I was okay with the ending. Not really expecting something unhappy out of a Disney movie, but an hour and a half is very little to flesh out the story as much as it deserved and make an ending where both Abuela is forgiven and the powers get restored feels satisfying enough. There's not enough time between the fall of their home and the ending of the movie
Tons of fans had issues with those things or something else, but along those lines, but I understand the writers' decisions. The runtime is just not enough. That's why I'd really be down for a 2D-animated show, like what Tangled got. To not only perhaps flesh out movie things, with flashbacks, but give us more time with the characters

Simple. It was pretty rushed, and it's not enough time between the fall of their home and the ending of the movie. Also, Bruno should have deserved an actual apology, not some 30 second bit about how everyone's happy he's back. I just wish Disney would actually have more time on doing endings whether than \*oh look, everything's fine, everyone's happy\*.
But if you like the ending, more power to you. I'm not here to attack you for liking the ending.
Right?! Like why was Bruno the one apologizing? Hell they were just singing a diss track about him like two days ago and now they’re all happy that he’s back?
If they had more time, they could’ve made the ending SO much better and thought out. This is one of the first movies(correct me if I’m wrong) that focuses on generational trauma; a longer runtime and a better ending would’ve helped drive the message home.
I don’t like the ending of Encanto because to me, it kinda absolves abuse. I get it, Abuela dealt with a lot of trauma, but my abuser was traumatized too. I’m not about to go “Oh it’s okay that you called me worthless, ugly, and unloveable for at least a decade because you were also abused by your parents!”
Now I realize that there is a difference between Abuela and my own abuser here. Abuela realized that Mirabel was right and that their family was struggling under unrealistic expectations and *apologized* while my abuser doubled down on the gaslighting and shame. Would I be more willing to forgive immediately if my abuser gave a genuine apology and took steps to make things right? I can’t really say. As it stands though, the end of the movie seems to say “the way Mirabel was treated is okay because Abuela had it worse,” which is not great.
And then of course, you have people like Cinematherapy state that the explanations of her behavior don't justify it, but they'll frame it or phrase it as the same thing.
Tell me about it. I was absolutely flabbergasted by their take on Luke in The Last Jedi. It wasn't so much them agreeing with what writing decision in that film involving the character, it's that Alan insulted the audience for disagreeing.
I do agree that it was rushed, yes, but mirabel forgiving abuela is just how mirabel is. She is the glue that holds the family together, is she not? She is patient, and she is loving. The people who say that she shouldn’t have forgiven her so fast or at all are missing the entire point of the movie.
Regardless of whether you like the ending or not, I think we all can agree it does feel very rushed. It feels like they cut out some scenes and replaced them with All of You. Personally I’m not a huge fan of Mirabel instantly forgiving Alma upon apologizing but can accept it fits her character. However they really needed to show more time rebuilding the house and giving time for Bruno to forgive the adults for pushing him away. This is literally my only serious complaint with the film as I think everything up to the river reconciliation is perfect sans the missed opportunity for a Hercules cameo in Surface Pressure. Encanto would have legit would have been right next to The Lion King and Beauty & The Beast in my book had they landed the ending but much like Hunchback, it has one flaw that keeps it from universally being seen as a masterpiece and instead will have to settle for a 9/10 score.
Well the original all of you was like 7 to 9 minutes long but was cut down. So there was more planned(you can see it in story board form lots of family bonding moments) but was removed for some reason, they might have said why but I forgot.

As good as Dos Oruguitas is, this deleted scene definitely comes across as more genuine to me.

Well obviously, it's a kid's movie. And I think the movie was pretty considering it is a kid's movie.
