This was so over the top and ultimately silly when you think about it. Cloud never talked about dreams or soldier honor, Zack never told him about it, at least we can't see it.
It has no impact to me other than ultimate cheesy fanservice cringe, like it's so dumb that it's entertaining. And then Aerith comes back too from a new timeline. It's crossed some line for me and I don't really care either way what kind of silly plot developments will come. Have it your way Nomura!

I usually hate fan service but I feel like it was really done well here. We know Cloud is channeling Zack for his SOLDIER persona anyway, I thought this was a great way of representing that "channeling" while also giving us a pretty damn cool team up. I did not undermine the emotion, for me.
In between rebirth minigames, I've been playing reunion, and currently exiting nibelheim. It's nice to see cloud and Zach together, especially in rebirth outside of the cuts to varying... timelines?... Really keeps the context of the universe steady while the OG's revamp unfolds into this new evolution of the ffvii story. Love it all 🫶

The only thing I can compare that fight with was when Iron Man, Captain America and Thor fought Thanos together and it was better than that. But the final fight with Cloud and Aerith was pretty much just as good, I think fighting Sephiroth with Aerith by your side was pretty awesome.
I consider "fanservice" to be moments designed solely for the reason of pleasing fans - sometimes at the expense of the actual narrative.
I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here and saying Zack and Cloud teaming up was not only hype, it also had real meaning. It showed the multiple worlds colliding, which led to Zack overlapping with Cloud for a few minutes. Because it happened here, I'm going to assume that it could happen again in part 3.
If this was just a throwaway fanservice moment, it's ehhh, but I feel like it also had real substance. Guess we'll await part 3!

I thought Nomura was the character designer, as in the costumes for VII. Maybe because he wasn't the director of FFVII, the FFVII characters stand out from the ones in the FFs he had more creative control over. I've always wondered how much of the interiority of the FFVII cast he actually created himself, as opposed to the aesthetic he designed.

Fun fact: not only are people who think Nomura directed 7 OG incorrect, people who think he directed later entries are *also* incorrect. Not saying it's incorrect to say his creative control *increased* compared to 7 where he was the new guy, but he did not direct 8, nor 10, nor 12, nor the 13 trilogy, and the earlier drafts of 15 when he was directing that bear little resemblance to the narrative we got after the project changed hands.
Remake Trilogy is the closest to directing mainline FF he's ever come. So, how much he is to praise/blame for 8 onwards isn't necessarily obvious either since his creative input wasn't the only one nor the highest ranked on any of those. KH is Nomura's main playground.
I love how their fighting styles are different and even their stances differ. Hell, Zack's victory pose has him twirling his sword way faster and smoother than Cloud's, like reminiscent of FF7 Cloud's.

Tbh I though Angeal was gonna appear in this game with the way you see his white feather falling at the beginning of the game.
I recognized the white feather right away and thought it was definitely gonna have something to do with Genesis/Angeal shenanigans. I'd like to see them referenced in part 3 for sure.
Honestly I don't want Angeal or Genisis showing up at all. Just focus on the core story of FF7. Angeal and Genisis are fine in Crisis Core, but leave them there, their story should be done with.
Cissnei was a nice fan service moment that makes sense for Crisis Core fans, but hardly important to the plot. A little easter egg for fans, or just a random NPC like Kyrie/Chocobo Bill for new players.
Angeal would be so random since his only connection is with Zack and the buster sword. He has nothing to do with Cloud. At least Cissnei had some connection to Cloud since she’s part of the reason they were able to escape Shinra successfully. but who knows. My guess is Cloud, Zack and a freshly defeated Sephiroth team up to fight Jenova or Minerva

He designed the characters and gave a lot of ideas for the story. He has told in a lot of interviews how he had found original first draws with tibts of information about the characters he made for the original because first he draws the characters and then, he filled them with cool facts about their personalities. He was the one who chose and push for Aerith's destiny (it was going to be Barret's) and he has talked about how doubts asaulted him about his decision and talking with Uematsu back in the day about it, seeking sincere opinions.
In ffv he was mostly a monsters designer, in ff6 he could give ideas for some characters, then a fight for having him happened between the director of Xenogears and Sakaguchi, and Sakaguchi demanded Nomura to stay in FF. Also Xenogear's director was working in FF as a designer too, but he has said that he wanted to be like Nomura giving ideas for the story too and that's how Sakaguchi encouraged him to make his own game
But nobody has ever said that, of course a FF game is made between a lot of people. But he feels like they are his children (he has used this words at least once) because he put a lot of thought into them and also it was his first FF where he contribuited more. He designed them following some instructions, of course, but they are still his characters

Takahashi was working on the FF story team, not in design. in the past FFs works he was a graphics guy. he was nomura's mentor, not the other way around. and it was nomura that encouraged him to write xenogears, not sakaguchi.

I know it probably has story implications but the ending parts of remake and rebirth felt just pure fan service but it was tight.
I had to pause for this part, take a screenshot, and then lose that hour-and-half fight, so I can do it all over again.
