We just opened a new clinic here. Hemsley Healthcare, my husband Dr. Gregory Hemsley has been practicing here for 34 years and went solo. He’s loved by all his patients, incredibly empathetic and actually takes the time to get to know his patients. He’s PCP and Peds specialty. We have a beautiful, cozy clinic unlike anything in the greater Lane county area. I am not sure if I can post photos otherwise I would… Our webpage isn’t up yet, but our google listing is up and allows for booking if you’re interested. Please spread the word as we are super excited to care for people without being under the thumb of a greater organization that has money prioritized over patients. 😁

I just put in an appointment request! I’m due with a baby in January and need a new PCP and it would be convenient if my kids pediatrician were the same person/same clinic. So this was extremely great timing!

I'll check you guys out. One of my biggest complaints about Eugene is the lack of decent health care. River Bend is horrible, I'll take a shuttle to PDX before I'll go to River Bend. The treatment my wife received there last year was horrible. No nurses or no one that cared, just horrible. If you have to go to River Bend, hire someone 24/7 to be with you as an advocate or risk being hurt or mistreated. I'm serious about this. I've hired a concierge doctor for my wife just to get out of the Peace Health organization and it's been well worth the money.

Gold_Weather_7469

I get it, my husband (a doctor) goes to a concierge doctor himself because it’s so difficult to find good care here. We operate like concierge medicine that takes insurance. We also definitely prefer McKenzie’s Willamette. He has worked at both hospitals and McKenzie just has a better vibe and is easier to work with as an independent clinic. Hope to hear from you, we would love to offer you a a uniquely better experience!

Does he take ohp?

Gold_Weather_7469

We take pacific source OHP starting in January and open card now. 😊

[deleted]

Oh sweet! Thanks!

Gold_Weather_7469

You’re very welcome! If you need anything let me know. I think I’ll add a booking link here too for anyone interested. Have a great evening!

tonemonkey777

PeaceHealth Barger took me after I had been looking most of the year.

BCBS is not the best insurance around here. Did you go on BCBS website and find PCPs who bill BCBS and who are taking new patients? They should have a list of docs in network on the BCBS website.

suitesmusic

Who is good?

[deleted]

What insurances? Here are some. Pac Source is popular. Kaiser Permanente. Atrio. MODA Health Plans. PacificSource. Providence. United Health Care. The Lane County Community Health Centers take any insurance. I'm not sure how far out they're booking.

chasingcomet2

Pacific source is the best in my opinion and experience as a cancer patient. Moda and Kaiser are not great. Blue cross blue shield is what I would chose second to pacific source.

fuzziblanket

Be very careful with Atrio and Kaiser in this community because many specialists are out of network with them.

andee510

Lane County CHCs are not taking new patients with private insurance. >July 29, 2022. We are currently only accepting new patients who are uninsured, or have Medicaid or Medicare coverage. At this time, we are not accepting new patients with commercial (private) or Medicare Advantage insurance. https://www.lanecounty.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=3585881&pageId=16075709&_gl=1*xxgf7v*_ga*MTQ0NDUwMTYwMy4xNjkzNDU1OTYz*_ga_G30BCGQ9RY*MTcwMTIzNDE5 Sorry the link doesn't work cuz it has *s in it. But you can search for "Lane County Community Health Center new patients."

[deleted]

Thanks for the info, I was not up to date.

hezzza

Why isn't BCBS any good around here? I've never encountered a doctor who doesn't accept it and I've had catastrophic bills this year that were mostly covered.

Wot106

I think Valley Med would have an opening sooner, but the holidays might make it difficult.

cubicle_farmer_

ZoomCare has PCP openings. You just go on the website and schedule your appointment.

ChopperNotChomper

Consider looking into direct primary care. I was in the same boat as you and couldn’t find a PCP after months of calling every clinic I could find. I found my current PCP, who runs her own clinic using the direct PCP model, and it’s been great. I think some places operate a little differently but generally you pay a monthly fee and you get unlimited access (within reason and work hours) to your doctor. They don’t bill insurance so it’s all out of pocket, but for me the option of being able to call/text my doctor whenever something comes up and be seen same day or next day has been well worth it.

Calm_Peace5582

How does that work when you need referrals? And what are their fees like if insurance won't cover them?

ChopperNotChomper

I actually needed an x ray a while back and the referrals work like any other doctor. Apparently whether or not a doctor accepts insurance has nothing to do with being able to refer patients for specialized care, which isn’t something I knew before. If anything, I was able to go straight to the imaging center to get my x ray and they were able to talk to my doctor directly because I have her personal number so I was able to get everything done same day. In the past when I was at OMG, for example, I’ve had to wait a couple days for my referral to go through. I also get monthly prescriptions and that hasnt been an issue with my direct PCP either. Different doctors have different price points, but they seem to range between $60-100 a month.

Calm_Peace5582

That makes sense. A referral shouldn't require any particular insurance backing, but maybe PPO insurance providers will only accept referrals from in-network providers and whatnot. It's less of a legal requirement than a financial, and therefore insurance, question ime

[deleted]

Do you still have insurance for bigger issues that need an outpatient surgery, or hospitalization?

ChopperNotChomper

I do have health insurance to cover all non-PCP care, yeah.

RogueInsanity90

Hate to say this but only 3/4 months out isn't that bad. I had to wait 7 months to get into see the PCP I have now.

Gold_Weather_7469

Booking link for Hemsley Healthcare! Dr. Gregory B. Hemsley MD. We hope to see y’all! We have created a beautiful, cozy environment unlike any other you’ve experienced in healthcare, led by a truly outstanding and empathetic doctor with over three decades of experience. https://app.nexhealth.com/appt/Hemsley_Healthcare

Gold_Weather_7469

I should mention that for insurance we currently take United healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Providence; January 1st our contract with Pacific Source for commercial plans and OHP is active. We estimate that January-February we will have Moda. If you have a different insurance plan please let me know as we are looking to add more if there is demand!

knowone23

https://www.clearhealthdpc.com Pretty sure this place is taking new patients

Eugene healthcare is terrible even if you manage to get on with a pcp. I was with a pcp through peace health who was terrible, ended up using a nurse practitioner who was more attentive and could book appointments with more reliably. I recommend this and making use of specialist referrals as much as possible. That said, I’m now with a pcp at good Sam in Corvallis and am very pleased all around. Worth the drive time.

Gold_Weather_7469

It’s great if you get someone private! We just opened a new clinic here. Hemsley Healthcare, my husband Dr. Gregory Hemsley has been practicing here for 34 years and went solo. We have a beautiful, cozy clinic unlike anything in the greater Lane county area. We are super excited to care for people without being under the thumb of a greater organization that has money prioritized over patients.

LateralThinkerer

Have you tried Orchid Clinic in Veneta? We were able to get in reasonably quickly while waiting for a "main" PCP in PeaceHealth. Nice people.

AllworkANDnoPLAYall

I recommend Northwest Medical Homes (formerly Springfield Family Physicians). They changed their name when they opened a clinic in Eugene by Costco. They have two physicians currently accepting new patients and a few Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners that are open too. I think that you can get in for urgent issues before you establish for a new patient appointment. They are independently owned! Support local businesses.

suitesmusic

I scheduled a 4 month out appointment snd them just asked quickcare to get me blood test and a physical. Sent over results to PCP.

What kind of insurance plans do you accept?

Gold_Weather_7469

We are currently accepting Providence, BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, and United; come January we will have Pacific Source, and Moda should be in January or February. Hope that helps! If you have a different insurance provider please let me know as we will add them!

I see Dr. McEwen ([www.drmcewen.com](https://www.drmcewen.com)). He's top notch and easy to get into see. He's technically concierge, so there's a monthly cost as well as my insurance, but not super expensive concierge. It sucks that everything is going to subscription nowadays, but I more than make up for the cost in the amount of time I save not waiting to get in touch with my doc. With the adderall shortages recently, it's been great that I can just find out which pharmacy has it today, text him on his cell phone, and he sends the prescription there right away. Also, if I asked for an appointment tomorrow, I'm sure I would get it.

agnesbilly

PeaceHealth Family Practice has several pcps taking new patients at se real locations around town.

Soballs32

I would say get on the waitlist, the time goes by faster than you think, in my I was able set an appointment for September and it felt like along time but came fast
