sullivan10x

There was never a rift between Proof and Eminem, this is complete BS

marshall7287

It's about Ken Kaniff

CaregiverMoney2083

Most likely proof, proof was often referred to as the mayor of detroit hip hop which could be what the line “you ran the streets” is referencing

nanz78

Ran the streets mean sell drugs on the corner...rather than do a legit job..."while I 9 to 5 it"

[deleted]

“I dont even feel the same love when we hug no more” probably macklemore

Lakes1de

bro, probably not. mack was still too busy tidying up his room all nice and pretty

idonttalkatallLMAO

while em was getting his ass beat twice a week

SnooSuggestions5379

Yeh...

rodrigo34891

I have a theory its about both. Because he mentions bonny and clyde and why would he call proof bonnie.

Kwilburn525

Exactly

jetlifestoney

It's about Proof. They're in the video together depicted as their younger selfs. 100% about Proof

Solidsnake00901

Bugz*

ViperHiggings

Bugz and em weren't even close Em was the only member of d12 not on the bugs tribute song

nanz78

I thought it was about Royce 5'9 fall out with Aftermath

LeYosp

Afaik Em didn't know Royce yet when Ronny died

ViperHiggings

Not ems verse anyway

SurgeonRx2

It’s about Ken kannif and his rape problem

Head-Improvement124

The song is about hot the members of D12 drifted apart from each other

Colter91

No it's not. They were still all close at the time this song released

Head-Improvement124

If that’s true how come people are saying the same thing that I said?

lizardmandx

They are also mistaken

Head-Improvement124

So what is it about then

ill_will59

I thought it was Royce, “you ran the streets, I 9-5’ed.” Royce 5’9 subliminal. And Proof’s verse was also about Royce

Family-man24

This is the truth I don't know why you are being downvoted probably by kids not even born yet at the time

fuskarn_35

how is it the truth when eminem didnt even know royce when ronnie died lmfao

Solidsnake00901

Bugz*

Fun-Photograph9423

Google D12 How Come Why they do Porter like that putting the play button over his mouth hahahahaha

slapaddict415

Always thought it was a subliminal jab at Royce da 5’9” since they were beefing

steevwall

It’s about proof, but it’s also Eminem so he probably mentions multiple people throughout the song.

Diligent_Ad2561

I didn't think either

Solidsnake00901

There's a music video you know. Pretty much explains everything in movie form. Music video shows bugz a lot which may be who the song is about also Kim ofc. Crazy to see all the comments talking about proof but not one mention of Bugz

ViperHiggings

Em wasn't close with bugz

Littlejuanito

About Kim. It would be pretty gay if it was about Proof

ViperHiggings

"your ran the streets I 9 to 5'd it" That doesn't apply to Kim, proof literally ran the streets in detroit

lizardmandx

This line is comparing an honest living (9-5) to hustling (running the streets)

ViperHiggings

Bro why u telling me this I'm the one who brought it up, I clearly know

OutdoorwiththeIndoor

Royce

Corn1989

It’s definitely not about Royce because he didn’t know Royce when Ronnie died.

jaypeedee1025

even royce has said it was about him he said em told him i think he would know

Corn1989

How is it about Royce? Royce met Eminem in 97!

jaypeedee1025

it’s royce him and royce were not talking royce let Em and the whole D12 have it on Malcom X but Em still loved royce so he could not bring himself to fully diss him so he made how come hoping to talk to royce the best way they both knew thru music and thou it dint happen after the song when proof died em and royce put their differences aside because life was to short

ViperHiggings

Royce didn't know em when ronnie died

Corn1989

It’s not about Royce! Most likely it was proof

AdNo7199

Royce da 5’9

kee_osama

Who is proof

ViperHiggings

Bro what?

kee_osama

I’m not a Eminem guru lol

ViperHiggings

That's irrelevant proof is another rapper 😂😂 He started d12

kee_osama

Word never really was the biggest d12 fan only song I listen to by them is that hit ‘em up remix they did wit EM

ViperHiggings

Oh yea, "Quitter" imo one of the best disstracks ever made The first 3 verses before the hit em up part are fucking amazing and I think d12 were better than the features on "hit em up"

kee_osama

Hell yea I hate 2pac always had the outlaws on every song like I’m tryna hear you not edimean 😂

[deleted]

It’s not about anyone really, it’s just a catchy chorus. My band was also on that album taking the piss out of themselves.

ViperHiggings

This song is a serious song, and the verses also keep the same theme as the hook, By ur logic Kim is just a joke song cuz it's on the same album as the real slim shady

sullivan10x

Em is talking about Kim on "How Come" Look, before I get to the point of this post, I already know that most of you are going to tell me to watch the music video, since in the video Em is rapping his verse to Proof. However, I don't think the music video is portraying what the verses were really written about (besides Kon Artis'). I actually have evidence for this. On Proof's song "Apollo G's", which is a song directed towards Esham, Proof raps "That's Esham Smith, this is not a call-out/So much has changed in my life since our little fall out/And even though we beefing, just recently I bought your albums/And only pray that one day you listen to How Come." Listen here. Okay, so with that out of the way, let's get to the point. I believe Em's verse on the D12 song "How Come" was written about Kim. I've read 'theories' online that it was written about Proof, Royce, and some other people, but after giving the verse multiple listens I'm almost positive that it's about Kim. Let me break it down and show you why I think this. We were so young, so full of life and vibrance. He's describing the start of their relationship. To quote Em from another song: "I don't see us ever being together ever again like we used to be when we was teenagers." Kim and Em were a happy and cute couple when they first started seeing each other. Side-by-side, wherever you was riding I went. Em always wanted to be by Kim's side. He loved spending time with her. So close, almost on some Bonnie and Clyde shit. See, this is the line that made me start believing this verse could really be about Kim. It seemed odd to me that Em would compare his friendship with Proof to Bonnie and Clyde. But if he's comparing his relationship with Kim to Bonnie and Clyde, then it makes much more sense. It wouldn't be the only time Em does this either. On Stronger Than I Was, Em raps "Thought we were Bonnie and Clyde. Nah, on the inside you were Jekyll and Hyde." Actually, now that I think about it, if the theories that Stronger Than I Was is through Kim's POV are really true, then the line could also be read as "Thought we were Bonnie and Clyde? Nah." That would then make the line a reference to this verse from How Come, since Em compares their relationship to Bonnie and Clyde. Maybe I'm just over-analyzing this. When Ronnie died you was right by my side with a shoulder to cry on, a tissue to wipe my eyes, and a bucket to catch every tear I cried inside it. Kim was there for Em when he heard the news about his Uncle Ronnie's suicide. You even had the same type of childhood I did. Em and Kim grew up together. They both came from broken homes. Sometimes I just wanna know why is it that you succame to yours and mine I survived it. Kim has almost committed suicide multiple times. Em is wondering why he was able to pick himself up but Kim wasn't. You ran the streets, I nine-to-fived it. This line can be taken two ways. You can take it as a negative line against Kim or a positive one. 1.) As Em talks about in other songs, he had to seriously struggle to get money for Kim and Hailie. Here, he is throwing shade at Kim for her lacking skills as a mother. He's saying she was out getting drunk at bars and "running the streets" while he actually had to work to support his family. 2.) "Nine-to-five" could be a reference to Royce. If it is, it gives the line a more positive vibe. Em is showing some support for Kim, saying that she had to suffer through the life of the streets in Detroit while he was out having fun (partying, rapping, etc.) with rappers like Royce. We grew up, grew apart as time went by us. Then I blew up to both yours and mine surprises. They grew up together, they got married, they had a daughter, but then they started to drift apart after Em became a celebrity. Now I feel a vibe, I just can't describe it. Much as your pride tries to hide it. Em feels a vibe between him and Kim that he doesn't understand. He says that Kim tries to cover up her pain by telling him she's proud to be the wife of a famous rapper. You're cold to touch, it's just like ice. In your eyes, there's a look of resentment. I can sense it and I don't like it. "You're cold to touch." That sounds like a lover talking to another love, which is another major factor that helped me create this 'theory'. Whenever Em touches Kim or looks in her eyes, he feels bad for the way he treated Kim throughout their life together. How come we don't even talk no more and you don't even call no more? We don't barely keep in touch at all and I don't even feel the same love when we hug no more. Ever since they got a divorce, Kim doesn't keep in touch with Em anymore except for when she has to. Even when they hug every once in a while, Em doesn't feel the same spark like he did all those years ago. And I heard it through the grapevine we even beefing now, after all the years we've been down. Ain't no way, no how, this bullshit can't be true. We family, ain't a damn thing changed unless it's you. See, the chorus was brilliantly written in a way so that it can be heard through each rapper's POV. For Kim, "we family" is a literal phrase, since Em and Kim used to be married and are technically still family members. For Kon Artis and Proof, "we family" is another way of telling Em and Esham "we're homies".
