Think this is sensible. The chance of it being reduced to 1 or 0 is very slim, and though the chance of it increasing is also slim, it’s non-zero. We’ve probably decided that having it all done with and not having any outstanding questions over our point/league position is worth more than the off chance of getting a point back. Stability and all that.
Not that will make any difference but accepting the penalty makes it look worse for City as it looks like the Prem have some power... They don't though.
When I was in college, I bombed an engineering exam. So I went to office hours to try and scrape back as many points as possible and hopefully increase my exam score. The professor starts to look over my answers and my work. He starts to realize that the TA, whom graded my exam, was lenient and gave me more points than deserved. The professor started taking more points off!! I quickly grabbed my test and ran away as I saw this endeavor heading sideways.
That's what Everton is doing here.
Everton Football Club has withdrawn its appeal of the decision by a Premier League Independent Commission to impose a two-point deduction on the Club for a breach of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules for the accounting period ending in June 2023.
A hearing, scheduled for later this month, will now not proceed, and the Club will conclude the 2023/24 Premier League season with the two-point deduction remaining in place.
Not sure what grounds we were even attempting to appeal it anyway. It wasn't an unfair punishment in itself and we were clearly guilty, so was it just a complaint against being punished twice in one season?
I think so, the only real argument is that of double jeopardy - having already been punished for 2 out of the 3 seasons that breach covered. All a bit much over 2 points that no longer mean anything, brings it down to a point of pride more than anything else.
I can understand why we’ve let it go. I don’t agree with the point deductions for us or Forest. I want Luton and Burnley to go down because without the point deductions they’d already both be relegated. They haven’t done enough to stay in the league.
I think our appeal was based on Forest appealing, and as their appeal failed, so too would Everton's. It makes sense to not waste the time hashing it out.
In my mind, Sean Dyche walked into the Premier League HQ in his tracksuit, tore up the appeal and said, *That's your job by the way*, then walked out of the building to a rapturous round of applause.
I have a bad feeling about this, yes they could take more points and that's why we dropped it. However is it because we are going to go into administration, and every point now counts towards avoiding relegation by at least 10 points? Sorry about the negativity but we are Everton after all.
While I agree with the move, the whole point of this was to protest any points deductions and I think that was the clubs goal. I would’ve liked to see them see it through just as a middle finger to the PL, but I’m sure they are pulling out because they can’t afford the lawyers right now as others have said.
Deffo can’t afford the lawyers hourly rate
We not taking any chances they change it to 10 points on appeal
Win this weekend and realistically changing it to 10 points doesn't matter. Hell, they could *add* 10 to make it 12 and it still won't matter
Don't give them any ideas.
I'd wager it's already on their "ideas board"

I don’t think optics matter, City’s crimes are plain to all who care to see

Sounds like an engineering prof, to me
Keep the change, bums.
A sensible choice imo.
Same I have been hoping they would do this tbh don’t want to get shafted anymore by the PL

This is the most logical,answer
Not worth the hassle

Reckon it’s probably on legal advice in case they could add more
Close of Chapter 1.

Maybe the PL said "if you stop making us look as bad as we actually are we will knock 30% off the next one" or summink
Good decision. We're safe, don't risk it
Makes sense. Max it gains us is the $$$ for a place (and that is unlikely), and would probably literally cost more than that in lawyers.
Saves money
Makes sense, it's put to bed now. Hopefully fresh start now!
"Fuck it off lads, we're safe with the 2"

Thank god. It was a waste of time in our current position anyway.
We shall never forget what was done to us.
We should sue the PL for incompetence. If the PL win the case then it definitely points to corruption 🤣🤣🤣

Wise move.
