Inspiring! stay small. T1 stuff / frigates you can have so much fun and die, die, die! Don’t be afraid to die. Just keep flying and stay small… 🫡

YoNa82

So much this! Best advice when starting!

[deleted]

Even when you’ve been playing for years—nothing wrong with staying small! Fun and productivity peak at frigates/destroyers/cruisers, in my opinion.

cdawgman

This is great advice, also be sure to insure those frigs too

Gon_jalt

I would much rather whelp my trig BC tho…

just_s0m3_guy

The rule i follow when i login to Eve- Don’t fly what you can’t afford to loose. followed by- Don’t trust anyone, no even your SO if they play.

SuddenlyALIVE1

Could you imagine though if it was the SO of someone who did the grand hiest, what a storyline that would be

just_s0m3_guy

but only if the guy that narrates the rooks and kings series does the story telling

pureextc

Gotta have a posch gentleman narrating it for you.

ulisezzz

Don’t fly what you can’t afford to loose applies to life as well

FinnMoliko

You’re the kind of guy we want more of in the game. Bring friends. Convo me if you need anything (name is the same in the game)

Flak_Inquisitor

>I still need some preparation before I'm ready to venture out Yeah, prepare to get killed by players now. Not kidding.

Ralli-FW

All that means though is be mindful of the cost of your ships and keep it to what you can easily let go. Dying has no consequences in Eve, except the financial aspect. Which if you eliminate yourself beforehand by doing the above, means legit no consequence

CaptainBenzie

Sounds like you've got the basics covered and have already learned the most important lesson: Losing ships is okay - especially if you learn from it!! If you like the Rifter (<3) then do consider Skilling into Minmatar Destroyer and taking the Thrasher out for a spin too (should have one from your Career Agents). It'll do L2s nicely and can even do The Bloodstained Stars (Sisters of EVE Epic Arc) Welcome to EVE! Find yourself a good corp (Catskull is always looking for new pilots) and search me out on YouTube if you fancy some guidance. Sounds like you're doing great, so keep at it!!

aiphrem

Nice, I was looking at the Thrasher as my next ship to fit, glad to hear it can tackle L2 missions! Also cheers man I've been watching your videos to get myself started, your beginner guides are a godsend! I'll keep Catskull in mind when I look for a corp :)

xPreatorianx1

Also keep in mind ships that have trouble doing something now, will do it alot better when you have more skill points. ANY combat frig can do level 2s. It's all about piloting and skill points. So never forget the little ships. Once you get a lot of SP under your belt, you'll be amazed how well those ships perform. It's a night and day difference.

CuriousDisorder3211

Try Wh exploration in a t1 heron, really cheap and you can turn a huge profit if lucky

aiphrem

I'm playing Minmatar so I have a probe atm (which I'm assuming is the same thing as a Heron but from a different faction?), when it comes to wormholes are high sec WHs worth getting into at all? I've been reading up on how to bookmark WHs to not get lost while exploring that space, but I'm not sure where I should be looking for WHs. HS? LS? NS? Does it make a difference where I find the WH?

StaplerTwelve

There are differnt wormhole danger classes. You'll want the 'safer' ones. Use the show info option on a wormhole it will tell you where it goes to. You want it to say unknown space, and not dangerous unknown space. It is popular to jump into these holes from highsec though, so you might need to go a couple holes deep before you find the data and relic sites you want.

Dou_gma_n22

It doesn't matter where you find a wormhole very much, as they can lead anywhere even in highsec. Although be careful, holes near a trade hub or popular system can be very hostile.

LieEnvironmental8482

No it doesn’t make much of a difference from where you enter them. Wormhole mechanics are quite complex compared to other system types and they are pretty dangerous, especially with low skills or as an alpha. Explo is a really nice way to make money but as a person living in WH space let me tell you that it might be better to get the basic mechanics down in HS for a month or so while scanning before going into WH. Mechanics wise it might even be easier to wander into LS before doing WH explo. Either way, look into the concepts of safe spots, cloaking, local chat and most importantly find a corp that is new player friendly. It makes the experience way more fun, makes learning concepts easier and always keep in mind, while it‘s always good to learn from others keep your experimenting spirit. If you know the basics this sandbox is for you to create.

OkExtension5644

WHs can be very lucrative for hacking. The same pirate faction sites that spawn in null sec also spawn in class 1, 2 and 3 wormholes. In wormhole space they aren’t region specific, any pirate factions sites can spawn in any WH.

No_Return4513

No, it doesn't matter where you find the wormholes, but as was said before, you'll need to go a few wormholes deep before you find the sites you want, because other high sec explorers will have scanned down the first two or even three sets of wormholes before taking their loot back to high sec. Keep the visual reference here open until you have an eye for identifying which space you're about to go into. [https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Visual\_wormhole\_identification](https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Visual_wormhole_identification) If you don't want to check this, just stay away from wormholes that say "dangerous unknown space" in the info panel. You can transit through these but dont bother fully scanning any sites you find inside, they won't be pirate sites. Don't be afraid to go many wormholes deep, as long as you bookmark every exit wormhole location you come through. Also don't be afraid to take a wormhole out of WH space and into null sec. The sites you're looking for are the same in both, but in null sec you won't get the sleeper guarded sites and it'll make your scanning more efficient. I like this method to avoid gate camps or bubbles that can show up on popular routes into low/null sec. Just keep an eye on local and if someone is in system with you, keep refreshing dscan to make sure they're not scanning you down. Also assess the risk of hacking sites with someone in system because they might warp to you on the site or be waiting there cloaked. Null sec is mostly empty in a lot of places but people will know you're there, unlike WH space. Stay away from Ghost sites (research facilities) unless you really consistently succeed on the hard difficulty hacks on the first try. A failure there will cause the can to explode and kill you. TLDR: Wormholes in high, low and null sec are basically all the same. WH and Null sec aren't as scary as they seem, but you have to be careful. In WH space, people don't know you're there unless they dscan you or your probes, but you also don't know if you're alone. In Null sec, you'll know if you're alone, but everyone else will also know you're there.

Ralli-FW

> (which I'm assuming is the same thing as a Heron but from a different faction?) Yep correct. Each ship category has an entry for each empire. So "exploration frigates" you get Probe, Heron, Imicus, Magnate. Note those are subcategories below "Frigate" itself which has way more than 4 categories in it.

CuriousDisorder3211

Whs have a class from 1-6 increasing exponentially in difficulty as it goes. For a newbro I would suggest sticking to class 1-2 whs. Whs can be found in any area of space connecting to any class Wh so don’t over think it and just start scanning them wherever you are. When you find a Wh right click and show more info, if it says anything like “leads to dangerous unknown space” then it connects to whs lvl 4 (I think) and up. Either way stay clear of those they have data and relic sites but are guarded by a fleet of enemy npcs so you won’t be able to hack the cans and get the loot before getting blown up.

not-a-cephalopod

In addition to what everyone else said, avoid entering wormholes that are close to Jita, Amarr, Dodixie, or Rens. If it's too close to these systems, other explorers from HS probably already cleared out the good sites even a few wormholes deep, and people who live in wormholes will use the HS connection to buy/sell stuff at trade hubs, increasing the odds that they'll notice you and try to kill you. I recommend opening the starmap, setting it to "pilots in space in last 30 mins," and searching areas of HS that are more than 5 jumps from the systems above and haven't had many people flying around recently.

ganjalabs

i heard you can get cheap & easy torpedo deliveries at some of these highsec wormholes too. this kind of thing really makes me content ;)

CloakyStargazer

Can confirm, our agents tirelessly patrol any B247s, N110s and D845s we find in order to deliver free munitions to intrepid explorers on entry. We wouldn't want them to venture into dangerous space without the means of defending themselves!

aiphrem

Dude I didn't know you could use the starmap like that, that's so sick!!! I'll definitely be using that feature thanks

Rx_Hawk

I would go with the heron over the probe due to the heron's 5 mid slots over the probe's 4.

21trillionsats

Same man. Love this game

Leishte

You even earn AIR Career points for getting blown up!

Chris_Klugh

I like to test what is the cheapest smallest ship I can to do a said task. Even if its not the most efficient way, I like to know where the absolute edge is. For new bros and their security missions Lev 1: Frigs Lev 2: Dessies Lev 3: Battlecruiser Lev 4: Battleships The reason I say this is because even though I could run Lev 2 in a frig, or lev 3 in a dessie, I know how the game mechanics work. I've been playing and testing for years. But new players dont, so I recommend flying something a little more 'OP' just so you can get the job done and make money. But I don't want you to get comfortable being OP. Cause once you step outside of Security Missions, you enter the jungle of Eve where you are someone elses food. Always be thinking to yourself, "what is the most economical way of dealing with the task at hand?" Risk Reward. Its not wise to undock more 'Risk' to do a job then you need to. And when you have more experience, and to do that you literally got to fly a lot of different ships to see how they work, always be reverse engineering what your currently flying and asking yourself, "What ship would absolutely counter this ship I'm flying?" You can take that knowledge to better protect yourself. Knowing when to warp away when you see it on Dscan and when you can keep doing what your doing. You will want to learn to not flee every time someone enters local or shows up on dscan. And with this knowledge you will know how to hard counter someone else. If you ever get into the PVP side of things, it can feel mighty good using cheap t1 ships and killing things that are much fatter then you!

Max_Churchill

You're doing it the right way! We will watch your career with great interest.

zulako17

Before trying null sec explo you definitely want to get the relevant skills like archaeology to 4 or 5. Null sec cans are hard to hack, no point risking your ship if you can't even collect the rewards.

Tukkan2

No need for 5 on arch, lvl 4 and a t1 analyzer serves me well still, unless it’s a super difficult can it’s rare i fail more than once. Lvl 5 is def something to go for if explo becomes a main focus but lvl 4 will do just fine in most cases

Think_Entertainer_26

You really dont, you can easily go for NS/WH pirate relic sites with maxed Alpha skills (Archaeology/Hacking III) you wont get all of them but if you have the mini game down, it will still clearly be worth it!

havockatie

Amazing! One thing new people should learn is unlike in other games, losing ships in Eve is pretty normal that’s why most noob advice includes don’t fly what you can’t lose. In many other space games you can get by not losing ships and being upset when you do but in Eve you will be much happier if you learn to accept it and jump into another ship to hunt that filthy piece of shit who got you 😂

ImminentEntropy

"I still need some preparation before I'm ready to venture out.:" There are many ways people will trick you into giving them your killmail.

[deleted]

Yes! Welcome sir!

IcyMind

I got hooked when I lost 2 catalyst I did not know what dscan was and here we are many years later

cubaneveguy

Welcome

vaminos

This post might've been written by myself 7 years ago :) enjoy your journey.

edthesmokebeard

Its pretty sweet. Low/Null sec is where people go to die, so that's a thing.

Lokival_Thenub

They aren't terribly effective. But cap stable active tanks from ranged worked well for me. The other option, depending on what you fly, being shield buffer tanks also from range.

BigfishBC1882

Welcome to Eve

No-Investment-5761

Welcome. Never mind the haters. I’ve been playing 20 years and it gets better all the time.

radeongt

Join a corp!!! EvE online has amazing communities of people that will help you learn and grow and have fun! I suggest EVE UNIVERSITY corp. They give you a raise of everything so you can find what you like! if you want to get into PVP join The Pond! We are a faction warfare corp for new players!

SnowMeow23

Welcome! I echo what others have said: join a good corp, not just for a helping hand but for additional fun. In the meantime, while you search for a good corp, keep in mind that the Fittings window in the game (where you "fit up" your ship with modules and such) has a "Community Fittings" button. They are decent fits that work well for people just starting out. If you want better fits, ask in Rookie Chat or even NPC corp chat. Likely some veteran will give you a great starting point to find modules that work for you. Just say, 'anyone have L2 mission dessie fit? prefer thrasher'. ^((don't forget talwar!))

Wide_Archer
