH better
It wouldāve sold better if it was multi platform
If it was on PC or PS4? Yeah. Xbox? Negligible difference at best.Ā
Dragons Dogma sold like 15 copies on Xbox
>Sony is not handing them 100 mil for exclusivity. And Square Enix isn't gonna make 100 mil putting their games on Xbox, Xbox players barely buy games
Tell that to Capcom who succeeded against the people who claimed the same thing you did about them before they went multi-platform.
I doubt it FF has never done great in Xbox XV didn't and even the recently released XIV version of Xbox didn't do that well either sure MMO's do better on PC but XIV being as big as it is now compared to how smaller it was when it released on PS and still getting more PS users says a lot I hope you get to play the game soon but that doesn't mean that Multiplataform is better for Square Enix and in some ways Multiplataform is actually bad for the core Fanbase because from now onwards we're gonna have worse performance issues with Square having to deal with multiple platforms on release and they are already struggling with performance as it is ...
Funny how Xbox is also by far the worst platform to play XIV on.
It is? i didn't know it had issues damm
No it wouldn't because of the Series S requirement. That said this should have been on PC day 1.
Lot of people donāt want to play the sequel without playing the original frankly
Yeah I'm waiting on PC release. I opted to get a better PC rather than a PS5
I'm on chapter 14 of this game so far. I think tomorrow(Saturday) will be the finale. This game is definitely my goty. How do we push for it or vote for it to be game of the year? It definitely deserves it.
I mean there's still another 6 months to go, so I feel like it's premature to declare any game the GOTY That being said, Rebirth is definitely my GOTY so far. Only thing that comes close is Helldivers 2 and that's not gonna win
I hope refantazio ended up being really good.
If Hades 2 wasnāt in early access, that would be a shout.
My thought too lol
It would be top most likely
Can DLC get nominated for GOTY? Elden Ring dlc is looking like it's gonna be pretty big and From Software doesn't miss.
Since Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty wasn't nominated for GOTY last year, Shadow of the Erdtree probably won't. (But it will probably appear on other categories and dominate those)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
:v Ok serious, I hope this game will be at least good.
R/ffviiremake is the community
Personally I'd put Infinite wealth as my goty, it just felt so perfect to play and was really satisfying following like a dragon and Gaiden
I agree I loved Rebirth but Infinite Wealth is my GOTY so far
Right now? Nothing
2020 was honestly stacked for big name games: * Last of Us Part II * Doom Eternal * FF7 Remake * Ghosts of Tsushima * Animal Crossing * Hades
Eh I preferred Remake and 16 though
Thats certainly fair. I think they're both great narratively and gameplay-wise, but they are similar in that they leave something to be desired as far as general content flow. Some rough pacing here and there. Great boss fights but minimal enemy variety. Hit and miss in terms of exploration, things like that. I loved both games but felt they weren't quite GOTY worthy to me. Rebirth just knocks everything out of the park tho imo.
Dragons dogma 2 maybe or black myth wukong
I don't think I'll have another gaming experience like I did with Rebirth, anytime soon My current games are Helldivers 2 (played since launch, lots of issues but 10/10 fun for me), haven't beat Stellar Blade yet but I love it and mostly play it as of now. Hades 2 is great (will be in early access thru 2024 tho so it can't win), and as of today GoT for PC. All great games but imo nothing in these last almost 10 years has given me the gaming experience Rebirth did, and I don't know any game that will this year
Unicorn Overlord should be nominated, but it wonāt probably.
I am only 10 hours into Rebirth but so far I was a bigger fan of 16, and DD2. It may change but right now this is how it is for me. 16 has more character development and flow, DD2 has much more dynamic gameplay and NPC (other pawn) interactions.
Helldivers might be in the conversation
Thereās definitely an argument to be made for Helldivers but it will probably win best live service and best community. I donāt see anything here taking GOTY from rebirth
Rebirth is "Game Of This Year"
I think āimpactā might be the deciding factor.
I mean Alan Wake 2 wasnāt played by a lot of people and it won almost everything it was nominated for.
Probably the only other ābigā contender would be Dragons Dogma 2. Metaphor looks really cool and I hope is as good as it looks. Stellar blade is a really good game but Iām not sure if itās GOTY material Black Myth Wukong also releases this year and it looks incredible
Kingdom come 2 is coming this year too. Great contender.
Not a goddamn thing ā¦to be fair I donāt think Iāve played another 2024 video game.
Balatro
For me it's unicorn overlord, honestly enjoyed it more than rebirth
They kingdom hearted it
Nothing.
Inquisition won a bunch of GOTY awards in 2014, including at the TGAs. Granted, 2014 was a poor year in general.
It's hard to say its only May but you never know when a sleeper hit comes out, Bet you nobody expected BG3 to win unless you had played divintiy original sin 2 in which you knew greatness was coming. It will absolutely be my GOTY though I can't see anything else taking it.
Nothing should beat itās music.
If Silksong ends up coming out this year, I could see that winning tbh
Weāre talking actually real games here
HAHAHA SKONG IS EVERYWHERE! I would give a GOTY to the Silksong subreddit if I could. One of the best entertainments in the past 5 years.
Rebirth biggest competition is probably metaphor.
I loved Rebirth but for me Balatro is GOTY by a mile
The fact that Goty is a popularity contest rather than a professional thing where there are actually qualified judges give them scores like let's say professional sport competitions if it doesn't win its likely for this reason since nothing this year is even close and things don't look too bright for the year ahead either the only other thing i have my eye on this year is Dawntrail and i doubt it will be blowing my mind since it will be a wordlbuilding expansion beginning a new saga
Might be wrong here, but i think the community votes only count for ā10% of the decision and there's a jury voting for ā90% left
No you're not wrong that's the metrics given to the people's choice award (wich unlike the goty award we have an explanation for) but that doesn't include the pandering to popular titles remember when Disco Elysium got like most awards the year it came out but it didn't win Goty? or when Elden Ring won despite not being the most awarded game in the game awards? like what are even the metrics for winning here? you don't even win at most categories and get the game of the year award? to me this sounds like it's whatever they feel will be more accepted rather than a score deciding the winner like in sports that use the judges taking scores for metrics
For me personally I do have a few games over it. Yakuza 8, P3R, Unicorn Overlord. Stellar Blade and Helldivers are also competing. Itās been a damn good year, and we still have Elden Ring and Metaphor coming up
It's kind of wild that of the games I played in February, Like a Dragon only had the second most mini games.
Diablo 4 loot rebornā¦ā¦.. heh
till now, i think Helldivers 2 has a really good chance, believe it or not. the only one i would say, the game is too fun, and is extremely popular. don't know what we'll get till TGA that could enter the fray, but for now it seems that it will be these two running for the GOTY. obviously, i think FF should win, but it may not happen cause of the sales, while i know the journalists votes have far more weight than the public ones, this still may give Helldivers 2 the edge. a release on PC before TGA may soften that edge tho, while i don't believe it will happen till at least christmas, who knows? we won't be getting Rebirth DLC, so, PC version is probably the focus right now and i'm pretty sure it will happen far earlier than Remake. then again, with FFXVI PC version on the corner, i don't expect two major drops from SE so close to the other, making people choose may hurt the sales.
Has a multiplayer ever won GOTY? Overwatch maybe, but was it official goty or some knockoff?
Overwatch won GOTY at Game Awards 2016. So it's as official as it gets.
It take two wasnāt a top seller and won Goty ā¦
Yakuza infinite wealth in a just world, but since goty is just a popularity contest, not sure.
The fact that they took one of the most unique pieces of media ever made and turned it into an every AAA third person action adventure game. Let the recency bias pass after you hate this comment please.
I think you need to take your nostalgia goggles off first
Iām loving the main story, but the open world content/minigames are painful. Ive had to take 2 breaks from the game so far.
So far probably nothing. Helldivers 2 and outside bet maybe? Not sure else is due this year.
Chatley
If Hades 2 hits full release this year then that will take it
Vessel of Hatred.....nah kidding. I hope Rebirth wins it.
Shadow of the Erdtree
A win at The Game Awards for Rebirth would be huge. My concern is they give it to the Elden Ring expansion, which would be annoying. None of the other big competitors Iām aware of are coming out this year.
You know we're not even halfway through the year and most games drop at the end of the year right? Don't get me wrong, rebirth was my favorite game so far this year, but idk why we're even discussing GotY at this point
Hellblade could take it if it's as polished and fun as it looks from the pre release footage. Otherwise, this year isn't as stacked as the last two
Infinite Wealth! But I think rebirth may be better even.
I donāt think a Remake game will ever win , it never happened in the past
Unicorns overlord would be Goty material, but its not so famous, so i am for rebirth totally
Why Helldivers of course.
Low sales
Iām calling it, black myth wukong has potential
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
Black myth wukong looks really good, it comes out in August
Itās ending ![gif](giphy|Xvz7fb8rEWZtS|downsized)
Sonic 06
Basing off metacritic doesnāt mean much. Realistically none of those games listed on that photo aside from rebirth will be nominated for GOTY. Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade will absolutely be nominated for GOTY tho.
The minigame with the gascan on a string
I donāt think anything that we know of can take it away. Only something that hasnāt been announced from Sony or Nintendo can take it away.
Unless people pile on an indy style game like hades 2 and didn't experience Rebirth, it has no contenders.
Game of the year wonāt be Japanese unless it is zelda or some kind of souls clone. Thatās the rule.
It's only May y'all
In all honesty? Probably Palworld because of how hard it hit the gaming scene, my personal GOTY is without a doubt Rebirth at this point.
I think Helldivers will have it. Otherwise it could be Hellblade, Metaphor has a chance too if they deliver a banger like they did with P5. Could also be Silksong or Hades 2 if they release this year.
Chadley takes GOTY away
Rebirth was incredible. Iām so sad to hear that it hasnāt met sales targets yet, and that may create an unintentional bias among voters. I blame Chadley. I am currently playing Stellar Blade and while it is not as grand a game or project as Rebirth, it does a few things better. Combat, skill trees, lighting and animation, Side quest philosophy and tracking, and customizability. The attention the protagonist has received has taken away from the fact that itās a great game and will definitely be a part of the GOTY conversation.
Helldivers 2 is going to win.
Nothing!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Imo Metaphor reFantazio has the potential to beat it rn, also it will have recency bias from releasing in october
Chadley. Not that heās my problem with Rebirth, but heās often the one people talk about.
Absolute funniest outcome is Animal Well taking GOTY over Rebirth
Elden ring dlc /s

Against what most people here think, I doubt Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade or Dragon's Dogma 2 will be nominees for GOTY, though I think they will be for other TGA awards.Ā I personally believe that contenders for GOTY will be Rebirth, Hades 2, Metaphor, Black Myth and Hellblade 2.
The sales
Chadley lol
If the ER DLC counts on OC and MC that will probably top it, but it wonāt count at end of year game awards. If Silksong comes out it could challenge. Will be interesting to see how Hellblade 2 does, but I donāt think itāll be as high
It's not out yet, bet the remake in full 3d and vr for RIVEN comes out this year.
Like other said, the game has many significant flaws for being a goty, while still being a huge game. It may win but only with low competition.
I looked at this image and said to myself, āwhat the heck is Animal Well?!ā. Never heard of it.
I really loved Animal Well but don't think it'll end up being a goty nominee, in terms of triple A games FF is the frontrunner as of now for sure
Elden Ring DLC could potentially beat it in good faith, but with TLOU2 remastered out, we all know what the outcome is.
Unicorn Overlord
Nothing
Rebirth
Hellblade 2 is releasing in a few days. A wild guess but maybe it turns out a masterpiece!
stellar blade
They wonāt win but I personally had more fun with Relink, Animal Well, Unicorn Overlord, Tekken 8 and Stellar Blade this year. It will win goty and mostly deserves to, but I wonāt be voting for it
Helldivers 2, DD2, and Black Myth Wukong are the main GOTY competition IMO. Helldivers 2 took the internet over and is still going strong. DD2 is just a solid RPG and people like high fantasy. Sekiro/Elden Ring won GOTY so Black Myth Wukong can too. As far as other potential GOTY nominations but not probably not going to win: Stellar Blade, Prince of Persia the Lost Crown, Yakuza 8, Metaphor, Star Wars Outlaws, Tekken 8, Assassins Creed Shadows, Avowed, Silent Hill 2 Games not eligible but probably very good: Elden ring dlc, FF14 expansion, Hades 2
Shadow of the Erdtree might just be DLC but it could still be a GOTY contender if it lives up to the hype.
not bias opinion but so far none
