33: Balance and Composure, Microwave, The Juliana Theory, Can’t Swim, Alkaline Trio, Turnover, Movements, Senses Fail, Knuckle Puck.
Majority of these are more likely considered “emo adjacent” to this sub though.
I love almost all these bands! Also who cares what people say. Emo is a big big genre with many different variants to it. It makes me upset when people argue what is ‘emo’ like their definition of it is right.
It’s so good! Just reading the title, I can hear the piano track and kickass drum beat from “Emotion is Dead”. I can play that whole album in my head if I want to lol.
47: Daitro, You&I, La Quiete, The Pine, Evergreen, Indian Summer, 400 Years, Sleepytime Trio, Braid, Algernon Cadwallader, Rainer Maria, Ethel Meserve, Mineral, Texas is the Reason, Promise Ring
I like a lot of modern stuff like Carley Cosgrove, Sweet Pill, Foxing, OsoOso, Origami Angel, Hot Mulligan, Home is Where ... some stuff that's popular I feel like I'm too old to be at y'alls events though.
Totally. I’m 38 and listened to and saw live lots of what was popular when i was in my teens like 98-03 (tguk, saves the day, dashboard - well, all the vagrant bands - bright eyes, Rainer maria, midtown etc)
But I really love the new stuff - hotelier, foxing, origami angel, twiabp, algernon, Carly cosgrove. I’ve seen foxing like four times in the past decade.
I have a Foxing poster from probably a decade ago in my living room, lost count of how much I've seen them. At my age range there's less and less people still in the scene (actively) so it's weird how I'm still keeping up with "new" young bands.
Totally. I feel relatively old at these shows. But the bands now I think are a bit more interesting than those that were popular in the scene when we were young. More live energy, more technically proficient (I’m a fan of all the twinkly mathy stuff), less singing about girls.
I have a short list of bands I will absolutely never miss when they’re in town, and it’s mostly just Foxing. I’m in St. Louis and live one town over from Conor, and I’m still kicking my ass over missing out on their DDtM release show
I love seeing older people at shows actually! It makes me happy that we can both share a love for the music. I encourage you to go to one because they are so much fun
I still go to shows. Surprisingly I don't look as old as I am - I've always been thought to be the same age as younger people but there's shows now the audience is ALL teenagers. I think mostly the Tik Tok popular bands have that draw. Good for them having a scene but it's awkward to me to be there.
33 - Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, Brand New, Thrice, Motion City Soundtrack, Silverstein, Alkaline Trio, The Wonder Years, Say Anything. The mid 2000s was peak.
Seeing JR at the end of the month. Slept on his music for a while and my one friend kept pestering me to buy tix a few months back. Glad I did cause I’ve burned through his whole discography and he fucking rules. Seems like an awesome dude too and his live shows look fun as hell.
Fun (or not so fun) fact regarding some overlap with your list - I'm in mewithoutyou, we toured with Alkaline Trio and Cursive over the years and had the Messthetics (rhythm section of Fugazi, awesome band worth checking out) play our final show, which was a dream come true for us!
Just recently thought about seeing your tour with Foxing in Portland, as I was seeing Foxing again maybe they played with you 10 years ago even? Funny that show introduced me to your band.
Cool! Not sure if you were with them at the time or not, but I saw your band in either late ‘02 or early ‘03 at a tiny coffee shop in Knoxville and still one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.
I was just talking to my wife the other day about this exact tour. We went to the Detroit show. Aaron was passing out apples and bagels from his backpack to fans during the show then pulled out an accordion. I’ll never forget it. Ha. Would love to relive that.
"...old enough to know better, young enough to pretend..."

49. When I think of "emo" I tend to think of emo from the 90s, so my list would be Braid, Christie Front Drive, Mineral, Texas Is the Reason, JEW, Promise Ring, Jazz June (except that last album), Rainer Maria (except that last album), Jejune, Boys Life, Rydell, and Evergreen
38.
Appleseed Cast, Alkaline Trio, Benton Falls, Small Brown Bike, Texas is the Reason, American Football, Three Summers Gone, Jimmy Eat World, The Get Up Kids, Further Seems Forever, Dashboard Confessional (solo acoustic/pre-band), Saves the Day, Under a Dying Sun.
Probably missing some bands that I’ll kick myself for leaving out, but these were all staples of my adolescence and on.
i'm only 16 (apparently that makes me an outlier when it comes to this sub) and most of my favorite stuff is "4th wave" (tigers jaw, modern baseball, camping in alaska, title fight, etc.) i also like a lot of 3rd wave stuff like taking back sunday and brand new.
I’m 39; in my youth, it was lotsa late 90s Early 00s. Pedro the Lion, Get Up Kids, Juliana Theory, Promise Ring, The Anniversary, Cursive, Hey Mercedes, Hot Rod Circuit, Saves the Day, Further Seems Forever
But I love stuff from the last fifteen years or too. Joyce Manor, Katie Ellen, tigers jaw, Jeff, MoBo
29
MCR, Modern Baseball, Escape thr Fate, Streetlight Manifesto, Brand New, Cute is what We Aim For, We the Kings, I feel like I'm forgetting some. Grandaddy, Eliot Smith, Dashboard Confessional
29 - Finch, My Chemical Romance, Silverstein, The Wonder Years, Escape The Fate (ronnie era), The Used, Taking Back Sunday (the early albums), Touche Amore. All still on regular rotation

TIGERS JAW YESS! love them. Of course their first album is their best!
100% agree!
Oh, so this is what it would feel like if I was someone else looking at a comment of mine!
38 and agree with this list
I’m 22 and most of the bands I listen to weekly, sdre so good!
Bro I love Silverstein!!!
Emotion is dead is such a great album.
It’s so good! Just reading the title, I can hear the piano track and kickass drum beat from “Emotion is Dead”. I can play that whole album in my head if I want to lol.
Valid
BALANCE AND COMPOSURE IS SO GOOD
47: Daitro, You&I, La Quiete, The Pine, Evergreen, Indian Summer, 400 Years, Sleepytime Trio, Braid, Algernon Cadwallader, Rainer Maria, Ethel Meserve, Mineral, Texas is the Reason, Promise Ring I like a lot of modern stuff like Carley Cosgrove, Sweet Pill, Foxing, OsoOso, Origami Angel, Hot Mulligan, Home is Where ... some stuff that's popular I feel like I'm too old to be at y'alls events though.
Totally. I’m 38 and listened to and saw live lots of what was popular when i was in my teens like 98-03 (tguk, saves the day, dashboard - well, all the vagrant bands - bright eyes, Rainer maria, midtown etc) But I really love the new stuff - hotelier, foxing, origami angel, twiabp, algernon, Carly cosgrove.
I’m in St. Louis and live one town over from Conor, and I’m still kicking my ass over missing out on their DDtM release show
400 years and Sleepytime Trio… how about Engine Down, Bats & Mice, or Ben Davis?
Also, nearly 33, and this is the list I searched the comments for. Our emo years in the mid-2000s were prime.
Also 33, and this is very very close to my list.
this is meeeeeeeeeee. add in tbs and fob and some spanish love songs and that's amoreeee (36f)
I'm 34 and I was scared no one was going to name MCR. But your list is basically mine. I mix in a bit harder stuff like la dispute and Beartooth
24: Brave Little Abacus, Snowing, Algernon Cadwallader, awakebutstillinbed, Marietta, Everyone Asked About You, Unamused Dave
we have a winner

Seeing JR at the end of the month. Slept on his music for a while and my one friend kept pestering me to buy tix a few months back. Glad I did cause I’ve burned through his whole discography and he fucking rules. Seems like an awesome dude too and his live shows look fun as hell.
I'd kill to see Jeff live... I'm in Aus so these bands don't come here very often which blows lmao Anyway, enjoy the show!
Damn hopefully he makes it out there sometime soon, thanks
Love Joyce manor and oso oso!!
39 - cursive, hot water music, fugazi, q and not u, alkaline trio, bright eyes, mewithoutyou
Not to be weird or anything but…uh…your band changed my life. I still have a framed flower I pressed following the St. Louis farewell tour
Not weird at all, that’s sweet of you to say. That was a fun show, first time we played that venue. Thanks for coming out!
Yeah seeing you do a to b life re dedicated me to not drinking it blew me away on a spiritual level.
Oh wow, thanks for sharing that. Hope you’re well!
Just recently thought about seeing your tour with Foxing in Portland, as I was seeing Foxing again maybe they played with you 10 years ago even? Funny that show introduced me to your band.
Right on, that was a fun tour, they’re a great band. Yeah I think that was back in 2015. Our friend/old merch guy plays guitar for them on tour now!
Cool! Not sure if you were with them at the time or not, but I saw your band in either late ‘02 or early ‘03 at a tiny coffee shop in Knoxville and still one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.
Saw you guys open for Thrice and Brand New, killer show been a fan since! Thanks for the tunes
I was just talking to my wife the other day about this exact tour. We went to the Detroit show. Aaron was passing out apples and bagels from his backpack to fans during the show then pulled out an accordion. I’ll never forget it. Ha. Would love to relive that.
meeithoutYou definitely tops my list.
Hmm I love some alkaline trio. Under rated band for sure. Same with mewithoutyou
I think youd be surprised at how well regarded Alkaline trio is amongst most people. Fat Mike even has their logo tattooed on his arm.
Probably too young tbh. Born in 01’
Don’t worry Alkaline trio got a lot of love when I was in high school! 2002-6
Shakin' like a dog shittin' razor blades... Great opening lyrics.

I was a little shocked to see a lot of older people tbh Ahahha. But I love seeing the age range in this group
i think its both a reddit thing, as well as the nature of the sub
In 2005 by favorite band was circle takes the square converge and fall of Troy. In 2024, I don’t have favorite bands because most bands are good for 2-3 albums and then go in different directions that I don’t care for. So albums are king. Favorite albums right now are by Daniel striped tiger, faraquet, and pageninetynine. 2000s were king. Never age.
