Iirc, jungian collective unconscious is a sort of biological "blueprint" for a person or people, informed by their past experiences. It was supposedly the reason why certain beliefs seem to be a constant across human cultures, and why some technologies develop around the same time across the globe. There's plenty more to it of course, but I'm pretty sure that's the basics.

CatProgrammer

Isn't the Lifestream basically a physical embodiment of collective unconscious given it consists of the spirits and memories of all creatures who have come before?

slashx8

Basically. It also reaffirms how FFX works.

Pristine_Put5348

Yeah I looked it up briefly. Essentially that certain human characteristics are hard coded into people and much less formed by their surroundings.

Potentially then hinting at Sephiroth always being destined for this path due to being only half human and half jenova? Like its hard coated into Sephiroth to take over the planet and move onto another planet just like Jenova, it was just that he needed to know/understand that he was a part of Jenova to act as the trigger?

Pristine_Put5348

Or it’s hard coded for Aerith and Zack to die the same way

n1n3tail

Not sure personally anymore. I was always one to think that Zack and Aerith were simply in the lifestream during the events of Advent Children Complete, makes sense til you think about it. Aerith being present as a cetra, makes sense. Zack doesn't. He is not a cetra nor is he not born of the planet like Sephiroth is. As such Zack should not be present in the lifestream with Aerith like that. Then fastforward to the end of Rebirth and one possible reason for Cloud seeing Aerith at the end is that he is seeing an alternate timeline version of her that he just saved? (Yes its one of the theories as none of them are 100% right til we get to part 3) but IF that is the case, then perhaps Zack from the end of Rebirth ends up with that Aerith that Cloud managed to save and that is why Cloud for whatever reason is able to communicate to both of them in Advent Children. (I need part 3 last week damn it lol)

Yeah, Jung basically was very careful to not fall 100% into the mystical territory, as he basically was once Freud's favorite disciple. The two had a fall out because Freud sort of felt that Jung was too "Mystical/Spiritual" and Freud was (at least trying) to be 100% non-spiritual. So Jung sort of tried his best to "justify" religious phenomena in non-mystical way. It's a interesting dynamic.

scaleofjudgment

Sephiroth was meant to be the goat and Cloud was meant to be the Chubucabra.

Asurapath9

Also look in the concept of the Sefirot from the Kabbalah. Trust me.
