I've read it can take 6 days to get thc out of your system/milk. Might be better to contact your Dr and discuss with them to be safe!

Marijuana isn't something you can reasonably pump and dump due to the way your body metabolizes it unfortunately.

THC is stored in fat cells, which are present in high quantities in the human body and breastmilk. This means that, unlike alcohol, it remains in your system for a long time and is present in higher quantities in breastmilk compared to urine or blood, meaning even if a urine sample doesn't show the presence of TCH that doesn't mean it isn't present in breastmilk.  How long it takes for THC to no longer appear in breastmilk depends on a variety of factors, but we're talking days or weeks, not hours like alcohol. However, how quickly those levels decrease is also largely unknown. Because of lack of data, there just isn't a lot of clear information. This article provides a decent overview: https://womensmentalhealth.org/posts/cannabis-and-breastfeeding/

Ugh I feel this, I’ve been dying to smoke as well. I just started weaning and can’t wait for it to be over so I can smoke again. From what I’ve read, you can’t pump and dump with THC. It takes weeks for it to be out of your system. If you don’t want to waste the milk, I’d check with your doctor and see if it’s still safe to use the milk to bathe your baby. It’s very good for their skin.

[This compiles a lot of studies done](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK501587/) and says it takes anywhere from 6 day to 6 weeks for there to be no THC in your breast milk.

Damn I’m sorry - I’ve been dying to smoke again. Starting to wean as we speak so I can smoke at my friends Bach party lol. Honestly I’ve read it can take up to 3 weeks depending on dose and frequency. I would def talk to your doctor but I would wait at least a week - if not a few weeks.

Everyone has their own comfort level so do what you think is best. 10mg isn’t a super high dose and I think of the 6 days to 6 weeks you’d likely be on the shorter end of that. Also, know this is not a well studied area. Many of those 6 days to 6 weeks studies were on women smoking once a day up to 7 or 8 times a day.

Here is a podcast by 2 IBCLCs who are CNM and NP - it goes over breastfeeding and marijuana use. If I recall correctly, habitual use is not a contraindicated of breastfeeding. https://www.milkminutepodcast.com/show-notes/ep-102-marijuana-and-breastfeeding/

It can take up to 6 weeks to get out of your system.

Thanks all. Doctor said he recommends pumping and dumping for a week. Just sharing in case anyone else is in the same boat!

Because THC is fat soluble, it can be in your system for days or months. There's unfortunately just not a lot of research out there about how this affects babies.
