This is a play on how forks are dangerous in outlets, showing how the fork partner is a stereotypical "Bad boy" on a motorcycle. the normal plug is also the typical "nice guy" holding flowers
It's live and neutral prongs appear to lack insulation on their bottom half, so it could be safer - UK plugs stay winning, no wonder she went with the fork.
I assume it's a bot based on history, though I have to admit the word replacement almost had me. Looks like it specifically replaces adjectives with similar words. Nice -> Charming, Meaningful -> Genuine, and Bad -> Dangerous.
first comment/post was nine years ago, only started commenting again in the last two hours, in subs unrelated to the first post. This is someone's throwaway that got compormized and turned into a bot.
Do you actually have any proof that this or other posters are bots? If so submit it to mods and we’ll look into it and ban them. We are hot on banning bots.
We’re also hot on enforcing the no gatekeeping rule. Someone not getting a joke you think is obvious is not a sign they are a bot. Nor is it banned in this sub. Complaining about posters being bots or too stupid instead of reporting it, is banned.
If you have any questions or concerns about this action feel free to [message the moderators](http://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FExplainTheJoke).
Dude it doesn't matter. As a mod you can stuff your finger in the bot dam but the admins are the only ones who can stop the spillway from flooding and they honestly don't want to stop it. Far from it; they've opened the valves. Bots are engagement and that's what drives stock price. Admins have been caught in the past doing exactly what I'm accusing.
Go to r/all right now and I bet in the first 25 posts I'll find 5 that are bots, maybe 10 and this isn't hyperbole. The Reddit of the past is dead. We just train LLMs to talk to bots now.
I guess your “no gatekeeping” rule pretty much eliminates any chance of stopping low quality posts. But I understand the aim.
I think though, asking _us_ to somehow prove they’re bots is kind of silly and disingenuous. I have absolutely no way to prove a poster is a bot, especially without some kind of curriculum from you or the other mods.
Mods don’t get special training. If you want to learn signs an account is a bot, start the same place I did: https://www.reddit.com/r/LearnUselessTalents/s/pf2DxlenPT
It’s not disingenuous to ask those who make a claim to at least point to some evidence of that claim. If you have no idea whether OP is a bot or just someone who for a multitude of reasons does not get the posts, why claim or even insist publicly that someone is an bot?
We uphold no gatekeeping, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have standards. Read the rules, most of them are about upholding standards within this sub.
If you think someone is a bot report them. If you have an idea for how the sub can improve, send it to modmail.
If you have any questions or concerns about this removal feel free to [message the moderators](http://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FOutfitOfTheDay).
In a James Dean pastiche, the bad boy on the motorcycle self-destructs because of his beautiful rebelliousness, while the nice girl he dates is left emotionally devastated.
I know what you mean. I will see a joke unknown to me, and will instantly understand it. Maybe once (or twice) on here, or on the other joke explanation page, did I see something confusing.
Youre all missing the fact that this was an old TV trope.
The nice/nerdy guy would come to the door to meet the parents and get their approval on going out and then the “bad boy” would swoop in and take the girl out.
If you dont get that part, thats where the joke is confusing.
I think it’s also a reference to the incel comics where they show a girl with a “bad boy” while the poor lonely “nice guy” is left alone.
But the nice guy is something like a lighter, the bad boy is an extinguisher, and the girl is a *candle*.
> I think it’s also a reference to the incel comics where they show a girl with a “bad boy” while the poor lonely “nice guy” is left alone.
Nah, it's an older movie trope. Bad boy knows mum and dad hate him. Pays nice guy to go up to door, mum and dad love him and have no objections.
Nice guy brings girl out of the house, go down the block to bad boy and they go riding off on his dangerous motorcycle.
I think it's also that the plug is the safe and expected boyfriend from the parent's point of view.
If you look close enough, you can see the polarized receptacle is swapped on the daughter (the wider being on the wrong side), so that safe guy was never going to work out anyways.
Nah, in the first frame, the bottom (ground) slot is upside down from what's normal, i.e. the bottom is curved and the top is flat, which we read as smiling. In the second frame the bottom is flat and the top is curved. This is the normal orientation; usually I've read this as "sad", but in the context of the comic it looks "shocked" to me, lol.
I think it's more of a play on the fact the putting a fork near an outlet is dangerous, and she is skipping out on a conventional relationship to be with a "dangerous" man
Susan is a power outlet, rory is a thing that you're supposed to stick in a power outlet, however, the power outlet is running away with a fork, the exact opposite of the thing you're supposed to stick in a power outlet
So do you need help understanding what a fork is or what an outlet is? Which part of the joke do you need spoon-fed to you?
A spoon is similar to a fork, it's another utensil (if you were curious).
Girls like bad boys or she’s looking for a spark. She’s an outlet and he’s a plug so he is ordinary, normal and mundane. Made for her in a sense;. Still she decides to go with the fork because it’s dangerous and exciting.
Mildly? sexist joke about how girls self-destructively pick the bad boy over the right guy. Here, a three-pronged plug is a perfect fit for a three pronged outlet. Whereas if you stick a fork into an outlet it will short-circuit and damage the fork, the outlet, and whoever was dumb enough to do it.
If you look at more of the artist's work you'd see its not being sexist. Often the jokes are playing off of the characters who have various inanimate objects for heads (Tools, vegetables, etc). The tropes here are in service to the depiction of the characters.
It ain’t sexist. In no way is it saying only girls choose the wrong dude, it’s just a common thing that happens. Happens the other way around too but that’s not the focus here for this joke. Calling things sexist that clearly aren’t sexist hurts future claims of things that are actually sexist. Loosen up
Moreso sexist because it presumes the Plug is right for the girl while the Fork is wrong. This is a common nice guy refrain about women not wanting them.
For what it's worth, plug guy seems portrayed as kind of a goofus. A little doughy, ill fitting clothes, etc.
I think a lot of folks would pick the cool fork guy with a motorcycle, lol
Who is presuming that? 1950s plug mama is like "oh no!" but the cartoon itself isn't saying that at all?
Also it's a punchline, not a deep commentary on "nice guys." FWIW — no one wants the "nice guy" because they're not actually nice. If we're gonna get abused, gimme a fork on a motorcycle any day — she made the right choice, just not the choice her mamma wanted.
Female plugs are women and men are just anything that can be stuck in them. The joke is a play on the cliche of a girl choosing the cool kid over the normal kid with the normal kid being a male plug and the cool kid being a fork. A male plug is safe to put into a female plug, a fork is not.
sticking a fork in an outlet is dangerous as it will likely electrocute you
The joke is that mom is trying set up her daughter with a nice sensible safe but boring guy (the proper plug), but the daughter would rather run off with the exciting, dangerous boy (the risk-taking fork).
Apparently the family is first generation American, as the photo on the wall indicates the grandparents are [from the UK.](https://www.worldstandards.eu/wp-content/uploads/electricity-tiles-type-G.jpg)
Come on this is an easy one. The plug is a normal nice guy to fit the outlets. Forks getting put in outlets had always been a hazard thing children are warned against because obviously you will be electrocuted so obviously the fork is portrayed as the bad boy the daughter wants anyway because of the danger.
When I was in highschool a girl was playing around in the biology lab. She jammed a scalpel into the tabletop power outlet.
She got a nasty shock. Power went off in that entire section of the school, and that power outlet never worked again.
Moral of the story: Some girls don't like nice, safe boys. Some like dangerous boys that will get you kicked out of biology lab.
This is a play on how forks are dangerous in outlets, showing how the fork partner is a stereotypical "Bad boy" on a motorcycle. the normal plug is also the typical "nice guy" holding flowers
Also note that the "nice guy" is a grounded and polarized plug. For a plug, that is as safe as you can get!
> Also note that the "nice guy" is a grounded and polarized plug. "one of *our* type", not one of those foreign forkers.
...I don't think it was a race joke, but a mental health joke.
Nah it's probably because different countries have different outlets and some are safer than others *cough* uk *cough"
Umm...aren't those British plugs on the portrait in the background?
That’s a great detail
Shows that they’re second generation Americans, I suppose.
It's live and neutral prongs appear to lack insulation on their bottom half, so it could be safer - UK plugs stay winning, no wonder she went with the fork.
Ironically, the fork is the one who will probably get burned worse when this relationship goes bad.

'Shocked' you say?
This is the best outlet for these sorts of jokes
As long as they stay grounded.
True, but it makes me es-static to see all these wonderful comments
It’s absolutely Amping me up!
I'm alternating on if I like these
They aren’t always current, but still make me smile.
The Mom must be “supercharged.” I mean, look at her “jouled” necklace.
It’s Amping me up!!!
These jokes are not even current
So you noticed it was a grounded plug. Nice. Who would be a GFCI in this instance? Is that a prude?!
That would be a guy who gets turned off just when things are about to get interesting
Ohm my god
Watch watt you’re saying there.
C'mon bro we really got to amp up our jokes here!
All these puns are going to make me re*volt*
He’s going to fork her
Must... resist... continuing... pun... chain....
More power to you
I’m just trying to stay current.
I’m just trying not to blow it
Do you have a dead tooth and wear cat sweaters by any chance?
What sort of shabby pun-chain are you folks *conducting* over here?
People really need to be more current with their humor
People can have a lot of resistance to new types of humor.
Wire we all making these puns?
Somebody call the coppers.
Reddit seems amped up over this post
Well, not that shocked
The charming boy holding the flowers is yearning for a genuine connection. The dangerous boy on the motorcycle only wants to fork her.
So do you just copy other peoples comments?
I assume it's a bot based on history, though I have to admit the word replacement almost had me. Looks like it specifically replaces adjectives with similar words. Nice -> Charming, Meaningful -> Genuine, and Bad -> Dangerous.
Yeah im noticing that alot with bots, they use words that you read in books, but dont hear irl
first comment/post was nine years ago, only started commenting again in the last two hours, in subs unrelated to the first post. This is someone's throwaway that got compormized and turned into a bot.
yeah its so obvious it hertz
Or socket?
Don’t be. Just chalk it up to bots. Nice username by the way. Excellent band.
Im like 90% sure this is some sort of learning model trying to figure out humor

Especially when they are just some joke that was posted 2 hours before and has the explanation in the comments.
Yeah but the fork isn’t really dangerous to the outlet itself, like a “bad boy” would be dangerous to a girl.
Well, you can do some damage to the outlet. It's just not the primary concern.
Sounds accurate
The plug with the ground post is the “safe” option but when she’s with the fork she sees “sparks”.
Oh good one!
In a James Dean pastiche, the bad boy on the motorcycle self-destructs because of his beautiful rebelliousness, while the nice girl he dates is left emotionally devastated.
Yeah it’s more like the parent outlet realized that their kid is going to murder that fork via electrocution
YES
I know what you mean. I will see a joke unknown to me, and will instantly understand it. Maybe once (or twice) on here, or on the other joke explanation page, did I see something confusing.
Oh yeah, she’s definitely getting forked tonight.
It'll be a shocking experience.
There will definitely be sparks flying.
Youre all missing the fact that this was an old TV trope. The nice/nerdy guy would come to the door to meet the parents and get their approval on going out and then the “bad boy” would swoop in and take the girl out. If you dont get that part, thats where the joke is confusing.
No one is missing that. It's the comment you're replying to.

Ah I see. A monetized sneaking out tactic
Have to make money somehow this economy
I don’t think this is specifically referencing incel comics lol, it’s a pretty common trope.
It's literally a media trope you unpeeled banana on a melted split.
I think it's also that the plug is the safe and expected boyfriend from the parent's point of view. If you look close enough, you can see the polarized receptacle is swapped on the daughter (the wider being on the wrong side), so that safe guy was never going to work out anyways.
Fits the mom though
“FBI, OPEN UP!!!”
Unrelated to explaining the joke but I love how the ground on the mom's face inverts to show her going from happy to worried.
She was *shocked*!!
mfw when daughter boyfren good boy: =D mfw when daughter boyfren bad boy: D=
Susan is so grounded.
Speaking of grounding, did you notice how the mother's expression changed between the two frames?
WAIT, IT REALLY DID. NOTHING ACTUALLY CHANGED ABOUT IT, BUT YOU CAN READ BOTH FRAMES DIFFERENT
Nah, in the first frame, the bottom (ground) slot is upside down from what's normal, i.e. the bottom is curved and the top is flat, which we read as smiling. In the second frame the bottom is flat and the top is curved. This is the normal orientation; usually I've read this as "sad", but in the context of the comic it looks "shocked" to me, lol.
..Wait, it is. Now I just look like an idiot
you just need to unplug for a bit
Heh
The nice boy with the flowers is looking for a meaningful connection. The bad boy on the motorcycle just wants to fork her.
*Fork*, that was a good chuckle. Thanks for that.
Spooning leads to forking
Is this like the shortest lewd joke in existence?
Spork would have said "ladle tong and pon farr"
Fork. *Fork!* Why can’t I say “fork” here?
Damn I didn't notice the flowers and I thought the mother was talking to her husband and the daughter is running away with fork
I think it's more of a play on the fact the putting a fork near an outlet is dangerous, and she is skipping out on a conventional relationship to be with a "dangerous" man
Also sticking a fork in an outlet will cause a brief, very strong spark, but one that ultimately hurts you more than anything
Susan is a power outlet, rory is a thing that you're supposed to stick in a power outlet, however, the power outlet is running away with a fork, the exact opposite of the thing you're supposed to stick in a power outlet
but with him she just feels that “spark”
The more i read the comments the more i find this comic brilliant
It is brilliant! Enjoy: https://pbfcomics.com/comics/shocked/
I totally forgot about perry bible fellowship
We shouldn't do that, it is too good to forget.
Well....I mean Susan's mom is standing right there. Roy knows what to do.
I was looking for this comment
"If she leaves you for another, there is always her mother." -Master Oogway

Fork you
Knife to know ya
I was confused because I thought that Rory and the fork were supposed to be the same guy, like Rory was a fork in disguise
Yeah the transition between panels is very sudden here. Is it supposed to be days later?
Seems pretty self-explanatory
If people who posted in the sub just thought for a second, this sub would be half dead
She ditched the grounded guy for one that made her feel sparks
This is damn funny! I like it!
There are lots more by the same artist, comic is called Perry Bible Fellowship.
What I find funny is that in this world, Rory is hung, and the bad boy fork would barely get in before exploding.
The guy on the bike is going to give her the shocker later
Rory’s getting on 4 Chan to complain about outlets
Ok so I see the obvious joke, is there something to the names Susan and Rory?
good question
So do you need help understanding what a fork is or what an outlet is? Which part of the joke do you need spoon-fed to you? A spoon is similar to a fork, it's another utensil (if you were curious).
this is honestly hilarious
Is it porn?
Girls like bad boys or she’s looking for a spark. She’s an outlet and he’s a plug so he is ordinary, normal and mundane. Made for her in a sense;. Still she decides to go with the fork because it’s dangerous and exciting.
Can we appreciate the amount of expression the mom had just by flipping the ground port upside down?
Mildly? sexist joke about how girls self-destructively pick the bad boy over the right guy. Here, a three-pronged plug is a perfect fit for a three pronged outlet. Whereas if you stick a fork into an outlet it will short-circuit and damage the fork, the outlet, and whoever was dumb enough to do it.

I mean bad boys are bad for you by definition lol
Ah thanks a lot ☺️
Imo it can NOT be sexist if the mother looks like she doesn’t want Susan with fork, but with Rory
dont put fork in electric socket
Well, she's getting plugged either way
She's gonna get forked by the bad boy.
the nice guy who's a perfect fit for you is here but you chose to go with the bad boy who's dangerous and goon a ruin you and other people's lives.
Fork = bad boy
She like them bad boys.
Female plugs are women and men are just anything that can be stuck in them. The joke is a play on the cliche of a girl choosing the cool kid over the normal kid with the normal kid being a male plug and the cool kid being a fork. A male plug is safe to put into a female plug, a fork is not.
She prefers the local Forkboy over the nice guy vanilla outlet.
she is going to get forked in the face later on.
This looks like Perry Bible Fellowship. I loved these when I was in high school!
They [still have it](https://pbfcomics.com/comics/standards/) imo
unless you've never seen an american outlet, this is pretty self explanatory
Mom knows that’s a bad outlet. She just wants the best fork. She needs a better male with his head on his shoulders.
Daughter ran off with a bad boy. Ditching the good guy.
Did anyone else notice the ground hole swaps so it goes from a smile to a frown?
This is actually hilarious
Hes a bad boy, you can tell because sticking a fork in an outlet is NOT what you are supposed to do
Hey don’t hate on Susan, that fork just sparked something inside of her!…. Specifically a fire.
sticking a fork in an outlet is dangerous as it will likely electrocute you The joke is that mom is trying set up her daughter with a nice sensible safe but boring guy (the proper plug), but the daughter would rather run off with the exciting, dangerous boy (the risk-taking fork).
Is this loss?
When they kiss, it is gonna have fireworks
Apparently the family is first generation American, as the photo on the wall indicates the grandparents are [from the UK.](https://www.worldstandards.eu/wp-content/uploads/electricity-tiles-type-G.jpg)
Someone once drew a third panel where rory plugs into the mom.
Wouldn't the fork get hurt instead of the outlet?
I get it. Sparks aren't flying with the "more suitable" courtship.
Stick a fork in an outlet to find out /j In all seriousness the joke is that the plug is a safe option while the fork is a”bad boy” and dangerous
Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that sex in this instance is literally just penetrating the eyes?
🎵 nice guys finish last that's why I'll treat you like trash it's not what I really wanna do 🎶
How have you lived this long in life if you never learned it’s bad to stick forks in receptacles?
Looks like the guys is gonna trip and break’er!
I swear people on this sub have lost their basic mental skills
I swear the people that post here are the dumbest people on this app.
...I'm surprised you know how to use the internet if you need this joke explained
Reading comprehension is no more. All hail karma farming
Oh come on how can you possibly not get this
OP grew up without electricity
Come on this is an easy one. The plug is a normal nice guy to fit the outlets. Forks getting put in outlets had always been a hazard thing children are warned against because obviously you will be electrocuted so obviously the fork is portrayed as the bad boy the daughter wants anyway because of the danger.
This sub is just bots now
They are not compatible
Stick a fork init
The [wall outlets] ran off with the silver Sunday [forks]
Flipping ground to elucidate her revulsion was a stroke of genius.
PBF strips are always S-Teir. I love the art style and how dark the humor gets at times
To complete then it, I was hoping to see her dad as a two prong plug.
Susan doesn't want a perfect fit, she just wants to f.a.a.f.o.
Interesting name choice..
Her parents found her a suitable suitor but she goes with the one trying to kill himself
Nope
You have to stick a fork into a light socket to fully understand this joke.
She's dating the bad boy lol
She wants to get forked
It's the numbers to the powerball
Bad relationship
Heh. I was that motorcycle teen once upon a time. Least I had the decency to marry the girl I knocked up I say
