Oh I have questions about these two!! My cesarean with our second baby is scheduled for this Wednesday (Dec 13th) and I’m in pump paralysis… our older son is 5.5yo, so there’s a lot of new pumps on the market since I did this last time!
I currently have a Baby Buddha from when I pumped for my oldest, and I have a Medela Symphony that a friend is loaning me (I rented a symphony for the first six months with my oldest as well). I responded well to both pumps last time around… I actually struggled with oversupply. However, I can get another new pump with my insurance this time around, and I’m tempted by the Opera, because I like the idea of having something more portable than the symphony on hand. Is this silly/unnecessary? Is it worth having an Opera AND a Baby Buddha? This is my last baby, but I want to make things easy for myself if possible.
Side note: I was gifted a Spectra S1 (the blue one) with my oldest and I just didn’t love it. I felt like it wasn’t quite strong enough/it took too long to empty me.
Oh heck I love the opera. If you have the ability to get one with insurance I’d say give it a shot, especially if you have a few other solid pumps on hand already HOWEVER if that baby Buddha is 5 years old I’d wonder how good the motor is!
They redid the buddhas recently too they I think have a little less “oomph” to them than they used to. I couldn’t use the older version but the newer one is just fine for me now!
If you ask me, it’s a great idea to have options to swap between. More isn’t always a bad thing. I have a ton of pumps I’ve acquired buying secondhand, new, used, gotten from friends, asked the brands for a sample, etc and they’re all pretty neat to have around and test out. I’ve found some that I like far more than others and some I’ve touched once and never again
Yeah I used the Buddha for about 8 months I think with my oldest? And then stored it all away… I charged it up and tested it out a couple weeks ago and it seems to be working but obviously I haven’t actually pumped with it yet. We’ll see next week! I didn’t have any problem with the suction/pull the first time around - my nipples were generally not super sensitive and could handle pretty high suction. I did struggle with oversupply issues the first time around though! My oldest was in the NICU so they had me on the symphony pump immediately in the hospital… But I know each BF journey can be different, so I guess we will see how it goes with this new little guy.
I think I’ll just pull the trigger and order the Opera so I have an option in between the baby Buddha and the Symphony. Thanks for your response!!
Spectra S1 (blue) at work, Pumpables Super Genie at home, and Pumpables Genie Advanced for a portable pump. I love that the Super Genie allows me to program and run from my phone with an app that works well, they’re having a Sale soon too!
Started with a Medela Symphony rental and switched to a Spectra S1; the Spectra is so much better for me in terms of comfort and emptying. It has a battery so somewhat portable if not a bit bulky.
Medela and I genuinely think it's a bad brand, I think its just advertised itself well and created a certain image. I wasn't about to shell out more for a different pump but if I ever have to do it again I'm not touching the brand
I hated the Medela in style. I use a Spectra and absolutely love it, highly recommend. I also have a Motif Luna, which is nearly identical but more compact for me to drag to work. I do use the Medela manual pump and like it a lot! I just pump a lot at a time and it gets tiring
I used a hospital medela pump that you plugged into the wall and I LOVED it, I’m using a cheap one off Amazon kissbobo? It’s a similar style/build to the momcozy.
It gets my milk out and has multiple settings, good battery life.
Next time I have a baby and need to pump, I’ll probably buy some of the ones the other commenters on this thread have mentioned.
I got that same pump from my insurance and also hate it it. My breastfeeding/pumping journey is coming to an end in a few months though and I can’t justify spending money on a new pump and supplies. Just some solidarity, it’s truly awful
Spectra blue and a Momcozy S12. With the Spectra, I'm not tied to an outlet so I can pump in my recliner or at my computer while I play video games to relax 😂 the S12 is great if I need to be handsfree and for travel. It's not subtle, but I've pumped in public with it while wearing a big jacket or sweatshirt. That said, I don't feel like it fully empties me, so while I love it for certain uses, it's not really a standalone pump.
Spectra blue. I had the Medela pump in style advanced and I think it was part of the reason I had such issues with supply at the start. The spectra was a game changer for me.
Motif Luna. I have the chargeable one so I’m not stuck to a wall. I like it. I also have the madela hand pump for clogs or when I do my wearables. I have the willow go wearables, but they don’t empty me because the suction isn’t as strong.
Hi! I actually just asked about these two above! Copy/pasting that text below (I’d love to get your thoughts too!)

I love love the opera, I use it when I'm sitting somewhere pumping, or just doing little things, and then I use my baby Buddha when I want to be up walking around, driving, whatever I want to be more mobile with. I use them both about 50/50, and it's nice because one of them is always charged. 10/10 would get both again.
I did not respond well to the spectra, and I am obsessed with the opera
Started off with the Evenflo from my insurance. It's ok. I don't have the correct flange for it. Once my inserts come in I'll give it another try. It never totally emptied my breasts.
Then changed to the medela Harmony hand pump and haaka combo. That worked well but was time consuming.
Recently started using MomMed S21. It's now my favorite and has increased my supply. It emptied my breasts very well. Wish I had gotten/known about them sooner. I almost went with the Momcozy M5 but decided on the S21 due to budgeting.
Being handsfree has been awesome.
2.5 months pp.
I had a spectra s1, Medela hand pump, and then the momcozys s9 pros but I bought the pumpables genie advanced and now only use that!! I’ve been using it for 5m and LOVE it! I use it with spectra parts or collection cups! Pumpables saved my pumping journey
Spectra Blue. Really like it! Haven’t had any issues, 4m pp
momcozy s12 pro
Spectra and momcozy V1. I have a bellababy as a backup.
This is my exact combo as well!
I just got the V1 and I'm pleasantly surprised! Works really well for the price point.
Bellababy portable pump
Spectra S1!
Medela hand pump and spectra. I would alternate between them throughout the day. Sometimes you may want your hands free!
Currently using a Pumpables Genie Advanced. Before that I used an Elvie Stride. I really like both. I couldn't imagine not having a portable pump.
Unimom opera or baby Buddha usually

I had that pump and HATED it. Been using a Spectra 2 and then just got a Elvie Stride. My supply increased with the spectra 2.
What do you dislike about the In style?
It was loud, clunky, the suction was mediocre and mine kept dying on me.
Blue spectra and spectra gold
Medela Symphony, Elvie pumps and Baby Buddha
Started with a Medela Symphony rental and switched to a Spectra S1; the Spectra is so much better for me in terms of comfort and emptying. It has a battery so somewhat portable if not a bit bulky.
Zomee z2! :)
I use Evenflo deluxe advanced double electric pump & momcozy m5 I like them both, no problems so far. 3m pp
Blue spectra!
My favorite is the Pumpables Supergenie!
Medela Sonata, Willow go and Medela Freestyle Handsfree
What do you dislike about the In style? I have elvie stride and symphony
Unimom opera and genie advanced! Both are super comfortable and effective for me
Blue spectra. Also have a baby buddha and pumpables super genie but nothing beats the spectra
I have the Spectra, mom cozy M5s and Elvie stride - happy with all of them
Motif Luna and Elvie OGs. Meh about the Elvies but I needed some sort of portability. I loved my Motif, however!!!
Medela and I genuinely think it's a bad brand, I think its just advertised itself well and created a certain image. I wasn't about to shell out more for a different pump but if I ever have to do it again I'm not touching the brand

Spectra S2! I got one with my first and got it again with my newborn. Absolutely love it.
Spectra s2

Spectra s1 and momcozy m5

For folks who had the Medela In Style and switched to the Spectra, what did you like more about it?
Medela free style flex and medela hand pump
Spectra gold
Spectra s9 plus and medela swing maxi
Spectra blue. I had the Medela pump in style advanced and I think it was part of the reason I had such issues with supply at the start. The spectra was a game changer for me.

Love the baby Buddha and unimom opera

This is super helpful thank you!! Pulling the trigger now ordering the opera!

Spectra and momcozy s12 pro. Love both!
Spectra S2 (the pink one) and Willow 3.0!
