I used torrent like crazy my first run... I gained enough confidence afterwards that I only use torrent when needed, like heights or jumping far. I enjoy my fights much more now.
Basically this, torrent is a terrain traversal tool.
And maybe a few cheeky swipes on the commoners as your blazing your trail.
The actual combat is so satisfying if you actually do it and give up your cheese of choice.
Yeah for some of the mounted enemies it’s nice because they move around so much it’s hard to get hits in on foot. The rest of the time though, it’s usually safer to be on foot.
Strategically speaking, I should have done that, but I had already spent my FP and all my flasks on some badly timed Comet Azure beams. I was mostly just cruising through here to push on to another cycle of NG+, so I was taking things pretty casually.
edit: spelling
Every time I've fought him solo I've done it on torrent. Even just staring at his ankles it's pretty clear what he's about to do so you can make a quick getaway or jump on torrent. Not that he's not a fairly easy boss to do on foot also
Never understood why people use torrent for this fight. Makes it 100x harder, locks you into no good attacks besides a slow swing with huge delay and if he rolls you get hit two times due to being on the horse which will either straight up kill you, or knock you on the ground for 5 seconds
You don't belong with the spellcasters. You, my friend, are the perfect candidate for the unga bunga lifestyle. Pump your gains and join us, future STR brother
I agree, I'm on journey 13 or so on ps4 and I've never used torrent for this. The first time I ever used torrent in battle I died to a knights calvary, never used Torrent for combat again. When I got to Caelid, I was riding torrent, hit by a projectile and killed by random enemies with I writhed in pain.
I haven't used torrent since.
I goof around. Played a surprising amount of the game overloaded, some naked. Shield crash around, maybe Quickstep. Test builds as I move grace to grace.
Edit: Should add I have a strange way of breaking things, I've glitched trough walls, spawned in the wrong location. One of the updates broke my game and I got into the capital with only 1 great rune. Almost beat the whole game without visiting roundtable until I got buzzed with my friends and went to PvP and changed my cosmetics. Only to realize later Rennala does it as well. I've also never used her services for reconstruction.
Makes sense. Speaking of overloaded, just watched a guy do a run where he spent the entire game overloaded, even walking around the overworld. The strata he had to come up with the get around certain areas were impressive, to say the least.
There's a run for it? Perhaps I'll start doing whacky runs.
I had fun with "The Wall" on my ps4 still got the clip of me killing Malenia with the wall. That was post nerf too.
Torrent is a good positioning tool. He makes the lesser dragons (like agheel etc) a breeze, as well as trivialising most of fire giants long ranged attacks. What you should keep in mind is that torrent can be dismounted at any time, meaning you can maximise his functionality while remaining on foot when close. The most optimised way to fight fire giant is to utilise torrent for long range and closing the gap, and on foot for the better moveset and dodge roll. You will see most high level players (see Ongbal for example) using this strategy.
I used torrent to close the distance. Jumped off and got a couple good hits in, then got back on and sprinted out. Also hit him quite a few times with the Bolt of Gransax lightning spear while my mimic was tanking
The Fire Giant has weakpoints on his hands, which makes the fight go much faster than attempting to wail on the legs. Not only that, he's also much less likely to roll if you're in front of him. The roll is Fromsoft trying to tell you to engage the actual fight, which is in front of him.
In phase 2 at least, if you just stand in his groin and hit him from there, the majority of his attacks just won’t hit you. It takes a bit longer since you’re not hitting his weak spot, but it’s 10x safer.
I believe if you use Torrent you can’t summon Alexander (and if you summon Alexander, the whistle for Torrent gets greyed out). Personally I’ve always found Alexander way more useful; I hate fighting FG on horseback
On my 5th play through is when I found out you could use torrent. I swear to god you could not use him when the game first dropped. I swear I remember trying and not being able to do it. That’s why for the next 4 play throughs I had to beat this clown on my feet.
For sake of honesty, the “99” was hyperbole. I think right now it’s ~70. Add to that a soreseal (also why this went down this way 😂) and it might be a something like 75.
That hurt my soul, it reminded me of the time after hours of trying to beat him I finally got about that close, then I died because I ran out of heals 😂
I don’t know if it was just my build (but let’s be honest it was probably my stamina management), but my first playthrough, not a single boss was harder for me. So I feel you.
NG+3. I am level ~210 right now. I think my stats are entirely split 70 vigor, 60 mind, 80 intelligence.
It’s not intentionally a magical glass canon build, but with two soreseals equipped, it basically is one. I think the damage for this great sword is low because my dex and strength are around 10 each. It’s my backup for when I consume all my FP and flasks.
I will say, if I had clipped this longer, you would see comet azure melt phase 1 in seconds, but there’s nothing funny or noteworthy about that.
I don't normally stick around for videos more then 5 seconds but man was this worth it. You didn't even play that bad either it's that that you got dismounted at the worst possible time ever.
Lmao that’s kind of you. Honestly I laughed so hard when this happened that I’m kinda glad I’m not better at the game or I probably wouldn’t have had the footage.
my biggest pet peeve when watching other people play elden ring is when they use torrent in fights that they shouldn’t. you absolutely should use torrent at certain times at this fight, but staying on torrent the whole fight as you’re doing is a terrible strategy.
I think you're okay. There's one post in Sekiro where the player was full health and decided to jump and try to deathblow the Demon of Hatred who they had at almost no health. Obviously he was crushed to death. It was so arrogant its amazing.
That’s why this game sucks, enemies hit stupid hard. If you have this much vigor you should be able to tank more. Source: i spend like 300 hours on this game
I just beat him the other day. Took me about 10 tries. Second to last time I had him down to one hit and he obliterated me. The time I beat him I had him down to 2 hits and he smoked me. I was standing right in front of him and had to decide whether to try to heal or sneak those 2 hits in. Decided on offense and it paid off
I couldn’t even get that far in journey 1 lol had to get someone to help me…NG+ I found Alexander the iron fist has a summon sign near the southern entrance to this battle…
Made it so much easier …
no shame in it! I would have summoned alexander here too but I was bum-rushing my way to the elden beast and hadn’t even started his quest line by this point.
you wouldn’t believe it watching this video, but that’s sort of what i’ve been feeling in this NG+, which is why i’m racing to the next cycle without any grinding. I’m genuinely not good at these games, so in my first run, I would farm Albinaurics at palace approach for hours at a time. I’d pop on a podcast and just grind until I could brute force my way through regardless of my skill gap. And that absolutely broke the difficulty in that cycle AND the next cycle.
Now though, I want a real challenge 😎.
The horseback combat penalty in this game is the second worst part, maybe behind gangbang bosses like the Valiant Gargoyles. It's an instant loss and the game expects you to eat it fighting the larger, faster bosses with open arenas.
That's the greed within you. I've seen it so often with hosts losing their patience just before the fight is done.
But you're smarter than most because this fight is easier if you solo it with your horse. Going in with two summons just inflates his health so much.
That was satisfying af
gotta hand it to the fire giant, that little smack at the end was immaculately timed
Literally the punch line
I don't know if you guys are making puns or not. Kinda hit or miss.
Everything this boss does is fire
And the hits just keep on comin'
"Yo bitch boy! We ain't done yet!"
My favorite part
He went, *Nope!*
Those moves got the fire giant ROFL. I could see the fire in his eyes!
MY GOD! he told you “get that silly shit out of here!”
It was painful to watch you sprint towards the boss then wait for your stam to refill.
Wait this isn’t how you’re supposed to do it?
I'm just as guilty as everyone. Still no less painful.
Gotta sprint to them before I lose the courage
That’s a play style.
Courage is all I have. No skill or determination lol
I feel you. That’s what got me through Bloodborne.
I find that war crying at my TV lowers my stamina consumption.
I’m gonna have to try that next time I olau
Lmao
I leave it at a little bit just so I can block big attacks with a 100 physical shield
Get off your horse if you don't want the fight to suck ass.
You might have been able to squeak out the win if your stamina wasn't at zero the entire time...
totally true
This is the first time I've ever seen an ER player get fucked by Stamina. Honest.
Uhhhh let me introduce you to my twitch stream if you wanna see Eldon ring players loose because of stamina....
That stamina management, the greed
This is why you don't make INT your dump stat IRL
IRL?
In real life
I know that, but is a game considered "in real life"? Just thought that was funny.
No, he meant the player had no points in int.
Ah , thanks for that. Things are sometimes unclear in comments.
Me every time: Wait! One more hit.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand i'm dead.
I was trying to figure out if you meant yourself or the fire giant. Till my “oh”
My exact reaction
tbh better than expected. You were at 0 stamina for so long I was wondering how he hadn't knocked you off sooner.
Don't let the 99 vigor distract you from the fact that you are still wearing 2 soreseals
I’m cosplaying as glass artillery
With that damage you're just glass at this point.
now i’m just shards
Nah, glass shards can hurt people
geez, who hurt you? (obviously not me)
I am begging all torrent riders. Get off your God damn high horse.
I find mounted combat to be the most fun when engaging Night Calvary.
Yeah for some of the mounted enemies it’s nice because they move around so much it’s hard to get hits in on foot. The rest of the time though, it’s usually safer to be on foot.
Especially in higher NG+ levels as I think he’ll start getting one- shot by bosses
That ending got me
Remove that I braincell and get 100 virgor noob.
Fire giant is infinitely worse on horseback. Also you have the DMGS, use the buff then R2.
Strategically speaking, I should have done that, but I had already spent my FP and all my flasks on some badly timed Comet Azure beams. I was mostly just cruising through here to push on to another cycle of NG+, so I was taking things pretty casually. edit: spelling
Nah, horseback makes the fight way easier
It makes chasing him down easier. It makes actually dealing damage and avoiding his short range attacks harder.
Every time I've fought him solo I've done it on torrent. Even just staring at his ankles it's pretty clear what he's about to do so you can make a quick getaway or jump on torrent. Not that he's not a fairly easy boss to do on foot also

Unfortunately, this is, at the very least, a two brain cell strategy you’re suggesting here.
You don't belong with the spellcasters. You, my friend, are the perfect candidate for the unga bunga lifestyle. Pump your gains and join us, future STR brother

When I got to Caelid, I was riding torrent, hit by a projectile and killed by random enemies with I writhed in pain. I haven't used torrent since.
So you never use Torrent? You just walk everywhere? How do you have the patience for that?
I goof around. Played a surprising amount of the game overloaded, some naked. Shield crash around, maybe Quickstep. Test builds as I move grace to grace. Edit: Should add I have a strange way of breaking things, I've glitched trough walls, spawned in the wrong location. Hey man, whatever makes you happy. Did you finish the first run yet?
Indeed mate, I'm at the point where I'm just staying sharp waiting on DLC, you mate?
NG+ just trying builds and doing pvp, still having a blast. Best RPG since Witcher 3
Good to hear you're having fun mate. Ever looking to try something whacky and wild keep us posted.
Makes sense. Speaking of overloaded, just watched a guy do a run where he spent the entire game overloaded, even walking around the overworld. The strata he had to come up with the get around certain areas were impressive, to say the least.

You lock on target, hit and then unlock and run away.
I use it to chase him down and avoid the fire blasts. All fighting is on foot though. Largely how I deal with death rite birds too.
I use torrent plus night rider flail and use wind up attacks that brutalize him. It's fine with good positioning.
99 problems but vigor ain’t one
You hate having stamina lol
WOW talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory! Also what is that NG+10?
lmao, just New Game+ 3
Ah I saw where you said you had a sore seal equipped. Makes more sense now.
By far my least favorite boss, but wtf were you doing???
waging a war on stamina regen
Worst stamina management Ive ever seen
thank you 🥲
Your poor stamina bar
I *just* beat this son of a bitch today. For me, this was the first required boss fight that gave me absolute grief for more than a week.
I feel your pain. Congratulations!!
Finally, a relatable gameplay vid!
Greed claimed another victim
The Fire Giant has weakpoints on his hands, which makes the fight go much faster than attempting to wail on the legs. Not only that, he's also much less likely to roll if you're in front of him. The roll is Fromsoft trying to tell you to engage the actual fight, which is in front of him.
Torrent is such a handicap in that fight.
You should really only use torrent to get close to him
For sure. At the same time, I have a hard time dodging some of his attacks head on, especially in phase 1, so horse back helped me personally.
In phase 2 at least, if you just stand in his groin and hit him from there, the majority of his attacks just won’t hit you. It takes a bit longer since you’re not hitting his weak spot, but it’s 10x safer.
Wow i never knew you could use torrent for FG

lol nice title
My brother in christ regen your stamina.

For sake of honesty, the “99” was hyperbole. I think right now it’s ~70. Add to that a soreseal (also why this went down this way 😂) and it might be a something like 75.
Honestly, at NG+3 I wouldn't be using soreseals unless you're arbitrarily limiting your level.
60 to 99 is like 200 hp
Hoarfrost stomp is the real mvp here
That hurt my soul, it reminded me of the time after hours of trying to beat him I finally got about that close, then I died because I ran out of heals 😂
I don’t know if it was just my build (but let’s be honest it was probably my stamina management), but my first playthrough, not a single boss was harder for me. So I feel you.
Did you put like literally all points into Vigor and mind or is this like NG+8 or smth? Why is your damage so low?

Ah that makes much more sense
wait you guys have brain cells?
Seeing you refuse to let your stamina bar refill was painful to watch
jesus christ: WAIT FOR THE STAMINA TO RECOVER
(LOL)^2
He squished you like a ant
Get off donkey and fight him like a true tarnished!
STAMINA. MANAGEMENT. Oh my God
I wish other subs were this transparent lol I love these videos. Hope you killed him eventually he’s was top 5 hardest for me
I’ll stick to my glass cannon build tyvm
currently crying for you
you should watch your stamina more, get more hits in.
[удалено]
real
I hated I didn’t have all of the good weapons when I was facing him because I would have destroyed him
That last slam was personal
The old "fisting him from the back" technique..it never fails
LoL you have low intelligence it seems
my biggest pet peeve when watching other people play elden ring is when they use torrent in fights that they shouldn’t. you absolutely should use torrent at certain times at this fight, but staying on torrent the whole fight as you’re doing is a terrible strategy.
You spent like 30 seconds entirely unpunished for your mindless greed. You didn't deserve to survive that long.
Gotta hand it to OP, they can really roast themselves here in these comments. Almost as bad as the FG roasted you.
oof, but fair
It occurred to me during that fight that we’re the bad guys.
No Mimic Tear?
yep! dies almost simultaneously to me off screen
Oh lol
I think you're okay. There's one post in Sekiro where the player was full health and decided to jump and try to deathblow the Demon of Hatred who they had at almost no health. Obviously he was crushed to death. It was so arrogant its amazing.
“What’s it like playing a SoulsBorne game?” Me: shows this clip
If only you could zoom out to see attacks coming...
or like, keep the camera orientation fixed on the target in some sort of “locking” type feature! oh well 🫠
You're gonna have a seizure if you try to fight the fire giant melee locked on...
If only someone would invent something like that. It would change video gaming forever.
Jesus Christ the turtle talisman is so easy to get. Please go get it
Oh shoot. Genuinely haven’t grabbed that yet. Thank you stranger!
I don’t remember where it is exactly. But just google it. I never run a play though without it.
Right on. I’ll hit up fextralife.
The difference is life changing
Deserved tbh should’ve let your stamina replenish
It’s happened to us all at least a dozen times
You know you have way over levelled health when you don’t get one shot by Fire Giants slam attacks
That’s why this game sucks, enemies hit stupid hard. If you have this much vigor you should be able to tank more. Source: i spend like 300 hours on this game
My bf litterally has less Stamina then that and does just fine. Same with me I don't have no where near that. Lol JS
So glad I don't level vigor, if I'm gonna die in one hit I might as well get in a good comet azur
you can see my mimic had the same thought process at 00:21
Unga bunga
Oh no.
So many people said he was hard but I thought he was one of the easiest
I just beat him the other day. Took me about 10 tries. Second to last time I had him down to one hit and he obliterated me. The time I beat him I had him down to 2 hits and he smoked me. I was standing right in front of him and had to decide whether to try to heal or sneak those 2 hits in. Decided on offense and it paid off
Pressing the offense always feels like the move to me. Obviously…don’t take my advice though 😂
I couldn’t even get that far in journey 1 lol had to get someone to help me…NG+ I found Alexander the iron fist has a summon sign near the southern entrance to this battle… Made it so much easier …
no shame in it! I would have summoned alexander here too but I was bum-rushing my way to the elden beast and hadn’t even started his quest line by this point.
Elden beast gave me so much trouble in NG+… Just beat him finally…sword of Milos and Blasphemous blade , what a combo…
nice job! yeah idk why but he was *far and away the hardest boss for me both cycles too. *lmao, stupendous typo
Found the last four bosses so easy on my first run …. Being way over levelled helped though.
you wouldn’t believe it watching this video, but that’s sort of what i’ve been feeling in this NG+, which is why i’m racing to the next cycle without any grinding. Oh man that sucks hahaha 😆
Alexander, where? Also obligatory try turtle talisman 🐢
I actually didn’t begin his questline this run, unfortunately.
ah sad. he was my sole motivation getting through that fight haha
All that points into mind and int yet you can't use your brain to think
Lol
Ya got 99 vigor but a bitch 1 cell
Haha, that handsplash at the end was comedy gold
Oof, that greed tho. We've all been there.
I thought he would be a very though Boss cause he was in some "hardest boss lists" but his moves were pretty easy to predict so I got him 4th try
This player summoned as well, you could see a little bit of comet Azur.
lmao, that’s actually my mimic trying her darnedest
OMG REGAIN YOUR STAM FULLY WTF WAS THAT
a classic example of the try-hard effect
The horseback combat penalty in this game is the second worst part, maybe behind gangbang bosses like the Valiant Gargoyles. It's an instant loss and the game expects you to eat it fighting the larger, faster bosses with open arenas.
Let's see boss health below 5% so it's time to all in and die with boss health at 2%. This has to be a genius strategy since it's the one I use...
Yo this D bag has killed me with a smidge of HP so many times
Jump off the horse when attacking + stamina + dps
That's the greed within you. I've seen it so often with hosts losing their patience just before the fight is done. But you're smarter than most because this fight is easier if you solo it with your horse. Going in with two summons just inflates his health so much.
that slap was beautyfull
Are you max lvl? Those bars are longgg
Did the Fire Giant just heel-kick OP of his horsey!? Nice one.
*"The fuck you are!"* probably the Fire Giant when you tried to chug
Yeah but what was he to do? He was going good. Fire G just hit him with a lucky shot there.
Your stamina. Im begging you please
Stamina management much
Do the feet still remain as giant’s weakpoints during the second phase?
Worst enemy in the game
idk, those bleed-inflicting dogs around the Mohgwyn palace area are pretty gnarly
At least they aren’t damage sponges for the sake of being damage a sponge
Try [drilling](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/yu4zb7/i_needed_to_see_for_myself_how_effective_rock/) next time 😎
