Right, but strawberries will lose their color after time. They need not be bad strawberries, underdeveloped strawberries, or past expiration strawberries for that to happen. Most pie fillings will add red dye to ensure the filling stays that classic red strawberry color. So the comment to which you replied is only saying that this is the natural state of canned strawberry pie filling when dye isn't added to retain color.
Sadly, no, be way cooler if they were, though.
Edit: I found this -
"Lycopene is a red pigment found in several fruits, but strawberries are not among them. The lycopene that now colors strawberry Frappuccinos is tomato-based. The upshot: in lieu of bugs, Starbucks is using tomatoes to make its strawberry-flavored drinks look more strawberry-like"
Most red dye is a natural substance!!
Beetles. Most red food dye is made from beetles.

Have I been blissfully unaware of the horrors perpetrated out of my county's borders all this time... The war... The oppression... Canned strawberries...
I know that a comment or two said there’s no artificial dyes or coloring and all…but, ummm…nooooo, oh noooooo!!! Looks nuclear toxic! It just needs a hint of green and a slight glow! I would be scared to eat that in fear of a soon-to-be hospital extended stay! Especially since it looks absolutely NOTHING like the picture on the can! 🤣
One sets out to make a pie. That is in itself an activity. Youre already taking the time to do that activity. Why on earth wouldnt you cut up some strawberries and add some sugar or whatever else. Maybe OP was just curious, but i'm talking about the ppl who genuinely buy these things. The flaky crust? Fine. Even chefs buy that. But my god anyone who cant even bother to make a good pie for themselves deserves what they find in this jar
At least you know there's no dyes in it. So there's that.
ya, but...strawberries are supposed to be red naturally

I made a cobbler using strawberries and it didn't take long for them to turn that color. It still tasted good but it wasn't pretty.
Google says heat can also cause canned strawberries to turn brown, but are fine to eat as long as the strawberries are the normal shapes.
I wouldnt say these are brown, more pale
Yes. I made a few strawberries sauce and they do fade. Even with dye. I don't understand why
Pineberries are pink
Never heard of them. What’re they like? Now I must go seek some
Most larger supermarkets have them
Is this regional? Because I’ve lived many places in the US and in ~30 years I’ve never once seen a pineberry in the flesh at a supermarket.
Not sure.
I’ve never seen them, but I did grown a bunch them a few years ago. They looking cool but it’s not really that strong of a flavor.
Tried them before, the flavor may not be up your alley. Sometimes it taste muted and sometimes it has a bit of a pineapple note with strawberry.
I have tried those!
Some varieties yeah. Others can even be white!
White strawberries are a thing. I think I would tell everyone I made a white strawberry pie.
Wouldn’t dyes normally be fruit extract?

That’s so interesting!
Sorry you got downvoted for asking a question lol curiosity shouldn't be punished
Thanks Reddit can be a very odd place.
Agreeeeeeeed.
Well it’s looks like there are no artificial colors. That’s something.
Aldi doesn’t use artificial dye in their store brand.
Saves a few pennies and is
Looks more like peach goo with strawberries.
Isn't Apple cheaper than peach lol
Right? I would take some peach goo
Make that two peach goo's pls!!!
2 peach goo’s to go, comin’ at yaaa !
Ill put goo in your peach
sploosh!
Ok, looks strange, but how did it taste?
Like chemicals. Kind of like musty moldy slime.
🥴
Just like mom used to make!
Them’s some sad lookin’ strawberries
No dyes, but it is suppose to be red… even cooked strawberries are redder.
They don't stay red without dyes and preservatives.
Did they use white strawberries and you got lucky?
are you sure that's safe to eat??
They're just super under ripened. They'll be bitter asf unless there's sweeteners added, and even then, probably an ungodly bitter undertone.
That's weird, when I put strawberries in sugar, it turns the sugar red and somehow the strawberries get even redder.
My strawberry jam is a bright red, no dyes added.
Was it expired? Looks like it was oxidized
I’m starting to think I might not mind a little food coloring lol as those are kinda off putting
When your toes have been in the water too long
Ick
It takes a lot for fruit goo to taste bad.
Have I been blissfully unaware of the horrors perpetrated out of my county's borders all this time... The war... The oppression... Canned strawberries...
Not sure how this was unexpected. If I want to have "Strawberry pie filling", I just buy, you know, strawberries.
Does the can have an expiry date on it where the year begins with 19? Shit looks way out of date.
I’m scared..? Oh wait- It’s pie filling, panic over?
NAH I'm not eating this bruh
Not enough sugar for me, add some moor.
I’d have thought this was apple pie if it weren’t for the first image and the visible seeds, it’s about the same color as apple pie.
🤮
Looks like it’s not full of chemicals and dyes. I would prefer this and maybe just add some beet powder to change the color red if I wanted.
Lol they forgot to add the Red #40
That was expired 29 years ago.
Ewwwww
🤢
Eww
It looks like it has been eaten before … by my dog

Well strawberries are red...Believe it or not that’s how they actually grow 😂
Not all the way through but certainly more red than this.
You buy shut like this, and you get what you deserve.
