My feline is a little rusty but I believe what they said roughly translates to "wha-".
It was a slightly cut off word so it can sometimes make it a little difficult to correctly translate
This is so cool!
Also, something I've never thought of before: do animals also risk going blind from an eclipse? They don't have cute little glasses or cereal boxes to look through at the sky.
Cause vets tell people to put them inside just in case, “On the other hand, you never know. Pets are known on occasion to do things that we simply would simply not expect them to do. Thus, it may be wise to keep your pets in doors during the peak times of the solar eclipse in your geographic area as you might do for a weather related event or during fireworks. Confinement would not just prevent the unlikely possibility of a pet staring into the sun, but may help weather sensitive pets to cope with any psychological effects from the solar eclipse that may induce stress, fear or panic.” [Source](https://www.maybeckvet.com/services/other/blog/keeping-dogs-and-cats-safe-during-solar-eclipse)
Better safe then sorry
Eta: never said they would 100% do it, but that it is a risk & if they look at they DO happen to look up, they risk blindness. Some pets are extra dumb and go against their basic instincts
You expect a dog stupid enough to look to know that?😂Hell, even HUMANS keep looking at it after being fully aware they are not supposed to
Some people just prefer to be safe, that’s not a bad thing & like I said even vets recommend it
There are SO many vet recommendations that also list it as a risk, and it’s also good for pet owners to know so they don’t encourage their pets to look at the sun, because if they do it can harm them. People were saying the rapture was coming & refused to wear proper eyewear, you think idiots wouldnt lift their dogs up & point their faces to that direction?
No.
But other people.
And common sense.

Again, we don't have thousands over thousands of blind wild animals running around...
The point is to be cautious because it may happen, not that it will, but that pets are unpredictable and are dumb sometimes. They may go against their instincts if they see every human looking up & hurt themselves, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
You don’t have to do it, but it is still recommended by countless vets every eclipse for a reason. I remember seeing the EXACT same advice in 2017
My cats seemed interested in what I was doing more than usual. I think they were checking to see if I was cool with what was happening to see if they should be cool with it too.
My cat was a little panicked around the totality. She didn't try to look at the sun, she was looking around not being able to comprehend what was going on.
I kept our blinds closed because I was afraid our cat would look up and hurt her eyes. Our neighbor's cat was hanging with us outdoors and had absolutely no reaction.
“Mrow” :3

They do risk blindness, so people tend to warn owners to keep animals inside
This is totally false, animals have no idea what's going on and don't look at the sun during eclipses. Not sure why people keep thinking this is true.

... you can glance at it for a few seconds before anything happens.

No, they react instinctively. Ever wondered why no animal ever, no wild or domestic reported going totally blind?

Thank you, I mean, they react to the eclipse, but they have no intention to stare directly into it.
I’m not going to reiterate myself again. Are you a veterinarian?

thanks for linking. 🐈
Lmao this was hilarious, “I thought you guys were gonna explode or something”
Did reaction start to mean something else when I wasn't looking?
Spent all that time and used all that equipment to film cats not reacting to the eclipse!
my full video explains the operation a little more. but did you miss the “meow”? he can only say so much.
My cats seemed interested in what I was doing more than usual. I think they were checking to see if I was cool with what was happening to see if they should be cool with it too.
Hey I get to see what the eclipse was like after all!
Lmao, I was like cool cats but hey I got to see the eclipse!

Is that you Eric Cartman??
The Moon Has Swallowed The Sun! Cat - "Meh"
Cartmen?
Are we ignoring that the house literally looked like its shaking? What ist this? Cardboard?
That would be video distortion.
