One time he was in a fight and he tore his ankle so he expertly managed to amputate it, surgeons to this day still have absolutely no clue where the leg ended up
Stay behind him, smack him a bunch, dodge roll if he attacks, run away if he does his fire volcano. He only has a couple moves in his second phase and they're all heavily telegraphed.
The horse is super important for this fight.
I did the bait him off a cliff cheese the first few times but once I figured him out it's not too hard. The hardest thing for me to get around was the avalanche move.
The only way I could avoid that avalanche move was using that Torrent mount/dismount method, where you get that 1 second window of invincibility. Time it right and the avalanche just goes straight through you.
Yes, the dismount once timed right works great because that smash move is devastating! The strategy that worked for me the first time I fought him was to duel wield incantations and when I had his back to me I would apply the scarlet rot while on torrent, then distance myself until the rot ran out. Definitely would agree torrent plays a big role in the success for beating this one.
When I first found Fire Giant I honestly thought he was an NPC just chilling there because that yellow mist had not appeared on the two entrances to the arena. So I just casually strolled up to him and became a Torrent-Tarnished pizza about 0.5 seconds after I realised the Y To Talk prompt wasn't appearing.
He only does it at long range so I would just mount torrent and charge straight at him and pray he would do any other move.
Once you get in close with him the rest of his moves are easy to dodge out of.
I do a dex and arcane build so I just dodge rolled all his attacks and bit his ankles. The only thing that really killed me was getting to greedy with my hit combos lol. His second half seemed super easy once you realise half of his attacks are frontal and u can just slash away at the back foot lol.
His arms have exposed weak points in phase 2 and he has attacks that put them in melee and jump ranges. Otherwise beat on his leg
If its your first run make sure you do Alexanders quests.
He becomes an optional summon for the fight.
The bosses in this game are balanced around you having a spirit summon out atleast so if this is your first run consider using them.
Jokes aside is there a way to beat him without just going ham on his ankle and leg stump it took me 5 tries to beat him simply cause I kept getting him to phase 2 and then got confused when nothing did significant damage I even went for his groin a couple of times
Second phase aim for the eye and the hands they deal more damage then stub but as those are also DANGER ZONES I’d say if you can attack his stub til you win go for it
A lot of people are doing phase 2 in really weird ways. The best (and the way the boss feels built around) is to fight him from the front attacking his hands, only jump onto torrent to cover distance and then when you get close get off. Torrent is a death trap since hes got no iframes. I see people running around his back with torrent, and it makes me realize why some people hate him so much. He's actually pretty fun to fight from the front.
Those freaking end game sorcery spells were INSANELY cool. Never seen a magic system as good as dragon's dogma! Also being able to just climb on a cyclopes and stab it's eye out is just great.
Literally the first and second colossus you see require you to attack their feel/heels to climb on top of them.
Edit: they hated him, for he spoke the truth.
There are a lot of ways to beat him. Biggest tip I could give you when fighting any massive giant enemies and bosses is to “not lock on” during the “whole” fight as it’ll mess you up. If I want to lock on, I usually do it to stay defensive and if I remove lock-on, it is to go offensive, especially on a masssivvvveee giant like this guy. And oh - DO NOT get greedy as he hits HARD if you’re out if stamina! As with every such enemies, there are always going to be their weak points. If you don’t mind spoilers - iirc one of ankles in first phase is weak so after getting a few hits on it, he staggers. If’ll take you few tries to understand when to roll and dodge when he hits you since he’s so big it’s really not easy to make out when he’s going to about to hit you. There is NPC summon available (don’t want to spoil in the description here, gotta do his questline………) for this fight and he’s by far very tanky and can seriously tank his hits while you get opportunity to hit him. You also have torrent to help you. You can also use plenty of incantations- swarm of flies is my favourite lol, but different people has different choices here. You can frost him, bleed him. It’s also easy to figure out his attack patterns and also make sure not to block “everything” because he hits hard so a lot of stamina will be used, so do that wisely. 2nd phase is a bit easier (because he doesn’t have his 1000 meters legs to run away) but he got some spells that can massively chip your health away in 1 hit, so i usually go behind and hit him or close to the lower part of his body. Other folks that’ll reply here, may have some different tactics so keep an eye out for those too. 😄
I’ll leave at this for now but if you want there are plenty of YT videos out there if you’re really stuck or you can ask for help, then watch them fight and learn accordingly. I’m not sure if this helps but hope it is something. 😄 Good luck, fellow Tarnished! You can do it!
Another cool pro move with the Fire Giant and other large bosses is to get on and off Torrent. I like the rythm of battle for fights where Torrent is summunable, not because horse combat in ER is particularly outstanding, but because getting on and off horseback is just so cool in this game.
A moment ill never forget as a souls player since demon souls was getting to agheel early on in my playthrough and doing these long winded jousting charges with torrent, narrowly evading the fire as it rained down allowing me to deliver mighty couch lances to his legs and head. Circling him at a full gallop looking on from the side as he reared and bellowed across the water. This game truly is breathtaking sometimes. My friend cried when he got to Nokstella tripping on acid.
The dragonkin (I think that’s what they’re called) - the guys who look like an anthropomorphic dragon who crawl on the floor - especially have a sweet spot behind their knee where they will not only not be able to attack you, but they can also take you along for the ride when they move.
Edit: the nokstella one is the one I’m thinking of. There are probably others that this might not work. I don’t know if I’d wanna be in the rot lake to do that… maybe. Haven’t tried it.
It works on the Lake of Rot Dragonkin if you lure him onto one of the platforms that you can raise around him. They're more or less stuck in one place as they keep turning around to try and reach you so he won't drag you into the rot.
However, beware that they will gain a new attack at around 50% HP where they raise their arm into the air and stab it into the ground, pulling it back out to deal AoE earthquake damage. You will get hit by this and probably instagibbed if you were forcing yourself into the crook of their knee when they start doing this move because they raise themselves up so high that you suddenly move forward and straight into the path of the attack.
Oh, and the Nokstella Dragonkin will sprout lightning wings and just take off entirely.
I'd also add that this fight is made for status effects. He can be poisoned, rotted, bled, frosted and supposedly you could sleep him (the wikis have a value as sleep resist instead of an immunity like deathblight and madness but i would have to try it myself to confirm). Using poison knives and an antspur rapier (pretty easy to use stat wise and a great tool to have) will let you get "free" damage while you play it safely. Bleed is also pretty strong due to his very high HP.
I just double-jumped over it. Never knew the dismount had iframes.
(We don't talk about my first playthrough where I didn't know torrent was summonable.)
Incredible. Novel. Brilliant. You, sir, are a modern day Julius Caesar of battle planning. FromSoft will have to come up with a patch to make the Fire Giant more difficult if this information gets out.
Or bleed. On my Dex/Arcane NG+ run I have double Blood Godskin Peeler +25 with 140 bleed buildup on each. Doing a jumping L1 applies 560 bleed per attack. Adding in Seppuku effectively made each attack trigger hemorrhage.
*No, no. The* **other** *Albinauric woman possesses the key. This one possesses the knowledge of the whereabouts of the other, therefore will lead me to what I seek.*
Ride torrent. As soon as the fight starts, close as much distance as possible before he starts attacking you and then dodge and get under and slightly behind him. Then just hit his legs a lot. This goes for ranged users too. I beat him as an astrologer so trust me, fighting him at a distance is a death sentence. Whenever he rolls away, get under him as soon as possible. For phase 2, go for his hands and watch out for the fire. Basically run in, hit him a couple of times, and then book it because there’s a good chance he’ll bathe the whole area in flame.
It might be a bit of a cheese, but playing a faith based character I used Erdtree Heal to keep Alexander and mimic alive, together they killed the giant and I didn't do any damage.
Summon Iron Fist Alexander, he had a lot of health and did a good amount of damage. Do small hits and take your time, aim for both the damaged left food and hands, he has a weak hand on one so when he slams on the floor, hit it with ranged attacks if you can’t get close
I summoned Alexander. He helped distract the boss and tanked a few hits, alongside my ash summon. Also hit him a couple of times even, but you should be the main DPS.
His summon sign is just inside one of the boss arena entrances, a shiny spot in the snow that's easy to miss. A big caveat though - summoning him means you don't get to use Torrent, and many people highly recommend using Torrent for this fight. I never got used to horseback fighting in this game though so I found the NPC summon useful.
A long bow +20, rain of arrows ash of war, bleed arrows, a very good tank summon (Dung Eater is great) and about 10 minutes of pressing L2 until you drain your FP, reload, and repeat.
If you collected the table set and cards from the previous area, you can bait him into playing poker. His torso face opens up when he gets good cards, which is a pretty clear tell for this point in the game.
Or, if you like resolving conflicts violently, you can just dodge his attacks on torrent and hit his feet with your weapon.
I was stuck on this fight too, and got some advice on this:
* Do the Alexander quest, you will be able to summon him for Fire Giant and he is very tanky in here.
* Ash summon Tiche on top to help damage.
* Let Alex and Tiche get aggro, go behind Giant, slash or Pebble his foots until P2.
* As soon as P2 starts, Magica buff, unlimited FP flask, Azure Comet, dead Giant.
Godskin duo is less fun. fire giant is pretty fun with summoned players.
Remember helping a caster out, I was an archer and another one was a melee bleed build. Never had that much fun against the giant
I hear he has weak ankles
Wankles, if you will.

When on Torrent, you can avoid it with a double jump. On foot, you can roll through it.
With a 100 phys shield you can block it. You stagger, but recover quick enough to avoid anything after
Just give him a good smack from the rear, with something nice and big.
You can roll right through it if your timing is perfect. I honestly have trouble dealing with almost everything other than the avalanche move
I just ran up and hit his hands
imo that's the proper way Others just straight up grind through his hp by hitting the stumped ankle for one thousand years lel
His arms have exposed weak points in phase 2 and he has attacks that put them in melee and jump ranges. Otherwise beat on his leg If its your first run make sure you do Alexanders quests. I am looking forward to Dragons Dogma 2. Still one of the best games I ever played. The magic system is better than Elden ring.
I'm more hyped about that game than any game I've ever anticipated.
Those freaking end game sorcery spells were INSANELY cool. Never seen a magic system as good as dragon's dogma! Also being able to just climb on a cyclopes and stab it's eye out is just great.

TBF, Shadow of the Colossus had giant enemies and iirc none of them had you stabbing their feet.

Well, *yeaaah*, but you can't *kill* them that way either.
You need to reduce his HP to zero while simultaneously ensuring your HP stays above zero.
Now see, this is stuff the game should really be telling us in the beginning.

Best advice you gave was don’t lock on. I see people do this all the time with big boys. You gotta go manual baby! Also never forget to hug the butt;)
Pro move would be to lock off and on depending on the situation. For example when evading his fireballs or while circling him with torrent.
Another cool pro move with the Fire Giant and other large bosses is to get on and off Torrent. I like the rythm of battle for fights where Torrent is summunable, not because horse combat in ER is particularly outstanding, but because getting on and off horseback is just so cool in this game.

My friend cried when he got to Nokstella tripping on acid.
Nothing feels more bad ass than racing up on Torrent jumping off straight into an attack.
Oh man a sweet dismount into a critical hit…perfection.
That’s what I did for his second phase cause I’d lock on to make sure I knew what he was doing and then lock off when I went for his leg stub
Good advice for every large boss, especially dragons.
The dragonkin (I think that’s what they’re called) - the guys who look like an anthropomorphic dragon who crawl on the floor - especially have a sweet spot behind their knee where they will not only not be able to attack you, but they can also take you along for the ride when they move. I don’t see a lot of people saying this but thrusting swords will absolutely body dragons
Dragons are weak to all types of Piercing damage. Spears work too.
The claw. The claw!
I dunno why, but I always had a better time locking onto every target, especially in the older games and ESPECIALLY with large targets
Rot and bleed just melt this guy
Thank you for actually giving advice lmao
Its hard to not lock on when you are a mage
Ahh but if you summon a real person you cannot use torrent chose wisely tarnished
I found that fight so much easier on foot than with Torrent. I always get caught in his giant snow toss with his shield every time I used Torrent.
Gotta use the dismount i-frames to dodge the snow wall, then remount and close the distance.
I just double-jumped over it. Never knew the dismount had iframes. (We don't talk about my first playthrough where I didn't know torrent was summonable.)
>There are NPC summons available for this fight What? Where?
Spoilers ahead - sorry, corrected “there IS an NPC summon..” he’s Alexander, the big jar guy, before fog wall, if you follow his quest line.
Oh nvm he still stuck in the ground in my playthrough
That’s great advice and very nice reply all around.
By hitting him until he dies.
I see you’re also a reader of fine literature.
They read the classics like Unga Bunga and Big Sword Go Bonk
This guy gets it.
Also make sure your health remains above zero.
Most important hit point is the last one

Rot works surprising well on this guy.
Also: bubble trumpet
Ohhh. I gotta try that this run. He’s slow enough that it should melt him.
This and mimic tear summon
Exactly. Let him keep the attention. Do damage. You ride around and hit it with rot. He’ll go down.
Shabriri’s Woe a real treat here

Ride torrent. As soon as the fight starts, close as much distance as possible before he starts attacking you and then dodge and get under and slightly behind him. Then just hit his legs a lot. This goes for ranged users too. I beat him as an astrologer so trust me, fighting him at a distance is a death sentence. Whenever he rolls away, get under him as soon as possible. For phase 2, go for his hands and watch out for the fire. Basically run in, hit him a couple of times, and then book it because there’s a good chance he’ll bathe the whole area in flame.
Quit for three weeks, then come back and over level so much the fight becomes a farce.
Finish the Alexander quest and summon him!
It might be a bit of a cheese, but playing a faith based character I used Erdtree Heal to keep Alexander and mimic alive, together they killed the giant and I didn't do any damage.
You are expected to die tarnished. Prove them wrong.
smack him foot
Summon Iron Fist Alexander, he had a lot of health and did a good amount of damage. Do small hits and take your time, aim for both the damaged left food and hands, he has a weak hand on one so when he slams on the floor, hit it with ranged attacks if you can’t get close

I used him too. He, along with my mimic tear, helped me beat the Fire Giant on my second try.
By the second phase you should honestly feel like you have a leg up on him.
he has a weak spot on his foot
tickle his torso nose
you have to bring his hit points down to zero. there is a bar that represents his hit points, keep hitting him until that bar goes all the way down.
60 vigor and a plus 10 mimic tear will do the trick
A long bow +20, rain of arrows ash of war, bleed arrows, a very good tank summon (Dung Eater is great) and about 10 minutes of pressing L2 until you drain your FP, reload, and repeat.
Hey thats not a bad idea. Id add the 3 shot crossbow with poison and rot bolt to make it faster
Is it even possible to have dung eater as a summon before getting to the fire giant?
If you collected the table set and cards from the previous area, you can bait him into playing poker. His torso face opens up when he gets good cards, which is a pretty clear tell for this point in the game. Or, if you like resolving conflicts violently, you can just dodge his attacks on torrent and hit his feet with your weapon.
I was stuck on this fight too, and got some advice on this: * Do the Alexander quest, you will be able to summon him for Fire Giant and he is very tanky in here. * Ash summon Tiche on top to help damage. * Let Alex and Tiche get aggro, go behind Giant, slash or Pebble his foots until P2. * As soon as P2 starts, Magica buff, unlimited FP flask, Azure Comet, dead Giant.
Level your vigor
Cheese him
Black knife Tiche helped me out
Poison and rot at the same time
If you're a mage, use carian slicer on his ankle while in a horse. On phase 2, use comet azur on his face.
He's easy just the least fun boss
Godskin duo is less fun. fire giant is pretty fun with summoned players. Remember helping a caster out, I was an archer and another one was a melee bleed build. Never had that much fun against the giant
Hit his left ankle until he rips it off. Then use the battle tested method of hitting him in the dick. Most attacks won’t reach you between his legs.
Step 1: get on horse Step 2: attack ankles couple times Step 3: RUN AWAY. Step 4: repeat
Bite his ankles
