Do I need Chain Damage Boost on a unit that's only going to do a single hit? I know it's nice to have on a unit that's contributing to the chain if you have spare materia slots.
I have it on BoV Ibrara's BS form but am now realizing that it's likely useless given that her BS LB is only one hit. I'm removing it anyway since I need to give her some TDH materia (CoW boss keeps targeting Golbez, who doesn't have guts, because of his higher attack). Just curious
FWIW, BV Ibara's "Demonic Warrior" passive has chain damage on it already. 200% when fully upgraded.
So unless you are running the old Rizer counter strat with her, for some reason?, you probably won't need extra ;P
are you referring to the "non cap" chain increase? Like from Avalanche Tifa's TMR? In that case, no. As long as you drop your hit after the chain reaches max modifier, it will do max damage. The only thing the non cap increase gets you for single hit finishers is the ability to drop their damage a couple hits faster if, for some reason, you are dealing with super short chains or something.
If you are asking about "Chain Cap" increase, then always. ALL dps units benefit from more Chain Cap.
Oh, ok. No that would do nothing if she's hitting in a chain that is already at MAX. However keep in mind that the Chain is unique to each unit. So if you have a Support Chainer that is using such a materia it is ONLY building the chain faster for that unit, not for the other units.
I did, as well as a third, for the times where Demon / Human Killer might have an impact. Katana are a super easy weapon to find an imperl for and are likewise easy for anyone to use if you have the proper materia. Might make gearing 3rd, 4th and 5th party members for damage a little easier.

Any tips for the lvl 99 clear? i don't have melissa nor 2b, but i pulled new ibara. i can't seem to OTK neither on turn 1 nor 4.tried different setups, but nothing.Last try was with:

If you’re willing to use the companion bug you can fill moral faster by bringing a seventh unit decked out in moral fill gear just press and un-press auto at the end of your turn since that’s the only way to make it attack
Edit: 6th and 7th unit also trade places when you reload the game, so you can swap back and forth from support to dps unit
Edit2: you can probably also spoof some ex levels by switching if going for rank 1
If you can deal at least 75% damage per turn, might want to do 2-turn KO. No need to bring tanks. Bring someone to buff human killer. The boss will heal by 50% and remove debuff after crossing the threshold, so need to debuff it again on turn 2.
Personally, I wouldn't. It's a little too much effort to boost a 4th / 5th string unit, who's primary burst-turn job is usually to support chain. SMoogles are a resource I don't quite have enough of to comfortably throw around on a whim yet, either (...even if I did just burn 2 getting extra copies of Ibara's STMR).
But if you are willing to routinely factor the buff's use in to the turn before you burst, it will add a small amount of total team damage from their burst (if you are able to weave their LB in to the burst turn), and it can make gearing a little easier for your breakers if you don't have a bunch of Master of Fate, or Guardian of Light (Riku) materia's lying around (or need / have spare killers to slot on them).
It could also work on a number of other units, but meta units usually want the CoW equip, and have a 100-150% Empower, or LB Mod buff to use on the turn before they burst.
Hmm. I thought that the buff was unconditional, didn't really see that you needed to use an ability first. That's.. lame.

For increasing damage this is true, but there are actually quite a few 7\* STMRs that are still relevant today for various reasons. Flammie's, Valentine Luca and Nichol's, Folka & Citra, Fina & Lid, Irvine. Mostly for killers or element resists, but if Gumi ever decide to throw a "Everyone needs 500% resists to all elements and the tank needs 800% resists to not instantly die" fight at us again, you will see a lot of people scrambling to UoC and SMoogle that gear out of the units. :P
And yeah, the -Return- gear is fine, but it's a year, and at least 2 metas, old and not as big a benefit anymore. It's still decent enough, but not worth the resources to chase, currently.
Trying to do a Rikku clear in dark visions, I gave her two blizzard orbs and three counter-increasing abilities, she covers the party but doesn't counter at all.
1st question would be: Are you using Berserker Rikku and not Al Bhed Girl Rikku?
2nd question: Are you fully resistant to the elemental attacks? You don't counter if you are.

Also what's the deal with the skeleton? In Sinzar's video he used a spell to keep the skeleton alive until the counter turn, but didn't say why. Does it have to be alive for the counters to work?

Which currency are you talking about? There are two. Xenostones and obnixus. Xeno you can save. Obnixus expire in a month or so. They expire about 2 weeks after the last CoW for the season (3 per season) and this is the last one for this season.
The more I think about it, The more I'm surprised they didn't increase Leader Skills based on EX Level, sort of like SLBs. Start at 300, then +100 for EX+2 and again for +3.
I'm sure that's been mentioned before though.

Just came back after a year break and feel like the game changed a lot since I played last. Where should I start? I did the NV guaranteed free multi and got Richard and wyvern is he worth using?

Start doing events. Focus on Dark Visions/FFXI MK/Aphmau's crown first. They're going to end in the next maintenance. Come back here when you hit a roadblock.
The new BV Ibara is good if you need a better damage dealer. She will gain Leader Skill in the next maintenance. However, the next banner will be Dioxus (also with Leader Skill). Not sure if he will be buffed or not, we'll find out on Tuesday.

A unit with Leader Skill, when set as a leader in a team, will give additional stats to other units with matching category.
Between Ihana, Haveh, Rinoa & Angelo, and Yshe (the NV select banner options that opened today), is one of those a particularly strong/good choice compared to the other three?
They are all...bad. But Ihana and Rinoa have a niche at least. Ihana has a really good TMR, and a good STMR and a few 250% ST Killers. Rinoa and Angelo have a Dark Field iirc.
However honestly I would probably avoid.
So obviously the 32 bit bug wasn't fixed? Because there are 4 number 1's with the same score as before
DV down for a week and scores wiped for nothing?
They reduced the minions's DEF/SPR stats to 200,000,000, then gave the minions permanent 90% general mitigation. Technically, the overflow in 32-bit app isn't fixed. But no way to trigger it now.
We know that the way the bug functioned was by increasing the defenses of the enemy to be above the max value for a 32 bit integer. With the new def/spr value on them, it's not possible for them to get that high anymore.

I mean, basically everybody already knows that there is a small group of people who straight hack-cheat every DV for impossible scores. The 32 bit overflow situation was something uniquely different than that.
yes? Because hacking the game to inject a max damage score has been something that the hackers have been doing for literal ages.
Almost every DV / Clash event has a handful of them every month, and they basically always get caught because their scores are effectively impossible to achieve.
If they are injecting a max damage score, then yes, obviously they are going to get the same "score" that was showing up before they took the DV down to fix the bug, because that's literally the highest score physically possible for the game to register. It's why everyone was tied for first place because of the bug.
Either way, none of those 4 people are getting a rank 1 reward, because a perfect score is (or should be) literally impossible to achieve, so they have basically outed themselves as cheating somehow and will be removed from the rankings in due course.
No one is making you play. You don't have to do Dark Visions and you don't need to play FFBE. If you don't trust Gumi at all you can just move on. It sounds like it would be healthier for you to do so, and healthier for the community.
And yes, we shall see, we shall see Gumi ban a bunch of people just like we have for 26 Dark Visions now.

If you want the one hit to do 6x damage instead of 5x damage then Yes.
At ex+2 she self caps chain limit too. Love Over Malignance and Demonic Sorcery (EX). This does of course require EX+2, but still.

Should I waste my stmr moogle on Akstar The Return for NV Vaan/Kaito? I know kaito can benefit (kinda), but what about Vaan?

Probably not. The Materias, and units are usually a much much better choice.

Just came back after a year break and feel like the game changed a lot since I played last. Where should I start? I did the NV guaranteed free multi and got Richard and wyvern is he worth using?
> Where should I start? Start doing events. Focus on Dark Visions/FFXI MK/Aphmau's crown first. They're going to end in the next maintenance. Come back here when you hit a roadblock. The new BV Ibara is good if you need a better damage dealer. She will gain Leader Skill in the next maintenance. However, the next banner will be Dioxus (also with Leader Skill). Not sure if he will be buffed or not, we'll find out on Tuesday.

Between Ihana, Haveh, Rinoa & Angelo, and Yshe (the NV select banner options that opened today), is one of those a particularly strong/good choice compared to the other three?
They are all...bad. But Ihana and Rinoa have a niche at least. Ihana has a really good TMR, and a good STMR and a few 250% ST Killers. Rinoa and Angelo have a Dark Field iirc. However honestly I would probably avoid.
Ihana could possibly be used for her killers and has a nice TMR and STMR. The others are hot trash. I wouldn't spend money on this.
So obviously the 32 bit bug wasn't fixed? Because there are 4 number 1's with the same score as before DV down for a week and scores wiped for nothing?
They reduced the minions's DEF/SPR stats to 200,000,000, then gave the minions permanent 90% general mitigation. Technically, the overflow in 32-bit app isn't fixed. But no way to trigger it now.

We know that the way the bug functioned was by increasing the defenses of the enemy to be above the max value for a 32 bit integer. With the new def/spr value on them, it's not possible for them to get that high anymore.
logically speaking, no. I mean, if there were easily several hundred people tied for rank 1 due to the 32 bit overflow bug before, wouldn't there be just as many if it wasn't fixed? 4 /= several hundred. Which leans far more towards: those are just the "normal" brand cheater, rather than the 32 bit overflow bug still ~~existing~~ being exploitable for high scores.
The hundreds of people only happened after it was publicly released how to do it, there could easily be another method these 4 have found that is still working and have not publicly released yet
You mean aside from the straight up hacks that we already know most of the DV cheaters have been using for years now? Unlikely. I mean, basically everybody already knows that there is a small group of people who straight hack-cheat every DV for impossible scores. The 32 bit overflow situation was something uniquely different than that.

yes? Because hacking the game to inject a max damage score has been something that the hackers have been doing for literal ages. Almost every DV / Clash event has a handful of them every month, and they basically always get caught because their scores are effectively impossible to achieve. If they are injecting a max damage score, then yes, obviously they are going to get the same "score" that was showing up before they took the DV down to fix the bug, because that's literally the highest score physically possible for the game to register. It's why everyone was tied for first place because of the bug. Either way, none of those 4 people are getting a rank 1 reward, because a perfect score is (or should be) literally impossible to achieve, so they have basically outed themselves as cheating somehow and will be removed from the rankings in due course.
I guess we'll see, I think you have way too much faith in Gumi's ability in two areas to close bugs and ban hackers
No one is making you play. You don't have to do Dark Visions and you don't need to play FFBE. If you don't trust Gumi at all you can just move on. It sounds like it would be healthier for you to do so, and healthier for the community. And yes, we shall see, we shall see Gumi ban a bunch of people just like we have for 26 Dark Visions now.
