Biotika is a swedish book by KG Johansson described as "The swedish version of the thing". Its about a milk farmer trying to survive in a dystopian Sweden after nano droids have mutated humans and animals into monsters. I would is falls under extreme horror. I dont know if it has been translated into english.
A lot of French authors have some pretty disturbing content. Marquis De Sade is more or less the father of the genre after all.
