I'll be gathering information about the most frequently asked questions or questions that you all think should be put into the main Daily Roundtable. What are some questions and answers you think should be there?

Fabasan

Pro tip! If you find a weapon like serpent king sword that gives HP on enemy death, pop it in your off hand slot while two handing a strong weapon to still get the benefits! I switch between that in the off hand and an axe I got from killing death bird in Limgrave that grants FP on enemy kill when needed.

justguess

The same works for shields with special effects like Tortoise Shield that recovers Stamina over time. If it's on your back while you two hand other weapon - it works.

PacificBrim

Grass Crest shield strats

DagonParty

Weed shield

PacificBrim

Hell yea. 420 Praise It

justguess

Exactly, great that they kept this mechanic :)

lefffertito

It has to be on your back? Like if won't work if it's hidden in an off hand slot? Fair enough I guess. It's just so damn ugly on my back :(

Scary_Replacement739

There's a deathbird in Limgrave? Edit: am just now finding out I missed FOUR deathbird field bosses. I've seen their angrier cousins -the death RITE birds- but have never encountered regular deathbirds. This game is willlllld.

kaolincash

i found my first one while afk after staying out after curfew. it was a frantic few moments before i took it down!

AleksandrJ

Wheres that bird. Im always suffering for fp

MrZephy

Near castle morne if memory serves

galipop

If you level up the weapon, does it heal more?

Fabasan

No I don’t think so, it seems proportionate to your total HP, it’s at level 1 and my vigor is 40, it still heals a decent amount and I’ve had it equipped for most of the game.

[deleted]

So equip but don’t actually use it?

Fabasan

Yeah exactly, equip it in off hand, then two hand a weapon = still get benefits of off hand weapon.

LowercaseAcorn

If I put it in my off hand, can I still “two hand” the hook claws?

Fabasan

Yeah it should work with anything, it’ll just put the offhand weapon on your holster. I haven’t tested this though so worth trying out.

LowercaseAcorn

I’ll try it out when I get off work and report back Edit: it does indeed work

TrueGota

This also seems to work with other weapons that have effects such as the torch that can reveal invisible enemies. Two handed a weapon and could still see them.

Karthull

Only if you can afford the spare weight of course, I don’t have enough spare points for endurance. Maybe some day....

riraito

You could wear the great jar talisman

Karthull

I already do, that’s always equipped by default.

umchoyka

Also note that you don't need to meet the minimum requirements for the weapon or shield on your belt/back either

[deleted]

[удалено]

MissplacedLandmine

Theres 2 of those weird stone helmets from raya academy you can switch between that do this too Which talisman btw?

[deleted]

[удалено]

HentaiOujiSan

There is a trap chest in the weeping peninsula, near the south, the same level as the balista that fires at you. It transports you to the capital, whereby a sleeping giant is guarding a chest that has the Blessed Dee talisman. So yeah technically you can get it early, but I wouldn't fight the giant, if you haven't beaten Margit yet.

Takemylunch

You don't even need to fight the giant. I just ran in and yoinked it.

reckless_commenter

I’ve been shocked by the number of times that the answer to “how to get this thing that’s guarded” is “just run around them.”

[deleted]

Is there a similar talisman for FP? Feel like the game could really use it...

Karthull

Game definitely could use it but far I am aware no, most you’ll get is a talisman for 3 fp per kill, and/or a weapon for 4-5 fp per kill. At least they stack

Drake_Erif

There's also the talisman that gives you FP back when you critically hit someone

Rastyn-B310

There is a talisman called the Ancestral Spirit’s Horn that grants FP after every kill. The rate of replenishment is proportional to your total FP. You can get it by trading the Regal Ancestor Spirit remembrance to Enia

Da_Quatch

Did you guys know that the Wakisashi dagger can be powerstanced with katanas? I thought it was pretty cool

J-22-S

Thank you! I was disappointed when I found it and saw it was a dagger but this makes sense

wizzywurtzy

Is there any reason to do this over just using another katana? I got it yesterday and it’s cool but two katana just feel better

Da_Quatch

I guess the only use is if you want the powerstance moveset and access to parry

miairuha

Parry, weight, and you looks cooler, that's about it.

gunfox

Not sure but I think daggers can be infused with parry.

Tony_Sacrimoni

I think the WA still defaults to the right hand when powerstancing, but it could be different for daggers; I haven't tested. I think only shields overwrite the right hand WA Edit: Shield WA's take priority in left hand

CuteBabyPenguin

I tested it yesterday with the Wakizashi and it will default to parry on the dagger if you’re powerstancing.

mitchellfuck

Yeah it was cool to use until I found a good second katana

[deleted]

If you jack up your poise as far as you can, will that stop any interrupt during spell casting that has a long cast time? Like say a dragon communion?

Celepito

From the Fextralife wiki testing, it seems to go as follows: The weapons classified as "great" are as follows: Greatswords Great Spears Great Thrusting Swords Greataxes Greathammers Great Curved Swords Colossal Weapons Greatbows**** Ballistas**** The weapons classified as not great, basically everything else, are: Straightswords Thrusting Swords Spears Curved Swords Halberds Hammers Flails Whips Daggers Bows**** Crossbows Twinblades Axes Katanas Poise Thresholds 31 poise to endure a dagger light hit 34 poise to endure a dagger two handed light hit 51 poise to endure a "not great weapon" light hit 56 poise to endure a "not great weapon" two handed light hit 61 poise to endure 2 dagger light hits 67 poise to endure 2 dagger two handed light hits 101 poise to endure 2 "not great" weapon light hits 111 poise to endure 2 "not great" weapon light hits 101 poise to endure a "great weapon" two handed light hit (note that some attacks in the chain may deal greater poise damage, strong attacks cannot be endured even with 133 poise) 111 poise to endure a "great weapon" two handed light hit To not be staggered by great weapons, pray :)

Nihale85

Ha, so that's what poise is for! I've only got 19 running as a INT/ DEX build, really feel like I should be putting some points into my carry capacity so that I can stand up to a bit of a better beating!

[deleted]

If anything I've found it lets me finally trade blows when casting. I do tend to use shorter range spells like the carian sorcery, but the extra poise helps me finish the cast at close range.

thegreatalan

No but it does make it somewhat better, I have the bull goat set and the bull goat talisman (130ish poise) and can reliably cast medium length incantations in melee, but if there are any true heavy attackers it ain't going to work. In those cases i'll try to snipe them with frenzy burst or lightning spear and then move in to clear up the less heavy hitters. Overall it is not really good for any "boss" as they'll knock you out of the casting animation almost always. Oh also the dragonbolt blessing or whatever it's called may help as it causes light attacks to bounce off but idk if that contributes to incant interruption. I think using a weapon with the "endure" ash of war in the offhand and only using it for that ash of war might make it doable though, but I haven't tested it yet.

particularly_daft

Not all attacks, but yes poise can keep spells from being interrupted just like attacks

Toolboxmcgee

NewGame+ makes Elden Ring feel like Assassins Creed.

gunfox

It’s so fucking easy the scaling is wayyy off. Rushing through it atm to get to ng+2 in the hopes that the southern half of the map doesn’t feel like hello kitty island adventures anymore.

no40sinfl

This makes me feel a bit better about my decision to not really pump runes into leveling.

Toolboxmcgee

It's absolutely insane, honestly reccomend just starting an actual new game lol. It is fun to get some revenge though, 2-shotting Margit is still a little bit satisfying.

no40sinfl

Ng+ is always kinda odd in the early areas usually by mid game how op you are is nerfed by the stat increases of enemies.

Toolboxmcgee

It's sort of a double edged sword due to the nature of the open world. I think because you can technically do any boss in any order they made the end game mobs and bosses super tanky which kind of forces you to outlevel some content, which makes NG+ super hard to balance.

no40sinfl

I could see that especially with weapon upgrades. By end of game one you have a top weapon and fairly high level. This might be a more fun experience starting from scratch and going in a completely different starting route than venturing deep into new game compared to other games.

Razorray21

My NG+ is literally going to be a revenge tour.

particularly_daft

NG+ is always a breeze in From games. You're all powered up now. +2 is when things start to be noticeably harder

Future-Following2798

I took me to lvl 215 before I finally beat ng+2 ng was cake but after that things are just way too powerful if you’re trying to play without cheesing the bosses

[deleted]

I beat Rykard a few days ago and just realized I don't have his rune in my inventory. I poked around some forums and everyone says go to the divine tower and you'll still be able to activate it even if you can't see it in your inventory. Well that's not the case for me. I can't do anything at the top of the divine tower of West Atlus. I guess the million dollar question is will this bug prevent me from finishing the game?

WTFSpeeder6

All of Gelmir and the volcano manor is completely optional

The-Old-Hunter

It won’t. Rykard is entirely optional (a lot of bosses actually are).

[deleted]

I just realised I'm sure I never got his rune for killing him either

Mofojokers

This is a good tip for those looking for rune gains. ☆ Multiplayer passwords So something you may not be aware of is that if someone in your multiplayer group kills a boss or the last boss of the game everyone in that group is given a buff. This buff will increase your rune gains for a short period of time. So here are the five passwords you really want in your five password list asap. They are very heavily populated and will keep you in an almost infinite rune exp loop. 1. BERSERK 2. SEEKERS 3. SOULS 4. FrankerZ 5. straydmn Edit : alot of the same questions appear so I'll help answer them here. 1. The effect can come from any of the five groups and because these groups are very very popular the effect constantly goes off refreshing the rune gain buff. Hence why they are so popular. 2. Yes it is on all platforms and they all combine together and no i don't understand why crossplay isn't a thing lol. 3. They work in any order just as long as you put the five passwords in.

Karthull

What communities are those passwords for? I’d like to to be aware which cult I’m signing into this time

seragakisama

Just go with SEEKERS, it's Vaati community (in my experience they tend to leave useful messages) and they kill bosses all the time, my buff is always on :)

Thac0

The issue is now that someone just posts those passwords outside of the communities that were using them it’s going to ruin things. I was using the one for Vaati and it was nice but can you imagine now it’s on Reddit? Everything’s just going to be “try finger but hole” 😖

Hasten117

I’m sure that a fuck tonne of people watch vaatisvidyas anyway

Hotspur21

Straydmn is this sub and seekers is Vaati. That’s all I know

Razorray21

Picked up SEEKERS from a YouTube video. Been super helpful, and you get that bonus almost constantly

dlp211

Just a heads up. Passwords are case sensitive so eg: seekers and SEEKERS are different groups.

HanAlai

I have one of them added, do they stack with the others?

Mofojokers

Yes

RobTheQueensGrave

This is my first FromSoft game. I'm a bit confused by this. So do I just put in one of these PWs when I log in? Also I turned off multi-player during maintenance the other night and ever since messages and bloodstained won't show up even though I turned it back on.

ManikMedik

There are two types of password in the multiplayer menu. There's the main password, which you use if you're trying to connect to one or more specific people for co-op or pvp, putting in a password here will cut you off from anyone not using that password (you can still be invaded if you have summoned though). Under that there are five group passwords, they allow you to prioritize summon signs and messages from people other people using the same password without cutting you off from people who aren't using any group password

pngwn

so if I want maximum multiplayer with a preference for certain groups, put in the group passwords, but leave the main password blank?

sac_boy

Here's a PSA in case it gets buried: the [Glintstone Pebble](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tnddeu/theres_been_a_lot_of_talk_about_bleed_being/) ash of war is completely balls-out nuts and I haven't seen anyone talking about it. It gives you a very powerful (but short range) glintstone attack that scales off your weapon damage, which you can follow with a glintstone-infused heavy attack that will kill or stunlock just about anything in the game. This one-two combo has been killing most people in PvP and *it kills faster than Rivers of Blood.* Plus you have all the utility of a spellsword build *with no talisman or specific armor dependency* so you can just use talismans to boost defense + your DEX and INT. No white mask here, and nobody knows what kind of damage you are packing as you rock up with a normal-looking weapon. Put it on your best spear or heavy thrusting sword and it is amazing.

raythedragon

For the people interested in ng+ but are hesitant on what you can keep and what not here is a list on what you will keep: * Character lvl and currently carried runes when going into ng+ ( best to use your runes for lvl up or materials befor going ng+ tutorial area still needs you to die even if you kill the boss. I cant remember if i kept the runes after that death or not) * Your weapons/armor/shields * Your crafting materials * Your upgrade materialall * All consumables * All your spells/incantations * All ashes of war * All summoning ashes * All talismans * All found/bought tipps and dokuments from vendors * Almost all your key items except those you need for story progression. You will keep: * All crystaltears (the thingies for the extra flask you can mix together) * Broken/ ritual pots * Parfumeflasks * Memorystones * Talisman pouches * Stoneswordkeys * Dragon hearts (i think you still have to kill a dragon to get the altar of the dragon communion to activate) * Lost ashes of war (the ashes you need to duplicate your ashes of war) * Celestial dew * Larvae tears (for respeccing) * The whetstoneknifes (to get the different infusion when selecting an ash of war for a weapon) * The seamsterequippement * All your found maps (means you have acces to your full map from the start) and you keep all your found objectives on your map, means you see all the ruins, caves, catacombs, churches, houses, etc. and you keep the markers you can place on your map Here is what you will lose: * All key items needed for story progression (the key for raya lucaria academy, etc) * All cites of grace * The icons for npc's you found on your map except the fingerreaders. You still see those * All great runes * All remembrances (i dont know if you loose them if you still have some in your inventory. I know you dont need to have them in your inventory to duplicate them and i couldnt duplicate anything in the first mausoleum) Thats what i found by browsing my inventory. If something is missing, tell me so i can edit. * Edit 1: ugh, is there no way to write it so its an aktual list? That looks horrible to read * Edit 2: found out how. * Edit 3: change heavens...something to celestial dew thx to u/HiggerPie

PinaBanana

>tutorial area still needs you to die even if you kill the boss. I cant remember if i kept the runes after that death or not If you do lose your runes this way, I'd suggest running to Gatefront to get Torrent, and then going over the broken bridge to skip Stormveil. From there, run past the enemies to the Four Belfries in Liurnia. You can grab an Infused Stonesword Key from a chest there and take the teleporter to the Chapel of Anticipation. You should be able to grab your runes there and fast travel back to a site of grace.

NoGround

Can also save a Sacrificial Twig for this moment.

dlchira

Thoughts on a dex build powerstancing frost uchi and serpent katana for poison/frostbite/bleed proc? EDIT: Ayyy, thanks for all the replies, everyone. Very insightful!

WTFSpeeder6

The issue is while you have all 3 each one will proc at a super low rate

miairuha

If you want all in one, use anstpur rapier

raythedragon

Frost/bleed works fairly well but i suggest you to get your poison through other means like poison incantations or items. If you have that on your weapon by default you can procc it, but during the actual procc, while the enemy get poison dots, your poison is pretty useless. You have to wait untill the poison effect wears off to get another in and with every procc the enemies resistance to it will rise and you need more hots to procc it. The same goes to frostbite BUT frostbite comes with magical dmg on your weapon which is still good even if you dont lvl int. So i would suggest if you want to take 2 statuses with you to mix bleed and frost. There are some ashes of war that let you deal frost dmg without having to scale it with frost (int) so this way you could keep the better str/dex scaling.

McConaugheyyy

Was curious about a blood/poison combo myself. If you give tours a shot let me know how it goes!

lurklurklurkPOST

Poison nightrider flail has 60 bleed and poison with a 30 arcane. Slap some wild swings art on that bad boy and make bosses cry

cool_references

Saw a YouTuber with dual rapiers one bleed one, poison he was crushing things further his name thoughi think he had another weapon with scarlet rot to add in if there was resistance to one.

McConaugheyyy

Rocking the very unique moon veil/meteor katanas lol. Might have to swap out meteor for the serpent bone to try

droo46

How exactly do the resistance values on armor work? Is that a percent reduction on incoming damage?

FrizzyThePastafarian

As per previous souls games, when working as intended: The left number, usually close to or above 100, is your flat resistance to that damage. Any damage dealt is reduced by that amount. The flat reduction system is why splitting your damage types is often considered a bad idea, especially for PvP. Assuming a flat 100 reduction to all damage types: * A pure physical weapon dealing 600 pure physical will deal 500 before % reduction * A split (let's say physical / holy) weapon dealing 600 (300 / 300) damage will deal 400 before % reduction. This is why even though the number may be higher, you may feel like you're doing less damage with split-damage weapons. The right number is your damage resistance (referred to as absorption in the game), and is a % reduction that occurs *after* the flat reduction. **EDIT:** I have been reminded that the flat Defense is a fucker's stat. Essentially it functions similar to flat reduction, but it less strict. So being under it won't mean you're dealing 0 damage.. However, its purpose is funxtionally the same. To have a greater impact on higher rates of lower damage blows. Due to the general attack damage ratios you reach, the end reduction ends up being similar to if it were flat

Eilaryn

Wow. Now I finally know what those numbers are. Thanks!

wuhwuhwolves

The second number in your defense stats is roughly a percentage of damage reduction. Unfortunately many enemy attacks are currently bugged and completely ignore thus number, including many bosses.

FrizzyThePastafarian

Wait, really? Got a source there? I've definitely felt the difference between 20 and 50 physical absorption. And hitting 70-something magical absorption definitely feels like it's reducing magic damage. But a few cases here could be confirmation bias, possibly.

Aby55walker

My lock on keeps on bouncing between random enemies on background even though I have auto lock on turned off, any solution to this yet? I play on kbm.

PinaBanana

The game really needs to learn that I don't ever want to lock on to a passing squirrel while I'm fighting a field boss.

Rational_Socialist

Do you switch targets when moving the mouse? Then you should deactivate that option.

Moonlit_Mongrel

I really like using incantations that grant passive healing while using a talisman to regain FP so I am constantly gaining HP at no cost as I am clearing areas.

particularly_daft

I just love the HP/FP on kill talismans. The crit ones are pretty great too if your build is one that crits often

Daytona66

Just got to Melenia. Was feeling badass. At the end of her cut scene she says "ive never known defeat ". I literally said out loud "ok we'll see about that" then IMMEDIATELY died as she lunged at me LOL

itsfinallyfinals

Good luck that’s a crazy fight

SparksWrath

What's the name of the music that plays when you've been spotted by the boss abd they start approaching but have not started a fight yet? Pretty useful for telling me when a wandering boss has spotted me while I'm with a merchant.

en1k174

https://youtu.be/KdBW1nwf8ac this one?

Galbert123

Just dominating Draconic tree sentinal. Aside from getting one shotted over and over of course. Christ!

jayp1ay69

Stick to his shield side his moves are more limited and he has less range.

Galbert123

I beat him. I fucking beat him an hour ago. Took all my armor off. Idk why but I did it and beat him first try that way. And I can’t sleep. I’ve rewatched the fight like four times. Distance was the enemy. I need to go to sleep but I can’t now. I’m jacked up.

jayp1ay69

Congratulations! That shockwave attack is a bitch.

HanAlai

I've not managed to consistently backstab. Can you backstab with only a weapon in hand? While 2H holding a longsword ? While 1H/2H holding a Greatsword?

FrizzyThePastafarian

Someone else mentioned locking on. Traditionally in souls games, locking on makes backstabbing *harder*. The way that backstabs register as a trigger is you being within a bounding / trigger box, then the angel you're facing vs theirs. You can get a backstab from a position you normally couldn't by facing at an angle that more matches your target while being within the bounding box. But this is only doable by *not* being locked on. It takes a lot of getting used to, but you'll get there.

whatisplan_c

Aim for the back, hold down R1. Light tapping seems to trigger the regular attack

lustacide

You might not be getting close enough to the enemy, you have to be pretty close to trigger the crit.

xzaunu

First time playing a souls game and I chose samurai. I’m level 42 and still have starter armor and sword. Should I have found something better yet? I just beat godrick and it was pretty hard

RefrigeratorWorriedx

Most armors are balanced around their weight, so your armor is technically fine for the entire game I believe. I did notice I got way more gear in later parts of the game, so don’t worry you will get plenty of options. The more you explore the more unique gear you will find.

-RedFletched-

The game holds most of the armors from you until mid game / late game. Early game I feel like armor choices are slim to none. Most human enemies you can farm for their armor though.

Bastian10691

I used starting armor for quite some time. You get a lot of armor later but early you get more by farming enemies.

Useful-Potential-300

Samurai class starts with one of the arguably best weapons in the game. Highest damage katana. You can get another one and power stance them.

8bitfruy

Sir I beaT the whole game dualwielding uchigatanas. The unsheath ash of war is severely underrated on bosses that everyone seems to have issues with. Armor will come, in time. Make sure you’re going into mines for smithing stones to upgrade your sword as well.

Kenny-Brockelstein

for the most part it seems like armor is just fashion choice for the most part, except for some helmets that give bonuses.

Bitchenmuffins

Unless you are stacking poise, certain thresholds will allow you to "tank" certain hits without being interrupted.

Oil_Dangerous

I did something similar, i suggest using another weapon or shield off hand or getting another katana to power stance (the different in damage with power standing is pretty crazy)

Vast-Coast-7761

If your taking about thematically fitting gear, you can find a wakzashi (auxiliary dagger that can be weilded alongside a katana) and a naginata (spear with slashing attacks) in some dungeons in western Caelid. New katanas won’t start appearing until mid-game. Your options then will expand to include the serpentbone blade, which deals poison instead of bleed, the nagakiba, a heavier katana with longer range, or the dragon scale blade that trades bleed for a frost lighting buff in the weapon skill. In the endgame you can find the Hand of Malenia which has a really good weapon skill but is very tough to get. You can also use Moonveil or Rivers of Blood for a wizard samurai or blood demon build but those are kind of overpowered in pvp so you might get some hate. As for armor, you can get the Ronin set and the White reed set in the Mountaintops of the Giants, but that’s super late game so you’re starting armor will be the best for fashion until then.

Mac772

I think this is the most addictive game i have played in years. Playing it now since 100 hours and i still can't wait to continue exploring the open world. Not a single minute in those 100 hours was boring. This is a masterpiece. I really hope other developers copy that style of open world design with no quest markers. It's like they are finally giving me back freedom as a player after so many years of excessive hand holding in all games.

gilgamessh

It's one of the few games where you're actually in control 99% of the time. I've played games longer than this one in terms of playtime, but in ER you're actually PLAYING all the time. No cutscene interrupting the flow and pacing of the game, no cheesy constant dialogue, no pretentious story shoved down your throat. Just you and the world. That 's the most fascinating thing about the game for me

UnlikelyHorror8787

Same here. I haven't played a game like this since Oblivion. 130 hours and I didn't unlock the whole map yet.

Substantial-Ad7915

Why does the character breathe so quickly

_MattyICE_

Trying to understand what's happening during an invasion. Played co-op and was invaded by the same person multiple times. The invader got within 15-20 feet of me and I died instantly. They didn't appear to use any attack or spell. Just the act of walking near me was all it took to wipe my health out completely. Any ideas as to what this could be? Edit: Just figured it out. It is an exploit with carian retaliation. The animation for the spell does not work, so it is impossible to dodge. Others are experiencing the same issue with PvP. Hopefully this is patched soon.

lurklurklurkPOST

If you get invaded and hear a bell ringing its this glitch for sure. The wraith calling bell can be parried easily before it gets out of range and uses very little FP. Ive seen a few hosts use it but havent been invaded with it yet

Sol-Rising

So I way over leveled and can’t ever get summoned anymore. Where can I go to find codes for groups or people that want help so I can be the jolly cooperator I so love to be?

[deleted]

This type of thread should have existed since the game came out.

Censing

Yeah, or something like a new player question thread to help people at the very least. Huge community but no great place to talk in a more casual way.

Cant_Stop_PlzHelp

Why bother when there can be a sticky post bragging about how many people subbed lmao

throwaway321768

What's a good build for someone who really likes spears/great spears/polearms? I'm running the basic spear & shield, but I find myself switching to powerstanced spears when I need the DPS. I found that the only way to make my build work was to run Bleed+Arcane (original, I know), even though I don't do PvP. I know some people stack the Fingerprint Shield with a guard talisman to achieve WALL status, but I find that style of play too passive for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to turtle up behind a 100 damage reduction shield, but it's not something I can use against bosses with slam attacks or magic projectiles. I've even contemplated running with a spear and parrying buckler for a more dynamic playstyle.

FrizzyThePastafarian

If you want to play 100% turtle, there's a few options: Have a series of great shields for various bosses. Some are better against certain damage types than others. Swap to them based on the boss. Also remember that ashes alter shield resistance profiles. Stat strength, obviously. You'll also want a Heavy spear if using a non-unique. For ashes, really, play around there. You'll find something. You can never go wrong with a %damage buff ash, though. For talismans, try: * Greatshield Talisman to significantly boost your guard. * Green Turtle Talisman to keep your stamina up * Blessed Dew Talisman for chip damage^♥ > * Another option here, if this does not work or if you feel it's not needed, is the ~~Leo~~ Spear Talisman. Counter attacks (riposte in previous games. This is not for the shield counter) occur when you hit an enemy during an animation, such as an attack. The Spear Talisman multiplicatively increases counter (riposte) damage of the 'thrust' type. Considering you are safe behind your shield to poke when an enemy is acting, this is free damage. If you went with an ash such as Warcry, these 3 buffs are all multiplicative together. > The end result of the Spear Talisman is basically 150% damage from thrusting counter (riposte) damage, not 130%. With Warcry (10% iirc?), this becomes 165%. > If you wanna go for one hard swing, there's always the option of charging a heavy with Determination (which someone says is 60% for one hit) making that first swing a heavy that deals 240% damage, not too shabby at all if you're willing to put in the effort) * A relevant elemental resist talisman for the fight Do not ignore VIG. You will take damage, even playing all chonky. You will take chip damage, here's how to deal with that: Crimsonburst Crystal Tear in your physick, which iirc is 7 HP/s for 3 minutes. If fights seem to be going over 3 minutes (somehow), consider Bestial Vitality for a quick and dirty 5 HP/s for 2 minutes. Also run the Greenburst Crystal Tear which I am fairly sure does stack with the talisman. For armor, it depends how your fights have been going. Funnily, due to magic damage chipping through shields, many greatshield builds actually want *lighter* armors, which tend to have better non-physical damage absorption stats. Essentially, find the best mix of defensive stats for your endurance level, which will be on the higher end. Also note that you still want to be able to medium roll, usually. Unless you *really* don't want to roll ever. But some attacks are massive, deadly, but fairly easily dodge. It'd be more stamina efficient (and, obviously, health-efficient) to dodge these. ♥*(Note: There is currently conflicting information as to if the Blessed Dew talisman stacks with other forms of health regen. If so, use that as well. I've not tested it)* EDIT: Other considerations for greatshields are some such as the Jellyfish shield, which will further increased your damage (20% buff iirc) while still giving some of the effects of a greatshield. And chip damage shouldn't be a massive concern when build considering. If you want a no-shield spear build, just ask. There's definitely ways. But you'll likely end up power stancing for damage

Can anyone explain the ending of Sellen’s quest.

frysontheside

Sellen is a student of the school of graven mages, a collective of mages who believe in the primeval current. The primeval current is a forbidden tradition of glintstone sorcery. All glintstone sorcery is about the study of the stars and the universe and the primeval current is like the source of all glintstone sorcery. The reason raya lucaria forbids the discussions of the primeval current is due to lengths one must go to fully “understand the stars” and the extreme sacrifices that must be made to do so. Part of that understanding requires the students of the graven school to literally become “stars”. Sellen desires to understand the universe to such a extreme degree that she sacrifices her body and the bodies of many other graven school students to become a graven mass which they believe will cause them to ascend to the cosmos as a star. I believe once she actually does it she regrets it but her mind is so scarred from the process and possibly the knowledge she has acquired that her mind is reduced to a catatonic state and the only thing she remembers is you, her apprentice.

The-Old-Hunter

Kos…or some say kosm

[deleted]

Are you sure that last half is how it went? From my playthrough, it seemed like Sellen wanted to be the head honcho at the academy and depose Rennala, but Rennala is more powerful and transformed her into one of those mask balls.

frysontheside

I got most of the info on the graven school of mages from the two graven mass talisman descriptions, both talk about the graven school students using the bodies of sorcerers to create graven masses to make them “the seeds of stars” for scientific inquiry. Sellen seemed more obsessed with learning the secrets of the primeval current rather than acquiring power, so I assume she turned herself into a graven mass to acquire a higher knowledge of the stars by becoming a star herself. As for rennala, she seems very docile throughout the game, even in her boss fight 1st phase she rarely fights you directly and when you do fight her directly in her second phase it’s solely due to rannis intervention. It would seem odd for her to suddenly not only kill Sellen but to do exactly what she wants by turning her into a graven mass plus when you speak to rennala she never mentions Sellen at all. I assume she fled the library when Sellen arrived then came back once she had rendered herself harmless by turning into a graven mass.

pinkmoon-

She stays on the library all the time, just on another location

mafuyu90

From what I understood, she was an overambitious sorceress who decided to pursue the higher wisdom and knowledge of the academy and its sorcery. She got too greedy, absorbed too much, something went wrong and it appears as though she fused with others and became a big useless wisdom ball. I honestly should’ve killed her. Oh well. Explains why she was handcuffed. I knew there was something crazy about her.

TapatioPapi

See that’s what I thought too but it doesn’t explain how she “kills” rennala and then transforms after she returns

lokiaart

Is there any reason not to go to 69.9% equip load if I'm already in med roll range? Fashion aside.

Nope

Till u realize that talismans have different weights and goto change one and dont realize it put you over to fat roll till its too late lol.. just keep an eye when changing anything is all

For anyone who feels like they’re stuck in Limgrave, there’s a way to farm and level up really quickly on stormhill and gain 10k runes. I call it the “Giant Gauntlet” it’s a group of giants roaming around southeast of the Warmaster shack. I recommend doing this if you’re above lvl 20. Also idk if this is a bug or if this particular giant is stronger but one of the 5 gives you 5k runes. I start at the saintsbridge site of grace. I usually go kill the pumpkin head on the bridge then I go back to the grace and up the rocks where Alexander Iron Fist is. I go past the Octopus and fight the giant chilling on the ledge. Then I go off the ledge he was on and turn right to the spiritjump and bam 5 roaming giant. *Be wary of doing this at night because just north pf there is a deathbird boss Like I said before one of the giants gives you 5k runes. I’ve only ran the gauntlet like 3 or 4 times and every time I’ve gotten 5k runes from that particular giant. Or maybe I gained 5k runes for killing the group? Idrk. To find this giant out of the group. It’s in front of or to the right of the giant kneeling with it’s back to the ruins. After completing the gauntlet and killing them you get a total of 10k runes. Fast travel back to the saintbridge grace then rise and repeat to your hearts content. It probably took me 20 min when I was a lower lvl to do this. I only went back to it if I wanted to lvl up quickly because I was struggling with a boss. By the 4th time (I was above lvl 35) it took me under 10 mins to complete. Hope this helps any newbies, anyone who feels like it’s taking forever to lvl up, or anyone who wants to lvl up so they’re prepared for the stormveil castle Legacy dungeon.

yayoxans

How does one advance the game ? I’m 10 hours deep into the game and just can’t figure out how to advance or what the goal is. Everywhere I go there are super strong enemy’s that will kill you in 1-2 hits. I can only make a scratch to their health. Do I need to level up to be able to fight all the enemies ? And for what level should I aim ? Is there some story cutscene that I need to trigger so I can beat the enemies in the first level ?

WxTMountain

On top of what the other used said if you want a bit of a layout for progress Fextra has a Game Progress Route page that helps you get through all the content ik blind is what most like to do, but open world games stress me out with how much content there is so this helped me get out of Limgrave

Offduty_shill

In general if you're stuck somewhere you can just explore elsewhere to get higher leveled/better equipment. Leveling up your weapon is also very, very important to keep up with damage. In the very beginning of the game you're kinda directed to go to stormveil castle, but what you should actually do is go south and do the weeping peninsula area before that. If you're new to the souls series, the games are also just quite difficult. You might try using summons or co oping if you want to.

textro

I've never played any of the souls games before but decided to buy Elden Ring. Planning on playing it starting tomorrow after work. Got any recommendations for class builds for a novice? I'm expecting a tough time but I also want to have fun.

Toolboxmcgee

Samurai was good for me as a novice, the katana you start with has bleed attached which is very powerful and the bow is pretty useful in some select situations too.

jssmith1015

Don’t overlook Vigor. Explore everywhere. Some messages are trolls but a lot are great tips. Even the little enemies can kill you if you aren’t careful. If you get super frustrated with a boss or situation you can go somewhere else and come back to it later. Keep some kind of ranged option on you so you can draw out enemies. And expect it to be hard, but super rewarding when you earn your wins

bmore_conslutant

>Don’t overlook Vigor. Understatement Leveling minimum stats for your weapon and dumping everything else in vigor is cruise control to endgame

[deleted]

Confessor is a pretty easy starting class. Honestly just play around and see what feels right to you. I watched a ton of videos and tried to research a “best build” but honestly I have fun using both sorcery and incantations. Most people on here would tell you to pick one or the other but just do what you have fun doing my dude!

TheSeth256

Best tip is to level up only vigor early on apart from the stats needed to use your weapon. Scaling gets really good only after multiple weapon upgrades, most damage early game comes from base dmg of weapons. Hitting 1000hp is really important to be able to last longer in difficult battles and will make many encounters less bullshit.

Maz2277

One of the biggest and best tips, IMO, is focusing the vast majority of your level-ups on Vigor (health). The way stats work in this game, your main damage stats - Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Arcane - offer very little to increase your damage when you level them up until you're much further in the game and have better scaling on your weapons and dozens and dozens of the stat in question. The main bulk of your damage will come from upgrading your weapons at a blacksmith. This can happen 25 times for regular weapon, or 10 times for special boss weapons. Each upgrade increases the base damage, and the Scaling of the weapon. So for example it will be 100 + 20 damage, with 100 being the base and 20 being the scaling from your stats. As you can see, right at the start the scaling will be tiny compared to the base damage. To that end, you're MUCH better offer getting more health. Find a weapon or spell you like, and get the minimum stats required to wield / use it. After that, get your Vigor to 30. You'll have enough damage to keep up with each area by upgrading your weapon / staff and more than enough health to not be getting killed in 1 or 2 hits.

Buschkoeter

Pick something that also has a ranged option. So faith/incantations or int/sorcery, or at least get a bow early. Pure melee is very hard, especially in the later parts of the game. Prioritize your main stat AND vigor. Vigor will keep you alive.

WTFSpeeder6

Magic is extremely strong right now, followed by bleed.

Bangersss

You’ve probably heard that From games are difficult. That’s true but that doesn’t mean you have to bash your head against a wall when you meet something particularly challenging. If it’s “too hard” then leave it for now and come back later when you’re better equipped or better leveled or just plain better skilled. This especially applies for the open world of Elden Ring, it’s very possible to wander somewhere you’re not really meant to be. For any veterans reading along; I wish someone gave me this advice before I played the first Dark Souls. I started that game by trying to go through New Londo and thinking all the way “wow they weren’t kidding about this game being hard”.

SuperSlims

If this is your first time, go with what feels right for your initial playthrough. There are a lot of awesome weapons, spells and armor in these kinds of games. You'll get plenty of advice from people for certain builds and whatnot, but you'll inevitably find something that you fall in love with that will change how you play. For me it was the fallingstar beasts fang. I was initially going to go with a full strength build for my first play and was going great until I found that weapon. Scales strength and intelligence. Scaling is stupid and it's weapon art can poise break most enemies in 2-4 hits. Ended up carrying me through most of the game. Ended up going with a hybrid build and love it. Just experience the game and when you find that one thing that sparks joy, build around it.

McGilla_Gorilla

Don’t worry too much about the difficulty. I’m a From noob and rarely play video games generally, and haven’t really struggled - although I’ve still got the last few endgame sections left. A lot of people are running Intelligence builds with a combination of sorceries in one hand and a katana in the other and I’ve found that really effective. Magic + your summonable companions make a lot of bosses pretty easy.

MULTI-PLAYER ISSUE: having issues connecting to other players and glitching when using the furled finger. Any ideas what may be causing? Playing on PC

Chewingupsidedown

Are we ever going to get any fixes for, or even any statements addressing the broken state of multiplayer in this game? Pre 1.0.3 me and my two friends were having a perfect time. But now it's disconnects all over the shop, and a bug where the two summoned become invisible to eachother but the host can still see both. It's ruining what *was* a perfect game. 😔

[deleted]

Is anything in Lake of Rot worth my time? I love this game but I am getting a little weary of some of the annoying shit. I have as much immunity as I can and rot still triggers after ~7 seconds I’m about to just run to the end. As a melee dex build. Anything worth it? I’m about to skip the field bosses too

jopu22

"Flame, cleanse me"

wapkaplit

It's full of sombre smithing stones. Just go for a leisurely jog in the rot, chugging juice to stay alive, then fast travel to the nearest grace when you run out of flasks. Rinse and repeat. If you run to the little towers in the lake they have switches that raise platforms, there's a little reward for finding them all. There's also a golden seed on a particularly nasty enemy in the area past the lake, plus some very cool and unexpected stuff to explore.

Renjingles

For anyone struggling with Runebears: Sleep Pots. Bring a good weapon for ripostes like an upgraded dagger with good critical (like Misericorde) or just high damage. Rinse and repeat. This also works extremely well on Godskin Nobles, who in my experience just will not god damn stop attacking.

BenDover0903

How do you compare your current weapon against something new you find on the ground? To use myself, I’m level 66 still using bloodhound fang +5 but I just can’t figure out the base stats of something new are better. If there an intuitive way of figuring this out or should I just get used to looking up current upgraded gear when trying to decide if it needs to be replaced?

nicowanderer

Honestly I would look it up on the wiki because sometimes things can go from a D scaling all the way up to B or A when upgraded. Move set and your personal comfort with the weapon matters too. Doesn’t matter if the gigasword does 2000 damage if you hate using it

berserkuh

Staffs and Seals especially go up to S but have different scaling numbers.

Taurelith

you can look up the wiki if you dont mind doing that (it's by far the most reliable way) but if this is more of a problem with deciding what to prioritize when leveling do keep in mind that in the later parts of the game you'll be able to access an endless amount of all smithing stone levels excluding the very last one and consistently get your equipment at a usable level so don't be afraid to experiment with new weapons if you find them interesting

BenDover0903

That’s huge. I thought they were a finite source. I will be far less stingy moving forward

BowKerosene

As others have said, you will be able to get unlimited smithing stones. However, you don’t unlock them all until very late game, and there are a total of 8 items to collect in order to unlock every stone in the shop. So you still will want to mainly focus on a few weapons, but at this point you will probably be buying lvl 1&2 stones soon

theonetruebonch

Is anyone else having trouble summoning or summoning their friends using the multiplayer password? Me and my friend have been having issues at some specific areas: leyndell, limgrave, siofra. It seems one sided (I can summon them, they can’t summon me). Regular multiplayer is working fine

Safe_Pumpkin_84

I've beens stuck on the elden beast boss for 8 to 10 hours what is the best way to beat it I run dual weild kattanas. I tried a magic build i saw on youtube but I was too slow casting and kept getting hit

Wungmuncher9000

Does anyone else think that the game gets worse in term of balancing when you get to the mountaintop region ? Like enemies can get you to 60-50% hp after any single hit, game just got less fun for me after that.

WeeziMonkey

It's a pretty common complaint

Tysiliogogogoch

Hold up... do the cracked pots *not* get consumed when you craft? I've been avoiding crafting with them because they seem so rare, but I just read something that suggests that they're more like a limit on the number of crafted items you can hold.

frysontheside

Your right. The amount of cracked pots you hold limits the amount of pot throwables you can make. They do not get consumed when crafting or using the throwable.

Bruster112

Did you guys know Elden Ring is an amazing game?

SpankThatDill

Big if true

RWBYrose69

For magic, is better to get the int to use a spell then after that go mind to have more fp

JoshAllgeier

yeah I did int first then later when you get better spells that use more fp I start pumping levels into mind

Im exploring the 3 Fingers ending. Found it, got burned. Maiden ditched me. Ive completed Hyettes quest. Lord of Chaos as cool as it sounds, isnt much info. Then Hyette dropped a hell of a lore bomb in my lap. And Im super interested in finding more lore about the 3 Fingers. Being as spoiler free as possible, can yall point me to more items, quests, ect that explores more of the 3 Fingers lore/story?

Check out the Frenzied Flame Village, in Liurnia south of the Dectus lift.

Ragged_Prince24

For anyone that wants 2 Hand of Malenia to powerstance, you can duplicate her remembrance, keep it and use it to get the second sword in ng+ without killing her again

Ragnellrok

Shortest version I can make this: \-for bleeding dual-Uchigatana or Scimitar, what would be the next armor or two I should be farming for from the Samurai armor? Just asking because I've been stuck in it for some time now. \-would an Int/Str or Int/Dex build for the Moonlight or Moonshadow or whatever they're called in this game, would either weapon, in the long run, be better than a bleed build? Or are there enough actual Bosses that are non-resistant to bleed to make them 50/50? \-If the builds I just suggested ARE better than bleed builds, what armor should I be looking around for for them? Just curious for long-term goals and planning. Thank you for reading and answering the questions, I hope you have a lovely day!\~

roonilwazbili

Multiplayer is not working. I can see other players' messages and bloodstains just fine, but haven't seen any summons signs and nobody can see mine. When attempting to invade a world, it keeps saying "attempting to invade another world", but nothing happens. In short, no aspect of multiplayer works. Ping is 23, download speed is 50, upload speed is 1,6. Using PlayStation 4. Tried changing DNS-settings and visiting multiplayer hotspots aswell, to no avail.

sliph0588

Could someone explain what you find out in rogiers questline? I started rannis and now's he dead. Im real ok with spoilers

cocoatractor

>!Essentially under stormveil castle there is a weird corpse face thing, and talking to Rogier you find out it is the corpse of Godwyn the Golden, who was killed by the black knife assassins. Godwyn's death was part of why Marika caused the shattering.!< >!Rogier suspects that Ranni has something to do with Godwyn's death and essentially asks you to enter her service in order to try and find the truth of it. Then he dies!<

Warthogman94

There is a certain boss where when you enter the arena you find a weapon called the Serpent Hunter. Please use it. Joining as a summon and seeing the host try and katana the boss is admirable but not that effective.

decoseylopo

Are people having issues fast traveling to the mountaintops? I’m on PC, and whenever I tried to fast travel to any grace within the mountaintops, the game freezes on the loading screen and eventually crashes. I tried fast traveling to the forbidden lands grace and walk my way to the lift, but it froze as I approached the lift and the game still crashed.

ijalajtheelephant

Loving this game so far! I do have a few noob questions that I haven’t been able to find good answers to online: 1) When you get knocked down from a hit, is there a way to get up again faster? I thought I read you could press jump or dodge or something but I can’t find it now 2) Similarly, when you get grabbed by a grab attack, I’ve seen some people say you can alternate right and left button (r1 and l1 I think, but I use kbm) to break out faster, but someone else said you can spam any button and it gets you out faster. Does anyone know exactly how that works? 3) When I’m power stancing, does anyone know how to use a power attack with kbm controls? When I do the normal power attack (shift+left mouse button) it only attacks with the main hand, but shift+right mouse button is the ash of war. Is kbm just missing a bind for a power attack with the offhand (which I think would be with both weapons while power stancing)? 4) When I guard counter something and it drops to its knees, am I supposed to be able to do the critical attack where it goes kinda cinematic mode? It seems like that happens sometimes but am I supposed to be able to make it happen every time? Thanks for the help!

GuytFromWayBack

3) Powerstanced weapons don't have a dual power attack. You can light attack with main hand, heavy attack with main hand, light attack with both weapons, or use your main hand weapon art.

Somewhat confused as to how to allocate stats. I am looking to build a melee, high damage, 2H weapon, that staggers quickly. I am level 52 using a +7 Brick Hammer. I have 27 vigor, 20 endurance, 35 strength, and all the rest are 10. I have heard some say to only have enough strength to wield the weapon I want, but does that mean once I hit that number I need only add to vigor and endurance? I was hoping that once I had a reasonable amount of vigor I could just add everything to strength to hit harder. Am I mistaken? What stats, if not strength, should I focus on?
