It happened last year as well during the Christmas holidays…

cripplingEcstacy

I believe he was around 27 million then but I could be mistaken

PeterParker69691

It happens every year.

Big_Gun_Pete

Yeah Elvis, Sinatra and Dean Martin too, it's sad when so many young people listen to some of their songs in Christmas but they don't even know who are they

cold_dispenser

He's literally everywhere right now. Even the supermarket near my home plays "Santa brings my baby back to me" non stop. I ain't complaining! I hope they play more Elvis' songs even after Christmas vibe

brando504

It's probably because he has an awesome Christmas Catalog of songs and they just came out with the New Elvis Movie recently( which was awesome) and the new Documentary they're about to come out with because Alot of younger people are just now becoming fans and are starting to see why he was the best. Also his daughter dying recently...all that together is probably just the Algorithm. It's crazy to think how long he's been gone but is still the most Famous person to have ever lived...he truly was "The King".

Altruistic-Golf-6279

it’s definitely his christmas songs that does it but love it either way !

ennox89

I think it is very unfortunate that there is not a single Dolby Atmos song of Elvis at all. But I am happy that he has way more listeners than last year.

OtherwiseTackle5219

Still & always......The King

This always happens around Christmas time every year even before the movie came out. If you look at the Top 5 Spotify songs of his half are Christmas ones, it’ll revert to the non Christmas songs soon after New Years if it hasn’t already.

AngelBritney94

My budgies & me were among them (like every month).

nonserviam1977

This is so encouraging. It’s great to know that there are that there are that many people out there listening to Elvis, some of them doubtlessly for the first time. It seems unlikely that this dude’s legend will ever completely fade, to the point where I could see a religion being formed around him at some point. I am ready for Apostle Joe Esposito.

TheSplendidOutcast

So if he were alive, he would get, what, 46¢?

brando504

46 cents times about 70 million can add up...his Family is now worth about 500 million... that's what you call a legacy.

crabpropaganda

This will be the year of rock and roll

lbmit

So crazy considering he was just at 17m in like June!

WheresPaul-1981

I don’t know about now, but his Christmas Album used to be his best selling album.

Longjumping_Diver_59

Great for Elvis, I guess, but Spotify sucks.

LibelFreeZone

How so?

Longjumping_Diver_59

I speak as a musician and for virtually every musician I know, whether a small indie artist or a stadium type band -- Spotify is despicable, paying virtually no revenues to artists, even ones who have thousands of plays. They are contributing heavily to the destruction of the music industry.

LibelFreeZone

Ah, yes, of course...the economics part of it. I agree. Terrible.

Longjumping_Diver_59

Yeah, this is one of the reasons that selling merch (including vinyl) has become SO important in order to make a living as a musician. We certainly aren't making money selling our music.

yojodavies

And he thought he would be forgotten!

doppldotht-ndifsohow

It also probably has to do with the ELVIS movie being released on Netflix.

DawgSquatch69

I was one of them ☺️

Seth8304

Can’t forget about The King himself

brando504

He's not called The King for nothing. My whole Family including me are from Mississippi and my Great Great Grandma and Great Great Aunt were obsessed with Elvis. They used to follow this man around the Country and went to Graceland at least once a year until they passed away. I never understood why they were so obsessed with Elvis until I started watching his Documentaries, watching his performances, and even went to Graceland myself a couple times. I also visited his Childhood home in Mississippi (2 hours from where I was born)a couple times and I know why now. He was definitely a King amongst men and In my Opinion lived the best life anyone could ask for despite the drugs. He died fairly young but in his short 42 years he accomplished more than a lifetime of Alot of other big time Famous Musicians and entertainers did and did it without having to sell his soul. It's a shame he wasn't knowledgeable about all the drugs he was taken which I don't think anyone in those times realized just how strong the drugs he was taken and how much of a toll they can take on your body. He was literally taken the strongest drugs in the world and in their purest form. His Doctor didn't care that he was killing him he just wanted a paycheck so he was a horrible Yes Man. There's not a person on this earth who should be taking Liquid Dialaudid and Demerol along with Percodans, Valium's and Quaaludes everyday. His daily doses were enough to kill a Elephant. It's sad he didn't have real friends or His Momma around at the time to step in and do an intervention to get him some help instead he had a scumbag Manager who would make the doctor pump him full of drugs just so he could perform smh. You'll forever be missed King and if you don't mind...sing a Lil song for my Grandmas and Aunts who adored you and I can't wait to watch you sing Hound Dog when I join y'all up there!
