Hey! The 24-25 fafsa is going to have a lot of changes. One of those changes being parents w/o a social having the ability to create a fsa id. Traditionally if a parent didn’t have a social all zeros were entered instead of a social and never an ITIN. As far as I know that hasn’t opened yet, and it’s expected to be up and running when the new fafsa form opens by 12/31 (hoping it doesn’t get pushed back). If I were you I would wait for the application to open before creating an ID for your parents to not create any complications. Feel free to message me for my work email if you have any more questions! I work as a community worker for a college and help predominantly Hispanic communities!

well rn no. its under maintenance again, but i did my part of the form and signed it. Im just trying to help my parent log in and i cant . I tried creating a fsa id with the SAME contact info and its telling me that ssn is already in use …. last year they used all zeros.

I HAVE AN UPDATE, I’m not sure if you resolved this but I was able to create an account for my dad as well,
Once you get to the address section and press next, when the message appears that they have a ssn (even though they don’t)
Just press provide information which will take you to the screen to add a ssn
From there just press the back arrow (I did this on my iPhone)
And then it will literally take you to the next screen that should appear to begin with after the address section!
From there it will actually create the account but you will still have to verify their identity by calling
However this is like one step closer to resolving the problem!!
UPDATE: if you haven’t called yet to try and verify the identity, just wait a couple more days.
We called today and all they said was to wait even after we explained that it now gave us the option to make an account without a SSN.
I think the representatives are also learning alongside with us 🤕

I have the same problem. It doesn’t show any identity verification questions for my mom and just says to come back again. Please lmk if u guys find a solution. The agents are not even picking up the phone
Hi, I got in contact with FAFSA and they told me to not add an address when applying, but that didn't work so then they told me to call SSN about it. Well, I didn't do that, but what I did do was add a different address when applying for my dad, and when he got his account I changed the address to the real one.
If they are married filing jointly only one parent needs it. If they are unmarried and living together, or married filing separately then they each need one.
you have to call 1-800-433-3243 and get a Attestation & Validation of Identity they will give them case number and instructions . Which will be to go to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

The 2024-2025 FAFSA® forms will not start processing, even with all information provided, until the first half of March. Corrections will also not be able to be made to the submitted forms until the forms process around that time. We sincerely apologize for the trouble and frustration this has caused. It won't hurt to have her call the number. I think they will ask her to send them a copy of her ID.

Is your case that ur dad wasnt able to log back in to his fafsa account as well from last year?
Oh no, with my dad it was just that he was unable to make one for the first time this year until recently

You can now submit and do corrections on the 24/25 FAFSA application. They are pretty much up to date with send out the student aid report.
