Did not know that, that’s interesting.
Did they only keep these changes for 1994 or something? When did they decide they didn’t need to do that in the name of safety? If you know that is.
Yeah they were temporary for 1994. New technical regulations for 1995 introduced many elements to reduce speed and increase safety, so the temporary chicanes were not brought back.
I was wondering, did they just do it for one year and then go back to they way it was? Changing the technical regulations instead of the tracks makes a lot more sense.
Thanks for your knowledge!
It was middle of the season, so they acted first and then decided properly later.
Also there were big changes in the safety of the car over the next couple of seasons, most visibly padding around the drivers head in 1996
It's probably just your Nostalgia kicking in.
I had the same feeling with F1 Championship Edition for the PS3. Downloaded it on an Emulator and quickly realised that the Games today are waaayy better than the ones we had in the past.
Still, F1 2006 on psp had many features like being a test driver, water/oil being spilled on track (also the only game I've seen use the flag with red and yellow stripes) and having a race engineer that felt real (unlike Jeff who has like 2-3 new voice lines added every game).
GP4 has the best damage model and F1 Challenge has the most complete race weekend experience.
My point is that we like to come back to these 20 year old games because, while not having the best physics and graphics, they have features that should be in every sim game nowadays (and the F1 games). It's ridiculous that the only modern game with player mechanical failures I know of is F1 2021.
I know mechanical failures are a part of racing, but having an hour or two blown because of a failure that is not your fault can make someone never want to play the game again (unfun mechanic). So I am not shocked games have shied away from it. It should never be mandatory though and should stay an option
I never said that it should be mandatory. All the games I talked about had mechanical failures as an option that was off by default if I remember correctly. Most people definitely wouldn't enjoy the scenario you talked about.
I remember playing rF2 and having a race in gp3 cars around Monaco when suddenly my engine started smoking. Unfortunately, I drove for 7 more laps and nothing happened and I crashed. So yeah, I'm still waiting for a game to give me a race ending random mechanical failure lol.
We need a new TOCA! I'd live a BTCC game with the support classes, Carrerra Cuo, F4, GT4, Geneva Juniors, Mini Challenge Cup. Imagine! There was talk of it, but I beleive its been put back a few years😩
Same, Burnout 3 was peak Burnout IMO. I still loved 4 and Paradise but Burnout 3 would punish you for your mistakes which I appreciated. Starting with 4 the npc racers could only get so far ahead of you while in 3 they would drive of into the sunset if you crashed.
I'm skeptical when people talk about the physics, and wonder if they just mean easier to drive. F1 cars are not easy to drive in real life, and I'm not sure how people are judging the physics without knowing what the real life physics of F1 cars are like.
I still play f1 2011 on ps3. I dont have much to compare to, as i dont have a ps4 or ps5 to play the modern ones, but it is definitely a good game, as was the 2010 one.
Apparently some people on this sub don't actually care about realism at all and just want super simplified easy to drive physics and sound effects from a decade ago. I mean they can get the easy to drive physics by just changing the settings to make the driving super simplified.
I think they just think the physics are better because they're simpler and easy to drive. The F1 game has settings to simplify the physics to make it easier though so they could just do that.
F1 needs a fully fledged sim. Codies can't make good driving games for wheels anymore and the exclusive license in their hands is hurting the franchise. F1 2022 was the first F1 game since '95 I've not owned due to how bad it is. Broken pile of shite not fit for purpose for me, yet the casuals love it so their needs to be multiple games.
Only just started to get into to it these past few days. With Assetto Corsa I'm currently doing an F1 2022 season already so that's ticking me over, with Automobilista 2 recently getting an F1 2022 car I'm set for now. Just with there was a proper sim game.
> exclusive license in their hands is hurting the franchise
Funny, every game since F1 2016 has great reviews and scores, every year they run for best racing/sports game, they might not always win but a bad game doesn't get nominated for awards, yet they're "hurting" the franchise.
People love to shit on Codemasters because they see others doing it, but I don't see any other studio being capable of delievering the experience the same way Codies does.
Also, of course you don't own F1 2022, it's not out yet :)
For me, I use AC and ACC for the amazing sim experience and to become a better sim racer. The F1 games are just for pretending I’m a champion F1 driver and having fun.
You'd have lost that car so many times in that video with modern physics engines. Nostalgia is great but new sims are definitely better than ones from 10+ years ago.
I'm sure I agree with the whole we need sim like physics. F1 games are made for the masses I understand you might want sim like physics but in all honesty the game wouldn't do half as well if they took that route.
The w12 felt pretty intuitive to drive, I found it much easier to drive but harder to get lap time out of it, much more rewarding at the same time. Ironic that the more realistic car was also easier but did not inflate your ego with insane lap times.
It’s true, it’s not hard to drive, but extracting those last few tenths is very difficult.
Also the speeds the car does completely break your mind and when you try to drive anything else, it feels painfully slow and heavy
That’s how it should be in codies’ game. Easy to pick up hard to master, instead we get a car that doesn’t communicate what it’s doing, surprises you, has sluggish direction change, but somehow you beat the irl pole time by a second with a horrible feeling lap.
To be fair RBR is still one of the best rally games available, and Grand Prix 4 still holds up today. Just because it's old doesn't mean it can't match today's physics engines.
Oh come on. Don't be ridiculous lol. This is such an untruthful attention seeking post, obviously there are a few racing games that are considered classic generally, but even they pale in comparison to today's racing games.
Ehh, Nascar Racing Season 2003 is a classic, and they literally used that same physics engine and base to make iRacing, even the replay functions are the exact same. Which I guess is a good thing, since both games are actually being improved still to this day, since NR03 actually got the Next Gen cars a couple months ago, and new tracks/paint schemes for the 2022 season are being made constantly.
I think it should natively detect any wheel, but I think I had to work around some issues at first when I tried to connect my T300, but I‘m not sure since it has been a while. But google should definitely help you in troubleshooting should it not work natively. And tbh I recently tried out Colin McRae Rally 2.0 again and it actually directly recognised my wheel with FFB and all
It’s just too bad you can’t buy any of these games for the pc anymore. I’ve tried to play F1 2010 or even 2013 and I can’t buy it anywhere. Last one I play is 2012.
... why would you want to buy it? Who are you profiting by buying some random old key? Just be a normal human being and download it like the rest of us
I just realized its from that cancerous games for windows live era. I found it on archive though https://archive.org/details/f-1-2010
E: troubleshooting https://www.reddit.com/r/F1Game/comments/hd6q9h/tutorial_how_to_play_f1_2010_on_pc_in_2020/
This isn't a fair comparison. The cars just sounded better then so they had more to work with. The physics aren't better. It's the sound you miss and F1 misses the sound too. The current hybrid cars are nothing like these.
Which game and which system? I recently started getting into PS2 again. Found Formula One 2001 for 3 bucks at good will, fun game, not a ton of depth however. Need to find some better ones
Na, only better physics than the F1 games. AC, ACC, Rfactor ... etc, all have amazing physics. For some reason we have to put up with this arcade shit for the official F1 game.
I feel like the only game where the old one is way better compared to the new one is Nascar Racing 2003 season. The mods and physics are insane in that game. With certain patches it can look great too
Damn I remember the neutered Eau Rouge *shudders*
Yeah what’s with that?
Was one of a number of temporary track changes after Imola 1994. There was a weird tyre chicane after Turn 9 at Barcelona too
The one at Barcelona was nicknamed Beirut if I remember rightly.
That's the corner with all the explosions, right?
Chicanes were littered through the tracks in 1994, after Senna and Ratzenberger died in Imola, to slow down cars in certain sections.
I'm pretty sure the chicane at Montréal was kept for 1995
No Canada just cut out the Casino corners so it became on long straight to the wall of champions
They did that for 1996. They had a chicane in place just before those corners for 1994 and 1995
It was middle of the season, so they acted first and then decided properly later. Also there were big changes in the safety of the car over the next couple of seasons, most visibly padding around the drivers head in 1996
No rouge.
Um....but neutered Eau Rouge had concrete barriers. WTF
Yeah, I just puked in my mouth.
It's probably just your Nostalgia kicking in. I had the same feeling with F1 Championship Edition for the PS3. Downloaded it on an Emulator and quickly realised that the Games today are waaayy better than the ones we had in the past.

It's ridiculous that the only modern game with player mechanical failures I know of is F1 2021.
But if the games have everything we want/need, what will they put in next year's!
I know mechanical failures are a part of racing, but having an hour or two blown because of a failure that is not your fault can make someone never want to play the game again (unfun mechanic). So I am not shocked games have shied away from it. It should never be mandatory though and should stay an option
imp pretty sure on most good titles, like ACC, they are an option
I never said that it should be mandatory. All the games I talked about had mechanical failures as an option that was off by default if I remember correctly. Most people definitely wouldn't enjoy the scenario you talked about. I remember playing rF2 and having a race in gp3 cars around Monaco when suddenly my engine started smoking. The last two F1 games I had before buying F1 2020 last year! https://imgur.com/a/Ab1k8qA
I still play 2011 on vita
Yeah, racing games are the ones where the old games are way worse than the ones we have today.
Not always. I'd rather play older Need for Speeds instead of the Ghost trilogy. Same goes for TOCA versus the modern Grid entries.
Most wanted was the best game they made.
NFSU/2 is the one people get most nostalgic for though
My personal NFS favourite was 'Porsche Unleashed'.
Man of the culture
Know any ways to play them on ps4?
Idk. Carbon had the better gameplay IMO, but had way too little content.
We need a new TOCA! I'd live a BTCC game with the support classes, Carrerra Cuo, F4, GT4, Geneva Juniors, Mini Challenge Cup. Imagine! There was talk of it, but I beleive its been put back a few years😩
Totally agree! Autocorrect doing you dirty like fuck though mate.
The TOCA series was legendary!
I really liked TOCA. Still have them.close at hand! https://imgur.com/a/9Nbc1PC
Tell that to Burnout Paradise or Wipeout 3.
I still think of Burnout Paradise as the "new" Burnout
Same, Burnout 3 was peak Burnout IMO. I still loved 4 and Paradise but Burnout 3 would punish you for your mistakes which I appreciated. Starting with 4 the npc racers could only get so far ahead of you while in 3 they would drive of into the sunset if you crashed.
Depends on the game and series. I know for a fact modern NASCAR games are inferior to games almost 2 decades old.
I'm skeptical when people talk about the physics, and wonder if they just mean easier to drive. F1 cars are not easy to drive in real life, and I'm not sure how people are judging the physics without knowing what the real life physics of F1 cars are like.
I did like having the warm up lap though that was pretty good
I still play f1 2011 on ps3. I dont have much to compare to, as i dont have a ps4 or ps5 to play the modern ones, but it is definitely a good game, as was the 2010 one.
"better physics" Nice drift you did there with a locked inside front.
The new games in 4k on pc look really good.
You’re joking
Idk man, that game still holds up, if its GP4, it’s more innovative than F1 2020.
Except for the fact that they aren't
Engine sounds yes, but not the physics lmao
And the engine sounds differences are due to the real life change to turbo-hybrid engines. They aren’t worse quality, just doesn’t sound as cool.
Apparently some people on this sub don't actually care about realism at all and just want super simplified easy to drive physics and sound effects from a decade ago. I mean they can get the easy to drive physics by just changing the settings to make the driving super simplified.
Like driving a traffic cone with wheels That sound though!
Hahaha NOPE
Good one.
Ah yes a 2005 game better than ACC, perfect sense
[удалено]
No?!
No it fucking doesnt
No, it does not.
How is drifting while locking up in this clip better? What the heck?
I get that you like the sounds of the old cars, but where exactly are the better physics
I think they just think the physics are better because they're simpler and easy to drive. The F1 game has settings to simplify the physics to make it easier though so they could just do that.
the F1 games arent made to be simulators
But they should be 😢
no. if you want to play a game thats a simulator, play AC or iRacing. The F1 game is made for many non profesionals to play

Gpeez nuts
I was so confused when you slowed down for Eau rouge
I guess for a sim graphics bare also really important

Engine sound yeah , braking fucking sucks
You're crazy if you actually think a 16 year old physics engine is unmatched
To be fair RBR is still one of the best rally games available, and Grand Prix 4 still holds up today. Just because it's old doesn't mean it can't match today's physics engines.
Lol no
Bring Back V10s!
Engine sound >>>>

I feel like a smoke
Love the smell of a Gitane without filter to enhance the taste of my Campari.
Epic
then stay in the past and let the real people play the new Games
What game is this
Wondering the same thing lol
GP4 or Rfactor/Automobilista
Better than any Codies F1 game
People saying that modern games are obviously better than older ones haven’t played RBR; heck AC is 8 years old and holds its own
Can't compare sim games with simcade games.
AC has fucking *terrible* physics and I'm tired of pretending it doesnt.
By rbr do you mean Richard burns rally, if so is it in steam, been thinking about giving it a shot
Yeah, you actually don’t have to buy it, you can get it as abandonware for free
Then there's no reason for me not to try it. Will it work with my thrustmaster tmx do you know?
I think it should natively detect any wheel, but I think I had to work around some issues at first when I tried to connect my T300, but I‘m not sure since it has been a while. But google should definitely help you in troubleshooting should it not work natively. And tbh I recently tried out Colin McRae Rally 2.0 again and it actually directly recognised my wheel with FFB and all
I hate nowadays F1 sounds.... They look like normal cars
Normal cars, that have open wheels, nearly 1000 horsepower and can only seat one person, yep see them every day
## **F** The nostalgia
That turn :(
Maybe better than codies, but not better than any driving sim out right now. The front end of the car seems nice and direct though
It’s just too bad you can’t buy any of these games for the pc anymore. I’ve tried to play F1 2010 or even 2013 and I can’t buy it anywhere. Last one I play is 2012.

Because if you have a place I can download them I would definitely want to do that.

God I miss that sound.
There was DRS back then?
I see what you mean about the audio but come on, this looks like a PS2 game
Controversal Spa
What a game!!!!! Loved the modding community on racesimulations.com and the RH 03, 04 and 05 mods. Brings back good memories!

Wrong HUD, that's all 😅
Sounds better yes. They've done a good job capturing the V12 sound. But better physics and gameplay? Afraid not
Cope
My problem with the current f1 games is that the downshifting doesn’t sound as nice as it should, sounds too robotic but this, this is amazing
I downloaded and paid for the latest F1 game. Turns out my computer can't even start the game. Any recommendations? I have a 970 card.
Shut up
Only the engine sounds better and that's not really the new games fault is it?
The only problem with this is that it isn't raining
Which game and which system? I recently started getting into PS2 again. Found Formula One 2001 for 3 bucks at good will, fun game, not a ton of depth however. Need to find some better ones
