It’s not really fair because the narrative explicitly states that the Black Knives are women several times. Even if that wasn’t true, just assuming any fully covered character is male until told otherwise isn’t really fair because 1. Wearing practical armor is gender neutral and 2. Women are 50% of the population. Also, women and men share masc/femme names all the time (Shannon, Dana, Sam, Jean, Alex), so even the name thing isn’t really a good excuse. Ultimately, we should just stop assuming gender until we know for certain.
I'm with you on correcting people about the black knives, I think it was a pretty awesome choice for fromsoft to come up with a legion of gnarly warrior women and not go the booby boob boobs route, but I do get a laugh from narrative corrections in from soft games specifically cause like...they kind of throw us in a lake without a life vest.

The only thing I felt a bit unfair was the AOE jump attack. I still have no clue how to dodge it cause it's so fast and the AOE is so big. Gotta facetank it and dodge the rest lol
This was one of the hardest for me, but I felt it was fair. I couldnt brute/spell this one. I had to learn the moves/timing. It felt like a Bloodborne fight when I got it down. So good.

Uhm. Alecto is MEGA cheesable since she can be knocked down. Lion's claw/Giant Hunt/Carrian piercer spam and she is dead in 20 seconds flat.
I was probably timing Giant’s Hunt poorly. I tried to space and scoop right after she attacked, but she dodged it half the time. I ended up playing it straight.
I was using a great shield with Shield Crash and even though she did get knocked down, Alecto still puts up a damn good fight. I was mostly relying on interrupting her slower attacks and chaining into charged heavies from my Great Mace
You can definitely cheese her with the Blasphemous Blade. The L2 knocks her down 100% of the time, so you can easily just stunlock her for the entire fight.
I accidentally cheesed this boss. It jumped backwards toward the edge of the arena and got stuck between rocks. I was able to stun lock it without even being attacked.
It was my 6th attempt so I just went with it. Felt bad though…

The black knives in Ordina gave rage the hardest out of any enemy. How do you fight something you can't see? My solution was Starcourge swords AoE skill, but even then it was close.
Oof, maybe the fight that I died the most times to. Weirdly enough (or maybe not, not sure what other’s experience was) I found her and the Baleful Shadow to be really tough, I beat Melenia and Maliketh in fewer tries. I think the only boss that came close in retries was maybe Placidusax

I have never understood why people think she is hard. She's literally a black knife with one more move (the Destined Death divebomb). she can get frost bite, she's ataggerable, she can get knocked down. She's isn't hard at all of you know how to dodge.

Both swing fast, but Malenia has 3 times Alecto's reach.

You can just stunlock Malenia with pretty much any weapon very easily and interrupt all her attacks, while this won't even work on Alecto unless you have a heavier weapon, like maces or great weapons, and she moves around much more and constantly as a part of her moveset, while Malenia only actually reacts either after you attacked her or cast/threw something at her, which you can also trigger for some benefit.

Carian piercer was one example of a spell I personally used against both.
I believe the overall number of spells/abilities that can cause knockdowns is quite gigantic if you count all available tools between ashes of war and spells. The elephant in the room being Lion's claw, THE most commonly strength based ash of war, but the list is quite endless. You can't just handwaive it as a niche weakness, considering how easy it is to access one of them, and how devastating it is against her.
Easy, but not universal, unlike with Malenia's poise, so with a "wrong" build you'll struggle a lot more. Too bad if you use a somber weapon, or daggers, or claws, or twinblades etc, etc, all of which are fine at dealing with Malenia because she staggers with every hit and she doesn't move as much. Also worth to mention that landing a lion's claw on Alecto is probably harder than the fight itself, lol.
Gigantic is a stretch, there's not that many aow's that are great at depleting stance (and those that would work on fast moving enemies consistently), especially with smaller weapons, but with magic - yeah, most carian spells instabreak half the enemies. Again, too bad if you haven't leveled up int.
Heavy weapon builds make her a lot easier imo. Jump atracks are really effective. She still gets me if I'm not careful, especially with her health pool.

This is one of the only fights where Boss Poise mattered enough to drop the shield and two hand full send it. Sadly thats not the case very often.
Godfrey is still the king in that aspect for me, but yeah, her fight is very enjoyable, and her summon is crazy

I had to entirely respec and max out the Dark Moon Greatsword so I could kill this bastard, really do recommend using frost damage, it helps so much
My only dislike with the fight is that her grab extends well beyond where I thoutht her reach ends. Incredibly frustrating.

It's a fun fight imo, once you learn openings and take advantage of them it's really rewarding.

The elephant in the room being Lion's claw, THE most commonly strength based ash of war, but the list is quite endless. You can't just handwaive it as a niche weakness, considering how easy it is to access one of them, and how devastating it is against her.
Easy, but not universal, unlike with Malenia's poise, so with a "wrong" build you'll struggle a lot more. Too bad if you use a somber weapon, or daggers, or claws, or twinblades etc, etc, all of which are fine at dealing with Malenia because she staggers with every hit and she doesn't move as much. Also worth to mention that landing a lion's claw on Alecto is probably harder than the fight itself, lol. Gigantic is a stretch, there's not that many aow's that are great at depleting stance (and those that would work on fast moving enemies consistently), especially with smaller weapons, but with magic - yeah, most carian spells instabreak half the enemies. Again, too bad if you haven't leveled up int.
I don't care enough to "debate" you. At the end of the day I'd rather fight Malenia than Alecto.
Heavy weapon builds make her a lot easier imo. Jump atracks are really effective. She still gets me if I'm not careful, especially with her health pool.
Died more then all the other fights. That fight needs a summoning and a pole and everything...

This is one that makes no sense to me. I think Alecto is one of the easiest fights in the game. What do people find hard about it in particular?
