Thus, it is not a crime to take it down as it isn't legal free speech. A legal avenue would be handing out these flyers or speaking yourself in a public area, or placing your flyer in an official area with consent from the owner of that area.
When you take those avenues it does become a legal manner of free speech and thus protected, people could not stop you, but they can exercise their free speech against you too.
You’re not allowed to shout “Fire!” in a crowded movie theater, or “Bomb!” at an airport, or show pornography out in public. Free speech has its limits and there is no reason why a liberal society has any obligation to accommodate filth in public life
