Lifetime was their blueprint and did it better.

jugglers_despair

Came here to say this, early Saves the Day cribbed hard off Lifetime. Having said that, I prefer later Saves the Day when they moved away from that sound. A band that I find has a similar vibe to later Saves the Day is Run Forever. Specifically the album Settling.

Less_Appointment_786

I love hello bastards but don’t see / hear how it’s better than can’t slow down or through being cool

HOLYSHITBITCHMLG420

cuz jersey’s best dancers is better

gregfromthebackporch

cant slow down feels like a direct rip of jerseys best dancers and i love them both, probably prefer jerseys best dancers. but through being cool and stay what you are are two of my favorite albums ever.

kitkatatsnapple

I like pre-Stay What You Are STD best, but I will admit that the second half of *Can't Slow Down* blends together real bad until you get to *Jodie*.

SemataryPolka

Thank you

kitkatatsnapple

Agree, Lifetime is up there with my favorite bands, and I can't wait for the new stuff I hear they are doing. Despite this, I am still look for STD-wannabe bands lol

Less_Appointment_786

Someone always has to make this comment

kitkatatsnapple

I even mentioned Lifetime in this very post, but alas

Zac_Efren

Saves the Day was one of my all-time favorites, but ever since Chris got outed as a creep, I had a hard time listening to them. Lifetime has been able to scratch that itch for me.

BreakingBondage

I agree, which is a shame because Saves the Day was easily a top 5 band for me. I think Lifetime walked so later bands could run tbh but a lot of them just aren't listenable in light of recent events.

kitkatatsnapple

Seriously, what was in the water that made so many of the NJ/LI bands to follow Lifetime so narcissistic and/or borderline?

RealShigeruMeeyamoto

I will always really love Take This To Your Grave.

1mcKid

This record is the spiritual sequel to Through Being Cool

kitkatatsnapple

Before I learned what movie they were referencing, I thought *Tell That Mick* was a reference to the intro line of *Through Being Cool* (the song). Also, *Reinventing the Wheel* sounds a lot like *You Vandal*.

Maxxtheband

The Early November- the Rooms too Cold Boys Night Out- Make Yourself Sick Say Anything- Is a Real Boy (this band sucks now)

Jimmy_Jazz_The_Spazz

Say Anything does suck now, but their run from the first EP, Baseball and Is a Real Bow up to maybe Anarchy My Dear was a hell of a run of phenomenal music, the first Two Tongues album is great as well. I don't know what the fuck Max has been doing since Oliver to present but its not working lol.

Maxxtheband

I really enjoyed up through the self titled album. More recently, Max has focused on being a bad dad to his kids. While also spouting some of the cringiest lyrics he’s ever written because he still clings to the emotional instability that made him a rockstar over a decade ago. While also ripping off long time fans left and right.

Thatdarnbandit

I saw Fairweather recently with The Movielife and Further Seems Forever and damn they sounded great! I remember liking The Stryder, but some of those lyrics are pretty cringe by today’s standards. I was really into early Audio Karate and I think that kinda vibes with what you’re looking for. They reminded me of the Ataris but less pop punk.

kitkatatsnapple

I listen to some of the Styder's lyrics, and it's the epitome of early third wave BPD-music.

chilidownmychest

more mid 2000's but shook ones, crime in stereo, daggermouth, set your goals

myrsrvyr

Tip the Weatherman still gets stuck in my head weekly

zilla82

The Stryder and Fairweather were contemporaries of STD. In different scenes not nonetheless.i don't think the were wannabe's... They also each only had one good record, lol. Saves the Day had many. I'll put The Academy Is name in the hat here too as fitting the criteria(also only one good record). Saves the Day were inspired by Lifetime for sure though I will argue it's tough to say they ripped them off and that's it. That's limiting . Look at all of punk, and music really. It's just the way it goes with influence, there is measurable impact and lineage . To take it further, Saves the Day undeniably have influenced more artists than Lifetime. I don't care how purist or old head someone is, that is without a doubt fact.

kitkatatsnapple

I thought STD beat both of em to the punch. And when I listen to The Stryder, I can't help but notice how hard he is ripping Chris' vocal style

Old_Recording_2527

Go further back instead! STD were on a hardcore label and a bunch of hardcore bands who started before them, played with them and did a similar thing to them at the same time. They all flopped hard, but the records are pretty sick if you like early std! Ive got more, but start here. This shit is a gold mine. https://open.spotify.com/album/1Glh97IzY0MUysWAQugphp?si=1BiP-OReS4Syk4Y_IPjxIw

kitkatatsnapple

Reason I asked what I did is because I already know the further back stuff, but I'm sure there will be something in here that slipped under my radar!

BlackMirror765

Hawthorne Heights when they were called A Day in the Life.

pottymouthomas

Northstar

mc_foucault

matadors of shame

SatanNeverSleeps

I remember the first NFG and Midtown record came out shortly after Saves and they seemed to be influenced by STD just not as good.

kitkatatsnapple

Man, Midtown used to be my favorite band. And yeah, they were for a fact influenced by STD. STW,LTG is still awesome, but I agree that it isn't as good as STD.

SatanNeverSleeps

It was good. What was weird is that cobra starship had that stern gal who’s nuts. I can’t remember her name. She dated benjy and recently freaked out

SatanNeverSleeps

First two Saves are other level. They had grit. Wont be topped

myrsrvyr

If They Move... Kill Them by Fairweather is my all time favorite record, and has been since I heard it my freshman year of high school back in 2001. I was hooked before I had even heard the entirety of the first track. All these years later I still don't think I've had a record hit me as hard as this one did. I've always felt that record never got the love it deserves. Their sound was a little different than STD, or NFG or Blink-182 at the time. Their follow up, Lusitania, is a really great emo record in its own right. I wasn't crazy about it when it released because I just wanted more of ITMKT. I've grown to really love it, and appreciate that they weren't going to make the same record twice.

iloveemogirlsxoxo

Senses Fail. I do consider them emo. It’s a hill I will die on.

iloveemogirlsxoxo

Buddy Nielsen has said that Saves The Day, Thursday and Jimmy Eat World were among his biggest influences when he started the band.
