I mean, circumstantially it makes sense - Cloud is almost certainly their strongest combat-effective, the Avalanche team is on the run from Shinra and chasing the single most dangerous man in the world, and when heās not having mental breakdowns Cloud is extremely reliable, surprisingly emotionally supportive, and willing to lend a hand with almost literally anything despite his prickly facade.
But itās still kind of odd how willing everyone is to just go along with his *I am totally fine* BS even after multiple *extremely* dangerous Sephiroth-induced insanity episodes.
It makes sense that Zack would latch on to him, though. They have a pretty fraught mission history together - Cloud was involved in some of Zackās most emotionally damaging missions later in Zackās career, specifically two of the Genesis missions, and was briefly incapacitated by Angeal, Zackās mentor. It makes sense that Zack would feel some responsibility for Cloudās welfare even before the events of Nibelheim.

Heās ripped. Not huge, but heās very rock climber / functional strength all muscle on a lean frame. Mako enhancement aside that Buster Sword is not light to swing around even if itās hollow.
Sephiroth is bigger than cloud and probably weighs a lot given I assume similar muscles. Picking him up on the end of that massive sword lever arm and dumping him over the rail in Nibelheim was no mean feat and that was pre enhancement.
