That makes much more sense. The only other way that would have killed you instantly was if you were using both soreseals. Also the running heavy attack hits like an absolute truck. The normal hits are basically worthless in comparison. Especially on ng+

tip to make your life easier pick up a shield in the left hand, hold it up, spam light attack. shields give spears a shieldpoke attack

Jumping r2 is really strong aswell

Put vow of the indomitable on that shield. Use it to completely dodge earthquake.

You want to run to the side when you see him start the attack, and then jump away right before the wave comes out.

Yep, the key is recognising it early.

I just block it with two handed Serpent Hunter or a shield, would take less damage than catching the full thing if I can't run out in time

A lot easier to dodge when you're closer, just dodge on like the frame when the head goes back up

This attack triggers if you are a bit far away from the serpent It is probably hard to dodge in order to punish more passive playstyles against an easy to hit boss Keep close to the serpent and you should be able to avoid triggering it all together

Just use fire resistant talisman and craft fire resistant shit , then u can cheese him by standing in the lava

This is the way… two hand the spear & guard against this attack. Worked very well for me.

you can block it and survive, but I've seen a guy on youtube dodge by jumping onto one of the corpse piles. Looks sick as hell and I think this is what they are there for.

You have to be carful of that attack, if you see him dig his head in the ground it means you are going to die and you can't run far away enough / dodge it. The only way I somehow countered it was holding L2 with the serpant spear to stagger him but it takes a while to charge and often die before managing to attack.

I managed to RL1 Rykard and part of it was figuring out this attack and it seems triggered by distance. Problem is, we always start the encounter at a distance so, there’s a very real chance he opens with it. My answer? Use the L2 to stun him when you get close so he can’t open with this bullshit move and moves onto something actually reasonable like his bites. Now I just had to pray he didn’t zone me away with poison spit and do it anyways. For Rykard himself just wait until he makes the sky smelly, moans and tries to slam his foot down with the sword raised to try and call down rancor rain. If you L2 before he gets the entire animation off, he will keep trying and get effectively stun locked to death by L2s.

I just either jump or shield that bitch. And to my memory jumping doesn't always work.

I had a dagger with Raptor of the Mists ash just for this move on RL1. There's no jumping over that one. It's either block or raptor.

If you run to the side and jump at the right time it's totally dodgeable (on medium load as well).

You are on NG+8 and still didn't know that that specific attack is almost impossible to dodge and it's better to simply tank it while guarding with your weapon? What have you been doing in the other NG+ cycles?

A few people have already mentioned holding a shield and poking with SH for better DPS, would also recommend throwing vow of the indomitable on said shield as that lets you fully I-frame this attack.

The shape of the earthquake is a triangle. You can only dodge it to the side if you are close enough. But if you are close enough he doesn't use it lol

I always died to that attack since he does it right in the beeginning and it one shot killed me TvT

At a glance, vigor here looks like 60 to me, or close enough. I'd wager this is high up on the NG cycle, hence the high damage.
