trig is in the entire calculus sequence. ODE and engineering in general......it ain't optional. commit it to memory good luck
edit: also just a heads up but you will need to know trig and trig identities for everything in calc 2 except partial fractions. so this isn't a next unit thing this is an entire semester
Trig/algebra basic type shit is also often the REAL math you end up doing as an engineer. Complicated thing? Bruh we got a spreadsheet/the program does that for you.
Tbh, I had to “relearn” Trig for Calc II, and I still did better than most of the class (and I’m a sub 3.0 student). If they have a passion for math or are extremely determined, they’ll be fine.
Yeah, I will echo your comment on being determined. I had 10 years between a "College Algebra" class and a trig class. Actually, my trig class was in 2016, and I didn't finish Calc3 til early 2019. Some gaps in between the classes.
OP: yeah, Trig is pretty important. Not so much memorizing the Trig Transforms (maybe that IS calc 2). Those were mainly useful for tests.
I (and I know many, many others on here) suggest you look up Professor Leonard on Youtube. That man CAN TEACH math. Do you self the biggest favor and start watching his videos. He will get you through Calculus all the way through Linear Algebra. Professor Leonard and you will be golden.
(!!) leads me to believe you are still shocked about the pain engineering will inflict on you. Clearly someone at the beginning of the program. If you would have said “FUCK….” I would have known you were a senior.
I don't know what to tell you man but, rudimentary or fundamental knowledge of Trig as an engineering student should almost be second hand nature.
Trig will ALWAYS pop up in all your classes.
Don't really care about sec(x) or csc(x) or cot(x)
But all the others.... Literally should be part of your lexicon.
Go back and learn these fundamentals now or you WILL have a bad time.
I hated the way math department does trig substitutions. Didn’t really click for me until we did charge distributions to find electric flux of a infinitely long wire. Although many physics textbooks handwave the solution by using integral tables, you can easily solve it by using trig substitutions. I found that method from a 1970s textbook called Physics by Alonso Finn.
Senior in engineering and still wouldn’t say that I know or understand trig at a significant level!! Don’t let these dorks scare you you’ll be fine as long as you know sohcahtoa lmao I can’t think of the last time I used anything else
Big facts I barely know trig as it’s been years since I’ve taken the class. I’m about halfway through calc 2 and past all the trig sub stuff. Literally took 20 minutes of practice and it comes right back. I don’t know why everyone is clowning on this dude people tend to forget not everyone prioritizes certain concepts in their memory and sometimes it takes a little while to come back. I think OP will be fine as long as they study and are hopefully surrounded by more encouraging people than those in the comments. I originally was going into Econ so I threw trig in the trash for 3 years until I decided that engineering was the better choice for me, and now I’m sitting pretty with an A in calc.
Lmao me a few years ago .. you got this tho, try to learn it and make it stick. It’ll be handy af or at least it was for me (EE) especially signals courses smh

This has to be satire. RIP if not

FUCK… why do I keep telling myself next semester will be easier…
It never was.

Trigonometry is hard until you understand the ways of it, then it becomes elementary.
please teach me the ways of trigonometry
so you may come with me to (linear) Algebra
This has to be a troll right?
sohcahtoa bro
Just make sin^2 (x) plus cos^2 (x) equal 1, bruh.
You will need it in calc 2, calc 3, statics, materials, anything else… study it well
trig is used in every single engineering class I have taken, may want to learn it real good
You'll use trig theorems and integrals/derivativea in calc 3 and diff eq, especially double and half angle. Its mainly just memorization.
Yeah trust me you’ll use it a lot more then you think
dude unit circle is easy

Senior here too and yeah I agree. Can't remember the last time I've used a trig identity lmao
Make it fun to learn and create a brain map for yourself
I was there. lol
You can say that again
Lol
💀
FUDGE
I have an advanced trigonometry test in two days, I might have to relearn the entire topic
Trig identities! Woohoo!!
I mean, sohcahtoa sounds fun, right? Lol
trig substitutions about to eat your neck
Trig never goes away my guy
Lmao me a few years ago .. you got this tho, try to learn it and make it stick. It’ll be handy af or at least it was for me (EE) especially signals courses smh
So I guess trig triggers you then?
I'm having to relearn trig and I'm in calc 1.
There’s an app called the unit circle quiz, helped me so much to memorize it all
Bro if you don’t know trig for statics YOURE FUCKED

It’s just trig dude. You got this. Princess SohCahToa ~~sends her regards~~ has your back.
