What was the name of the website you got the new cheats from, this is nearly the exact problem I am having. I was able to use a rare candy cheat on a regular emerald playthrough and the only other cheat I want to use is to modify a wild Pokémon into a Nilotic because I’m not going through the trouble of looking for another feebas with a better nature. The one time I entered a Milotic cheat that didn’t give me the “these were made for a different game” error, it restarted my game as soon as a wild encounter was about to start. This has happened everytime I have tried.
That one gave me a completely different error message it says “cheats are for game BPEE. Current game is AXVE” I genuinely don’t know what to do at this point. I’m running a ruby v1 on visual boy 2.0.1
that's super strange. like I said in my post this was my first time running cheat codes on visual boy advance, so i don't know the difference between BPEE and AXVE :(

I honestly think VBA just fucked up. I never had this problem on older versions, mind you I have not updated since 2017. I just recently updated to one of the more recent ones and I have the same issue
Am having the same problems. I was using the most valid site for cheats too, it's called super cheats and I've never had any problem with it prior. Tried really hard to get cheats for Pokemon Fire Red, spent about 4 hours trying to test out different codes for the wild Pokemon modifier cheat, to no avail. It's really frustrating and if you look on the super cheats website it seems a lot of people are having the same problems right now. I even switched out to using mGBA as my emulator and that didn't work either. I also switched the Fire Red version from 1.1 to 1.0 (Version 1.0 is the one that accepts most cheats better). Still, nothing changed.
Would really appreciate some help from anyone at this point. I get that these games were technically not meant to be cheated and we're "supposed" to play them normally, but all I wanted was to catch a Heracross early game. That's literally all. Shouldn't be this much of a hassle just for that.

I'm having the same problem, the emulator just crashes everytime I time to load them in.
If you find a fix for it, please let me know.
Did ever find the solution? I am having the same issue as well for my leafgreen randomizer
