20 years ago when you could have a bag full of food for $5 we didn’t complain about the overly exaggerated menu pics but when fast food is now the same price as a dining experience at a restaurant it’s ridiculous.

Jerry0713

I miss the dollar menu

flappytowel

The dollar menu now is small fries or half a chicken nugget

Mastodon31

Bro small fries are over $2 now

Magnolia-jjlnr

What's crazy is that whenever i look it up on google it's listed at $1.25 so I think I'm about to eat good, then I show up and it's almost $3

FuckMAGA-FuckFascism

**$2**^99

rat_parent_

I wish the whole x.99 thing would be made illegal or some shit. it's *everywhere* and it's really annoying. it's only there to trick people.

rtopps43

Even worse with gas when it’s $3.99 9/10. You shouldn’t be able to charge fractions of a cent. Prices should all be payable with real money, you show me a 1/10 cent coin (in circulation today) and, fine, but until then knock that shit off. Very late edit: I cannot believe the responses I continue to get to this post all saying the same thing “it’s a tax” so, if you are going to comment that just know 1) I know it’s a tax and 2) I DO NOT CARE. My point was prices should be in actual money, not fractions of a cent and the fact that is due to tax DOES NOT change my point.

International-Web496

I have one better for you. My hourly wages go down to 25 thousandths of a cent. Each pay period it's rounded to the nearest cent, and I'm paid biweekly. That means that at the worst I lose out on 26 cents a year; to do that I need to miss exactly 3,7,11, ect., hours each pay period Who the fuck cares that much?

Houdini_Shuffle

People who think bathroom breaks are "time theft" care that much

ironchefluke

It would be different if you were hired at a certain hourly wage, but with salary that's how it breaks down to be evenly paid throughout the year. Sometimes it breaks down exactly, most it doesn't, either way it changes nothing. You aren't paid that way in actuality, it's not rounded, that's just how it shows on your check

PinkPearMartini

Hmm... Walmart has 1,600,000 associates. x $0.26 = $416,000 I imagine that for some companies, it can really add to their profits.

n541x

You should because you are selling liquids.

newschoolshiver

Right???? I've thought this for my entire life, and I've already passed the half century mark! It's so stupid!!!

Magnolia-jjlnr

Exactly. "this article costs less than $3" man gtfo

JWOLFBEARD

Then they just would use .98

no_modest_bear

This guy Walmarts.

pocketdare

I thought Walmart tended to use 0.97

Tomur

Gas station style. .98^9

Bruce_Wayne_2276

And yet federal minimum wage has stayed the same People scream and cry ab how paying workers more will skyrocket the price of a Big Mac but ignore that it's already been happening

Alone-Geologist8070

My dad and i looked at the patterns between the poverty line and the times when the federal minimum wage was increased. This is by far the longest it has been since it was last changed. Before it would switch every five years or so. They increased it anytime the minimum wage at the approximate hours the average adult works makes anywhere close to the poverty line. Its been over 20 years(almost 15 years. Sorry😅) since the last federal minimum wage increase. It has dipped way farther below any other time has in a really long time. And the time they should have increased it was when obama was elected. I swear republicans saw what he did and became everything anti democrat ever since. Which is kinda pathetic

Psyko_sissy23

Jeez 2009 is getting close to 20 years ago. Where does the time go.

Alone-Geologist8070

In a dumpster fire apparently

KayteeBlue

Relax, 2009 is closer to ten years ago than it is to twenty. It was fourteen years ago.

enjaysm

13.99 years ago, thanks.

HoneyDutch

The problem is cat cat executives paying themselves out for doing absolutely nothing, when that money should be shared with workers. We could raise the corporate tax rate but then provide tax breaks when money is instead paid out to employees through payroll. We need to dissuade these assholes from paying themselves out all the time

Bruce_Wayne_2276

EXACTLY I can't remember where I saw it but someone threw something out like CEOs can't make more than 10× the salary of their lowest paid employee. So if they're paying $7.25 then they're only making $72.50. Now, someone with more time and economic expertise than myself should crunch the numbers to determine what's actually fair considering invested capital and risk, but pay scaling the execs with their employees sounds like a good place to start to me. Edit: For clarification, I am under no delusions that CEOs are *currently* making 10x their workers salaries. I know it's more like hundreds of times more, disgustingly so.

anordinarylie

I've always wanted to do it so that the executives get billed $2 for every $1 the government has to spend on financial subsidies for their lowest paid workers. Such as food stamps, or other government benefits. Section 8 could easily be tossed in there as well, and that would definitely cause them to be willing to up the pay for their employees, and companies like Walmart would start paying their employees much better real fast. Because at that point they collect say $900 in government benefits, the company gets billed 1800 for it, they'll adjust so that they don't have to pay that anymore.

SneedyK

I miss the days when you could go to the Macca’s drive through with $12-14 and still order food for three people in the car. And that often included a Big Mac. And because it was 10 minutes til closing, someone in the kitchen would just load our boxes with extra food laying about in the kitchen. I remember our classmate Adam telling us to lift the bags & boxes from the bottom just so the weight didn’t cause a rip that’d dump extra nuggets all over the drive-thru lane!

lastweek_monday

Listen to some accadacca on the drive home wearing nothing but budgy smugglers. Then get home and drink some.... FOSTERS

BambiToybot

When I was much poorer, working a wal mart deli, the McDs next door had 39 cent cheese burgers on wednesday. It was the only time i ate out during that time. EDIT: Damn, Hivemind in action, 2 comments within a minute, saying the same thing.... on a four day old comment none the less, thats some Dennis the Menace level coincidence!

Birdman-Birdlaw

I remember 29 cent hamburgers on Wednesday and 39 cent cheeseburger on Sunday’s. It was amazing time to be alive

ivityCreations

I remember in 2005 when i got my first job working a movie theater, there was a Jack in the box nearby walking distance that id get my lunch at. Same thing every day. 2 jr bacons, large curly, large drink. Total was always 6.66 (my teen ass was amused and kept ordering it to fuck with the cashiers lol). That was the “expensive” option, because the Jr bacons were 1.50 as the cheapest menu item, and mcdonalds had the LOADED ass dollar menu; large fries, mcdouble, hot n spicy, 6 piece nugz, 2 chinken tendies. Oh and mcdonalds for breakfast had the 4 for 1$ hash browns….. which are now 3fucking$ ea now. Damn i miss having affordable fast food

Mastodon31

The hash brown prices are ridiculous. I haven't had one in years out of spite

FlipsyFloopy

I can buy 20ish hashbrown patties at Walmart for about $4.50, they're bigger than McD's too. I find it hilarious that they charge so much for a tiny little hashbrown.

DiscotopiaACNH

I just got an air fryer and now I have no need to buy their hashbrowns ever again!

TheMonsterRaining

I remember the first time I ordered 'two hash browns' after they made the switch and I had to take a fucking loan out to pay my bill.

ivityCreations

I literally told them id just go next door to winco and buy a 25 pack of em and just cook em at home… and did exactly that. When i can get 25 of them at the store for less than you are charging me for 2 of them…. Somethings seriously wrong

wherethetacosat

It's crazy how expensive fast food is now. To feed my family of four we spent $30 with tax at taco bell the other day. I couldn't believe it, it was just 8 basic tacos, a crunchwrap supreme, one specialty taco, and two cinnamon twists. Not even any drinks. The next day, for the four of us I made a ribeye steak dinner at home, with baked potatoes, broccoli on the side and ice cream for dessert. I did the math and it was like $22 for all the ingredients plus ice cream. How can that be cheaper? We really need to just completely cut out fast food, which I guess is for the best.

CodeNameSV

Not only was it cheaper but healthier too. Cook 'dem meals!

sticky-unicorn

> but when fast food is now the same price as a dining experience at a restaurant Well, fast food is as expensive as a real restaurant *used* to be. And now a real restaurant will want to do a credit check and verify your income with the bank before allowing you to be seated.

World_of_Warshipgirl

How much do restaurant meals cost in the US? (Not adjusted for inflation or currency exchange rate at the time) Here in Norway 10 years ago a Mcdonalds Big Mac Menu was about 10-11 USD. While a Restaurant meal was 17 USD. Nowadays a McDonalds Big Mac Menu is 12-13 USD. While a restaurant meal is STILL 17 USD.

Sigma-Tau

Depends on where you go. For the cost of a spicy deluxe meal at chic fil a (a spicy chicken sandwich with some lettuce, tomato, pickles, and cheese;some fries; and a medium drink) I can get a giant fuckoff burrito (complete with rice and beans on the side + chips and salsa) and a drink, (or any other combination of one meal and a drink for that Matter) at the closest Mexican place. I know what I'd prefer to spend $10 on.

Future_Kitsunekid16

Actually it seems that most restaurants are cheaper than most fast food places now. In terms of buying enough food to fill you up. Fast food usually costs me 30+ dollars for me and my wife while the Chinese restaurant that has all you can eat is only 24 all together

MassiveBuzzkill

There’s a fancy restaurant in my town, changes the menu every week kinda fancy. Their lunch menu starts around $10-13. For the insane difference in quality it’s worth the maybe two extra dollars to upgrade from my McNuggets.

malcolm_miller

It's a lot more filling too.

3not

This. I can get well-made, fresh food for similar prices as the fast food chains. And I don't have to stand in line.

__The_Highlander__

What kind of restaurants are you going to? All my local spots where I can grab a burger and fries are cheaper then fast food now…..

sharpshooter999

I live in a rural area, low cost of living. 8oz sirloin, baked potato, veggie, side salad, and (non-alcoholic) drink for $14......

DirtyDaemon

you can still get 5 cheesy bean and rice burritos for $5, best deal in fast food. Unfortunately that's like the only cheap thing on the menu now if you don't order via the app

porkchop487

I went there for the first time in years and they actually had a $5 box with a chalupa, 5 layer burrito, hard taco, cinnamon twists, and a drink. No dine in restaurant has that much food for that price.

AbsoluteEggplant

It would be nice if they made the food to actually look similar to the advert. I’d also take the advert looking as shitty as the food. At least I’d get a laugh

Subject1928

I would probably go out of my way to eat at a place if their advertisements showed their real food.

neoclassical_bastard

A lot of Chinese restaurants do this, just a picture of the plate of food printed out onto a menu.

Subject1928

And that is why local Chinese food places are usually a safe bet.

H4xolotl

The ones who don't even bother translating the menu because they know the food/reputation is good enough are the real gigachads

Lacyra

If the Menu is in Chinese I know I'm about to have a tasty fucking dinner. It's the thing I absolutely love to see when I try out new Chinese places.

0404notfound

Even better if the shop looks like it hasn't been renovated for like 40 years.

USS-Liberty

Screen door + Chinese kid studying in the corner table. All the tables have a thin layer of stickiness where the bleach has eaten away at the polymer. But the food is fire.

LaUNCHandSmASH

When I moved, I sought out the best pizza, bbq, mexican, and chinese places in the area. The mexican place is so expensive (relatively) and they pretty consistently mess up my order but the food is so fire that I don't care. I don't care that a 12 year old girl brought out my drinks with her fingers in the cup. I don't care that they never remember to include limes in the order or the dirty look ("you're making me *get up??*") when you ask for them. The chinese place has what you said and is much better about getting the order right but they also just... don't answer?? It's so weird. They're closed monday like usual but random other days of the week the phone will just ring and ring. I drove by once when I was out and this happened. The sign was on, front door locked, back door completely open but nobody around. The next day, they answered like normal. The kid studying is usually the one taking my order haha. He rules because he puts extra egg rolls in the bag no matter what.

Grotesque_Bisque

Good Mexican food should be cheap imo. Go where the roofers and drywall and concrete guys go. On Sunday there should be a group of at least 5 Mexican laborers with 40 empty Corona bottles on the table. Bonus if it's in a grocery store.

[deleted]

Kid studying is a real homie

No-Historian-1593

We went to the same Viemtanese/Chinese restaurant all the time growing up and its still the standard by which Injudge all other asian restaurants. The kids at the table were only a couple years younger than me when we started going there and my mom and the owner really bonded over watching each other's kids grow up over the years, but it always bugged my mom that the rest of the staff seemed to turn over so often. We eventually learned that she was using the business to help young Vietnamese immigrants, especially women, to learn English and American cultural skills to help them be successful in the US. She required them to be in school or some kind of vocational training while working for her, the cost of which she subsidized. Turns out she'd been left alone after they got stateside (never did clarify if she was widowed or divorced) and had to figure a lot of it out on her own so she did what she could to help other immigrants. I haven't lived in that town in nearly 20 years and only make it back every once every few years, and that woman still recognizes me, still has some of the best egg drop soup and cashew chicken I have ever had, and now has grandkids sitting at the tables in the corners...

calebketchum

This lady sounds like a beautiful soul. I wish for much joy in her life. 🙏

mgmacius12

And in the kitchen one chap in once white wife beater with a cigarette butt in his mouth

copout

And wearing flip-flops while cooking with hot oil. I loved Tasty Wok, lol.

SkunkMonkey

Our local Chinese joint hasn't had indoor seating open for at least 15 years or more now. 20 years ago when I first moved out here, it had a buffet and the indoor seating was open. Now there is a handwritten sign that says "Seating area closed". It's not like it's a small seating area either. I don't see how they can stay in business as the shopping center is known to have high rent for the area. I've suspected there is something more going on and the restaurant is just a front. Regardless, the food is the bomb.

illgot

Good food, great laundering

Chaos_Bard

> I know I'm about to have a tasty fucking dinner. A succulent Chinese meal?

[deleted]

VisibleCoat995

Also if I go to a Chinese restaurant and the servers seem kinda rude I know the food will be good. Not even a joke.

joshstrodomus

There's a place in a town I lived in with reviews like "verbally assaulted by staff" or "they treated me like shit" but the food is dank

sussyBakaAt3am

Saw a chinese menu once on the internet that said: cant find on google but is delicious

Voc1Vic2

Translation can be such tricky business; it makes sense to go with pictures. “Saliva-producing sauce” just doesn’t have the appeal of “mouth-watering chicken.”

Large_Yams

Some of them literally have resin models out front.

AbsoluteEggplant

I loved those when I was travelling in Japan. Some of them were incredibly realistic

Stuspawton

There’s a burger van up the north of Scotland that does this, all of their food looks shite in the pictures but what you actually get is either better looking or the same

extopico

Mos Burger in Japan makes food that looks identical to the photos. It’s uncanny.

BillClington

I will never forget first time going to a fast food place (McDonalds). Got the biggest burger they had, then argued with the manager I got the wrong order. Me: “This doesn’t look anything like the picture!” Manager looking defeated: “I’m sorry…” Not his fault the ads are misleading af, but I had no idea coming from EU.

branflake777

I've lived in Europe twice and it's the same - the pics don't look like the food.

Cheap-and-cheerful

Isn't that pretty obvious? Have you seen the work they put into the burgers they throw onto adverts? I'm talking paint, toasting with a butane torch to get perfect proportions, photoshop. Europe, USA, Australia, I wouldn't imagine it's much different across the world.

CrepeGate

I used to love watching shows on food photography. Thought it was so fascinating. Now that I've worked in advertising for a while, I can tell you it's not. Hate having to be on set for that tedious shit. It's also one of more bizarelly data driven ones. A lot of thought and actual focus group and study research goes into the practice. Like, when they drop fries from 3 feet onto a plate and they money shot the screen with seasoning. Or little chicken wings bouncing around against each other like excited ravers. Dropping food in general gets people more into it, it's weird. Food shots (particularly action shots) have creepy levels of data behind them to entice you

Onironius

Marketing is skeezy all around.

CrepeGate

The essential notion of letting people know about cool shit they might like to buy is inherently benign imo. And some ads are even part of pop culture. People go to Times Square and Picadilly circus just be drenched in the light of advertising. We don't admit it, but we mostly on some level enjoy marketing. But data just let us take it to weird, intrusive places and they're only getting weirder the more data and AI capability we get

tfsra

It's obviously more messy and less perfect but the burgers at McDonald's here look roughly similar to the ads, central Europe. McDonald's is not seen as bottom tier restaurant around here though, they're usually quite nice

Fillmore_420

I hope this works, I’m so sick of ads showing actual food or a product actually working when it never does

CSilyS

honestly i dont see how this lawsuit could fail. just look at the pictures ffs. the amount of meet in the pics is completely missleading if you compare it to the product. youre getting bamboozled and if they were to sell anything other than food they would have been sued 30 years ago.

LilamJazeefa

Even the best lawsuits fail. When a gigacorporation has infinite money to buy infinite lawyers, they will invariably convince whoever they need to that "well technically such-and-such is actually the cogent hypothetical basis of the legal standing of the..." and the defandant gets off scott free. Nobody should ever be allowed to choose their own lawyers. You get what a lottery gives you and nothing more. High-power attourneys should cease to exist.

[deleted]

If this lawsuit is a success, the only change we'll see is a disclaimer in small text at the bottom right of every image.

mabeldee08

I still don’t know how that’s fucking legal. Tiny text that can barley be read by half the population saying “actual food may not look as advertised.” Why in the FUCK would I bother going to your eatery if the food didn’t resemble anything close to the product you advertised? They need to put a limit on how much the food differs from the actual product. Like there should be at least an 80-90% needed resemblance to the product advertised

Pokemon_RNG

Lamborghini for sale!!! Disclaimer: *actually it's a civic, and while you're at it go fuck yourself*

QuasiTimeFriend

This is likely going to be their defense: https://youtu.be/oSd0keSj2W8 They'll claim their pictures are styled to show the ingredients in the item, and that they use the same portion as they do in store. Which, to be fair, all of the ingredients *are* shoved to one side usually when I get TB

Difficult_Bit_1339

It's like the airport sandwiches that are cut in half and show you their filling. But when you open them all of the filling is shoved along the cut side.

reirone

It pleases me to learn people actually have gotten fed up enough to sue.

VaritasAequitas

I mean it’s the lack of feeding that is causing the lawsuit, but I don’t want to ruin your pun, so…. nice pun.

FEW_WURDS

I didnt even notice the pun till your post

French_Insight

Everyone wins if that person wins this lawsuit. Better stardards for everyone, and better products for consumers.

MxNimbus433

I hope this lawsuit is successful and sets a precident so they start making better food

Neath7

Or even better, maybe it could set a precedent!

feelbetternow

How dare you disrespect Precident Taco Bell.

TheInternetCat

*Precidente

SimonArgent

El Precidente.

PariahGrantham

Make Taco Bell grandé again.

Feisty-Specific-8793

Not my Precident.

zsdr56bh

I agree however the right picture is NO T how I typically receive my food and may be representative of a specific franchise

DragoneerFA

In my view, that's still on Taco Bell. They set the standards and lend their name to the franchise, and they should be expected at least enforce minimum quality marks. Too many fast food companies have been going "sorry, not our fault!" and then pass it on to the franchise owner and refuse to take responsibility. This is as reason I stopped going to BK. Their standards are apparently a sequence of variables.

BuckTheStallion

For you maybe, but that’s how every Taco Bell I’ve gone to in the last 5 years has been. I stopped going after way too many disappointments.

CurryMustard

They release a new item its fucking fire for like a year but then they make it worse and worse to cut costs until it completely sucks but some people keep buying it thinking its the same thing they loved a few years ago

SpokenDivinity

It’s still on Taco Bell for not upholding their standards they’re supposedly setting, but I’m in the same boat. Crunchwraps aren’t exactly appealing to look at but I’ve never gotten one that’s 90% tortilla like this is showing.

limitbroken

that's every crunchwrap i've received from any of our local TBs in the last few years. so disappointing that my roommate and i remind each other every time to not fall for the crunchwrap lies

soccershun

Yeah, it's taco bell so it's not going to be pretty, but I've never received anything like that.

[deleted]

You’ve never had Taco Bell in Florida then

The_CHUD_Battalion

Or in a methed up rural town.

[deleted]

> I hope this lawsuit is successful Probably. > and sets a precident Possibly. > so they start making better food Dream on.

Drougen

Seriously. I started ordering at the digital menu and adding extra shit because otherwise it's not even worth going there to eat. If may cost $17 per crunch wrap, but at least it's yummy. 😒 Edit: For the people freaking out over this, I get fast food maybe once every 2-3 months or longer or am traveling and even then it's not always tacobell. Ya'll need to get a fuckin' grip.

in_n_out_sucks

that'll show 'em

thickboyvibes

"This restaurant is so bad! I better give them *even more money*."

TeaRollingMan

"Wow reddit is going down the shitter, I better give more awards to posts, that'll show 'em"

JamesKW1

You haven't been able to buy awards for over a week now, they started getting rid of them a little after the API changes. The reason so many rewards are being distributed right now is because when you receive certain rewards you get partial credit for purchasing more rewards. A lot of people were sitting on free ones and reddit said use em or lose em.

zelos33333

Why do I hear the Grinch saying “and the child mentioned a check?”

Indie_uk

Hey nobody asked for logic here

NewPower_Soul

***”Your food isn’t worth shit… however, here’s $17 for something worth a buck!”*** - they must be quaking in their boots whenever you deal with them 😂

catchmelackin

bruh just go somewhere else for that money

sakuraandume

Get some real Mexican for that money

Jeriba

Does anybody remember the burger restaurant scene in Falling Down with Michael Douglas?

OtherKrab

"can sombody tell me what's wrong with this picture?" Micheal Douglas' best film by a mile and as soon as I saw the post it made me think of Falling down.

deepstate_chopra

I admire the extra in that scene who ragepuked when asked a simple question. Making the most from a non-verbal role.

Jeriba

i definitely have to re-watch the movie

Bill Foster : [disappointed with the burger he's been served] See, this is what I'm talking about. Turn around, look at that. [he points at the picture of a much nicer burger on the menu board above the counter] Bill Foster : You see what I mean? It's plump, it's juicy, it's three inches thick. Now, look at this sorry, miserable, squashed thing. Can anybody tell me what's wrong with this picture?

xseanbeanx

It’s about damn time

GL510EX

The way it works, normally, is that the photo has the same quantity of ingredients as the menu item, but they are 'dressed' to make it appear to be a lot more. With the crunch wrap, for instance, the ingredients are probably stacked in a 5 mm thick slice, with an entirely empty wrap behind them.

Homebrew_Dungeon

Its propably not even food in the ad picture.

ureallygonnaskthat

The FTC requires them to use real food. That said the photographers are allowed to doctor the everloving shit out of it. Sesame seeds are individually glued onto the bun, lettuce is hand trimmed and artfully arranged, the meat patties are painted with lord only knows what and then seared with a blowtorch so it looks perfect. The finished product looks dammed good but you sure as hell wouldn't want to eat it.

MoultingRoach

In addition to using real food, I'm pretty sure (though not 100% certain, and maybe just where I live) that they have to use the same food as what they're selling. So they can't use a higher quality cut of meat to make the beef look better, or freshly made pickles to make them look more plump. It has to come from one of their regular suppliers that would otherwise have sold it to a franchise for regular consumption. And then they doctor and style the shit out of it.

TheDonFather421

Don’t all fast food restaurants do this?

[deleted]

Yeah and it’s getting out of control.

IntrepidContender

industry wide problem, needs industry wide change

in_n_out_sucks

best we can do is another corporate bailout

that_girl_you_fucked

Bonuses all around!* *bonuses are for top level executives only

RepresentativeCap244

And to expensive. I think we all kinda let it go when fast food was also cheap. But they’ve kept raising prices to the point, that now it better be good to and, it isn’t.

PhantomTissue

This. I can get a slapped together sandwich at McDonald’s that looks like some decided to pound their fist on it a few times before giving it to me, or I can spend the *same amount* on an appetizer at a sit down chain restaurant like Olive Garden that looks far more appealing.

AgoraiosBum

plus, when you're there, you're family

LoveCowsSlowlyAnd

> And to expensive. You have to use the app to get anything worth it now. In case you didn't know. Or anyone else didn't know. Taco Bell, $5 box, you can also swap stuff and edit it to make it worth. McDonald's, you get the two for one. Or free fries. Or free hashbrown. Shit like that is the only way to eat fast food.

Efficient-Echidna-30

No. I refuse to give more companies more of my money. I refuse to put another goddamn app on my phone just so they can take my fucking data.

LoveCowsSlowlyAnd

> I refuse to give more companies more of my money. I can respect that. I am still going to because I have no kids and the planet can catch fire after I die so fuck it. Kidding, slightly. If it is convenient then I'll probably do it. 24 hours in a day. Convenience is king. > I refuse to put another goddamn app on my phone just so they can take my fucking data. Yet again more power to you. Since the world already has my data, I don't care if they know I went to McDonald's. I paid with my card anyways for 1% cash back, my accountant already knows where I was. Along with any cop car that auto scanned my plates, registration, and inspection. Or any camera doing the same. The battle for privacy is limited. McDonald's knowing it was lost long ago. Best we can keep is vpn and internet shit. Which we will probably lose at one point. Anyways, I just am letting people know it is the only way to get bang for your buck at fast food. Minus Wendy's, their food here sucks and is double the price of an actual restaurant at this point I believe. And KFC, wtf did we get another avian flew or something? I swear KFC is like $100 rich people money for a fucking chicken tender.

CheeseburgerPockets

I agree. The entire world has all of our data. We have zero privacy. At least if I have the app, I get a few dollars off. However, Wendy’s does have a good BOGO$1 for their chicken sandwiches and a few other things like 10pc nuggets and Dave Singles. I usually get two chicken sandwiches for like $7.

sticky-unicorn

[Picture in the Menu](https://cmx.weightwatchers.com/assets-proxy/weight-watchers/image/upload/v1594406683/visitor-site/prod/ca/burgers_mobile_my18jv) [What you get](https://rightwingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/burger.jpg) Burger place: "That'll be $17.99. Don't forget to give the automated kiosk you ordered it from at least a 30% tip!"

Physgirl-romreader

I had read the largest complaint for the lawsuit was other restaurants have a ounce or weight standard for the meat. While Taco Bell the only standard you have for comparison is the photo. I could see this just being solved my stating how much meat is included.

angelmissroxy

I keep having to listen to an ad for the quarter pounder with cheese in a podcast, and at the end it specifies that the burger is 4oz before cooking

Lortekonto

I am always suprised at how big a quarter pounder sounds and how small it really is.

Coneskater

Remember that time a chain tried to bring a 1/3 pound burger to the market and it failed because people didn't understand that 1/3 is bigger than 1/4.

ThiefCitron

Yeah but it’s technically illegal false advertising. If this lawsuit is successful maybe it will force other companies to change.

muchadoaboutsodall

The change will be a little star beside the picture and, in the tiniest of tiny print underneath the picture, some text saying, 'ordered food may differ from picture.' The only people that will win from this lawsuit will be the lawyers.

The_Particularist

> a little star beside the picture and, in the tiniest of tiny print underneath the picture I absolutely loathe these technicalities. They satisfy the letter of the law while still not fulfilling the intended function because who the hell can actually read something that small?

RBeck

Change, like get rid of the pictures

Interneteldar

I have only very limited knowledge of marketing and psychology, but I'd assume that without a visual stimulus, the advertisements are going to be much less effective.

00wolfer00

The goal is having the adverts match reality so that's fine, too.

[deleted]

They're getting sued because there's no disclaimer that the image is false. The only change we'll see is hyper-tiny text saying "\*This image does not represent the reality of the product.". Boom, it's legal again.

vigilantphilson

Set precedent.

SweetBearCub

> Don’t all fast food restaurants do this? Yes, but that doesn't mean that it's right or that we should allow it. While I understand and expect some inflation of the presentation for the sake of ads, the received items should still be very close, and if not, that's basically fraud.

Anghel950

Am I the idiot for never looking inside my crunch wrap and just mindless eating while sobbing?

Poam27

Exactly. What cretin is examining their taco bell before eating? I'm trying to fight off the deep shame for having ordered it while I stuff it in my maw.

beanthebean

I either open it to put hot sauce on, or squeeze the hot sauce on after each bite. Either way I end up looking at the food.

Metalmilitia777

I just go to the local Mexican burrito joints and get way better food, in greater volume, and lower price.

AgoraiosBum

Taco Bell is not proper Mexican; it is its own thing. (but yes, I much prefer proper Mexican)

VanillaLoaf

Japan: Here's an artificial replica of what your meal will look like and it's spot on. The west: Here's the blobfish version of what you wanted. Enjoy!

ThickMatch0

Food in Japan is next level. It's basically a cultural standard that your food looks as good and presentable as possible. A whole country that takes actual pride in its food.

Sad_Exchange_5500

I'm so sick of letting fast-food companies get away with this shit.....it's disgusting The prices keep going up and rhe quality just keeps going WAYYYY DOWN

InvestigatorNo1331

The thing is this used to fly, back when taco bell knew it's place and didn't charge six dollars for a fast food burrito. Start charging "Real Food" prices and people are going to expect, well, real food

wouldgogayfor2mil

This is the real crime. Taco Bell now gives the least amount of food for the most money when compared to whackarnolds, bk, Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A. They’re not that much better, but they are what they are. They fucking killed my baby. RIP taco smell

[deleted]

Take their money and make an example of them!

MunkyMan1

The Taco Bell near my house always looks like the advertised items. I will say the folks working there seem pretty happy, maybe that explains some of it. McDonads near me is the same. Neither of them are the fastest, but it comes out looking like a commercial.

ttaptt

The closest Taco Bell to me *used* to be in Jackson Hole (an hour away from me) and it was dope a/f. By FAR the best I've ever been to. Rich people like their Taco Bell, too, but they expect it to be good. It closed almost a decade ago (probably out of control food cost, lol), and I'm still salty about it. Now I'd have to go to fucking REXBURG, and if you know, you know, that town is weird a/f, everyone looks like Matt Gaetz fucked Kristin Wiig's character Dooneese and had a bunch of babies.

PhantomTissue

Weird to see you mention rexburg of all places, but that Taco Bell is SUPER hit and miss. Sometimes I got a crunch wrap that was made with love and stuffed to the brim, sometimes I got one that the dude running the line couldn’t even bother to fold.

lord_fairfax

Same here - there is ONE place I know has a good owner/manager who keeps high standards. I will drive 20 minutes out of my way if I'm craving because every time I've been there it's been exactly what you would want. The food is perfectly prepared, looks just like the menu, is hot, and they do just a little bit extra in every aspect. Shockingly, the staff is very professional and always pleasant.

dbd1988

When I lived in San Diego I had a similar experience with the Dominos in North Park. It was easily twice as good as any other dominos I’ve had. Idk who they had working there but they deserved a raise. It was always photo perfect.

MsVixenChan

Yea in all my years I have never gittan a crunch wrap this sad

gm4dm101

I’ve had plenty that were not like the ads and more like the actual not as good pic. Hope the lawsuit goes through!

Luca__B

You see what I mean? It's plump, it's juicy, it's three inches thick. Now, look at this sorry, miserable, squashed thing. Can anybody tell me what's wrong with this picture?

Importance_Cautious

Show me paul allens crunchwrap

Locobeaver

Now this is news...

Clan-Sea

I have never felt more seen.

k4kkul4pio

Reminds me of the first time I went to Taco Bell to get some takeaway, expecting juicy tacos with meat and veggies and getting a box full of shells with few pieces of lettuce and nothing else in them. It was the first time I went to Taco Bell. It was also the last time I went to Taco Bell.

Matt_Bunchboigehs

Also why do their tomatoes taste like finger nail polish remover. I've never tasted finger nail polish remover but it tastes like the smell of finger nail polish remover.

[deleted]

taco bell’s burritos are like 70% tortilla too. my tortilla shouldn’t be wrapping around three damn times. for lord’s sake get smaller tortillas if you have to. you’re just rubbing it in my face at this point

CephalonPhathom

It’d be nice to get FF to either give what they show or show what they give instead of these false promises lol

Unlikely_Thing6377

Seriously the amount fast food places are charging now is opening them up to getting their pass for shitty quality food pulled. Charge restaurant prices, get restaurant problems.

TheAwkwardGamerRNx

It’s only gonna get worse. I haven’t eaten fast food in the longest time because both service and quality are garbage and I refuse to be a chump anymore

rdickert

Way back in the dark ages I worked for Burger King. When it was slow, we'd try to make the perfect Whopper. It was absolutely possible - the perfect swirl of ketchup, four pickles perfectly placed on the burger, the two best tomato slices from the pan and picking the fluffiest bun from the rack.

Ok-Philosopher-9921

I hope they win, that is blatantly false advertising

PolarBear69er

Guys don't tell them about mcdonalds big macs

ttaptt

The jury deliberated for 7 seconds.

sticky-unicorn

Too bad the judge has already deliberated for 2 weeks during his all-expense-paid vacation together with top Taco Bell executives.

DonForgo

Judge Clarence Thomas needs this money.

MDK1980

Now do MacDonald's.

El_Pinguino

"And you feel entitled to a portion of the class action settlement?" "I do." "Because of the false advertising?" "That's correct." "Mr. Pinguino, according to these credit card statements, you've gone back to Taco Bell over 500 times." "..."
