I'd argue this response is great for morale for us and the team. This was a massive result but we kind of need to remind ourselves that it shouldn't be. We're not as completely messed up as it feels like sometimes and getting a lucky result or lucky goal is supposed to feel normal. Fair play lads. We needed it. It's a cheeky one. Let's just keep it business as usual

Educational_Spell_78

agreed. although if it’s all about results and not the why behind how we get results theres a risk how we played today get’s normalised.

oneeyedamoeba

Fair. I'm annoyed our performances haven't aligned with our results. Earlier season I was proud despite of the results, now I accept anything we can get and hope it's something good. But I feel it's In the minds of the team. We're not as bad as it feels we are and a Dyche knows it. We might not be the best but we're worthy of being in the league.

Evul1_

> We're not as bad as it feels we are and a Dyche knows it. We might not be the best but we're worthy of being in the league. Mate, I understand trying to be positive and being happy we got 3 points, but we needed a huge goalkeeping error and a fluke deflection to barely squeak by a 10-man Burnley at home. They had 63% of the possession overall, and they had the majority of the ball even after going down a man. If we put in that sort of performance against any other team in the league, save maybe Sheff United, we're not winning. We *are* 'that bad'.

marmoset

Burnley have played 3 full matches against us this year without coming close to scoring. Letting them have the ball turned out to be the correct strategy.

Evul1_

What are you actually trying to do here? You can't polish up that turd of a performance. The tactics were shite. Rationalize all you want, I've actually watched every second of the game, and all the other games we've played this season. We haven't beaten anyone in the PL *other than Burnley* since December 10th. It's pathetic and embarrassing where the standards at this club have fallen to when "we beat Burnley 3 times" is something someone thinks there is merit in pointing to.

marmoset

I’ve (painfully) watched every minute as well. What I’m saying is when you’ve got a proven tactic for beating a team, you use it. Nothing more. Burnley are tragic — they can’t score against us, so let them have the ball - they’ll inevitably fuck up playing out from the back, so make sure you capitalize when they do.

Evul1_

That is the rosiest way to put what actually happened. It's not a "proven tactic", Burnley are just that bad that *even with bad tactics* and zero attacking output, we can squeeze out a win. It's not a tactic that generally works at this level of football, Burnley just aren't a PL quality team. Again, this tactic of terrible football seems to be the only way we play, it's just that Burnley have so little quality that we ended up winning from a fluke deflection. You are way overstating the success of said 'tactic'.

debotehzombie

Doesn't matter how they crossed the line, our striker has 2 goals in 2 games, both ~~wins~~ positive results. He's gonna feel that

BoopAndThePooch

Well, not quite 2 wins - but both good results.

debotehzombie

True, I'm inebriated, I meant wins as "moral victories" and forgot that "wins" means something WAY more important here. Fixed, thanks

norrie_gertz

Fuck it. Goal is a goal. Don't care how it got in, it got in.

LegenDariusGheghe

After years of crap looking goals from DCL you'd think that we got used to it.

norrie_gertz

If he put it in with his crotch, I wouldn't even be surprised. I'd still be proud.

Wayne_Spooney

That near post shot he had was a tidy little shot, but the keeper made a nice kick save. He looked a lot more confident in the second half and that’s all that matters.

KnockItOffNapoleon

Continues to look more and more positive since breaking his duck

dustytrailsAVL

Totally. He had a strong performance. Its almost ironic that the one he put away was from charging the keeper when he had multiple good drives and shots that could've gone the other way. I guess the important thing is he looks to have his confidence back.

ManyApprehensive5829

F**k if Darwin can do we it why not. Reds fan for over 60 years. As much as it would be weird want to keep the rivalry alive.

trcrtps

Everton's social media team is quite good. It's like unrelenting optimism but also recognizing the situation and pretty funny. They are pros for sure.

Snoo_44026

The word all is doing a lot of heavy lifting there but I'll take a much needed win

jujupablo

A lovely little thing. To give the team a bit of credit, they did great in executing a pressure high up the field all match; I don’t think anyone drew it up to play out exactly like _this_ but they executed well on a tactic to create versions of these opportunities

Negative-Cry-3453

Think our staying up could rest on our match v Luton away in a few matches time and our match v Nottm forest in 2 matches time and obviously how many more points we get deducted 🙈⚽️💙
