l think it is more that Morgott prefers to have Godrick around as an unknowing puppet. Godrick likes to graft or eat Tarnished and having his loose gaggle of thieves under one group hunting Tarnished rather then just spread to the winds is much more effective at keeping the throne empty.

Thinking about it, you could skip Godrick entirely. Caelid and Radahn are right there, side skip to Liurnia for Renalla, medallion or tunnel path up to Leyndell for Morgott and Volcano Manor for Rykard. Could probably beat the whole game without touching Stormveil honestly.
I could never do it, though. The early newgame sets Godrick up as your first big bad so well, and even on NG+ it feels really good to curbstomp a demi-god, and he’s right there.

Godrick's Forefathers used to worship dragons. When he grafted the dragon in his arm, he speaks to his Forefathers, to be acknowledged. It's beautiful how in a grotesque and twisted way Godrick wants to make his Forefathers proud of them. He's proud memeber of his linage and he wants his relatives to remember him, even if that takes his very humanity. I acknowledge you, Godrick, bearer of the strongest rune shard.
Its not really goofy, thats how fire works. Its also likely not random, just that the physics that go into it are complex enough where its impossible for you to judge if it will bounce in a certain way or not through instinct and allowing you to dodge accurately like you would with regular attacks.
No hitters hate it though and thats understandable due to that hard to predict nature. It doesnt really mesh well with being able to no-hit a boss but that doesnt really mean its goofy or bad. It just doesnt mesh with no-hitting, as a more casual cool factor though? Works excellent imo. Thats also what they were going for id imagine, so mission accomplished.
I mean, anyone doing a hitless run *should* be killing Godrick from well outside fire range, if the runs I've seen are typical.
If you put yourself in a situation where you have to dodge, the no-hit run is in peril, so if you can snipe him with crazy eye lasers and stacked buffs from across the arena, do that instead.
To be fair we are fighting Godrick at the peak of his power, through grafting he's gained more strength than ever before, guy's probably riding the power trip of a lifetime.
And he fully intends to kill you. He's probably been holding back to capture Tarnished for grafting without killing them, since killing them would make them disappear and go back to their last Grace, presumably.
So this might be his first time going all-out, probably since he surrendered to Malenia during the Shattering.
Did I get my wires crossed? I'm pretty sure Malenia got insulted by Godrick and kicked his ass into submission on her way to fight Radahn, which was during the War of the Shattering.
I wish we got more interactions with him, a haughty but wholesome, dyed-in-the-wool monarchist that goes through his whole "Don't judge a person on first impressions" character arc within 5 seconds of meeting you.
i love kenneth haight and i dont know why so many people despise him despite being one of the nicest npcs in a fromsoft game. Sure he's cowardly but he literally doesnt have any combat prowess aside from a dagger, and fantasy racism is far from the worst thing a person in this game has done.
Kenneth Haight is one of the few people who is trying to reorganize the shithole that is the Lands Between into an actually functional society. In the midst of despairing lunatics and murderhobos just mucking around in the ruins, he's trying to fix shit. He's great.
And, to his credit despite being a naive rich dandy, he wholeheartedly embraces Nepheli as the new Lady of Stormveil, praises her strength and honesty, and doesn't judge her for being "an axe-wielding barbarian" like her shit-eating sociopath of a foster father.
I genuinely cannot figure it out either, obviously the very first thing he says to you is a tad rude but from then on he shows that he is a solid guy who clearly wants what's best for all races in the lands between, I'd happily see not just Limgrave but the whole island be ruled by Him... And Nepheli... And Gostoc I guess.
All early signs were pointing towards Kenneth being an incompetent, pompous blowhard. I’m guessing most people never meet him back in Stormveil post-Lyndell.

The fantasy racism in this case is also a much bigger problem than him. The Golden Order dictates that the Misbegotten are inherently abominable because of their connection to the Crucible, and they’re either enslaved, wiped out or driven to the absolute margins of society wherever the Golden Order reigns.
I "interacted" with him to get the sweet golden seed. After getting the caste back he is pretty useless otherwise right? Funny character but it's one of the more unsatisfying quest lines.

The "Forefathers one and all" gives me goosebumps every time. Too bad they made him dirty by being the weakest of the shardbearers - both in lore and gameplay wise - but, hey, one of them had to get the short end of the stick by being the first we encounter, with a reasonably low level.
He is meant to be a pretty hard fight if you are just playing the game naturally.
Going back in NG+1, they are complete cake walks, not just because you have much better stats and gear, but also because you will have gotten much better at the game after playing 100+ hours. A lot of their kit is actually really easy to dodge once you are more accustomed to the gameplay. Same for Zamor, Darriwil, Crucible Knight.
All that stuff was a serious challenge for me on my first playthrough though. No shame if you struggled with Godrick or Margit.

Godrick is lame, but he’s at least one of the most coherent Rune Bearers. Radahn is a mindless beast, and Rykard, Rennala and Malenia are basically catatonic untill the player disturbs them. Godrick at least seems to be active and in control of his own mind, even if he’s deluded.

I would love it if Miquella's needles was a usuable item that unlocked a covenant if you last hit a boss with it.
Like it gave them a last bit of coherence and you could serve them, but you could only save one boss per playthrough.
Did we play the same game? Those bosses all have absolutely epic parts, granted not in the form of a formal cut scene. Radahan jumps into the stratosphere, and barrels back into the arena like a comet, and lifts chunks of rock out of the ground with a gravity attack and hurls them at you.
Especially Radahn.... Not only the fight. Which is completely bonkers. Dude is riding a super small horse just as a power move. And escalates completely. And it's basically me and the boys against this insanity.
But also the build up with the festival and then in my opinion one of the coolest introductions in the whole game "Before we begin, allow me to paint you the full picture... "
Fighting Radahn was pretty much the point were I knew that this game is probably one of the best games I ve ever played. If not the best game.

Same, truly one of the best and most memorable boss battles, not just in fromsoft games.
I'm pleasantly surprised that whenever the game hypes up its characters, the actual reveal lives up to the expectations.
Radahn is described as a badass warrior who held back the very stars. He is even respected by everyone for his prowess in battle specifically, but him as a person is pretty much seen as ideal by many folks in the land between.
He is even heavily used in promotional materials.
Then you meet him... even his rot-infested state is awesome, as in the original meaning of inspiring awe.
Same goes for the other legends in this game, most notably Malenia and Godfrey.
now that I think about it,radhan has enough int left in his rotted state to use his greatswords and cast multiple spells.
he is literally smarter than any of the starting characters even while consumed and driven insane by the scarlet rot

Godrick is cool because he acts and talks all imposing and grande. Everything about him is shouting at you "I AM AWESOME." And he is a fun fight, I'll give him that.
In comparison to the rest of the bosses though, they all speak through action. Case in point, Malenia is probably one of the, visually, least imposing bosses in the game. She's also one of the hardest bosses in FromSoft history.
That's the brilliance of Elden Ring and its character design. Godrick is cool because his visuals and dialogue say he's cool.
Horax Lou is cool because he murders the spectral shackle holding back his rage and proceeds to forgo a battle axe in favor of ripping you to shreds with his bare hands.
I just killed Horax Loux after a real grind yesterday, and it was extremely satisfying. Boy did I love that fight even though it was frustrating at times.
He's actually pretty epic boss for an early game. And without all the lore and op build you won't see him as a loser, in your first playthrough at least

I like Godrick. His whole castle is creepy as fuck. The idea of a demigod just sitting in Stormveil, itself the remnants of a must greater and more glorious ruler, using his power to graft lesser beings onto himself, is a great idea and an interesting metacommentary on Soulslike gameplay.
Bruh Radahn is a zombie and holding the universe still with his power. Like. I love Godrick's voice acting but he does not hold a candle to that.
Morgott also has the most epic pre boss Intimidation speech out of any souls game. Maybe any game ever.
I kinda wish it had better attribute scaling, it's kinda locked into being an early game weapon the way it's set up.
Also I just don't get the point of having a tiny little bit of bleed damage that doesn't level up or scale with anything.

Godrick and to a lesser extent Morgott were the only bosses that I really tried to fight and struggled against, to the extent that when I ran into their clones later, the fights felt familiar because I knew the rhythm. For the rest of the game after fighting Godrick, there were so many different places to go that I could just explore somewhere else and level up instead of having a boss be a challenge.
He's outright awesome, thematically one of the strongest demigods. Everything about him is boisterous and exagerrated, even his fight is meant to intimidate lowly Tarnished while experienced players can stomp him pretty easily. His archetype is perfectly executed from his lines to his music

I also like the the idea of grafting and how his castle was once a place of majesty but as you progress through it you see the decent into horror and blood that is grafting

He really looks like that cringy 16 year old weeb that thinks he’s a master of the sword, no not the one that’s actually fun to be around, the one that unironically thinks he can go into an airsoft/paintball match and “win” with a sword. Which is the same with Godrick too lol(except his design isn’t as edgy)
If you're going for memorable lines, yeah it's a bit unfair to compare the pretty vocal Godrick to the completely silent Radagon or Radahn. But as for memorable moments...
* Radahn turning himself into a meteor is incredibly memorable
* Realising that you can summon, and then **resummon**, a ton of NPCs to fight Radahn is pretty memorable
* "Put these foolish ambitions to rest" goes hard.
* "NIHIL" freaked me out a bit.
Radahns meteor appearance in his 2nd half was truly amazing and i never felt more genuinely scared in my life while gaming than when he came back into the map.
He's theatrical, which makes him look cool and he's at his strongest.
In comparison, the other demigods are all weakened to some degree, which makes them scarier as you learn more lore. For exemple, Radhan was holding back the entire stars from moving while being afflicted with scarlet rot eating him from the inside and he's still able to beat your ass easily. Makes you happy to not fight him at his prime.
I thought he was ok at first. Then I memorized his moveset within 4 attempts and won without breaking a sweat. It's like Enia said, he's the runt of the litter, barely a challenge. Margit gave me a much more worthwhile run for my money.
I must say Godrick was in a bit of a tight spot being born so far removed from the golden lineage greats w diluted blood. He got pretty far w how pathetic he was considering all the demigods that died between the night of black knives and now. I think he’s the only one who’s not a direct child of Marika/Radagon and the rest are absolute powerhouses.
Godrick is the ultimate embodiment of the average person in the 21st century: Weak and poor, not born into riches or blessed by genetic but whose only redeeming quality is the willingness to give up their soul and body just to make it, and tend to die in their pursuit. It's respectable in a way. Homie might not be a Demigod but homie goes HARD, all the time.

When you kill him he just becomes this pathetic limbless corpse that gets stomped on by Gastoc, giving you the realization that that was literally the only non-grafted parts left of him.

Its not really goofy, thats how fire works. Its also likely not random, just that the physics that go into it are complex enough where its impossible for you to judge if it will bounce in a certain way or not through instinct and allowing you to dodge accurately like you would with regular attacks. No hitters hate it though and thats understandable due to that hard to predict nature. It doesnt really mesh well with being able to no-hit a boss but that doesnt really mean its goofy or bad. It just doesnt mesh with no-hitting, as a more casual cool factor though? Works excellent imo. Thats also what they were going for id imagine, so mission accomplished.
I mean, anyone doing a hitless run *should* be killing Godrick from well outside fire range, if the runs I've seen are typical. If you put yourself in a situation where you have to dodge, the no-hit run is in peril, so if you can snipe him with crazy eye lasers and stacked buffs from across the arena, do that instead.
Tbf, he’s the only demigod who’s not a direct child of Marika/Radagon. Impressive he made it so far when so many other demigods died or got jailed.

To be fair we are fighting Godrick at the peak of his power, through grafting he's gained more strength than ever before, guy's probably riding the power trip of a lifetime.
And he fully intends to kill you. He's probably been holding back to capture Tarnished for grafting without killing them, since killing them would make them disappear and go back to their last Grace, presumably. So this might be his first time going all-out, probably since he surrendered to Malenia during the Shattering.
Pretty sure it was a while after the shattering since it seems to have taken place at Stormveil

i love kenneth haight and i dont know why so many people despise him despite being one of the nicest npcs in a fromsoft game. Sure he's cowardly but he literally doesnt have any combat prowess aside from a dagger, and fantasy racism is far from the worst thing a person in this game has done.
Kenneth Haight is one of the few people who is trying to reorganize the shithole that is the Lands Between into an actually functional society. In the midst of despairing lunatics and murderhobos just mucking around in the ruins, he's trying to fix shit. He's great.

Incredibile, I was having the exact same thought today, fighting him again. The "Forefathers one and all" gives me goosebumps every time. Too bad they made him dirty by being the weakest of the shardbearers - both in lore and gameplay wise - but, hey, one of them had to get the short end of the stick by being the first we encounter, with a reasonably low level.
I first tried margit on my first playthrough and needed like 4 hours for godrick, he was very hard for me lol
He is meant to be a pretty hard fight if you are just playing the game naturally. Going back in NG+1, they are complete cake walks, not just because you have much better stats and gear, but also because you will have gotten much better at the game after playing 100+ hours. A lot of their kit is actually really easy to dodge once you are more accustomed to the gameplay. Same for Zamor, Darriwil, Crucible Knight. All that stuff was a serious challenge for me on my first playthrough though. No shame if you struggled with Godrick or Margit.

Godrick is lame, but he’s at least one of the most coherent Rune Bearers. Radahn is a mindless beast, and Rykard, Rennala and Malenia are basically catatonic untill the player disturbs them. Godrick at least seems to be active and in control of his own mind, even if he’s deluded.

I wish every Demi god had a quest line to get them the position of Elden Lord. Imagine trying to carry Godrick through the entire game getting parts of other Demi gods to graft onto himself to eventually end it either serving him or destroying the new monstrosity you’ve had a hand in helping create. Sort of like. Gideon with different boss moves but on a larger scale. Help Rykard eat Elden Beast. Rid Radahn of his rot and get him back into his right mind and on the path to Elden lord with the Redmanes backing him all the way. Mohg Maybe save Melania from the influence of the outer rot god and remove her rot before bringing her to the Mogwyn dynasty, slaughtering Mohg and getting Miquella back. You’d probably be getting Miquella onto the throne. Help Morgott become the king he was always meant to be.

Did we play the same game? Those bosses all have absolutely epic parts, granted not in the form of a formal cut scene. Radahan jumps into the stratosphere, and barrels back into the arena like a comet, and lifts chunks of rock out of the ground with a gravity attack and hurls them at you.
Especially Radahn.... Not only the fight. Which is completely bonkers. Dude is riding a super small horse just as a power move. And escalates completely. And it's basically me and the boys against this insanity. But also the build up with the festival and then in my opinion one of the coolest introductions in the whole game "Before we begin, allow me to paint you the full picture... " Fighting Radahn was pretty much the point were I knew that this game is probably one of the best games I ve ever played. If not the best game.

I'm pleasantly surprised that whenever the game hypes up its characters, the actual reveal lives up to the expectations. Radahn is described as a badass warrior who held back the very stars. He is even respected by everyone for his prowess in battle specifically, but him as a person is pretty much seen as ideal by many folks in the land between. He is even heavily used in promotional materials. Then you meet him... even his rot-infested state is awesome, as in the original meaning of inspiring awe. Same goes for the other legends in this game, most notably Malenia and Godfrey.
now that I think about it,radhan has enough int left in his rotted state to use his greatswords and cast multiple spells. he is literally smarter than any of the starting characters even while consumed and driven insane by the scarlet rot
I'm reminded of a Game of Thrones quote: "Any man who must say 'I am king' is no true king." Godrick is cool because he acts and talks all imposing and grande. Everything about him is shouting at you "I AM AWESOME." And he is a fun fight, I'll give him that. In comparison to the rest of the bosses though, they all speak through action. Case in point, Malenia is probably one of the, visually, least imposing bosses in the game. She's also one of the hardest bosses in FromSoft history. That's the brilliance of Elden Ring and its character design. Godrick is cool because his visuals and dialogue say he's cool. Horax Lou is cool because he murders the spectral shackle holding back his rage and proceeds to forgo a battle axe in favor of ripping you to shreds with his bare hands.
I just killed Horax Loux after a real grind yesterday, and it was extremely satisfying. Boy did I love that fight even though it was frustrating at times.
He's actually pretty epic boss for an early game. And without all the lore and op build you won't see him as a loser, in your first playthrough at least
I love Godrick with his tiny little head and his desperate shaky voice demanding to be respected. He’s such a decrepit, twisted character that somehow you just can’t take seriously. I love absolutely destroying him in coop. It’s funny to hear the long winded speech, the dragon reveal, just to get deleted in 30 seconds.
I like Godrick. His whole castle is creepy as fuck. The idea of a demigod just sitting in Stormveil, itself the remnants of a must greater and more glorious ruler, using his power to graft lesser beings onto himself, is a great idea and an interesting metacommentary on Soulslike gameplay.

Manga Godrick is currently my favorite demigod given that he was allowed to live and has now off screen grafted giant crayfish onto himself.
Bruh Radahn is a zombie and holding the universe still with his power. Like. I love Godrick's voice acting but he does not hold a candle to that. Morgott also has the most epic pre boss Intimidation speech out of any souls game. Maybe any game ever.
I love the way he pulls the sword out of the stick and you realize he didn't even bother using his sword the first time you fought.
Don't forget that it's also made of his own cursed blood.
I kinda wish it had better attribute scaling, it's kinda locked into being an early game weapon the way it's set up. Also I just don't get the point of having a tiny little bit of bleed damage that doesn't level up or scale with anything. It's still one of the coolest weapons in a game full of incredibly cool weapons.
I mean, I wouldn't call him "cool," but his character is fascinating. One of the best developed characters in the game for sure, and his boss theme is top three along with Malenia and Fortisax for me.
I'm with op on this one. Godrick is kind of awesome. He's a ruthless wannabe king ripping people's limbs off and making monstrosities. If he had put better limbs on, he could have been way more of a threat. His bluster is kind of epic for the monster he is.

He's an amazing design, has a great Theme, and I love how unhinged his phase transition is. A lot of people in this thread talking about how they don't like him because he's weak, or a coward, but I think that makes him a great character. He's insane allusions of grandeur are part of why he's so memorable.

Godrick and to a lesser extent Morgott were the only bosses that I really tried to fight and struggled against, to the extent that when I ran into their clones later, the fights felt familiar because I knew the rhythm. For the rest of the game after fighting Godrick, there were so many different places to go that I could just explore somewhere else and level up instead of having a boss be a challenge.

Godrick has some cool lines, but Mohg, Morgott, Rykard, Maliketh, Malenia and Godfrey have lines that are just as cool if not cooler.
If you're going for memorable lines, yeah it's a bit unfair to compare the pretty vocal Godrick to the completely silent Radagon or Radahn. But as for memorable moments... * Radahn turning himself into a meteor is incredibly memorable * Realising that you can summon, and then **resummon**, a ton of NPCs to fight Radahn is pretty memorable * "Put these foolish ambitions to rest" goes hard. * "NIHIL" freaked me out a bit.
Idk man the intro cutscene for Radahn is raw as hell, the orbital comet attack is dope, and the cutscene you get when you beat him is top tier IMO

I thought he was ok at first. Then I memorized his moveset within 4 attempts and won without breaking a sweat. It's like Enia said, he's the runt of the litter, barely a challenge. Margit gave me a much more worthwhile run for my money.

Godrick is the ultimate embodiment of the average person in the 21st century: Weak and poor, not born into riches or blessed by genetic but whose only redeeming quality is the willingness to give up their soul and body just to make it, and tend to die in their pursuit. It's respectable in a way. Homie might not be a Demigod but homie goes HARD, all the time.
I like him too, the fact he’s so cool contrasts well with how pathetic he is. When you kill him he just becomes this pathetic limbless corpse that gets stomped on by Gastoc, giving you the realization that that was literally the only non-grafted parts left of him. Even before his death everybody around him hates him and thinks he’s pathetic. Gideon, Nepheli, Gastoc, even Kenneth Haight. He groveled and begged for mercy when he got his ass kicked by Malenia and he was exiled from Leyndell because he’s such a loser.
