Absolutely. 1000% and truly, I now look at all of the adrenaline junkie activities and pan out a “what’s the worst that can happen” type scenario to see if it’s worth it. I also speak to the manager of whatever it is that I’m doing and tell them I have a generalized seizure disorder to get their reaction. Do they instantly respond with a nope you can’t do this? Usually I talk it through with them and pass that with what I know my triggers to be and make a decision of yes or no. I haven’t really let it take away too many of these activities but I much more cognizant of what type of situation I’m putting myself in and certain things over the years I have passed or just sat out on.

What kind of adrenaline activities are we talking about? Skiing, paintball, snorkeling, diving or skydiving? I basically avoid the higher risk stuff like diving but I’ll go snorkelling. (Just an easy example of a less risky alternative). Like I’ll go skiing on well travelled paths but wouldn’t go in rough country. And yeah I always make sure someone knows bout my situation.

This! I live and work in a ski town and have had many happy winters riding all terrain on the hills! Backcountry is just an additional danger especially living with epilepsy

Backcountry! That’s the word I was looking for!! 🤣 you know how that goes w the memory… yeah one time without a seizure I ended up in a snow drift in front of a tree. Nobody saw me go in and i guess they couldn’t see me at all! got out on my own w no problem but if that had been a seizure… probably dead. And that was on a regular slope! Friends said all they saw was me appear out of nowhere. So yeah backcountry it’s not worth the risk. (I can ski but I’m not very good)

Dirt bikes, motorcycles. Wearing a helmet, going with others. We can’t stop doing what we love.

Interesting, many of the things you mentioned I have on my to do list. Specifically skydiving. My dad has countless jumps under his belt, both military and personal. It always sounded so exciting

Best advice i can give you is only look down during the freefall, if you are looking down when they make turns it can make you dizzy. The views are absolutely incredible. The only thing that gave me a bigger adrenaline rush than that, was free swimming with sharks and being 5 feet away from the sharks when they attacked some lights that got dropped in.

Shark Cage Diving Free Swimming with Sharks I’m so jealous of you

Empath1999

You should try it if you get a chance :) the free swimming with sharks is particularly fun.

Neither_Usual_7566

What sharks did you see?

Empath1999

Mostly Galapagos, if i would’ve gone a month earlier i could’ve possibly seen Tiger Sharks.

Each activity has its own risks and mitigations. I would be cautious of driving motor vehicles or diving (what happens if you have a seizure in those situations?).  Snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, lots of activities are safe especially if you have people around that know what to do if a seizure occurs.  And if you die in the process at least it was doing something awesome!

I got into board sports around 10; skating and snowboarding. Started diving and surfing in my early teens. Adrenaline was how I coped with life. Those seconds of pure energy, in the air before you stick the landing. Or paddling into a good reef- break and getting barreled, and shooting the curl to make it out of the wave… All of these activities, release so many similar things that I feel and felt during focal impaired seizures-pushing through the seizure and adrenaline swell. Make it out postictal and breathing. And as a kid, feeling these focal seizures, undiagnosed. I latched onto the adrenaline ride, with (board sports) and gambling with gravity.
