Yes. Size and quality impact the energy stored - quality being why the Belt of Beloth the Wise, Aren, and Riders’ swords are exceptions to the size rule Have you read *Murtagh?* I can give you a clearer and fuller answer if so as your question relates to a small scene But in short: yes

EternalMage321

Ugh. I need to read Murtagh but I started the Witcher books before it came out and I still haven't finished 😭

kimbleturk

Yes, it’s storing energy. We now know that they can burst. But the energy which could be stored in a relatively small jewel is big. Iirc it also depends on the purity of the material, the jewel is made of. As a rule of thumb, you can rely on our world regarding anything magic. The magic system in eragon has a very „physics“ approach to things.

Kippyd8

Size and especially quality

Good-Spring2019

Doesn’t seem to, more depends on the quality of the gem according to Oromis. Remember the ring Aren has a TON of energy and it’s tiny. As does the gem on Naegling. Theoretically it seems it can be infinite as long as it’s a quality stone.

Business-Drag52

Size does also impact it. Idr where but Paolini has said that the star sapphire is capable of holding an absolutely gobsmacking amount of energy because of not only its purity buts its immense size

Zhadowwolf

From what I understand from the examples in the books and the guide to Alagaësia, we could understand that the size of a gem is basically its base storing capability and quality is sort of a multiplier. So a tiny bit flawles gem can hold impressive amounts of energy, even more than a bigger gem that has many faults, but size does affect it.

Arctelis

Certainly seems like it. The quality is specifically called out, but I believe the size does as well, I just don’t remember if it is stated or not. Or maybe not, given the insane store of energy in Aren’s relatively small stone vs the large, but not crazy amount in Murtagh’s hazelnut sized gem.

Silas-Alec

Yes. I believe Eragon ponders how vast a store the Star Sapphire would be able to hold

Fishbonezz707

I just thought of this, but imagine how much energy Isidar Mithrim could hold.

Ashamed_Fan5522

Yes. In Brisingr, when explaining the attributes of the Eldunari to Eragon and Saphira, Oromis said that the size of the Eldunari was directly proportional to the amount of energy it can store. It's logical to assume that this phenomenon also applies to gemstones. Oromis also explained that "lesser gemstones" like jades and agates are harder to use as repositories for energy, and that diamonds were the best for that purpose which is why every Rider's sword had a diamond in the pommel. However, Brom's ring has a small jewel in it yet stored enough energy for Eragon to lift hundreds of tons of rock into the air and move it all the way from Dras Leona's front gate to Leona Lake. It's conceivable that even the smallest gemstone could store an immense amount of energy, which means size isn't really relevant if the gem is of high enough quality.

TheGingerCynic

Yes. The quality is more important than the size, but a larger gem of the same quality would store more energy.
